A bit disappointed.

IOS8.3 is killing my IPad's batery life. I'm a first gen iPad mini owner, and I downloaded the new OS cause I saw all the improvements it has, especially the one with improved performence.  But my battery has gone from 100% to 50% in about 2 hours with moderate usage. It usually lasts me from 1 to 2 days with moderate to light usage. Any tips, please?

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know.  If the above test does, in fact, indicate a problem, read this.
Also, according to Apple:
Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • Just bought a new iMac Intel core 2 duo - a bit disappointed.

    Got to say I am a bit disappointed. I have owned a G5 and previously a G4.
On those boxes World Book Encyclopedia came installed.
Sherlock is gone with Leopard (I understand that we should use Dashboard to replace those functions, but I liked Sherlock).
Marble Blast - which my children loved, is gone.
So is NanoSaur - another game my kids loved.
I used Deja Vue in 10.4 to back up my software, but now it too is gone.
So 5 software features that I appreciated have disappeared.
    Anybody know what gives?

First of all, please excuse me for hijacking your thread but I cannot find on here where or how to start my own!
I am totally computer illiterate and that's why I bought a Mac!
I have had them for years but this new one is really throwing me!
I just made the terrible mistake of downloading the updates that flashed on my screen upon turning it on this morning. Now this computer is going crazy!
When I click on the dashboard, there are all these loud thumpings until I click it back off!
When I try to use my browser (Firefox) it keeps skipping all over the place! I'm amazed I am even able right now to type this!
My son (who builds PC's) told me NOT to download those stupid "updates" and did I listen to him? NO!
Now my computer is ruined! The last time something like this happened to me on my G4, I had to take it to Comp USA to get it "fixed" to the tune of $169! All because of the stupid "updates" apple keeps sending to me.
PLEASE! Can someone help me! After buying this new computer three months ago, I just CANNOT afford to spend $169 on this one to "fix" it!

  • Quite a bit disappointed by adobe flash player 10

I'm quite disappointed by the failure of adobe to publish a
64bit version of the flash player 10. This leaves a lot of people
with a less stable, less secure and less performing solution. A
    real pity.
    Richie

You don't want 10 anyway, its really just not ready for
    release.

  • A bit disappointed in Apple

I upgraded the hardware in my older (2006) iMac sometime ago. Because of that, it has all the hardware requirements to run either Lion or Mavericks OS. But, Apple doesn't allow allow any of the OS updates just because of the model #. The word "Apple" has left a bad taste in my mouth ever since I wasn't able to update back when Lion was first released.

Sorry, but a 2006 iMac cannot be upgraded to Mavericks > OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
To run Mavericks, an iMac must be mid 2007 or later.

  • Visio Professional 2010 64 bits

    Hi Guys,
Just installed the trial of Adobe PDF XI Pro, and bought a licenese which I will recieve today.
The question is, what is up with Visio 2010 and the Adobe Ribbon bar tab?
I run the Visio 2010 64bits, and there is no ribbon from Adobe showing up.
My office version is the same 2010 and 64 bits, and there (Excel, Word) it does show up.
    I use Visio a lot though, ...
I saw there have been issues before with the X version which has been patched for use with 64bits office.
Do i have to wait for a patch regarding Visio 2010 64bits or am I overlooking something, and is it already there?
    Regards,
    Jur

The COM add-on I did check already, it did not show up there.
But that makes sense I see, *Note:  Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Visio are no longer supported in Acrobat XI
Which makes no sense, that’s a bit disappointing.

  • How to get a macbook pro replacement under warranty?

I bought my Macbook pro 6 months ago, and it's still under warranty right now. I used some laptops of SONY VAIO & Microsoft before, and I did not experience any problems with them in the first 2 years. This year, I decided to give Macbook pro a try because I have heard many compliments about this laptop from my friends and advertisements. When I opened the box and used it in the 1st time, I noticed that the button CAPS LOCK wasn't good, and I had to press it 2-3 times to make it work. It has happened for 6 months, until now. I felt a little bit disappointed, but I still use it because I am an easy customer. But recently, whenever I turn on the SLEEP MODE for my laptop and work with my laptop later on, my laptop often experiences the PAUSE or freezing. I don't know how to describe it, but there is a round circle with rainbow colors appear on the screen and pause everything/programs is running. My laptop has never been felt out or scratch. It's just 6 months since the day I purchased the laptop. I should not experience this trouble with my laptop because I think the Macpro is better than the SONY VAIO or other laptops. I feel like I was sold a refurbished Mac, and I am really disappointed. My friend told me to bring my Mac to be fixed in Apple store, but I don't want to continue using a fixed, refurbished Mac. Can I get a replacement? If I bought it in Bestbuy, could I got replacement in Apple Store or Bestbuy store?

    Can I get a replacement?
    No - see below

  • Display issues, system failures, lock ups- oh my!

