A better Tutorial

I have gone through most of the Java Web Services Tutorial, however, there is no comprehensive example. Does anyone know if there is a tutorial which steps through building, publishing, and subscribing to a web service. I am looking to set up an entire test system.
Any suggestions?

For EA1, what we have is available out @

I will pass your feed back out to our docs group.

  • Need help quick, installing beta tutorial

I'm running the beta tutorial shell scrpt
    /bin/sh j2sdkee-1_4-beta-doc-unix-tutorial.sh
I'm installing the 1.4 tutorial addendum on linux, into /usr/java,
    running this script from
    /usr/java.
and I am having a problem with the install shield. It asks me to
'Enter the location of your Java(TM) 2 SDK, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) v1.4
    installation'
and I have this stuff in /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0_03
and when I enter the query with that directory, or with that
directory /bin (as in /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0_03/bin) or with
/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0_03/jre/bin or... you get the message.
Whatever I enter, this installer comes back and tells me
'The directory you entered does not contain a Java 2 SDK, Enterprise
    Edition v1.4 installaton'.
    What gives?
    thanks!

Are you sure the directory isn't j2sdkee1.4.0_03 ?? I thought that was the general naming structure for the Enterprise Edition, but I haven't downloaded the beta, so it may be different.

  • Adobe has made upgrades with the Dreamweaver CS6 fluid grids. Is there a better tutorial than this?

It there a better tutorial than this anywhere http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2013/02/updated-fluid-grids-in-dreamweaver.html ? I can't seem to understand this guy. I know he means well. I really want to learn fluid grids. Thanks any reconmandations?

If you want to learn to make responsive Web pages, do not rely on
Adobe's fluid grid system. Learn CSS yourself. If you need to rely on a
grid framework, then you are barking up the wrong tree. I can absolutely
guarantee that if you do not fully understand the theories behind
responsive design and you use the Adobe fluid grid (or the open source
frameworks/scripts that Adobe uses) your site will eventually break.
Study and learn. If you are sharp enough, you will quickly come to
understand that nearly every article and tutorial on the subject is
plain wrong. The essence of responsive design is very easy and does not
require anyone's code but your own.

  • ERRORS IN  RECOMMENDED JSTL BOOK & A BETTER TUTORIAL

    Hello,
I think that my tutorial on JSTL in :
    http://in.geocities.com/rsramsam/jstl.htm
is far better , hands-on and comprehensive than the recommended books by SUN.
Some typos have been corrected in Rick's site.
    http://www.learntechnology.net
Kindly use this tutorial on JSTL instead of the buggy and long-winding books.
    RSR

    Thoughts:
This first link was very difficult to read.
The second link is in a much more readable format than the first.
The tutorial seems to cover JSTL1.0 only, and not the newer JSTL1.1 and how it integrates with JSP2.0.
In fact the author refers to a JSP book for having an "error" using the JSTL1.1 uri, as opposed to the JSTL1.0. If you don't have that basic understanding, then you lose my vote at this point.
    Try reading
    [url http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=628740] This post and
[url http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=629437&tstart=0] this post  on the differences between JSTL1.0 and JSTL1.1.
It has a few good basic examples, but I don't think it is anything special.
For really learning JSTL I would recommend getting the specification from [url http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/jstl/index.jsp] here
It is quite readable and an excellent reference on how the tags actually work

  • 4Level Lightbox extension tutorial... PLEASE???

Could someone please post a better tutorial for the 4Level Lightbox Dreamweaver extension?
The existing one seems very incomplete and confusing.
Just check it out and you'll see what I mean.    Here it is
The tutorial explains how to name new picture sets and add a set to existing sets and so on.
    But....
The tutorial just doesn't seem to address how to:
add new images to an existing lightbox or set or whatever
    add thumbnails
open anything else in the lightbox (like an html doc...etc.)
I don't seem to be able to add multiple photos to a set. (I can only do one photo in the lightbox using the plugin module )
I absolutely concede that it may just be my limited reading comprehension that is making it so difficult.
But please, please someone help. I just don't get it.
Thank you for taking the time...

