A Big Thanks.....

....to the UK Customer Support team. My daughter's iPhone 5c which we had bought ut of contract from O2, packed in a few weeks ago. After visiting an Apple Store, it was determined that there had been a hardware failure and I was advised to contact O2 with a view to obtaining a replacement under Consumer Goods Law.
However, O2 were extremely reluctant to make any kind of offer to repair/replace the phone and directed me back to Apple. When I spoke to the team at Apple again, I was passed onto a supervisor who came up with a solution to the problem, effectively arranging for me to pick up a new phone at no charge. I was told that he considered it unfair that I was caught between Apple and O2, so wanted to make sure that we didn't suffer any more problems.
So full marks to Apple and the wooden spoon to O2 for Customer Service - many thanks Apple.

Yes!!!! Thank you. I comment only when I can help, but I read this a couple times a day. You guys are the "Top of the Pops"!!!

  • HT2638 Hi, My Iphoto (on Mavericks) shows me a thumbnail but actually it is another photo whan you open it up...any idea what the problem could be? big thanks!

This has happened since my snow leopard update to be fair. I continuously mess up all of my "events" with photoes that shoul now be there due to this mistake.
    Anyone know something about it?
    Big thanks in advance

given the time this problem has existed hard to say what the results will be but Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your thumbnails - this may take several tries

  • A great big thank you!

    Hey everyone,
I just received the 50th order of the Arch Linux Handbook, a print version of the Beginner's Guide in the wiki.  That's 50 copies in less than a month! I was hoping to sell 20 copies in six months, so I am shocked at the purchases and wanted to give everyone a great big thank you for supporting Arch. You all are truly the best community any distro could ask for.
    Dusty

I'll be placing my order for a copy next month Dusty.
I would have placed it this month but there are a few schwag items I just can't live without first !
I do think a copy of the book should be a requirement for any true Archer.

  • Big Thanks to Apple Care! Good News Post

99% of the post here are people with problems so i thought I would post some good news. Last week my iPhone got the White Screen of Death!!! I called the 1-800 number. I was told I get a new one mailed to me for $29 or I could go get one at a local Mac Store (that was over 2 hours away) I decided to travel to the store in Atlanta. 2 hours on Saturday. Got back with the new phone and guess what. The WiFi doesn't work!! My wife's phone and daughter's touch finds wifi easy but my new phone, NOTHING!!! I called today and was upset and told them I could NOT drive 2 hours again and can't see why I should pay $29 for a shipping when THEY give me a BROKE phone! They waved the free, sending me a new phone again over night!! They were VERY easy to talk and deal with! I thought for sure I would have the fight for the fee to be waved. They did place a credit hold on my credit card but that is just to make sure I send my phone back. So a BIG thanks to Apple Care!

Well, LukeD , that's one of the nicest pieces of feedback, I've seen on these boards!
Many thanks for the kind words. Such things matter far more to each of us, I suspect, than any acknowledgment or not from Apple!
And there are plenty of others who contribute here greatly (too numerous to name) , too, of course and make it a place worth coming back to for us all.
    Cheers

  • Big Thanks for being a premium subscriber

I got the email yesterday informing me of group video calling now being free and "But as a big thanks for
being a Premium subscriber, we're giving you calling to countries around the
world at no extra cost. "
I tried to test this today but couldn't get anywhere with it.  So I contacted Skpe support via chat and got told that I don't get free calls to 63 countries, I only get to choose 1 country.  I already had 1 country so does that mean my big thanks is actually thank for nothing?  Has anyone actually tried using the free calls via the new offer???

Same issue here. Nice to get the email but they havent actually sorted this issue.
Any ideas when this will be active because if they dont put me on World Calling I dont need Premium, I only purchased it for the video conferencing. World Calling may keep me.

  • Please be so kind as to relook your Afrikaans translations? Not all of it is correct. However, a BIG thanks for making the effort!

It seems that a couple of phrases on the Afrikaans Firefox are direct translations from English and is not quite correct.
However, again a BIG thank you for having gone through the effort to have the language available.

Maybe file a bug report about that issue.

  • Big THANKS  to everyone in the community

I just came back from the sign-off meeting of our portal project at a large german medical company.
Full blown portal with SSO for :
3 Lotus Notes Applications, SAP Online Store, SRM 4.0, 3 different Internet Applications and Knowledge Manager.
All this in 4 month. Without this forum and this community, this would have been nearly impossible. I was impressed by the speed and the quality of the answers and the patience and knowledge of the contributors.
As you can tell by my statistics, 45 questions, 125 discussion (and some contributions by myself), this was all in this one project. The last answer for a mission-critical question came 15 minutes before deadline.
It was the first SAP project in my 20 years as SAP-Consultant that a "project sign off" ended with standing ovations for the project crew.
    BIG thanks to the community

