A Basic Guide on Adding a WordPress Blog to OpenCart

Blogging is an effective and inexpensive way of engaging with your customers. Creating blog posts constantly provide search engines fresh content to index, which eventually help set you up as an authority in your domain. Blogging help you connect with your target audience and build trust within your own industry, by providing valuable information about your business.
When it comes to build an e-commerce website, an unfortunate reality is that some people believe that blogging isn’t necessary for e-stores or e-commerce website. But, that’s a wrong notion!
As a matter of fact, it is more important to create blogs when you’re selling something, owing to the fact that customers doubt buying online. And so, offering products at lower or discounted prices may not even work in drawing your customers’ attention. However, having a blog section in your e-store can help you create brand loyalty. But, the problem is that e-commerce sites don’t come integrated with blogging functionality.
Luckily, there are some great blogging platforms out there that can be integrated within your e-shop. WordPress is one such excellent and the most widely used platform for creating blogs. Once you’ve decided to integrate a WP blog, it is also very important to ensure that you’re using a reliable and coveted e-commerce platform. Most of us have a tendency to use Magento platform for building online stores or sites, however, for creating a small or medium-size e-store or e-shop OpenCart best fit your needs.
Through this post, I would like to talk about how you can integrate WordPress powered blogs to OpenCart using Wordpress Blog Feeds extension. But before proceeding further let’s first have an overview of the OpenCart e-commerce platform.
OpenCart – A Brief Introduction
OpenCart is open-source software that helps set up an e-commerce site cost-effectively. It is an ideal choice for small and medium-size merchants for creating their online site. It is lightweight e-commerce software and is easier to handle. Just like Magento e-commerce platform. OpenCart also comes with tons of extensions (or add-ons) that help embed extra functionality into an online store.
Overview of Pre-requisites
Let's have a quick overview of pre-requisites you will need for integrating a WP powered blog in OpenCart:
WordPress version compatible with your OpenCart installation.
Access to cPanel.
Acquire ZIP file for the “WordPress Blog Feed” extension from the  OpenCart site.
Install vQmod folder because the extension we are using for the integration requires this folder to operate.
How to Install WordPress Blog?
Step 1 – First, you will need to login-in into your Cpanel (or you can even choose to use any FTP client in case you've knowledge about working with FTP).
Step 2 – In this step, you need to upload “Wordpress Blog Feeds” extension zip file into your OpenCart directory.
Step 3 – Next, from your cPanel logged-in screen you can view an option “File manager”, from there click on the zip file where your OpenCart installation is being uploaded. And then, choose EXTRACT to uncompress the extension zip file. Make sure to save your uncompressed file in the vQmod folder.
For example: When you access and open your OpenCart URL or folder location/vqmod/xml/, the file you need to extract will be named as vba-blog-feed-to-article1.xml
Now that you have extracted the file, simply navigate to the vQmod folder and click on vba-blog-feed-to-article1.xml. And then, select EDIT. This will return text that will look something like:
Once all changes to the file has been made, remember to click on the “Save” button in order to save the file entries.
Summing Up!
Irrespective of whether you’re running a small business or a medium-size e-commerce business, blogging frequently will help you build trust and enable you to connect with your customers. Put it simply, an online store selling products can take advantage of blog to drive more traffic to it. Moreover, by writing blog posts about your offerings and its qualities may encourage a user to access your site. If you’re using OpenCart software to build an e-commerce site, then you can choose to integrate WP blog in it. Hopefully reading this post will prove a good starting point, helping you become familiar with the integration process of WordPress blog into your OpenCart site.

Hello,
You can try adding a wordpress blog to your Muse site. You should be able to do this. There shouldn't be any issue with it's functionality (You may need to work some more on the design part - This is just in case there is some issue with the wordpress code and the code generated by Muse in the backend). Please also have a look at this related post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4825190

  • Moving wordpress blog to iWeb

I am building a site right now with iWeb 09. Is it possible to import old content from a basic wordpress template to my new iWeb page? If so, are there instructions online about how to do so? I am having a difficult time finding anything. Thanks in advance.

iWeb can't import anything. A wordpress blog is a lot more flexible than an iWeb blog. I would keep it and either link to it from iWeb or put it in an iframe on an iweb page.