Could someone please post a better tutorial for the 4Level Lightbox Dreamweaver extension?
I think that's just a free extension that provides a way to get a freely available open source script into a page without having to
copy and paste it yourself. Since it's free,  Support might be minimal. If you are looking for a custom-programmed solution that has
more features and automation - and that allows you to manage existing implementations in a GUI, you might want to have a look at
    this:
    http://www.projectseven.com/products/galleries/lightshow/index.htm
Do spend a bit of time and read the page as well as viewing the live examples:

    And the tweaks/inspiration page:

In any event, best of luck to you.

  • Is there a clearer video tutorial on zooming and panning in on clip than this?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0kt60VAyb8&feature=related
This is sort of helpful, but despite over thre hours work, I cannot get my clip to do what I want.
I need Video Tutorials, not text instruction. i'm dyslexic and simply see gobbldeegupe when looking at written instructions.
    Thanks, everyone.
This is the clip in question...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6LWzo5n_sg
I want to zoom in to avoid seeing my lady at right of screen, who basically stopped acting in the scene.   The zoom in will be effective anyway, since we are zooming in on an annoyed man. The image would need to zoom in, but not the center of the image. So a pan up also needs to be applied.

That Tutorial covers the basic mechanics of a Pan & Zoom with Keyframes on the Fixed Effects>Motion>Scale (Zoom) and Motion>Position (Pan).
The next step is to learn about Interpolation in Keyframes, where one can adjust how things appear. The Keyframes, that the author used were Linear, so they start at full-speed and end at full-speed. Through Interpolation, one can adjust how the motions begin and end. The Help File covers Keyframe Interpolation ver well, and as there are quite a few choices, with different results, is important when one chooses to alter Interpolation.
What aspects would you like more detail on?
Only thing that I saw, that I would have included, would have been near the end, when the author click-drags on the last Keyframes, one at a time. That can be done, but one can also Lasso the Keyframes, and drag them all together. I'd have shown each way. I would also have shown the "scrubby" characteristic of the numerical coordinate box, as that can be useful too. Many operations in PrPro have more than one way to do things, and to cover each, does make a better tutorial.
Let us know what else could/should be added, or where you are having an issue.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - rather than the graphical change in Position, that the author used, I usually rely on the numbers, but there is nothing wrong with the graphical method - just personal choice and how one likes to work.

  • Using a single Catalog/ Database to support several workstations

I am a staff photographer at a University that has one other full time photographer and several freelancers. We would like to find a way to use lightroom and integrate it with a multiple photographer database. I know that it is not wise to locate the lightroom db on a server, but can the Catalog be on a drive located on one computer and accessed through the network? Can a local library be setup on each photographer's computer that can all be fed into one searchable db?

    Well
Lightroom Tutorial Podcast #45 has been posted, The Lightroom Catalog - Part 1, or Where Are My Pictures?, though U have a feeling the part you want would be in Part 2 of Catalogs.
Maybe someone else knows of a better Tutorial.

  • How to make only one colour show.

Okay so say I take some footage I just shot and I want the colour blue to ONLY show up and all the other colours turn black and white, how would I do this?
so ONLY blue will be in the footage, the other colours are black and white.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.
As stated, Leave Color Effect is exactly what you want. I'd like to put in a bit of a plug for Adobe Classroom in a Book Premiere Pro CS5, Adobe Press, out very soon, if not already on shelves where you are. The author covers this very Effect very well. Doubt that you will find a better tutorial on the Effect anywhere else.
Also, it's great reading, and a book worth every $.

