A brand new calendar

I'm a teacher and I would like to make a new calendar for each of my classes.  I want to do it in iCal so that I can do it all online and then print it off.  I have found a way to make different colors on the same calendar for different categories.  But I want a new calendar for every class.

Hi there famo_sa,
You may find the information in the article below helpful.
Mac Basics: Calendar keeps your appointments
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5978
Create new calendars
By default, OS X includes two calendars in the Calendar app – Work and Home. If  you want to create a new calendar, choose New Calendar from the File menu. Type a name for your calendar in the text field. For example, if you have kids, you might want to create a separate calendar for each one to track their schedules. You can see and control how your calendars appear by clicking the Calendars button.
To change the color or name of a calendar, select it from the calendars list, then choose Edit > Get Info. To remove a calendar and all of its events, right-click or Control-click the calendar's name,  then select Delete from the shortcut menu that appears.

  • Transfer iPhone contacts & calendars to brand new outlook 2007

Someone gave me an iPhone 3GS as a gift, I pressed the reset button and used outlook 2007 & itunes to sync my contacts & calendars.
Everything on my iPhone is fine.
My contacts & calendars in Outlook 2007 were accidentally in wrong orders by importing a backup file in pst format(Outlook Format).
For future synchronization ,I am afraid that my iPhone contacts & calendars will be in wrong orders due to the changes in Outlook 2007.
Can I transfer my iPhone contacts & calendars to a brand new outlook 2007 (without any data & resetting my outlook 2007)?
    If not,any other solutions?
The main reason of this discussion is to make my Outlook contacts & calendars in correct orders and my iPhone contacts & calendars will not be affected.
Hopefully I have a backup .pst file with correct data on my harddisk.
    Hope you guys can help.
    Thank you so much!

The Synchronization dons’ not affect the order of how information’s are displayed between outlook and iPhone IOS. It only affects the content of your contacts and calendars information’s.
However, if you want to synchronize to a brand new outlook (this mean new Mail profile), you should create a new mail profile to use with outlook. Always make a backup of your iPhone and outlook before you modify any settings.
To create a new profile, go to Mail setting in the Control Panel or Execute control mlcfg32.cpl from C:\Programs Files\Microsoft Office\OfficeXX from the Command Prompt to access Mail directly.
From here you can display the main profile which iTunes using to synchronize your information’s (Show Profiles… Button). This one called generally outlook, it is created automatically as you execute your outlook for the first time.
Then you have to create a new one using ADD button, as you finish choose Always use this profile then drop down the menu to select the new created profile.  Apply the new setting and restart your outlook.
Now you suppose to have the new profile of outlook, this let you synchronize your information with nonfactual content.
You can go back to the old profile by choosing it as the default one from Mail setting. Be careful not to synchronize with iTunes when the default profile is set to the old one.
Remark: in the Mail setting “mlcfg32.cpl “ if you choose the following option (Prompt for a profile to be used) then every time when you open outlook it will prompt you to select the profile that you need to work within, the problem that when iTunes want to synchronize your content it can’t select arbitrary on of theses profiles and this will dysfunction, so it is preferred that you select (Always use this profile) option.

A reboot should be enough to make it work.
    Just restart your computer.
Otherwise, make sure you're an administrator - as if you're not, it could be that the administrator put a restiction.

  • My brand new iPod Touch 4th Generation, just isn't functioning correctly.

