A broken Sli switch card and my story...
Hello evey1, first post here, that's my story:
got my new PC in august, firstly i was really happy...then some probs occured like lockups in games , etc, all solved at a point....when i decided to use the sli feature and add another MSI 6600GT...my mobo is MSI K8N SLI PLATINUM....so i turned the sli switch card 180 degrees put it into position but what happened? the little hook keeping the turnable liitle card just got out of his position, thus, installing the second 6600GT but after a while it hoped out of its position like something that was holding it in position had broken something...so i gave up{ games werent that good after all} sold the second VGA and gave it for service at a shop.There the guy confirmed that something had broken, and sticked the hook into position with , i could say a mod...the prob is that from that time i formated XP for various reasons {SP1=>SP2} and here I am......
Now this is my problem: at random occasions{and i mean really random, like once or twice a week} when I open the pc cpu usage is above 50%, but I think this doesnt happens in safe mode...task manager didn't help so I downloaded procexp{a task manager replacement} which found the root of the prob........hardware interrupts....that's it....so now what? is my warranty viotaled bceause of the mod? can i fix it? and generraly, IF i buy a new mobo will the prob be solved or its not the mobo's prob? memtest gave me no errros and it hit 400%..... VGA temp never exceeds 55 degrees celsius but i must say some lines appear when i open the pc.....I think though its because of the monitor{a really old CRT 17''}....anyway ive tried every drivers i could find{creative/nforce4/forceware}

well scan your system for nasty software.... use spyblaster,spybot,ewido security suite,avast antivirus proffesional...
for cleaning loading of sh..ts and unnecesery thinks to prevent PC lag use thase program will clean unuseful services automaticly.

SLI Switch card and ATI X800XL in X8 mode?!?
Hi. I've got an MSI K8N-SLI platinum, and a Club 3D Radeon X800XL card. The system runs fine, but something seens to be wrong!
When i unpacked the motherboard, i took a look at the SLI switch card, and removed it from the motherboard, and put it on again quickly. But seems like it won't fit right into it's slot, becase i can't cloase the latch again, and i can see about 70% of the gold finders on the size that's plugged in.
In the manual and on all other fotos, the gold fingers are hidden in the slot, and there seems to be a plenty of space between the other side of the switch card and the 2nd PCIe slot. On my motherboard, it looks like this:

When i first powered up the system, i was unable to boot, getting a DRAM init-error, but it didn't help changing the DIMMs. I tried to work a little with the SLI switch card again, and it booted! But something is wrong:

As you can see on the 1st picture, the card is inserted with the Non-SLI side into the slot, so it should be X16!!!
What is wrong? Are there any secret ways of making the SLI switch card fit into the slot or what? It's kinda driving me nuts, to see the X8 message in POST every time i boot my system!!!

I also didn't know that the card could go much further in with some force. My latch is so loose now after having to force the latch to turn because I didn't have the SLI card in all the way. Hopefully MSI can give me a replacement latch. I have to agree, MSI should've thought of a better design.
I left the latch /clip off my board because it kept popping out. I managed to get SLI mode working with the selector card still sitting at an angle. As long as you push the card far enough into the slot it seems to work. I dont even have to have it sitting parallel with the mobo. Maybe Im just lucky. -
SLI Switch Card Seating Technique
I have read several posts on the issue of getting the stupid SLI switch card to seat properly on the Neo4 Platinum SLI motherboards, but I have been unable to do that on my system. Maybe I just didn't get the technique. I pushed my card into the slot at the "natural" angle it was willing to be pushed in (about 30 degrees from the horizontal) until it went no further. There wasn't really any "click". Then, I had to push the face of the card downwards in order to make it horizontal with the mobo, and rotated the flimsy clip to keep it in place.
My system works, but the clip sometimes lets go, and the card moves back into the 30-degree position. After reading the posts, I tried two things -- 1. Push the card as far back into the slot as possible, and 2. After the card is inside the slot and would go no further, push its face as hard as possible to make it horizontal. I never heard any "click", and my system continues to be flimsy :(
Am I missing something? I would be grateful if anybody could provide an accurate description of the technique.