    Hi all,
For the last few months I've begun to experience significant issues with my Macbook Pro. I got it back in early 2006, so I believe it's one of the original models. Specs below:

    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

    Online: Yes

    Current Software info:
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.7 (9J61)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 9.7.0
    Boot Volume: Macintosh HD
    Boot Mode: Normal
So, to explain my issues... I have experienced the following:
*Temporary lockups involving a "beach ball of death" spinning for maybe 5-10 seconds, then going back to normal.
*Much longer lockups with the spinny ball that can only be solved by the computer's lid being shut, waiting for sleep, and then re-opening it.
*Lockups you simply don't recover from- the screen getting "messy" with artefacts and scrambled images, bits of random colours, and no movement at all. These I have to restart the laptop physically to recover from.
As time has gone on in the past few months, these are getting worse and worse. I thought it was overheating, but the temperatures seem okay and I have a laptop cooling pad for it. Then there's the completely random screen tearing and artefacts that seem to be happening; Safari, iTunes, Football Manager 2008, Firefox, Seashore... all these apps that I use on a consistent basis appear to discolour, tear, introduce horizontal lines across the screen, and just generally completely @#$% up the look of the desktop. What's going on there? :S It almost seems like it could be a graphics card issue, but that's why I'm asking here I suppose.
The issues are getting more frequent, and it's a bit disappointing because, while I imagined that I would get a new laptop one day, I was under the impression macs had a good staying power and I could at least keep it working as a backup at home or give it to my brother. Now it appears that this one might have a terminal problem, be out of warranty, and thus most expensive to fix. Or is it?
Anyone have an idea what I might be experiencing here?

A failing hard drive can cause all sorts of problems by operating erratically. Your first priority should be to be sure you have a good backup of your data on an external drive, just in case the drive fails completely. Otherwise data recovery could be very expensive.
You might try booting from your install disc to the Apple Hardware test. This will take the hard drive out of the equation, and you can see if the video problems persist, even when booted from a disc. Run the extended version of the Apple Hardware test and see if you get any error codes. If so, post back with them.
While booted from the install disc, you can also navigate to Disk Utility from the menu bar, select your drive, and see if you can repair it. Since it is failing physically, repairing the software part will not actually fix it, but it might make it work better temporarily.
Replacing your hard drive is worth doing if there are no other serious problems with your Mac. You can upgrade to a faster and bigger drive--up to 500 GB's if you like. However, you do want to be sure that you don't have any logic board problems first.
One thing you could consider doing is getting an external drive, preferably FireWire, and installing the OS on it with your installation discs. Then you could boot from the external and see how the display behaves when booted from a new drive. That would give you a good idea of how your Mac would run if you replaced the drive.
Normally I would suggest making a bootable clone of your internal drive using a cloning utility like Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
Either one can be downloaded and run for free. If you want to free up the more useful features of Super Duper, you can register a copy for about US $28. CCC is donation ware.
You could still use one of these to make a clone of your internal drive as a back up, but keep in mind there may be some corruption from the failing hard drive which would just get cloned. But these utilities are great for backing up a good drive.
    Good luck!

  • Usb 6009....mx base....and other musings

I've recently received a few usb-6009 devices, and, like most of the other people here on the boards, have had my share of problems getting the things up and going.
    If I understand correctly....
I can create an empty task in LabView with a VI.  This VI however doesn't give me the option of choosing differential or single ended analog in measurements.  To do this, I need to use the config utility to create a task, and then import it into my program.
What isn't clear is HOW I get the task I create in the config utility into my program.  Thoughts?
I will admit that I'm a bit disappointed that the devices, while convienient in size and price, have so many idiosyncrasies in the software.  Not having the full arsenal of VI's or compatability with MAX makes getting these up and going a bit painful.
    Brandon

    Hi
I've been trying to get a USB-6009 to work for a few days now. I was using DAQmx 7.4 and DAQmx Base v 1.4. Max Explorer would show the device  under USB Devices but I couldn't get any of the Tasks from the DAQmx Task Configuration Utility to show up in Labview. If I used the intermediate vi's to create a task and a physical channel name I did get to take measurements with the device.
Since I realy needed to use global channels and tasks set up in Max Explorer I was hoping that the new upgrade to DAQmx 7.5 would solve the problem. I removed DAQmx Base and DAQmx 7.4 and loaded 7.5. Unfortunately I'm still unable to use the 6009 device. Again the device shows up in the USB devices and I'm now able to give it an alias but when I try to set up a global channel it says I have 'No supported devices found'. If I look at 'NI-DAQmx for USB Devices Getting Started' which I think was included with the 7.5 update that suggests that it should be seen in the DAQmx devices, but in my case it doesn't.
I guess I've missed out some crutial stage but as yet I can't figure out what that might be. Has anyone been able to use the USB-6009 with DAQmx 7.5 (or v7.4 for that matter)?

  • Where do I read in the documentation the list of the system properties?