  • Cant figure out how to play a movie clip on mouseover

    Hey guys,
I'm a web designer who is wanting to add a touch of flash to his page. I just created a new site that hasnt launched yet. The scene is a city scape with water beneathe. In the water I want to have a fish that bobs up and down slightly on mouseover. I have the movie created and I went through a couple tutorials online, i could only find 2, but neither could help me out.
I know I have to make a button and i just copied the initial stage of the movie and converted that into a button.
What Im trying to create is called a tell target.
Can anyone possibly help? or point to a better tutorial?
    Thanks in advance

"tell target" is something of Flash from long ago and far away that is best left there... it is nothing related to AS3.
While there may be some working out to manage, here's a general scheme you can start to play with.  Create your animation as a movieclip, placing a stop(); command in the first frame of it and a gotoAndPlay(2); in the very last frame of it.  Place it in the stage and while it's still selected assign it an instance name via the Properties panel (where it says <instance name>)... let's say you name it "fish".
In the same frame as where the fish movieclip lives, but on a different layer for actions, place this code.
    fish.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, bobTheFish);
    fish.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, stopBob);
    function bobTheFish(evt:MouseEvent):void {
         fish.gotoAndPlay(2);
    function stopBob(evt:MouseEvent):void {
         fish.gotoAndStop(1);

  • What's happening to my site?!?

I've designed this site in Photoshop, sliced it up and then exported it to HTML format, then opened up the HTML file for editing in Dreamweaver. Everything looks good and when I go to preview it in Safari, it looks great.
So I sent this project out for testing by some of my family and a cousin came back and told me to look at the site in Firefox. It looked like crap! Really, there were spaces where there shouldn't have been and some links had blue borders around them. I managed to get the blue borders off, but the site still looks kind of truncated.
So, I had to make a flash site which looks great and does everything I wanted it to, all for this truncated table reason.
Would someone be so kind as to take a look at the site and the code (I'm a designer by the way, not a developer and this is just beyond me!) and give me some suggestions? This project is my first web project and I'm getting a little stressed out that I can't find the answer to a problem that seems basic.
    Thanks
    eDz
You can view it here - http://www.temanametalpolishing.com/ and be sure to choose the non-flash site.
    P.S.
I've got Dreamweaver CS5 on a Mac platform by the way.

Unfortunately web design is not like print design.  You can't just drag and drop and expect things to work. Web design does require a little bit of coding knowledge.  Typically most here will suggest that you create the slices in Photoshop and export the slices you need.  Then in Dreamweaver build the HTML instead of using the Export function from Photoshop because all Photoshop does is create a table with images in each cell.  Not ideal for a web design, it fits everything tightly which is why when you add a link you get a blue border since when images become links you get a blue border unless you turn it off.
Also what is happening is that fonts might display differently in browsers and because of the tight fitting structure when you add too much text things get pushed out of alignment even if it does not appear that way in Design View.
If time is important give this tutorial a read over: http://layersmagazine.com/image-slicing-in-photoshop-cs3.html .  It is an excellent tutorial about the current method you are using and will get you setup with best practices.
I'll try and look to see a better tutorial of what I am explaining about coding the page manually from Photoshop slices unless someone else on here beats me to it.  But that first link should get you going.

  • Getting started with Server Faces and Data

    Hello All,
I am just starting a Java Server Faces project and I am new to the technology and have a couple of questions that I can't seem to find answers to. I am developing using IBM's Rational Software Architect as my IDE and I am creating a Java Server Faces Portlet Application.
I have gone through many tutorials and am getting a good sense of navigation, beans and tags but in all of the tutorials no one has shown a working model of how to grab existing data from a data source and display it on a jsp. From what I have seen the "backing beans" for each jsp page don't seem to have an entry point so I'm a little confuse as to where you would make your call to fill up a bean that is consumed by the jsp.
For example say I have a simple page with 2 labels: one for first name and one for last name, I have created a bean called User with 2 properties (firstname, lastname) each with getters and setters created. Then I have a public method called "GetUser" that returns back an instance of this user bean with some fake data (Is this common practice? I come from a C++/C# background and normally this would be a static method or a method in a controller class somewhere but some of the tutorials I've looked at are doing it this way). Now where does my JSP call this GetUser method? and do I still create a managed bean and bind the firstname/lastname fields to the labels?
If anyone could point me in the right direction, a better tutorial or anything that would be great.
    Thanks in advance

