A better way? Need to reinstall printer on network after shutting down computers.

HELP!
I have a HP 3310 All in one.  It is oh, 4 years old or so and this has bugged me the whole time.
Basically, whenever I power down any/all of the computers on my network I lose the printer when I power back up.
My first fix was to just leave everything powered up all the time, worked great until the power went out.  I talked to someone in tech support and they had me uninstall and reinstall everything.  I got it up and running but I definately do not want to do that everytime I want to print something!
My second fix was to hook up directly to computer with USB cable, this was my last solution, I could only print off the computer wired to the printer though.  One of the reasons I bought this printer was I wanted to be able to do so across the network, wirelessly or not.
My network now includes 3 computers and a network backup drive, a laptop (when I use it, is wireless connection) and this printer.  I have a Dlink DGL-4300 router tying everything to my cable modem.
My current bout of frustration stems from recently upgrading 2 computers with some new hardware and new OS, I moved to Win7 on the 2 new rigs, and have Vista on my other desktop, the laptop runs XP but is not used very often.  It does login to my network flawlessly each time I turn it on though.
I am looking for an "easy button" here.  Setting up networks is something I can do, right up until I hit my first problem that a wizard cannot fix.  (which seems to be any problem that pops up)
My printer shows that it is connected to my home network with excellant signal strength ( it is only about 6 feet from the router)  my desktops are all connected and can see each other, I can share files off the vista computer with one of the win7 computers but not the other ( a different problem for another web forum).
My printer does not show up in my network neighborhood window and no number of reboots of printers or computers seems to get things reset so that any of the computers will "see" the printer.  Not sure if this is router related or not.  I simply want the printer to reappear in my network when things are turned back on.  The win7 computers said they had successfully installed the printer after I downloaded the latest software from here for win6 64 bit.  I did not in fact print anything at the time because they said the printer was found and installed correctly, now the printer cannot be located any longer.  HP solution center claims the printer is disconnected, but does nothing to assist in re-establishing a connection.  The wizards cannot locate the printer, manually trying to direct the computers to the printer fail.  I have set up a PW protected wireless network to try to limit prying eyes and leaches from accessing my network and I wonder if somehow this is messing me up.
I am lost, completely!
In summery:
Dlink DGL-4300 router
Two computers running Win7
One computer running Vista
One laptop running XP
One HP3310 All-in-one printer
When setting up the win7 systems all defaults were selected, I tried to do nothing funny from stock install.  Somehow, I still ended up with one computer not being able to access files on Vista computer.  None of the computers can see the printer though. (this after powering down all computers and turning them back on when needed, router has not been cycled on and off)
Thanks, hopefully someone can explain this to me.  I just do not want to have to reinstall the printer after every time I turn a computer off and back on again.

On many older HP printers the software keeps track of the printer by IP address.  If that IP address changes (due to power outage, the printer re-logging on to the router after being moved, etc), the software can have a difficult time finding the printer.
How comfortable are you in configuring your router?  First, print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer.  We can go from there.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Do I need to reinstall MS Office 2011 after upgrading to Mavericks ?

    Hello,
I have mid 2011 Mac Air. Do I need to reinstall MS Office 2011 after upgrading to Mavericks ?
    Curious to know before upgrading.

You will at least need to apply the update. I believe that can be done before upgrading to Mavericks. If you have trouble, then as Tony T1 says, uninstall fully then reinstall, but I have had no issues o any of my Macs. Update applied to all.

  • HT4356 After shutting down my router and PC,  I can get my iPad to wirelessly connect to my HP 3050A printer.  After a period of time the connection is lost and I have to start all over shutting things down.  The PCM never looses connection with the print

After shutting down the router and connected PC, I can get my iPad to connect to air print to my HP 3050A printer.  Connection is lost after time and I have to start the whole process over again.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Thanks for the response Grant.  I had both set to "never" and the power connected.  I did however find while searching the forum page, an answer already given to another enquiry.  The security/general tab.  I had it checked, now unchecked am hoping it will solve my problem.  Thanks again, Cebustu.

  • After failed reinstall of Snow Leopard, MacBook shuts down on startup

Went to reinstall Snow Leopard on my 1.5-year-old MacBook, and inexplicably it told me it "can't install" the OS on the hard drive. Had to restart, and upon restart, it gave me a progress bar at the bottom of the gray screen with the Apple logo, and shut down. This is now what happens every time. What's happened??

