A book style slideshow with fairy tale effects?

Can anyone shed some light or just give me your input on doing a slide show for a couple who is getting married? The desire is to have the slideshow unfold as a fairy tale. A book with pages turning, each page is to include story(wording) and photo, I'll use a transition for turning page and adding fairy dust....Thank you in advance. MilliMac

Obviously I can't know exactly what is in your mind.
Are you thinking about a cover page with a title?
You could search some fairy tale books for a suitable picture to scan into your computer.
Over this you could make the title in a flowery font similar to Apple Chancery.
If the rest of the pages are composed of photos you could give them a border with a bit of a pattern. You could scan in the pattern from a book. Some programs like Photoshop Elements etc. have patterned backgrounds - don't forget LiveType.
These backgrounds could be put on track V1 with the photos above on V2. You could double click the phototrack and open Motion. Then scale them down to about 60 - 70% so that they sit in the centre of the screen with the pattern showing as a border around the outside.
Use the Page Peel etc. for each picture.
You will have to experiment until you find something that seems OK to you - even if it's not exactly what you had in mind originally.

Leaking G5 with fairy tale ending...

No wonder Apple consistently scores high on all consumer surveys for customer service!
June 2004 Dual 2.5 G5 tower almost one full year out of Applecare warranty. Fans on full bore, shutting down occasionally. I took it to my local Apple specialist for diagnosis. As I was carrying it in the door we noticed liquid leaking out the back end. Technician confirmed it was coolant. Two days later got a price estimate of between $800-$1000 for repair IF the logic board was okay. The technician suggested I call Apple to see if they would help me out with the repair. No harm in trying but the machine is four years old and a year out of Applecare warranty after all.
Called Applecare. No rants, no nastiness, no screaming. I simply told my story and asked if Apple could help me out. I was transferred twice and wound up telling my story to what may have been a third tier technical support rep. He told me to ask my technician to open a repair case. Then he gave his personal extension number and told me to have the technician call him. A few days later I got a call from my Apple specialist informing me that Apple had agreed to repair the G5 at NO COST. The cooling system (with processors) and the power supply were replaced. The logic board was okay. All is well. I was flabbergasted to say the least. Since the G5 was getting close to replacement anyway we wound up buying a new 24" iMac too. The newly repaired G5 will get a new life as either a file server or an upstairs client in my wife's sewing room.
Why did Apple agree to fix a four year old machine a year out of warranty? Was it because I've been a loyal customer since 1982 and have purchased eight machines over the years (they had the records)? Was it because there's a secret warranty extension plan in place? Was it because they just wanted to make me happy? Who knows and who cares. Way back in 1982, when I purchased an Apple II+, I knew I was going for a ride with a different kind of company and it's been a wild and crazy ride for 26 years now. In all those years I've had exactly three repair cases, a disk drive controller card on a 5.25" DuoDisk floppy drive, a power supply on a Power Mac 8100 (first generation PPC machine), and now the G5.
So for those who fret and worry about what they read in these forums I'm here to tell you that, as a 26 year veteran, you have nothing to fret over. This is a special company when it comes to customer service and care. It builds amazingly reliable hardware and then stands behind it.

Slideshow with keywords

I'm trying to create a slideshow (with ken burns effect) and add my custom keywords on the bottom of each picture. Is this feasible? I can add "Text" to the slideshow, but the "keywords" option is not available.

As another work-around, that I sometimes use, set the free BorderFX plug-in (BorderFX - BorderFX) to create an annotated version of the image. You can write the keywords directly onto the image or onto a custom border of the image. This is highly customizable. Just add a textbox and set it to show the IPTC field "Keywords".
Then use the annotated versions of your image in the slideshow.
For example: The keywords written onto the border below the image.

Firefox is hanging when the page scrolls down to a html5 video or the page to a slideshow with fade effect

I have Fedora 14 and before that Fedora 13 and the problem happens with both.

I forgot to say that I did tryed the Safe Mode just to see if the slow was not being caused by some extension or plugin. However the result was all the same. By the way, the slow happens even if there is only one page opened. I am not thinking it is something related to the ATI video card or even Fedora because the same slow does't happen in Chrome and Opera...

I am talking about iPhoto. In my old Mac even in Books choosing slideshow gives a pop up where you can select a music from I tunes library. In this new one I can stop the slideshow with cursor and it shows music option but it is, as I said dead. Does not response at all to commands.

