A bit of Advice about iwork and office

Sorry if this is maybe the wrong forum, but it was to 'general' for the iwork forum. I am going to purchase a macbook and of course i am going to work for school with it. Now I have one problem. As a Windows user I can only work with office so iwork would be new to me. And sometimes I got to make projects with my calssmates - All ( like me )poor windows users. So what would you advice me to go for iWork, MSOffice or Open Office ?
JTC

Stick to microsoft office. The macbook comes with a free 14 day (almost positive that it's that long) for both Office and iWork. No one can beat Microsoft Office because everyone already uses it and Office on the mac works seamlessly with pc's when transfering files. Also, with the purchase of office, you get 3 licences so you would be able to split the cost of it with 3 people/3 different computers. I have been using Macs for years and Microsoft Office works very well on the mac and you would easily be able to work with your students without worrying about compatibility problems.
I am sure Apple's iWork is great (obviously keynote is excellent) but depending on what you wish to do, Office might just be the easier solution.
If you look at the reviews of iWork you will notice many people love it, mostly for Keynote, and say that Pages needs work.

You need a Firewire cable to run between the two Macs.  Using Utility>Migration Assistant running on your new MacBook Pro, transfer what you want (with all the preferences and such) from your MacBook to your MBP.  Here's more info from Apple.
You might have an issue with the Serial number for Office, but hopefully you have that around.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need advice about coalesce and deallocate unused space

    Hi experts;
Here looking for an advice about coalesce and deallocate unused space.
I got this tablespace with 87% full, one of the table in that tablespace has 1,150,325 records.  I'm going to delete 500,000 records from that table, but to release the space used by those records I understand that I need to execute other procedure. I was reading about coalesce tablespace and deallocate unused space.
I found that apparently, both process can help me to free space. If you want to share with me your comments, about  advantages or disadvantages about them, in order I can take the best solution?
    Thanks for your comments.

    Hi
after deleted rows, the high water mark is still the same and so the size of the table. you need to bring down the water mark
here is what you need to do to bring down the high water mark. We do this monthly for performance purpose.
This is an EBS R12 system  but the procedures are the same for EBS database or non EBS database.
After you purge or delete data in a table
    1) alter table APPLSYS.WF_ITEM_ATTRIBUTE_VALUES move; <-- this operation will invalidate all indexes attache to the table
2)select owner, index_name, status from dba_indexes  -- list all invalid object for user APPLSYS
    where table_owner = upper('APPLSYS')
    and
    status NOT IN ('VALID','N/A');
3)spool idxrebuild.sql --generate script to rebuild indexes.
select 'alter index ' ||owner||'.'||index_name ||' rebuild online;'  from dba_indexes
    where table_owner = upper('APPLSYS')
    and
    status <> 'VALID';
    4) run idxrebuild.sql   -- to rebuild indexes.  -- at this point if you check spaces on the table, it is still the same, you need to run #5
5)exec fnd_stats.gather_schema_stats ('APPLSYS');  --fnd_stat is for EBS system you can replace with the database equivalent command.
use this statement to count the block before and after the operation to see the different.
    select DISTINCT(SEGMENT_NAME), count(blocks) "Total Block" from dba_extents
    where
    owner IN ('APPLSYS')
    AND segment_name = 'WF_ITEM_ATTRIBUTE_VALUES'
    Hope this help.

  • Somewhat old iPhone 5, gonna upgrade to ios 7. asking about iWork and iLife.

i was watcing the event last night where tim cook revealed the iphone 5s and 5c and he was saying that iWork suite apps and iLife suite apps are gonna become free. this morning i check the apple website and was looking at the specs of the iPhone 5s and when i scrolled all the way to the bottom it said something about devices activated after sept. 1, 2013 will have iWork and iLife available to them...
does that mean that i have to get a new iphone and activate it.... im really confused about this....

Good for you. But, that's NOT what the footnote says. The footnote states Apple devices activated after 9/1 that can run IOS 7.0...nothing about when purchased. Since all iOS devices that can run iOS 7.0 will require "activation" after being updated, I think the footnote needs clarification from Apple, and apparently, I'm not the only one that feels so. This is the second post I've seen regarding this.
Like I said, we'll find out when iOS 7.0 is released, unless Apple gives clarification before hand.

    They're the same.

Yes, especially if you save the document in Word format.
You can also save it in PDF and a simple text file (but the layout could be modified if you open it in Office).

  • Need advice about Labview and NI certifications

Hi all I am a student. In the process of learning the LABVIEW. I've been working on it for about 3 to 4 months. From internet, examples, tutorials on NI site and now on forum also. Just thought why don't I should ask you people where to start and any books you think will help. My intentions are toward CLAD and then CLD. Any advice. Thanks in Advance.
If I am posting it on wrong board please tell me where to post.