Recently, I bought a brand new iPod 4th gen. Since, it has gone haywire and refuses to function correctly. It is 16 gb and operating on iOS 6.0.1. On many apps, especially games, it can get really laggy at times, for no discernable reason. I have very few apps installed, and a great internet connection, so I can't understand why that would occur. Also, Safari is absolutely useless. When opened, under any circumstances, It goes to a default white screen:
Then it can do NOTHING else. Upon further inspection, this seems to happen to a couple default apps. Such as:
    -Calendar
    -Maps
    -Mail
After about 20 seconds of blankness, it then force-closes to the home screen. In addition, Game Center has become a pain in the butt; it just won't leave me alone. Anytime I try to open a game with internet capabilities (ie.Vector,The Sandbox, etc.), it pops up wanting me to sign in, yet it wont work. When I try to sign in, it never works the first time. I have to home-screen, then click the app again to open it up to the same page, before it even shows the keyboard, not to mention, at this screen, the keyboard is horizontal (landscape) while the rest of the screen is vertical (portrait). From this point, signing in does nothing, it will bring up the buffering circle and spin for about 10 minutes, before promptly force closing. I can't get out of that screen either, when it comes up asking for my log in, the cancel button becomes absolutely worthless, it does nothing. I've disabled Game Center's notification and changed it's capabilities, but it STILL comes up when I try to eneter a game. The only way around it is to completely TURN OFF my Wi-Fi. Thus rendering a lot of in-game content worthless. Lastly, sometimes the Game Center opens Safari, but since it doesn't do anything, I have no idea what to do. Home-screening does not work, as less than a second later, Safari opens again, and again, and again. The only way to stop this annoying cycle, is to completely SHUT-OFF my iPod.The iPod is only a little over a week old, and it ****** me off that I already want to put it down the disposal.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

  • The head phone jack on my brand new iPod touch 5th generation is not working properly

The head phone jack on my brand new iPod touch 5th generation is not working properly. It has sound without the headphones in but when I plug them in it has no sound, it's low, or poppy. I had only used my apple supplied headphones once before and it worked fine. I know it's not the headphones because I tried them on my girlfriends phone and they worked fine.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Hey, migration from an old mac late 2008 aluminium to a brand new mac book air. Only the new one has firewire. Transmissiom via wifi estimates ~50h. Is there a faster Way to sync? Tanks in advance

I'll venture that your problem here is that you're using two very different versions of Mac OS X.  The USB adapter has been useful to me when making big downloads or while using other networks, but it might not be your case.
Here's what I would advise, though it may be less than stellar:  Copy the files you need into folders and move them through a USB flash drive or using that external hard drive of yours. (Could the format be the reason your MBA can't see it?). Some stuff like calendars and contacts can be exported too. At least in Lion, I haven't used Tiger in a while.
    Good luck.

my daughter has a brand new ipod touch - latest one - she started to input a passcode then didn't finish the process then turned off ipod. she turned it back on and it is asking for a passcode - she doesn't remember what she typed. Ipod is now disabled for one hour. Can we override the disable. How do we reset passcode when we don't klnow the original. It has never been synced to Itunes. I am completely lost.

    iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore, then restore as New.

  • Brand New Ipod Touch-Can't Get Music under "music"

This is my very first Apple product EVER!
Got a brand new Ipod touch generation 4.  Downloaded two albums on Itunes, then synced it with my Ipod touch.
When I go to use my Ipod, I got to the "music" icon, but i have NO music.
I go to the "more" option and 9 out of 10 times, I'm only given THREE options there "Compliations, Composers, Genre".  Only once or twice in the last 72 hours, have I had an additional option of "shared".  When i do have the "shared" option, I can see the music that I've downloaded.  I click on it as if to play it, and it sort of seems like it's playing it, but I hear NOTHING.

  • My brand new iPod touch 1.1.4 doesn't have Mail, notes or google maps

I just unwrapped the plastics from the box and plugged the iPod to my computer to activate it when I see a screen on iTunes saying there are new updates for my iPod. Strange, this is supposed to be the latest version. iTunes promts me to accept a charge of 155 sek (26 $) to get it. I then check my iPod to see what version it actually is and it says 1.1.4 (4A102).
The only applications on my brand new iPod is:
Safari, Calendar, Contacts, YouTube, Clock, Calculator and settings.
Is this how it's supposed to be? I thought the new apps were supposed to be shipped with 1.1.4 Isn't it?