  • Cloning a Track for the Opposite Stereo Channel

    Hey folks, quick question:
So I did some recording this past weekend, but unfortunately, when I imported it all into GarageBand, I found that the audio had only been recorded into the left stereo channel (meaning if you were wearing headphones, you'd hear everything in the left ear, and nothing in the right). I figure I can probably fix this pretty easily if I just clone the track and set it to the opposite stereo channel. I just don't know how to do this in GB.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
This would be a better tutorial that helps you out with putting a mono sound into stereo(the example here is that there is a guitar audio but it is only played on the left, the user wants to make a stereo).
    Check it our here:
    http://myrightbrain.wordpress.com/2007/09/28/garageband-how-to-create-stereo-tra cks/
It should be pretty straightforward. Let me know if you have any other questions.
    Hope this helps,
    Vicente Tulliano.

  • ClickTAG

Hi - I am pretty new to developing banner ads in Flash and I made one for a client, exported it in SWF and passed the file to his provider. Now his provider tells me I need to insert the correct script, that is:
    on (release) {
        getURL(clickTag, "_blank");
I put this script in the action but he keeps telling me its not ok.... can anyone help me out with this? It is an Action Script 3 Flash file, with 2 graphics layers, one layer with hidden button (alpha 0) and one action layer with the above script. What could be wrong? I am linking you to a page of my website, where you can find the FLA file and SWF... http://www.eikon13.it/fla.html
    thank you very much!!

    Ciao John,
I build banners for Universal Studios. I was going to write down all you needed to do but it dawned on me that I am not sure of your Flash Skill experience so I found a better tutorial to help you get it straightned out.
    http://www.flashclicktag.com
Please make sure that you pay attention to the exact naming convention that you publisher gives you. there are different clickTAG, clickTag,ClickTag etc.. syntaxes that they may give to reference.
Shoudl you have any issues feel free to write me at [email protected] and send the .fla file ( zipped ) and I'll do my best to help out.

  • Adobe Native Extensions Xcode 5?

    Dear all,
I have a challenge. I have developed an Xcode library which I would like to make available for people who use Flash, mainly in order to create a nice interface since Flash is WAY better for creating interfaces than Xcode. Therefore I dived into creating an Adobe Native Extension as explained in this quite nice tutorial on the Adobe website. I came across many issues on the way but in the end I succeeded in creating a .ANE file which could be used in Flash. Flash clearly recognizes the names of the classes etc that are defined in the actionscript library, but as soon as it runs the scripts I get an error saying "Could not find the class <classname>". I considered me to be the most likely prolem so I decided to take a step back and build the code that is in the .zip file of the tutorial (so my hands did not touch the code other than compiling it) strangely I get the same errors again.
There are 3 most likely things that could be at the essence of this:
    - The tutorial was written quite some time ago, by now we have Xcode 5 which might be different from the version used when writing the tutorial. Specificially it could be that some of the build settings are not compatible with adobe AIR. I am curious whether people have experience with this.
*- I make a mistake in importing the library into my flash code.  I saw other posts on these forums where people have been making such mistakes. Some variations I tried are importing the .ANE directly (which another guy here also tried and reported that this would not work, strange but ok..) then I did it with the SWC and I also made the traditional mistake at first of not linking it externally. But after having solved that as well I am stuck. Maybe there is something else I should be aware of?
    - My Flash version and AIR versions are more modern than the ones in which this code was written, could it be that there are depreciation issues in the newer versions?
    * An interesting detail though is that I do manage to include the .ANE file of the original build which is also included in the .zip. Therefore I think it is unlikely that I make a mistake in importing the libraries, but nevertheless these things can never be truly ruled out.
If it helps I can share the coding I used but as it is the tutorial code I do not expect that there are true mistakes in this.
Do you have any experience in this? Or could you reproduce my error(or not and thus solving it?) Any help is appreciated!

I'm pretty sure that you are wrong and don't understand what actually happening ;)  Native Extensions work well and users develops new one. I done myself extension using xcode 4.0 to 5.0 so everything is with it. Just need to find better tutorial. Last ANE finished 2 weeks ago that change iOS keyboard color.  Creation of ANE it's pretty simple job when you know what to do. I don't have any C++ and Objective-C background but this don't restrict me from ANE creation that works well.