As far as books are concerned my three favorites are:
    LabVIEW for Everyone
    The LabVIEW Sytle Book
A Software Engineering Approach to LabVIEW
I have taken both the CLAD and the CLD exam.  A person who has a good understanding of the LabVIEW fundamentals will be able to pass the CLAD exam.  To see if you have a good understanding of the fundamentals you should do as Smercurio suggests and take the example tests.  To pass the CLD exam you have to have a good understanding of LabVIEW Style, and be able to implement it while writing a program that would normally take 8 hours in 4 hours.  With the CLD if you take the available practice exams and pass them (you will have to grade them yourself, which is a good way to brush up on style) then you are probably ready to take the exam.  It does not mean that you will pass it though.  It seems to me that the time limit is the killer with the CLD.

  • Can you have installed and run both iWorks and Office 11 on OS X Lion?

I have iworks installed and was wandering whether it would be possible to install and use Office 11 also?

Yes. There's no problem at all with having and using both. I use Office for work related stuff for compatibility with complex office documents and iWork for all my own personal stuff.

  • I coded my very first app and wanted some opinions and advices about it and about my website

So, my first application is written in cocoa applescript. All it does is calculate the result of some formulas such as areas. I built a website to share this and more apps that will be released by me. Here's the link: http://pirapps.netii.net . For my next application I wanted to build a simple equation solver (I'm doing all this to make things easier at school) but I have no ideas on how to do it. I'm planning to do it on AppleScript or Objective-c. (Terminal-Don't want to mess with the interface right now) Could you guys give me some advices related to the logic in the program?

I suppose the easiest way for your example would be to just get the part of the string to the right of the equal sign, but depending on exactly what you are doing expression parsing can get involved.
Website design is pretty much an art form, and I'm not really an artist (my website leans a bit more to the 'industrial' side, for example).  There may be some pros here that could give a better opinion.

  • Advice about snippets and glossary entries

Many parameter names defined in my project glossary happen to be reused in API and user documentation, which seems like the perfect opportunity to use the snippet feature.
Just wondering if anyone can provide advice, warnings, and/or shortcuts for propagating snippets with glossary entries:
    1. will naming conventions help/hamper the migration (can I use the same names in glossary/snippets--and can these be the same names as my params w/out confusion; ie, sourceBaseUri...is a param in the UI documentation and is a gloss term--can I also use it as a snippt name, or will that cause maintenance confusion?)
    2. are there any shortcuts for migrating info "in bulk" to snippets from glossary? (or is click-and-drag from Glossary pod to Snippet pod the sole/best method).
3.is it possible to flag a snippet as a glossary item or vice versa?

I suspect that you might want to create your glossary in a free-standing topic instead of through the default glossary (in which the content resides in the MyProject.glo file). We use this method, with two styles created as shown in this sample code:
    <p class="GlossaryEntry">30/360 (BMA)</p>
<p class="GlossaryDescription">The number of accrued days is calculated...</p>
You could certainly create snippets for each Entry/Description pair, and insert them in this glossary topic as well as in any other topic you choose. Would that work for you?
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Need advice about passwords and the cloud

I had/have Power Book, won a mini and wanted to share limited things between the two. Stopped by an apple store while on vacation and a nice helper at the apple store set up apple email for me on the mini...BUT I think I have 2 separate passwords now and I don't know how to get the 2 items to share info. I don't have apple mail on the laptop and thats fine I just wanted a NEW email on the mini that I could use to send photos but didn't want teh 10K of emails off my laptop to drop into my mini so I was fine with the new email BUT want my calendars to show up on each device and photos....

You can't have 2 different passwords for the same account, so it may well be that you now have 2 accounts, please confirm this at:

  • Bit of Advice about FTTC cabinets

    Hi all,
In my village we have all had FTTC cabinets installed, which is great however every cabinet has been powerd on and is accepting orders apart from the one that serves my property, it is cabinet no 19 and my post code is SG8 5JX.
I checked the BT wholesale checker and still tells me can only get up to 1.5 meg.
Anyone have any idea why it taking so long to switch on one cabinet or any more information on when it be turned on
    Thanks
    Paul D

most likely reason is that all testing openreach do before the cab goes live has not yet been completed just a matter of waiting the wholesale checker will advise you of the date your cab should go live all you can do is keep checking

  • Need advice about builds and reuse

I'm almost done with my first authoring on DVDSP 3.0.2 - this is a DVD that will be sent to replication. I willl likely make some minor changes to my project. Is it 100% safe to use the 'reuse' command when doing my final build after these changes? Or is it better to do a fresh build from scratch?
    Thanx in advance
    Bob

    Thanks for the quick reply!
One more noobie Q - My replicator said he can take an image file from me. So I will use DVDSP to create it. I've never created an image file. Is it straightforward? Are there any options to be aware of?
As far as QC'ing the project - can I check the image file itself? or do I just check a DVD formatted from the build (before I create the image file).

Depends. See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps. You may need to upgrade the software depending upon what you are currently using. We would have no way of knowing what that would be.
