A better player

hi, i have aGB muvo tx fm player and i wish to get something a little better, and i want to go creative of course.
all i really care about is the quality of the sound, nothing else. couldn't give a toss if it has a radio or not, i've never used the one i have now.
GB or 2GB would be fine, and a flash memory.
I just want to be able to actually notice the difference in sound from mine.
as far as price goes, up to say $50.

You might want to take a look at the MuVo T200 player. It's one of the newer MuVo players out there. If there a retail store near where you are staying you might want to check it out to see if you like what you are hearing.

Wenn du Kubuntu benutzt reicht es wohl das in dem archiv
(.gz) ethaltene
file 'libflashplayer.so' nach ~/.mozilla/plugins/ zu kopieren

steht f=C3=BCr dein home verzeichnis. vermutlich ist das
/home/harald :O))
In Ubuntu ist es /usr/lib/firefox/plugins (dort als root
hinkopieren)
Andere Distros haben manchmal auch /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
oder
usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins als speicherort f=C3=BCr das
ding. Einfach

Thread prioritization for better Player performance?

I have been developing an application to capture individual frames from a video clip on disk. I have implemented a Processor to load and play the video and inserted a custom Codec as a video track control to capture the frames. The code is fairly simple and hasn't changed since I have implemented it.
A noticable degradation in performance has shown up now that the rest of my application has increased in complexity. The video is choppy and often falls out of synch with the audio track. Is there a way for me to prioritize the JMF thread(s) in such a way to make it unaffected by the rest of my application's threads?

I have increased the priority of the thread used in my Codec but have only noticed a marginal improvement in video playback. The audio track still skips at times. I have even decreased the priority of the other threads in my application but this seems to have little effect. I have the feeling I am not prioritizing the right thread(s)... How does one access the many threads used by the JMF in playing back a clip using a Processor object?

A better MP3 player for iphone?

I've been using Apple's MP3 player since getting an iphone a few months ago, and have a problem in that it won't show play counts for me, which is a feature I really need to have. I listen primarly to lectures on my phone, but when I'm away from home I quickly lose track of where I am if I don't write it down all the time.
Is there a way to show play counts on Apple's player that I'm just not able to figure out?
If not, is there a better player out there that is able to update my play counts, not only in my iphone but in my laptop as well - I'm synced to it via iCloud?

Have you replaced the back on the phone? The phone won't find the card without the back in place.
And you don't have to switch the phone off to remove the card, either.

Captivate 4 will not open with latest Flash Player installed?!

I've seen this question already, but there wasn't any working answer.
When I launch Captivate, I get the warning box saying flash player "is not installed or its an older version" - with an OK button which just launches IE to get the player, and closes captivate...
I had beta player 10.1, so obviously it isn't older - but still, I uninstalled it, got the version (10.0.45.2) on the adobe page captivate sent me too and... Captivate still will not work!
I've unistalled the plugin twice, rebooted, checked the version and still Captivate will not launch...still the same message
So how on earth can I even launch Captivate?? Do I really have to roll back to flash 9 or something?? I wouldn't mind, but I don't even use IE!
Any help appreciated (esp. from Adobe!)

I just ran into this problem with Captivate as well. I uninstalled Flash Player 10.1 by going here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
I then downloaded an archived Flash Player here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
It seems the main installer does not incorporate the Active-X version of Flash that Internet Explorer needs. There should be several Windows installers in the download. For example, I used Flash Player 10. The following Windows files were in the package:
•    flashplayer10r45_2_win.exe
•    flashplayer10r45_2_winax.exe
•    flashplayer10r45_2_win_sa.exe
Install the first one and second. The second file is the Active-X Flash version (I’m thinking “winax” means Windows Active-X), which Captivate needs to run. I don’t think you need to install the last file (“win_sa”, I’m thinking the “sa” stands for stand-alone).

Why are my .avi files extracted using PE3 only playing audio when using Windows Media Player?

I extracted a lot of my old movies using PE3 that came from my 8MM camera. They played fine on XP.
I now have Windows7 64 bit and when I play them in Windows Media Player, they only play the sound.
I'm guessing that this is a codec issue.
Should I re-extract them using a different product that uses a more standard codec?

It depends on your workflow. So we'll need more details.
How did you digitize the video from your 8mm camcorder? Many devices capture as AVIs, but do so while using codecs that aren't universally playable. Also, do make sure you've got the latest version of Quicktime on your new computer. It can add some important video functionality to your computer.
You say you used Premiere Elements to "extract" your movie. How did you do this? Did you use a device like the ADS Pyro AV Link or Grass Valley Canopus AVDC?
Finally, are you trying to play the raw files or did you create a project with them in Premiere Elements and then Export/Share your video? And, if the latter, which output settings did you choose?
Meantime, try downloading VLC Player to your new computer and see if it can play the files. It is a much better player than Windows Media Player (or Quicktime Player, for that matter). And let us know yoru results.
As I've said, the more details you can give us, the more likely we can help you.