Yep. Sounds stupid. But it's true. I read in all these forums where and how to set the truststore and so on but it would be beautiful to understand it my own.
    1. First I read setting the -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore in the VM arguments.
    2. Then I find out the the -D is just for setting something like a static property.
    3. Next I want to read about the system properties. Who, what and where the Java tries to get this system property. I do not find it.
What I find is great help in these forums and solving this kind of problems seems easy... I googled and the only place I found info about this is in a boulder.ibm.com site:
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/rzaha/sysprop2.htm
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/rzaha/rzahajssesysprops.htm
I also found some info on a sun tutorial but not an official documentation. Do you know where to find it? It seems that my learning is always about finding the right place to find information and not guessing and trying.
    Thanks!!

Thanks for your soon reply. Yeah, I found that but I really was expecting a more serious documentation.
I have to admit that it is documented. Yes. But I didn't expect to find that in middle of a guide. But more in a reference or in a specification document. It's inside the "Customization" and in a table, yes... But it's a guide!!
I like Java but something to worry about is the "too many - too less" documentation. Documentation is not clear enough and all the hundreds of options you have can make the programming with Java no good. It would sound like a good thing have a lot of choices and hundreds of places to look info for but I am a bit disappointed with that. It's not clear enough to find the right info.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help!! I will have to live with that.

    Hi, Wobble Woo.
The repeated kernel panic you're experiencing is a common issue on the mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15". I have the same laptop and the same issue. It's caused by the descrete graphics card. One solution, albeit a bit disappointing and temporary, is to use an application called gfxCardStatus. It runs in the statusbar and tells you which GPU is running. You can use the application to set your laptop to use the integrated GPU only, which will put an end to your kernel panics. But if you are using applications which require heavy graphics (such as photoshop and most video games), you'll just have to count your luck.
Some other users have had their motherboard successfully replaced. Take it to an Apple Store and ask them to run a GPU test. They should find the error (a manufacture defect, it seems) and replace your motherboard, with or without warranty. I hope this helps.
    Regards

  • Touch screen froze on 3 consecutive palm pre's within about a 5 month span

My wife has a palm pre through sprint nextel. The first one lasted 4 days and screen froze up.  Sprint tech personnel at store could not fix phone or determine cause of the frozen screen. The sprint retail store replaced the phone. We took this phone and used it up until late August when yet again the screen froze just prior to our vacation. Hastily, we took it to a local authorized third party store, Wireless Co.  Their repair personnel looked at the phone and yet again could not determine the cause.  They replaced it as well with a refurbished phone. This third phone finally froze just like the previous two on 27DEC09. We took it to the sprint store the next day.  The techs looked at it decided that it was due to a liquid/subtance under the back cover just above the battery.  They refused to replace the phone a third time.  They offered only that (a) we use our insurance plan or (b) trade the phone in and renew our two year contract to get a discounted phone.  These phones have never been submersed in any liquid. The tech rep at the sprint store suggested humidity from being in the bathroom could have caused the problem. I paid full price for the first phone.  I don't think I need to point out I am a bit disappointed with the palm pres lifespan. If only sprint had the iphone.  The HTC hero or the instinct seem like our best alternatives now.  I dont think I will even consider the pixi.

  • Software Update, 10.6.6 installation error!!

Hi all, hope someone can help.
I have a Mac Pro running 10.6.5. I upgraded to 10.6.5 recently and had problems with this. When using Software Update, it would download, log out and install only to get an error at the end saying it couldn't install, with no explanation of why. I did some investigation and it boiled down to Safari (one of the updates in the list to install along with 10.6.5) wasn't being replaced. I had to delete Safari from my applications folder before updating. I tried rebuilding permissions and even installed from the installers from the apple download page. but until I deleted Safari from my apps folder it would fail every time.
Since I assumed that it was a corrupt copy of safari and all other update went ok I assumed I had fixed the problem.
Now I'm trying to install the update of 10.6.6 via Software Update. and I'm getting the same problems. It downloads, reboots, installs then at the end says that it was not installed because of an error and promps me to restart.
I have downloaded the update and run it from the desktop and it goes through the install as follows:-
    Installing
    optimizing system
    Moving files
    installation failed.
It seems that it isn't able to replace existing files on my system with new ones therefore fails the install.
Has anyone got any ideas? I have repaired permissions with disk utility and tried repairing them while booting from the 10.6.3 system disc, still no joy
    Many thanks

Worse problem here. I get the installation error then the computer attempts to reboot and I get locked at the gray background apple screen. Tried safe boot power on +SHIFT a status bar comes up and goes 3/4 away across and locks. Running permissions repair from Mac OEM disk set was no help. Had to do a time machine restore. Seems my install error is catastrophic. On the upside time machine works very well.. A bit disappointed with my Windows-esque crash

  • Parsing rowid in block dump

In a blockdump a rowid is represented like 01 00 03 00 00 00. I think I have found that this is parsed as file 010 block 00300 and row 0000. That makes sense for block and row. For file I think I've pieced together some info which would indicate that