Need tech-book style book to learn Netbeans 6.5 with Javafx

I am having a heck of a time geting started with Netbeans 6.5 JavaFx. Everytime I download code into my IDE I get all types of errors that I can't overcome. I have recently completed a text book course in Java by Lewis and Loftus. The book starts with the basics and work up. Most of the tutorials that I find on JavaFX start with huge amounts of code which is very confusing to people trying to learn this terminology. Can anybody direct me to a tech-book style book on Netbeans 6.5 with JavaFX or is it too early for such a book.

Any tutorial about JavaFX dated prior to December 8 2008 should be disregarded utterly by a beginner.
There are significant differences and trying to figure them out from old tutorials is futile!

Can it even be set to do this?
The only code in the style.xml that looks like it might be realted is line 12 <playOptions playMode="pause"/>, changing that to "play" does nothing.

Problems with Ken Burns effect

Having a very frustrating time trying to get a decent slideshow. Like the KB effect but when I play it back the images jerk and jump. Smoothness totally
gone. Strange thing is sometimes it is worse than others. Have tried closing all
other unnecessary programs to save RAM , etc...does not help. Sometimes it
looks ok played in iphoto but when I send to idvd the jerking is back. HELP.
When going through process have about 250MB free and 10 GB on disk.
Also when I export a slideshow (size-large 720X480)to Quicktime image
quality degrades considerably. All I want is a decent dvd copy of my honeymoon
pictures but can't seem to accomplish this. Am very disappointed at all the
grief involved in this...any help would be greatly appreciated.

It seems that a fair number of users have run into this same problem over recent months: namely, producing a slideshow with audio from iPhoto with the Ken Burns effect creates a "jerky" movie as a result. The advice I have seen is to either clean up your hard drive or get more memory. I consistently run into this problem even though I have a 1Ghz G4 iMac with 768MB main memory. I have tried this on my root drive with about 7GB available and on a firewire drive I have with ~30GB available space. I have also tried using Cache Out X to clean up caches and other various files, and still iPhoto produces jerky results.
The one workaround that has worked was to turn off audio. That seems to fix the problem, but I do want audio in these slideshows to put onto DVD. Others have suggested using iMovie to add the audio track, but reading in the output of iPhoto into iMovie seriously degrades the quality of the video -- not to mention that it is a very slow and tedious process to do this.
I would like to point out that this was not always the case. Unfortunately I cannot pinpoint the exact time when this started happening, but I could swear that I had been able to create slideshows in this manner before one of the many iPhoto upgrades I automatically received over the last year. I now have version 5.0.4.
Have you heard of anyone successfully fixing or working around this problem? I love my Mac...and this is one of the fundamental reasons I switched from Windows a few years ago was for the great photo tools. But now, without the ability to make DVDs the way I want, I am considering switching back .

Spry Image Slideshow with Filmstrip doesn't work in IE, but works in Safari and Firefox

The Spry slideshow with filmstrip wiget works fine in Firefox and Safari. However, it does not work in Internet Explorer. The slideshow looks like it is loading (the little circle spins), then it disappears and the slideshow is replaced with an empty space and a little white box with the red x (that normally signifies a missing picture of picture that can't load for some reason). Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I was hoping that the widget would work in Safari, Firefox, and IE. Does anyone know of another option for adding a slideshow that works in all three browsers?

Here are the first lines in my template. The Spry Menu script src and link statements are the only two lines that have to be moved (on your template or any page for that matter) above the Spry Slideshow src and link statements. Just leave the Slideshow code in the same position that Dreamweaver inserts it.   When you create a new document from your template, Dreamweaver leaves it alone. Just set it and forget it.   I've wrestled with all sorts of other solutions listed on this forum and this is the fix that continues to work for me! It seems to me that the only reason this solution works is that javascript is a procedural language and some code in the Spry Slideshow javascript has some conflict (maybe a name/symbol problem) with the Spry Slideshow javascript. If someone else knows the absolute reason for this ordering problem, please feel free to come back and teach me!! Always ready to learn something new!!

Is it possible to publish an iPhoto slideshow with the music?

Is it possible to publish a slideshow with music so others can hear the music as well as see the photos? Thanks. (I have a MobileMe account).

