A big thankyou to Apple

Hi Everyone,
Well after almost 18 months of constant work, 2 versions of Pages and numerous backups, Thomas Strange 3 is finished. Sorry I can't say the real title yet the publisher still wants to keep it a mystery.
Anyway, I have to say a big thanks to Apple for creating an application that makes the process of writing so much easier. Unfortunately I've now had to save the document as Word so that the editor can do his bit. I still can't convince him to get a computer that just works.
I wish everyone on the list a pleasant break and new year. I do drop in often though I've been a bit lack of posting of late.
Cheers
Chris

Hi, I am new to the site and a new iMac user. (prev pc with microsoft office and microsoft works.
Congratulations!! I want to write. I aologize if you have heard this many times.
I "journal" and want to use home computer and laptop. I currently have a HP laptop with Micrpsoft Works. I tried writing a file in AppleWorks6 on my Mac and emailed to myself. Likewise I wrote something on the laptop and emailed it. My laptop opened the Appleworks file but it made no sense, my iMac will not open the text from the HP. It said something like no application. I tried apple works, wouldn't open, and there is a 30 day trial on iWork but it would not open, so I may have done it incorrectly. Bottom line is I want to work on the same thing from both computers. I am seriously wondering about getting a macbook for this. And if I do, what program works? What did you do??? Thank You!! Sandy Bowling

Apple is encouraging you to troubleshoot your problem instead of waiting for someone else to do something about it.

  • Big Thanks to Apple Care! Good News Post

99% of the post here are people with problems so i thought I would post some good news. Last week my iPhone got the White Screen of Death!!! I called the 1-800 number. I was told I get a new one mailed to me for $29 or I could go get one at a local Mac Store (that was over 2 hours away) I decided to travel to the store in Atlanta. 2 hours on Saturday. Got back with the new phone and guess what. The WiFi doesn't work!! My wife's phone and daughter's touch finds wifi easy but my new phone, NOTHING!!! I called today and was upset and told them I could NOT drive 2 hours again and can't see why I should pay $29 for a shipping when THEY give me a BROKE phone! They waved the free, sending me a new phone again over night!! They were VERY easy to talk and deal with! I thought for sure I would have the fight for the fee to be waved. They did place a credit hold on my credit card but that is just to make sure I send my phone back. So a BIG thanks to Apple Care!

Well, LukeD , that's one of the nicest pieces of feedback, I've seen on these boards!
Many thanks for the kind words. Such things matter far more to each of us, I suspect, than any acknowledgment or not from Apple!
And there are plenty of others who contribute here greatly (too numerous to name) , too, of course and make it a place worth coming back to for us all.
    Cheers

in the iPhoto preferences ==> accounts delete your e-mail account and reenter it
    OR
IMHO the better solution is to set Apple mail as the email client in the iPhoto preferences

  • Attachment downloading--is there a way to track percentage of big downloads in Apple Mail 5.2? (OSX Lion)

I have a satellite internet connection and have trouble with big downloads and connectivity in Apple Mail.  I've discovered the Window/Activity button to track the progress of those downloads, but all it gives me is a rolling barbershop bar that never goes anywhere.  Right now I'm trying to download fifteen attachments that came with a message, and some of the files (primarily pdfs) show up in their designated folders--others have not.  Is there a way to track percentage on these downloads?
Also, each of the files seems to have three progress bars rather than just one.
    All files are primarily 3-4MB.
    Thanks,
    Melissa

The inconsistent message text view and when the text for an received message is very small is caused by the sender using HTML for message composition.
Copied from Why HTML in E-Mail is a Bad Idea.
Because it introduces accessibility problems. When you write in plain text, the receiving mail client renders the text in whatever font the reader chooses. When you format email with HTML, the sender controls the formatting. But this is a trap: You only think your message will render the same way to the viewer as it appears to the sender. In reality, the receiver can end up squinting because the font looks so tiny, or vice versa. HTML is not rendered the same way from one viewing client to the next - all guarantee of accessiblity goes out the window. This is especially problematic for visually impaired persons.
The Mail.app does not include a preference setting to convert all text for received messages to RTF or Plain Text so what John provided does not apply when receiving a message that was composed in HTML.
You can do as woodie provided or with such as message open, at the menu bar go to View > Message and select Plain Text Alternative and what John provided will apply and it also applies when the sender uses RTF or Plain Text for message composition.

  • Display is too big using my apple TV first generation

The display is too big for my screen. For instance I can't see the left most column of the keyboard.

Check you TV aspect ratio or zoom settings via the TV remote.

  • Battery - the big problem of apple!

One morning I found my MacPro surrounded in a liquid (battery* water). I brought it to a Mac service station and over three weeks after got the information: irreparable and no guarantee! and this after only 18 months!!! do i have to accept this verdict??!!

In the US, and in many other countries, Apple only warranties their computers for 12 months, unless you purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan. If you're not in the US, you should check the consumer laws of your country to find if you have further recourse.
I've never heard of any liquid inside of a MacBook Pro battery. The machine could probably be repaired but the cost would likely be quite expensive - better off just buying a new machine.
Just curious - did the Apple techs acknowledge that the liquid came from the battery?

  • God Bless You All! A BIG THANKYOU!