Hi Kojoman. Welcome to  Discussions!
Actually firmware 1.1.4 and the January Software Upgrade are two different things. The first is a free update. However, the January Upgrade has to be charged. It was probably discounted on the final price of the iPod Touch. You probable bought an iPod from the older stock, so if you buy an iPod with the new apps included it would be more or less 20 euros more expensive.
You'll have to buy the Upgrade via iTunes Store (if you want). It will add some apps to your iPod, just like Mail, Weather, Stocks... Here's a [link|http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=2718726 04&s=143441]

  • Hi, I have a brand new imac which i got today and when I open Iphoto all i get is the error message "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable" any ideas? thanks

Hi, I have a brand new imac which i got today and when I open Iphoto all i get is the error message "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable" any ideas? thanks

Are there photos in the Library? If not then just trash it and launch iphoto. It will make a new one.
If there are pics in it then Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Cannot create new Calendar Group in Mountain Lion

I am using a brand new iMac. I didn't use the migration tool-- instead I exported all of my Calendars from Snow Leopard and Imported them via the File menu in the Calendar application in Mountain Lion.
Under the File menu, there is no "New Calendar Group" option. Command-Shift-N results in an error alert sound and no action.
I do not use iCloud for anything other than email-- everything is turned off in System Preferences.
In Calendar, under the Preferences -> Accounts section, I have NO accounts. It is completely blank.
My previous groups from my export/import are there under the "On My Mac" section of the Calendars panel. I can edit them. But I cannot create any new ones.
Any suggestions? Everything on the internet says I need to deactivate my iCloud account calendars... but I don't use them.

Ah, Barney, you are a lifesaver!
Sorry for the late reply, I was away from my computer this weekend.
All of my calendars had been in groups. I moved one of them outside, and TA DA-- "New Calendar Group" appeared.
Thanks so much for the help. I will have to leave 1 calendar outside of a group so I can add as many as I'd like.

  • Two problems with brand new Mac

Just got a new, pricey MacBook Pro, about a month ago. Anyways, I'm having two strange problems.
Firstly, my MacBook Pro keeps turning off randomly (which is pretty annoying when I'm trying to take notes on it in the middle of a university lecture)... weirder yet is when I start to close it and it's just slightly open it will turn back on but when I open it up fully again it turns off. This issue presented itself to me about 5 days ago and was messed up like that for a whole hour lecture. Then, it seemed to work fine but today while I was on it the issue persisted suddenly again. Now it's working fine, so I'm a little confused as to why it does this.
Secondly, yesterday I downloaded some slides from the profs site but it won't let me open them. I tried downloading other notes, from other profs and now none of them seem to open - just last week they would all open. Along with this my Mac is having trouble opening one of my screenshots of my course calendar.
I'm not a computer guy so maybe I'm just doing something wrong in either cases, I don't know.
Thank you in advance for any advice

Doesn't seem like you're doing anything wrong. Seems like a hardware problem. Since this is brand new I'd take it back to the Apple Store or where you bought it and tell them your problems. If they can't reproduce the problem it might be necessary for them to run Apple Diagnostics:
    Using Apple Diagnostics
You might want to do that anyway and see if you can get an error code to come up. It's always easier to walk into the store armed with a fault code.
Since this is still under warrantee it would be fixed for free.

  • Other taking up space with a brand new iPhone

other taking up space with a brand new iPhone, never used or plugged in. 1st time conecting and it says 564.8mb other. WTH??

I'm sorry, I don't understand your comment. Any computer program has at least 2 divisions. A Code division and a Data division. When we talk about the size of a program or operating system we mean the size of the Code division. The Data division will be of variable size, and can change dynamically. So the size of iOS when you download it is the size of the code. Other includes the data division of iOS, plus the data divisions of all apps that come bundled with iOS, plus the Safari cache, plus all email messages, plus all texts, plus all contacts, plus all calender events, plus all notes, plus all reminders, plus the music catalog, plus album art, plus data used by the iTunes & App stores, plus data used by the Genius feature, pus data used by Game Center, plus data used by Apple Maps (but not Google maps if you have it), plus a few things I've probably forgotten about.
Immediately after a new phone is activated, or after it is restored as new, Other still contains the data divisions of iOS. And if you have logged in to the iTunes and App stores during setup it contains the information from your account for those apps. And if you have logged in to iCloud it contains all of your iCloud contacts, calendar events, notes, reminders and email.
I've explained this several different ways. I'm not going to try again.