See if it will boot in Safe Mode. (hold the Shift key when booting.)

  • Need help? My laptop overheats and shuts down when up loading

I installed Premier Elements 8 on Vista and finished my first video and when I try to upload through the share option to youtube Before 1/2 way my laptop overheats and shuts down. I have tried several times. I tried pluging laptop directly in to network so I was not uploading wireless. No luck. I also tried turning my screen down so it would make less heat. I dont know what else to try.

What is happening is that the CPU and the HDD's are being stressed more than with most other operations. This is common and can be observed in places like Speedfan and Task Manager. There are a lot of files being written to, and read from. This is especially hard, if one only has a single internal HDD, as it must do so very much, and is being asked to do it all at the same time.
In general, editing Video is about the toughest task that one can ask of a computer. The Export phase is about as tough as editing gets. If one is editing AVCHD footage, the CPU usage goes up even higher and almost exponentially!
What you observe is not a fault of the software, but just how all NLE software must work.
Unfortunately, most laptops are not properly equiped with adequate cooling to begin with. They also usually have a single HDD. That was why I went with an extreme "gaming" laptop to start, and then modified it for NLE work. It works fine, but I had to add the cooling pad, and Speedfan.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Reinstall Wireless Every Time Laptop shuts down

So I have now had my Linksys wireless router up and running (sorta) for about 1 week.  Someone please tell me if this router is a piece of junk, or if all routers are so inconsistent?  Everytime my wireless laptop shuts down, I have to reload the set up again!  It's sooo frustrating.  I am afraid to update anything, or change any channels, because it took me hours upon hours to get it to work at all!  Any suggestions would help.
It's the WRT54GS router.  I'm beginning to beleive that it's a piece of junk , because I read, and read, and read about problems with it.

First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
However, your difficulty sounds like a problem with your laptop.  Download and install the latest driver for your wireless adapter.
After you setup the new driver, reboot, then go into the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete your current network.  Reboot computer.  Then return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  It should login automatically, usually within the first minute (may take up to 3 minutes) after you boot up.

  • Printer causes network to go down

We have an HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m. We have three computers (all Dells, two XP boxes and one Win7) and that printer physically wired through a Linksys WRT54GX2 router. We do use the wireless for laptops, the Wii, and a Kindle, but we do not print wirelessly. Several days ago, and after no changes to anything that we were aware of, we discovered that turning on the printer killed any kind of network connectivity. The computers couldn't see each other, they couldn't see the printer, and they certainly couldn't see the internet. Turning off the printer solves the connectivity problems.
I googled around on this and found some people who had similar problems trying to connect wirelessly, but we are wired. I tried cycling the router (disconnect from internet by pulling the cable, power off for 30 seconds, power back on, plug cable back in), but to no avail. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
    This question was solved.

I went to Linksys for a new firmware, and this is what I found:
    07/29/2011
The firmware/driver for this product is no longer available for download. We regret any inconvenience this may cause you.
So apparently I'm three months too late.
FWIW, the printer does seem to be set up with a static IP. When I look at the printer properties in the control panel it lists a specific IP address.
I'm stumped. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks all!

  • My hp printer is frozen at "shutting down". can you help?

My hp DeskJet 3050A is frozen at "shutting down" on screen.  Can you help?

Verify that power outlet is working with a lamp or other appliance.Verify power cord and power module are correct parts for that specific printer.Remove power cord and power module from printer and power outlet. Separate power cord and module (let stand for 15 seconds)Plug Power Cord into Power Module (plug firmly together)Plug Power Cord with module directly into WALL outlet (Remove any surge protector or extension cords and plug printer cord directly into wall socket)Check to see if power cord or module has LED light. If has LED make sure it is glowing (if not glowing then replace power cord and module)If no LED skip to step 7.Plug cord into printer - make sure it is plugged in properly and firmly.Press power button on printer to power up. If does not power up first time hit power button a few times to see if it works.IF you happen to have another printer with same power cord configuration (fits specs) try steps 1-8 again.IF printer will not power up at this point, then replace the printer.