Thanks to everyone who has posted help for the well known problem of Itunes not recognising the Ipod! I have a 30GB Ipod Photo which was working perfectly well until I installed the latest updater 2005-26-06 with Itunes 4.9. My ipod just could not be recognised by Itunes until I reverted to USB 1.1 and restored my Ipod back to updater 2005-03-23.
I had all the problems with the 2005-26-06 that have been mentioned elsewhere; Firmware Update Failure, Format Disk Write Error etc etc. I persevered and after a total of 10hrs slogging my way through the discussion pages I then did the following:
    1. Disabled USB 2.0 by using device manager.
    2. Restored back to updater 2005-03-23
    3. Plugged my Ipod into the mains to flash the system.
    4. Plugged my Ipod back into my laptop and BINGO!
I now have my beloved Ipod up and running again and will be forever grateful!

I was having issues as well. So being a lurker more than a poster, I came across this which has a few solutions too -

Purchasing the firewire, and connecting that way worked for me!
    Thanks and good luck!!

  • Big thanks to Apple

I ordered a new 32GB iPod touch the very evening they were announced. It was a valentines present for my Wife and I ordered the engraving on the back.
When it arrived the engraving was the wrong way round, ie the personal engraving was all over the area with the serial number and other markings. After one phone call to Apple which was answered immediately they shipped out a new one to me and uplifted the bad one - and all was sorted really painlessly and effortlessly in just a couple of days - and still in time for Valentines!

Good to hear Apple is still offering an excellent service!

  • BIG THANKYOU TO MOD STUART

Thankyou Stuart and the rest of the mod team for being the only people that actually listen and bend over backwards to help people with broadband problems, these guys should be the main call centre for customer service and fault reporting, BT should sack the entire team in india, they are terible, no manners, and treat you like 2 year olds with no knowlegde of what your talking about. Thanks again guys, although im having issues(maybe) with neighbours electrical equipment, everything else that can be done as been done, and im very gratefull for all the help and work you have put in to help resolve my broadband issues.

    Nice post boe
I'll second that. It's terribly sad that, despite expertise being available BT will not see fit to extend it to provide decent customer service on demand. Alas, it's the industry standard and there is no commercial incentive to improve as long as their rivals are just as bad or worse. So much for the benefits of competition which were promised when our services were privatised.

  • BIG Problem with Apple login

Hi, Ive been on the phone all morning with an Apple representative but even she cant seem to sort it out.
I upgraded to ios 7 yesterday (I waited because of all the nightmare bugs that were reported)
Now I cant access my apple account.  It says my password is not recognised.  When I try to change it, I get the email, change the password, get an email saying password changed but when I try and access with the new password, it comes up with the same error message.
It keeps going around in a loop and is very frustrating. I cant get any of my apps or itunes stuff.
    Can anyone help?  Please!!!

Probably won't help but there might be something here that triggers a solution

  • Birthday and iCal...the big fail of Apple

Why it isn't possible for Apple to program iCal right in the year 2009?
I want that my contacts with birthday entries automaticly get entries in iCal. But what is with OS 3.0 no Birthday entry is seen.

Ok, maybe I forgot the check box in iTunes, but it will not resolve the problem I have.
If I add a new contact on my iPhone and set a birthday for him, it will not appear in iCal on my iphone.
Maybe it will appear after synchronisation with iTunes, but it isn't uptodate, isn't it?

  • Big question at Apple!!!!!!

Can someone tell me from Apple why the **** in Greece the Iphone costs double the price of the US stores???

    Ntinaras wrote:
Do you know whats the price of 5s in greece now?1000 euro...
and in us 515 euro...why they dont let us buy from US online....
Because your country's import laws won't allow Apple to do that without adding on the VAT and other import duties, which is part of why the price is higher in your country. Also the US Apple Store sells different models of iPhone then they do in Greece.
Also, if you're seeing prices for the iPhone 5S in Greece, those are being quoted by unauthorized resellers who are bringing in iPhones from other countries (if they'll deliver anything to you at all; many are fradulent offers) and are charging a premium price for those who just can't wait. Apple has not yet released the iPhone 5S in Greece so official pricing is not yet available.
If you really want to understand why official prices are higher in your country, talk to a local economist or expert on international trade. But the bottom line is that if you don't like the price, don't buy the product.
    Regards.

  • Quicken for Mac vs. Microsoft Money Plus I made the big change to Apple.

Ok first off want to say I just bought my Mackbook with Apple Care from Amazon. Save about 175.00 with them so now its Mac time... well soon as it gets here.
Now for the question... ok for those who answer this question I just want to say I still like windows and Microsoft is ok with me so not a hater. Now what is your thoughts on Quicken vs. MS Money. A lot of reviews seem to go against the Mac version of Quicken. Would you recommend installing MS XP and staying with money or going with Quicken.

I maid up my own mind.

  • Thankyou Apple

A big thankyou to Apple at Bluewater. Spent a few trips back of forward of late as my iMac's disk drive had started to fail, would no longer recognise many cd's or burn any and I also managed to get a blank dvd stuck in it.
Picked it up today - new superdrive fitted and best of all no charge - yippeee
    Thats quality service for you.
    Drew

Funny... I've been compelled to write in these forums ever since I purchased my iPhone! Dust started collecting under my screen after a week, so I sent it back. Eager to please and with great enthusiasm, they replaced my iPhone immediately! with a refurbished phone that had a blown speaker...
Then I got a dropped call while talking to customer support. I'm so absolutely infuriated and on the edge that I can barely NOT kill everyone in sight. But at least I was nice to CS agent on the phone. That's good karma, right?