Simple how-to guide to adding windows 7 64-bit to mavericks as a virtual machine (Virtual Box)
Why use a Virtual Machine: Sometimes you need to run a windows only program.  A VM lets you do that without rebooting your machine.
How is it different from Mac Boot Camp: Boot camp allows you to run windows but you must reboot your machine. It is faster and smoother than a VM (and with fullscreen details below), but you have to reboot for each use.
Is it possible to have a VM and Boot Camp: Yes, and I do this because sometimes I want to use a VM quickly without shutting down, sometimes I want the advantages of Boot Camp

Download Virtual Box Virtual Machine Player:
    https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
    Install Win 7 OS:
    Open Virtual Box
Choose “New” (Note: Once you click new it will require you to complete the process of creation, no option for quit.  If you make a mistake or are not ready, just finish it and then remove it and delete all files)
Name: “Windows 7 Virtual” or as you choose
    Type: Microsoft Windows
    Version: Windows 7 64-bit
Memory: I suggest 1GB if you have 4GB available, 512 MB may run slowly.  2GB+ of 4GB may slowdown your MAC OS running while the VM is running.
“Create a Virtual Drive Now” option
File Size: 25 GB should be the minimum selected, I used 25GB because I expect to use the drive to store very little.
    HD type: VirtualBox Disk Image
    Storage: Dynamically Allocated
Locate your new VM and click Start (again you will not be able to quit once you start, if you make a mistake continue until the red quit icon appears then remove the VM)
It will ask you to select the files for the OS.  Select the ISO file, for example: /Users/Christoper/Downloads/X17-58997.iso.download/X17-58997.iso
Proceed to setup Win with your preferences
Type product key from your OS purchase or an existing one that you are moving from another machine
Note: Screen resolution may be very limited on the virtual machine.  I use resolution 800 X 600 so that all of the desktop is visible.
I suggest using a windows gadget to view the CPU and Memory usage > On desktop mac-right-click i.e. separate fingers and click both > Gadgets > CPU Meter
Enjoy having Windows on your Mac!

I have found a solution to the screen being smaller in the windows 7 virtual machine.  First right-click in the desktop region and select screen resolution.  It is probably set to 800 X 600 by default which is much less than the screensize you are using.  To determine your native screensize, go to your mac and finder > applications > utilities > hardware > graphics displays.  Mine is 1440 X 900 for macbook air.  Then go back into the virtual machine and sceen resolution settings.  Choose a screen resolution which is slightly less in all dimensions so that there is no clipping and you do not have to scroll when viewing.  For me this was 1152 X 864.  Then exit saving changes and with the VM in view press command - F (or at the menu bar View > Switch to full screen), which puts you in full screen mode.  Now you should have a screen with minimal gray empty space filling the majority of your screen

Burn this image file (.iso) to a USB drive or DVD-R:
    USB drive:
Get a blank USB drive with 8 GB+ capacity
Format this drive to Fat32 (Windows and Mac shared format), this will erase the drive!:
    Finder > Applications > Utitilies > Disk Utility > Partition > 1 > Fat32
Extract the image file to the drive exposing its files:
Finder > Applications > Utilites > Boot Camp Assistant
Click both "Create a Win 7 or later version install disk" and "Download the latest windows support software from Apple" and advance
Locate your image (iso) file, example: /Users/Christoper/Downloads/X17-58997.iso.download/X17-58997.iso
Destination disk is your USB flash drive that was formatted to fat32, if it does not appear it may be in the wrong format
Click continue, this process takes a long time (30 mins - 1.5 hour estimated), it may appear that it is freezing because progress bar stops at times, do not stop it, let it keep running.  If you are unsure it is still going, open finder > click the drive > get info, and look at the size of the files.  Then close finder wait a few seconds, get info again and see that file size is slightly larger.  The final file size was 4+ GB for me
    or DVD-R:
I have not used a DVD-R but this is how I expect it to work:
    Insert black DVD-R
Finder > Applications > Utitilies > Disk Utility > Burn
Locate your image (iso) file, example: /Users/Christoper/Downloads/X17-58997.iso.download/X17-58997.iso
    Partition HD for WIndows 7:
Finder > Applications > Utilites > Boot Camp Assistant
Choose the 3rd option Install Windows 7
It will ask you to select a size of your Harddrive space for Windows OS, this will eat up some of the free space on your Mac HD.  How much space is enough for a Windows OS?  Depends on how many programs you plan to install on it.  If you are just using for surfing web and running MS Office, probably 30-40 GB is enough, and this is what I did.  Remember this space will be used up from your existing HD and not usable when you are in Mac OS.  This process takes about 10 mins I think
    Install Win 7 OS:
With USB drive in port or DVD in drive, restart laptop.
It will bring up the Win 7 installer on boot up
Select the OS type that you have a registered key for
It will ask you to find a HD to use for Win 7 OS:
Select the HD you just created, if you try to continue it will complain that HD is wrong format (because MAC formatted it to a MAC compatible HD, we will fix this)
Select the HD, there is a button to the right for "advanced" I believe is the text of it.  It will allow you to reformat the drive, choose NTFS which it requires.  Then proceed
Proceed to setup Win with your preferences
Type product key from your OS purchase or an existing one that you are moving from another machine
    Select Default Boot Drive:
By default it selects Windows as your default OS to boot at power up, most people want Mac OSX to be the default, so this can be changed:
Finder > System Preferences > Startup Disk > select Mac
Enjoy having Windows on your Mac!

