press and hold top power button and home button in front for 6-8 seconds until you see an apple, for it to reset.
and make sure your initiating an icloud backup or it will come up again.
1. be connected to wi fi
2. be plugged in to power source
3. turn screen off
go to settings>icloud>storage and backup>backup now.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

To stop the message:
Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Backup Now
iCloud Backup will run automatically on a daily basis if:
- it is plugged into a power source
- it is connected to Wi-Fi
- the screen is locked

You need to make sure that you are connected to a WiFi network and have a good amount of battery power left, if not plug in a charger to be on the safe side. Once done go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Backup Now
This is basically your iPad giving you a gentle reminder to back it up.

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Not backing up should not restrict you from using the iPad (if it did, there would be a lot of people in trouble)
Try restarting the iPad, holding both the home and power button down until you see the Apple Logo and then try to log in.

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.

I too have been having this issue since about 12/14. That is around the same time I got the Ipad for my kids. I am unsure if it is related. I have tried logging out of icloud/deleting it and trying again. Removing most of the apps to sync. I reset my router. All of the attempts have produced zero results.