    Try this driver.
Go to Control Panel and uninstall Intel ProSet.  Restart.  Install the driver.  After the driver is installed, open the properties of the wireless adapter.
Set channel width to Auto on both 2 and 5 bands
Ad hoc QoS mode, WMM enabled.  If your router has this setting, enable it.
    HT Mode:  VHT
    Roaming aggressiveness Medium
    Transmit power Highest
    Wireless mode a/b/g
In Power Mgt, set "allow computer to turn off this device" to enabled.
In the router, set encryption to WPA2 PSK Personal.  Don't use TKIP, it maxes out at 54 Mbps.
These are my settings and my T440p with that adapter works fine.  I've tried all of the subsequent drivers and they've all had problems with waking after sleep.  If you get your system stable and working to specificiation, leave it alone.  A newer driver won't make it any better.
Note:  I'm also connecting to a newer AC router.  I suspect that not all routers perform equally well with this part.

  • A big THANK YOU to B. NOIR! because...

I just experienced my first "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close" warning!, when I booted up my machine this morning and tried to launch iTunes. I tried and tried to coax iTunes to open but I wasn't successful! Next, I decided to back up my iTunes library--it' been about two weeks since I last did this and I've purchased a number of new tunes in the meantime, plus I endured the iTunes Plus upgrade in the interim. All of this was worth trying to save!
Then, I tried a few times to launch iTunes, but dang it--iTunes refused to open. Thanks to reading the many helpful posts by b. noir I knew right away Quick Time was probably the culprit. Sure enough--I tried to open Quicktime independently and it caused an error.
I solved my problem by opening my Add/Remove Programs folder and "changing" (i.e. repairing) Quicktime. (I first tried to do this with my Norton program active and the fixes failed! The next time I tried, I turned off my virus protection and my firewall, then things seemed to work correctly.)
However, please know that I did have to reboot my computer before the corrections took effect!
Now, all is well and iTunes works fine again!
Anyway, this is a big shoutout to b. noir for helping me find the solution from all of his forum posts. I didn't even have to ask a question in the forums, I already knew what the answer would be! And, it was the correct answer!
Thank you "b. noir" and all of the other helpful volunteers on this site! I would not have known how to solve this problem so quickly otherwise. In fact, I'm sure I would have spent the bulk of this day trying to get iTunes to open.
    --Samdogmom

I'm sorry to hear you are having the same problem. Here's one of b. noir's posts about how to fix it:
Re: "iTunes has encountered an error and has to close"
Posted: Jan 23, 2006 8:06 AM in response to: MAJR
    well done MAJR!
just a note on the error message "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close".
there are actually at least three different contexts in which people get this message, and the treatments will differ depending on the context. here's some info on the three most common contexts.
"itunes has encountered a problem ..." when LAUNCHING ITUNES
this is the most common time to see the message. in my experience, 90% of the time this is caused by a broken QuickTime 7.0.x. So the first thing people should check for is whether their Quicktime will launch, or whether it gives them an error message when they try to launch it.
if you get an error message when you try to launch Quicktime, the standard treatment is to swap out your QuickTime. there's actually an Apple KB doc on the problem, although the silly sausages have given the error message incorrectly in the doc (as of the 23 December 2005 revision), which makes it more difficult to find the message when you're searching for it:
iTunes 6 for Windows unexpectedly quits when opened
... that method is pretty servicable in the majority of cases, but it leaves you open to a known complication of a broken Quicktime where people can't uninstall their QT and get an error message citing their QuickTime "uninstall.log". so i usually suggest to people that they try a careful standalone QT 7.0.4 reinstall instead (which gets past the "uninstall.log" error):
download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 installer to your hard drive. (run the install from there rather than online.) switch off all antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
known complications of QuickTime reinstalls: the most common (for QT versions 7.0.2 and 7.0.3 and iTunes versions 5.0.0.35 through 6.0.1.3, at least) is an error message citing "Error 0x80040707". in this context (again, the treatments for this error message are context dependent too), the most common cause of the Error 0x80040707 is a snarlup in the QT installation registry entries.
what typically fixes it is the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
use the utility to clear the existing Quicktime entries. then try the careful standalone QT 7.0.4 reinstall again.
other known causes of "itunes has encountered a problem ..." on launch: probably the most common of the rarer causes (if you'll pardon the oxymoron) is a rare weird problem to do with the registry and user accounts on XP machines.
to check for that, first head into your "User Accounts" control panel and create a new user account with full administrative privileges. (there's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off "Fast User Switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now, log out of the old account and log into the new account. can you get itunes to launch inside the new account?
if itunes does launch inside the new account, then try an experiment (this rules out an ultra-rare "false positive diagnosis" of the registry/user-account thing). use the following technique to share the music from your old account to the new account:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
if itunes still launches from the new account once you've shared the music from the old account to the new account, then you've got the registry/user-account thing.
fixing the old account might be tricky. we've had mixed success with combinations of complete uninstalls of itunes using the following technique:
Da Gopha: Stepwise clean uninstallation of iTunes
... followed by application of a Registry repair program such as RegCleaner or Registry Fix. failing that, it might be worth just "moving house" to the new account.
(there are other even rarer causes of this message on launch ... if you believe you've got one of those, best to start your own thread and explicitly explain as best as you can what the behavior is and what steps you've already taken to try to resolve the issue.
"itunes has encountered a problem ..." when IMPORTING A CD
in iTunes versions 4.9 through 6.0.1.3 this was most commonly caused by a hyperthreading problem on PCs with dual cores and dual processors. on those versions of iTunes, the workaround was to set the itunes affinity to a single core/processor. (Otto42 is our authority on that topic.) but the bug has been fixed in iTunes 6.0.2:
iTunes for Windows quits unexpectedly importing CDs on a dual-processor or dual-core computer
"itunes has encountered a problem ..." when PLUGGING IN AN IPOD
the most mysterious of the three main classes. there doesn't seem to be a common cause of this one (or at least it hasn't been clearly identified yet).
probably the first things to check up on are:
iTunes for Windows may unexpectedly quit when syncing folders of pictures with iPod
... but if no joy there, this is probably the best next port of call:
Troubleshooting an unexpected quit or restart of Windows, iTunes, or QuickTime