An alternative method to put the slideshow up for others to view is to import the QT movie back into iPhoto and put it in a MobileMe gallery and publish.
If the movie is large still another alternative is to import the movie into iMovie and share it from there to a MMe account where you can select multiple sizes so those with slower internet connections can choose a smaller version to play. The following screenshot is the export window from iMovie:

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

MAKE A iPHOTO ALBUM ON A CD WITH KEN BURNS EFFECT AND MUSIC

I'd like to know how to save an album using the Ken Burns effect (pictures automatically panned or zoomed) and the music I've saved to the album from the samples given in Iphoto. When I try to open a CD with an album on it on a Windows pc, I get only the pictures and neither the Ken Burns effect nor the music, so all I can run is a simple slideshow, which looks anemic when compared with the full effect available on the Mac. Any ideas?

Export the Slideshow as a Quicktime Movie (File -> Export) and burn that to the CD.

ok, i'm new to mac & video editing. i want to make a slideshow with pictures & @ the end of it, i want to put in a clip from a home video. if i put the home video on a DVD, will i be able to edit it? i know i have to edit the video in imovie but where do i go from there? can i import it into iphoto & make the slideshow there? if so, how do i save the imovie project as the right file type so i can import it into iphoto? if i can't make it in iphoto, what program do i use? i want the slideshow to be able to be viewed on a PC also.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As already mentioned you'll need to use a 3rd party slideshow application or iMovie.
However, you can create a slideshow in iDVD with stills and a video clip as iDVD 7 (08) now permits both stills and movie clips to be placed in a slideshow. This screenshot shows multiple video clips in an iDVD slideshow but you can also have stills and video clips.

How do you batch edit still photos with panning/zooming effect in FCP X?

I was making a slideshow with a lot of photos. I had to manually add two keyframes in each photo (one in the beginning and one at the end), and then manually adjusted the scale/position for each photo so they pan/zoom during the slideshow.
Is it possible to accomplish the samething with multiple photos in a batch? It would sure save a lot of time. Thanks.

Build the effect that you want on one photo.
Right click that photo on the Timeline and choose Copy.
Select the other photos that you want to have the same effect.
Right click one of them and choose Paste Attributes.
In the Attributes dialog, place a check mark next to those you want. In the case of the effect described in your post, that would be Motion Attributes. If you had also included Filter effects such as color correction, you would check those too.

This would be a bit tricky as you have to use a fullscreen widget , accordion and tooltip or any other composition inside accordion or you can use different pages to render similar effect.
So for example
- Insert fullscreen widget
- Insert Accordion with page width ( Use same image which is used for fullscreen )
- Insert a tooltip where the trigger would be half size of target container and setup the action on mouse click ( you have adjust the trigger and target in layers panel )
Sorry but that would be the workaround , I know a bit lengthy one.
Or you can create separate pages where you can use fullscreen widget for different pages using same images.
Additionally you can try to use slideshows in Muse exchange library :

Slideshow with high quality

I have a Photography Studio and I am trying to create client slideshows that display in very high quality. If I view the slideshow as created on iPhoto, the output is fantastic. If I burn a disc with iDVD (even on "Best Quality") the images as viewed from the DVD are not great. They become a little jaggy and some color shifting is evident. Not horrible, just not professional looking. My files are high quality .psd files. I have tried the process with high quality .jpg files, too.
Is the answer a PRO level DVD compression product? Voodoo????
I am at my wits end, but it was a short trip to get there.

Hi,
I understand you want to create a DVD, right? Before you know how to get the best quality, you must choose what software to use . You can build slideshows using just DVD Studio Pro (DVDSP Folrum) and/or in a video timeline with FinalCutPro (FCP Forum).
Each soft need a different approach ! You'll find a lot of posts with useful information in that forums and you can post your own when you decide what tool use for your project.
If you want to build simple slideshows with just a transition or no transition at all, where the people can choose next prev and so picture, you can use DVDSP.
If you want a more sofisticated presentation where you can control completly adnvanced trasitions and zoom/pan effects, you need to create it in a video application like FCP.
You posted this question in Compressor forum, what is a tool for transcoding your video footage to, i.e. MPEG2 files to include in DVDSP.
About quality, think that Standard Definition DVDs have a resolution of 720x480 pixels (NTSC) what probably is absolutly low resolution compared with your original pictures, but doesn't mean your pictures will look bad. Any comercial movie DVD you watch has that resolution ! The advantage is that every DVD player (computer and stan alone ones) will be able to play it.
When you mention the iPhoto slideshow, I think you mean a slideshow you played directly from your computer what is a completly different approach that DVD.
I just want to give a start point.