  • Do I need to reinstall java for mac after maverick upgrade

I just updated to maverick on my macbook pro and everything works fine. When i went to the preferecne the java option wasnt there so I searched it in finder and saw all the folder for it still there. I still have the download too. When i went to play minecraft it said I didnt have it. So I was wondering if I need to install java 7 agian. Also im only using it for the game should I do anything else in terms of security?

    The short answer is.. No.
However, keep near by those SYSTEM and APPLICATIONS DVDs that came with your computer, just in case anything goes wrong.
... FYI... make sure to check SOFTWARE UPDATE after the install, for any updates to your iLife applications that will make them more compatible with Lion.

  • Needed to reinstall parts of Gnome after hardware problem?

Wasn't sure exactly where to post this, but I suppose this is the best place for it. Thankfully, I've already solved my problem but I wonder if anyone has any ideas on why it was a problem in the first place.
Apparently, either my CPU or my motherboard does not like the dynamic CPU scaling of my Pentium-M processor. In Windows, my laptop would sometimes lock up to the point where all I could do was hold the power button to turn it off. Nothing else responds. I fixed this in Windows by changing my power settings so that the CPU stays at a constant speed (apparently, it's just the CHANGING speeds of the processor that screws it up... I can start my computer at either full speed or its lowest speed and as long as I don't try to change that, I'm in no danger of freezing up). Well, I got CPU scaling working in Linux and I had the same problem... hard lock up of my computer where all I could do was power it off.
However, when I booted back into Linux and tried to get into Gnome, my wallpaper, icons, theme, and parts of Gnome itself were not working. I couldn't even log out at one point and just had to kill the xserver. After some pacman reinstalls of Gnome, gnome-session, gnome-themes, gtk, and gtk2 everything seems to be working fine again. What do you think happened? I use ReiserFS for my filesystem, but after using reiserfsck from Knoppix there were no errors on my drive. It was really strange. At least everything is working now. :-)

DarkPath wrote:Wasn't sure exactly where to post this, but I suppose this is the best place for it. Thankfully, I've already solved my problem but I wonder if anyone has any ideas on why it was a problem in the first place.
    interesting!
i was also using reiserfs3 on my pentium-m and after i installed (via pacman -U package....tar.gz) a package i had just built (it was nothing wrong with it, it contained a couple of files in /opt/ and no .install script...), a bunch of my files in /var and /opt disappeared. among them: gdm files, gnome icons, gnome desktop... some fonts.. i couldn't start X.
so: that was it? i don't know, the files just weren't there anymore. anyway, i sent my notebook back to check whether there is something wrong with its harddisk.
    i don't believe it's reiserfs's fault. at least not reiserfs3.
P.S. when pacman installed a package, it copied some files to /opt and updated /var/pacman.../. as i mentioned both /var and /opt were destroyed. it cannot be pacman's fault either. is it reiserfs's fault after all?

  • Adding Canon MP620 printer to network after new router installed

Just changed routers in order to get fibreoptic. all devices easily connected apart from Canon printer. Have re-installed drivers and followed directions but laptop ( windows7) just can't detect the printer...?

This is device specific problem. Try to contact Canon directly for help
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/standard_display/contact_us_consumer
Otherwise I would disable firewall and analyze the nework communication. If there are any error messages or error IDs in Event log (or even bad installation yellow question marks in device manager), then follow the appropriate troubleshooting steps.
It is useful to provide as much information as you can do so we can suggest repair steps. Sometimes it is better to remove driver with driver installation package and then reinstall the driver. (Otherwise some remnants of old driver software may case problems.)
Also optional update may cause ghost printer installation on different IP address.
Hope that the IP address pool is not exhausted and Canon can obtain IP address. (Ping may or may not work.)

  • Brother MFC 7440N - cannot see printer on network after software update!

Hi I have done a software update to OSX 10.8.3 on my macbook pro. But now I can't see my Brother MFC 7440N printer on the network. I have been on the Brother website and have downloaded all of the software / drivers for MAC, but there doesn't seem to be one for OSX 10.8.4. Can anyone suggest what I should do next.
By the way, I have already tried to reset the printers etc, but that didn't work as the printer cannot be found on the network.

From the printer (check your manual)
In case you can't find the manual here is the relevant section.
You're not going to change it so stop at section 4 (IP Address) don't proceed to 5 (Change)