  • Big Thank You

I just wanted to say without this forum I would not have a working computer. I have worked in the computer field for 7 years and built countless systems. Imagine my surprise when I recently built a system based on a Prescott and learned that building a PC is not as straightforward as I though. I had three seperate issues that you guys helped me with, and I can confirm some issues with the prescott. My PC is built on the 880 Neo
1st issue-PC would not boot, so after browsing the forums I found that my power supply was way inadequate (250 watt CompUSA power suppy). After reading about PSU I went to a Antec true power 430, no worries. At least now my PC would boot to hang after Post
2nd issue-Would not boot off of floppy or CD. Prescott CPU would not allow me to boot, so I took machine to work and swapped out a P4 Northwood and flashed Bios to 1.4. After flash I was finally able to install OS
3rd issue- After looking on here I learned to get rid of CoreCenter and get speedfan. At that point I learned my PC was going to like 52-55 C at idle. I then applied another layer of Artic Paste, and then just to be sure I added a case fan. Now my machine idles ate 44 C and maxes to 61 C under load.
Thanks to you guys I got all of my issues sorted out and machine is working, and I must say I am very satisfied with my prescott. Thank you for all of you help, and for those that have problems it is possible to get answers here without even posting a question, just use the search function.
And I can confirm that 1.4 Bios or better is needed to run a Prescott. Here are my specs. very powerful machine
    Antec case
    Antec Tru Power 430 PSU
    2.8 GHZ Prescott
    880 Neo MB
280 GB Seagate HD space (80 Gig, 200 Gig)
    1 GB Kingston memory

    Hi,
As Danny said........ And thank you taking time to reply/post here.
OK upgrade BIOS too 1.7......... You will not be disappointed.......better POST and faster USB hardware detect times.....
Oh and write down BIOS settings before you update......then you can just set again as in 1.4 bios......

  • Hi. People stealed MacAir pf my daughter from our house. Is there a way to monitor if it sold anywhere? Big thanks. Ciao Roberto

Hi to all. People stealed MacAir of my daugher from our house (we was in vacation). Is there a way to see if it has  been sold somewhere? Thanks. Roberto

In order to be able to locate your stolen Mac, all the following conditions would need to apply:
    1. You need to have an iCloud account.
    2. The stolen Mac needs to be signed into it.
    3. You must have enabled the 'Find My Mac' application on the Mac (http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmfc0f0c67)
    4. The stolen Mac must be on, not wiped, and able to connect to a network.
If any of these conditions does not apply then I'm afraid it is not possible to locate your Mac.

    It validates now!
Minus the one random page I happen to check.
Too bad target attribute doesn't validate in xhtml strict
Use something like jQuery to open a page in a new window while validating your code.
    $('a[@rel$='external']').click(function(){

  • Big Thanks

I would like to thank all those who helped me solve the problem I was having. The responses were vey quick & right on. It's too bad Adobe doesn't have an easier way to edit out & replace bad audio. I just want to say thanks again
    onelane

I second Steve's sentiments. Hearing a user say, "got it working," is music to our ears.
As there are often many ways to achieve the same result, one might get recs. for several possible workflows. Adobe is great in hosting these fora, as they do not insist that all workflows MUST contain only Adobe products. While I use those for 95%+ of my work, there are other programs, that just do a better job for the particular Project.
I do agree that Audio editing is a bit limited, in both PrE and even PrPro. They do a good job with most of what one would need to do, but are, afterall, Video editors. That is where Adobe Audition comes into the workflow for me. The freeware program, Audacity, can do much of that work, as can other programs. At the end of the day, these programs are but "tools," and one's toolbox should contain many of them.
    Happy editing,
    Hunt
