A bookmark folder with thousands of bookmarks I've saved over many years has disappeared and I can't find it in the bookmarks menu or recycle bin

I've also tried doing a restore by choosing the "Show all bookmarks" "Import and backup" "Restore" to a day earlier and the folder still didn't show up. When I tried to do this again using one of the many earlier dates I had seen that were available the first time, now only today's date is available. I've done searches and no folder by the name of the missing folder appears to be on my computer. I'm sure I didn't delete it and nobody else has access to my computer. I've used Firefox for many years and I've never seen this problem. I've checked in all the other bookmark folders and it's not in any of them. If I can't resore or find this folder, years of work and thousands of bookmarks will be lost. Any help or suggestions anybody might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Immediately backup your whole Firefox profile.

You will have over written your bookmarks database and it may be difficult to recover. You may at least have backups of bookmarks that are still usable but that is why you must back up the profile.
Create a new additional test profile using the profile manager. Next test the bookmarks from your backup restoring them into Firefox whilst open with and using the new test profile. If one of those backups works you should be able to restore that into your ordinary Firefox profile.
You may need to delete the database places.sqlite to get working bookmarks. But rename it rather than delete it as it is then easier to reverse. Note if you do need to delete the places database you will lose your Firefox History.
There is an alternative strategy but again ensue the profile is backedup. And in this case also backup separately places.sqlite before any recovery attempt.
The Windows OS should try to keep previous copies of Files and it is possible that you will have a usable previous copy of ''places.sqlite'' that may be recovered by options available from right clicking the current version.

I'm hoping someone out there can help me. To put it in short, I have been typing my notes for an exam that I need to pass for my medical license for the last couple of months. Yesterday I went to save the newest document to the folder (which I had saved on the Desktop of my Mac) and it wasn't there anymore. I'm not sure if any other files are missing because that was the main one that I was using at the time. I went into Microsoft Word and File > Recent and they are all listed there but when I click to open them it says that it can not find the file and if I would like to search for it myself. I do have an external hard drive but I guess I did not back up my stuff since I started working on these notes (yeah yeah I know dumb mistake). Can anyone help? My bookmark button disappeared and I can't find where it went.

I recently had to reset Firefox due to some malware and when I started it back up my bookmarks toolbar button was missing and I can't find where it went. I'll upload a screenshot showing what I mean. On the left is how it looks currently and on the right is what it used to look like.

Are you using the default theme?
*Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Hi youssef8888, you might also want to search your entire C drive to see whether your bookmark backup files might be in an unexpected location. I would try this pattern:
bookmarks-2013*.*

My vertical column of bookmarks down the left side of my screen has disappeared and I need to find a way to get it back in the same place.

This is purely a lay-out issue. We used to be able to choose to permanently display our bookmarks vertically down the left side of the screen, and I want to continue to be able to do so. My bookmarks are not lost; I know they are in my library. But the system doesn't seems to allow me to leave them on permanently down the left side. Please help. Do you mean that the bookmarks sidebar (View > Sidebar > Bookmarks) gets disabled?

My husband clicked something on the yellow Firefox tab at the top left corner, now it has disappeared and I can't get it back...any suggestions?? my top layout has changed because of this and my bookmark page isn't displayed either.

For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

OK, it now sort of works. A couple of problems here:
After updating IOS, Safari iCloud was "automatically" switched off
Switching it on had no effect
resetting my iPad automatically switched off safari iCloud again
after switching it back on, it said "turning off safari data"
switched it off and on again, now it said : "turning on safari data" and the sync worked
On IOS 7 no problems
The bookmarks not being displayed was because after pressing the book icon, it defaulted to showing the history and I had to press "Back" to get to the other options

James Ward4 Thanks for your suggestion. I have tried the video app and it appears to have some, but not all of the downloads which are viewable without wifi, so I will now review the download process and see if I can capture the missing episodes. Thanks again.

I want to use Firefox on my Win 8 desktop. i want to move my favorites, settings and add-ons to a new Win8 laptop from my old Win 7 machine. I know how to do it with Win 7 machines by moving my profile. I can't find appdata on the Win 8 PC to move the profile to.
I will also want to do the same with Thunderbird.

The easiest way is to use Sync.
You can find it in Tools / Options.
You'll always have settins, bookmarks, saved passwords, history synced between you computers (and Android devices).

It cannot be lost it came with the phone. look on another screen or in a folder. IF you cannot find it then go to settings/general/reset/reset home screen layout