Display bug in FP 11 beta

Installed FP 11 and immediately see a bug in my Flex app, where a drop shadow filter on item renderers are sometimes renderered as solid black, sometimes they are garbled pixels. When the list first loads, it renders correctly, but when I scroll (the items are animated to move)..when they move I see display artifacts around the drop shadows.
This worked fine in the 11.0.1.3d incubator version.

I experience the same thing. This is a new bug in the beta player, as it did not happen in the incubator build.
The cue in my pool game is creating huge artifacts when the player rotates it. It is a UIComponent instance where the cue texture is drawn on the graphics object at a fixed angle, and the cue is then rotated by manipulating the "rotation" property.
I have circled the artifacts in the example below:

Flash player embedded in Windows 8:

Having the latest version of Flash Player, when using the Realplayer some thumbnail images are correct, some relate to other downloads and some have no image at all. Having contacted Real support they say this is caused by the Flash Player so I would like to known how to correct this problem and restore the correct image for the downloaded MP4 and FLV files if possible. RealPlayer is almost obsolete. I stopped using it when they started charging for EVERYTHING but the basic player, which is so stripped down it's almost worthless. On top of that, RealPlayer (not the other software) causes so many other apps to malfunction, (QuickTime, Windows Media Player, Flash Player to name a few) it's more bother than it's worth.
There's a MUCH BETTER player and it:
1. is 100% free
2. doesn't cause the problems RealPlayer does
VLC Media Player will play ANYTHING RealPlayer does, and more. I've used it since 2006, when I got rid of RealPlayer.
Download it, install it and uninstall RealPlayer. You'll see a difference.

Update DVD Player for iDVD Preview?

When I preview movies in IDVD before burning, a very rudimentary DVD Player comes up with no provision for reverse or fast forward (as far as I can tell). Apple's main DVD Player does have these facilities but it is not used for iDVD's preview. How can I force the use of this better player, or reverse or fast forward using the rudimentary one? I am having glitches show up in stills in a 1/2 hour movie in the .m4v file resulting from iMovie 08 and need to use something like this to test them.

It's annoying, isn't it? .... however these are some of the given limitations within iDvd / consumer applications.
You can't force iDvd to use Apple's Dvd player (to the best of my knowledge) as opposed to the preview function (which in itself is highly limited when compared to apple's pro apps /FCS 2).
But you can suggest an update or improvement to apple which they do take into account provided enough users also make the very same request. Here's that link:

Importing Beta movies

I can't seem to get my old beta player to play thru my DV camera into I-movie.
The Beta player only has RCA in / out, and it'll play through a T.V, but I can't get anything to come into the camera. I've done everything the manual says, far as i know. The camera's a Cannon Optura 20. Connectors are RCA, out of the Beta, to a stereoplug into the AV port on the Cannon.
My tapes are quite old already, so i didn't really want to re-record them onto a dv tape to Imovie etc....
The help menu in IMovie said something about a converter that might be needed to do this.
Anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Hello Ch,
It appears that your Optura 20 has pass-through capability (analog input/digital output) so you should be able to connect the Canon to your Mac with Firewire and the Canon will act as an analog-to-digital converter. iMovie should recognize that a camcorder is connected, but won't be able to control play/pause on the Beta deck - do that manually.
If you're worried about the Beta tapes, experiment with another analog source (eg, a VHS deck, Hi8 camcorder, etc.) to make sure you have the Canon and iMovie setup correctly. I wouldn't think Beta output signals are a problem.
Another thought - if the Beta to Canon connection works, why not record your Beta tapes to miniDV for storage? You'd only have to play the Beta tapes once, you have good storage media, and you can edit later at your leisure.

Is there a release date yet? I've had management phoning me
over the weekend panicking that the new player was going live this
weekend. When 9,0,115,0 came out our global financial trading
platform broke due to the socket security changes in release 115.
This time we are prepared (as we already use dynamically generated
socket policy files) although with no access to a beta player we
were unable to test. Unfortunately its just another bit of negative
perception of Flash/Flex that others can use to promote alternative
RIA platforms. I will have a fight on my hands this year to stop us
migrating to Silverlight.
I'm signed up for security alerts from Adobe - is there a
mailing list for Flash Player release date? And why can't I see a
beta version of the new player in order to test?

Which MP3 Player?? Help Ple

Well, My wife's Micro headphone jack broke today. This is the 3rd time for her. I have had the jack on my Micro break 3 times also. She is dead set on getting an iPod because of all of not only her trouble buy my trouble too. I am tired of babying my player to only have it break.
Anyway, I am trying to get her to maybe upgrade to a different Creative product. I don't really care about photo capability. I just want an MP3 player. I really liked my Micro but it seems to have a design flaw. So I am thinking of getting the Sleek. Can anyone comment on the good and bad that they have encountered with this product. If you would suggest it to someone or not. Any help would be appreciated.

If you guys really liked the Micro, check out the MicroPhoto ... I haven't heard of anyone yet (unless I missed it) that have headphone jack problems on the new MicroPhotos. It really is a great and sturdy player (I posted below about what happened to me today with mine).
I have owned all iPod models and still I think the Creative player is a much better player. You'll have to baby that iPod, too. ... probably more so ...