Why use Boot Camp: Sometimes you need to run a windows only program.  Boot Camp lets you do that with the speed and smoothness of a full windows OS.
How is it different from Mac Virtual Machine: A VM allows you to run another OS simultaneously while you are running OSX, while in a window similar to any other application.  A VM is not as fast, smooth, and may have limited screensize/view.
Is it possible to have a VM and Boot Camp: Yes, and I do this because sometimes I want to use a VM quickly without shutting down, sometimes I want the advantages of Boot Camp

    there should be

2.) a 300x250 block of yellow text or image ads at the top of the sidebar, and
3.) a 300x250 block of template color text or image ads just under the Blog Archive.
Incidentally, I can't see my blog at all at this moment because my company has disallowed viewing personal websites and blogs on their wifi. REAL bummer! Sitting in my truck waiting for dispatch and can 't work on my blog :-(
But I'd be grateful to know if anyone else can see these ads - I can, at least, view this website.
    Thanks much :-)

  • Muse: Link zu post in eingebettetem Wordpress-Blog?

    Hallo,
Ich habe in meiner neuen Website auf der Seite "News" meinen Wordpress-Blog eingebettet. Hier der Code:
    <iframe width="1010" height="732" src="https://maniahub.wordpress.com/" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

  • Cannot connect Contribute to WordPress blog hosted on Startlogic

I installed WordPress on the server where my website is
hosted. I want to use Contribute to work on that blog. When I try
to set up connections, I specify "other hosts" and I enter the URL
of the blog. After I enter that URL, I can click the "browse"
button and display the blog. When I clicke "next" I am asked for
the ID and password, presumably because Contribute has identified
the API connection. I enter the same ID and password that works
successfuly when I log in to wp-admin on that server. However, I
receive a message that Contribute cannot connect to the Blog.
I am able to connect successfully to my publicly hosted
WordPress blog. I identified the file to which Contribute is
connecting for the publicly hosted blog, and I found the same file
in my WordPress installation on my Startlogic server. However, when
I specify that path and filename in Contribute, the connection
fails, saying it cannot connect to the server.
I opened a ticket with my hosting service, Startlogic, and
the support techs believe I should be able to connect with the ID
qatharms that works fine on wp-admin. However, that ID doesn't
work, and Startlogic cannot tell me what is going wrong. Can
anybody here give me a clue?

    Hi Dominic
That's the one thing I can't do right now.  The website & customized (and integrated) blog all share the same menu structure in a common Dreamweaver library item.  So when you update the library item for the menus, this update is shared across both website and blog.  Currently the menus are relatively addressed, for example:
    ../index.html
    ../contact.html
This works as long as the blog doesn't use sub-directories to file its posts, created by changing the permalink setting in the WordPress server.
Once you introduce sub-directories then you have to use full URL references to make a shared library item for the menu across website & blog work, for example:
    http://www.domain.com/index.html
    http://www.domain.com/contact.html
What I'll do is setup another test website / blog arrangement and try your suggestion to see if it fixes the issue.
Would having Contribute setup for both website & blog cause a problem?  This is how things are now, the first time I've tried this combo.
    Thanks.
    Aly

This is a subject for Wordpress support.    If they can't develop websites that are w3.org compliant, you'll want to use a different blogger.  Also if this difficulty is with Safari, let us know, and we can ask the moderators to move this thread to the Safari forum.