AngshumanThat is exactly what I did before creating this thread. I mentioned in my first post that I had read several posts related to the issue, but was unable to apply the techniques mentioned therein to solve my problem. This led me to believe that my understanding of the solution may not have been entirely correct, and hence this thread. In case my question was not clear from the previous post, please allow me to rephrase my queries:
1. It seems the switch card needs to be pushed in at a certain angle. The slot for the card already seems to have a "natural" angle, about 30 degrees from the horizontal (assuming the motherboard itself is horizontal), and the card seems to slide in comfortably at this angle. However, I did not hear or feel any "click". Does the card need to be pushed in at a steeper/flatter angle than the natural angle of the slot?
2. Does a lot of force need to be applied in order to accomplish Step 1 above successfully (i.e., to get the "click")?
3. After completing Step 1 from above, does the face of the card need to be pushed in in order to make it horizontal (i.e., parallel to the motherboard) and in order to enable the flimsy lever to swing into place? Is this when the "click" is supposed to occur?
4. Does a lot of force need to be applied in order to accomplish Step 3 above successfully (i.e., to get the "click")?

The easiest way to test your boards without programming, is to use the Soft Front Panels. The SFP is installed with the driver. You have one for Switches and one for the Digitizer. You can find them in MAX (Tools>>Soft Front Panels) or under Start>>National Instruments>>NI-DMM or NI-Switch

Hello,
I recently had problems seeing no signal on my screen. After checking psu,gpu which all work fine on another pc i noticed that the little plastic thing coming from the motherboard that was holding the small sli switch board was broken and now it doesnt sit horizontially as it should and im thinking this is what is causing me the problems. I dont have a second video card so i dont need sli enabled. Do you have any suggestions on how i can secure that thing into place?Use a bit of glue or try with a ty-rap to hold it down somehow.

The SLI swich card on the MSI K8N SLI Platinum is very poor, it’s the 2nd time ive had issues with it. Last year the board would not operate in SLI, I returned it to my local outlet and got a replacment; I then had no further problems.
Ive just bought a x1900xt but when I switched the card back to the NON-SLI position, low and behold my machine will not boot. The only way I can get this to work is if I leave it in the SLI position @ x 8 PCI, has anyone had a simler issues or have any ideas how to fix the board.
As I understand it running at only x8 PCI bandwidth should not affect performance, I benchmarked the card the last night and everything seemed normal, could someone please confirm this…

Did either of you try various drivers using the correct install and uninstall procedures?
IE DL driver cleaner.
Remove the old nvid drivers.
Reboot safe mode
Run something like cc cleaner to clean out the old nvid driver registry.
Delete the old nvid driver folders.
Reboot safe
Install new drivers
Reboot into windows propper.
set up monitor(s)
Set up nvid control panel and graphics card.
Set it for a perticular game or program.
For me the original 81.98 drivers on my 7800 gt's were total crap completely unstable.
I moved up to 82.12 drivers, which were vastly more stable.
Also know while your game may not show an increase in FPS because of source code issues, you can run the game with more options at top speed. -
I want to switch stores from Japan to USA. I used to have an iTunes card, and there's 15 YEN left in my account, how can I get rid of that so I can start purchasing in the US store using my new credit card?
I can't seem to find an app that costs my available balance. iTunes said I need to spend it ALL before I can change stores. This means I cannot totally change stores.... Hopeless.

You do a restore as new to wipe the iPhone then at the end of restore you will be asked to restore from backup. Choose your iPhone backup.
Note you cannot restore an IOS newer than the IOS on iPhone, you need to update iPhone first. -

Rajagopal.pngr :- It is only a holding charge, it is not a permanent charge. If it isn't refunded within a few days or so (and it quite possibly won't be over a weekend) then you can query the charge with Apple. -
Can I switch back and forth the same sim card between an old iPhone 4 and a new one never used in order to activate the latter? Should I use same Apple Account? Should I activate it via WiFi or iTunes? I am filtering on the MAC no and I cannot read that number from the new iPhone without having it activated??!!
All I want do is to have the new phone activated and then tested!

Not a single account, no, at least not easily. It would be better to set up individual iTunes Store accounts, one in each country. Your computer and devices can quite happily deal with two accounts, and then you can just log into the appropriate account when you're in the applicable country. You'll need a second email address to able to create a new Apple ID.

PowerPC applications are unsupported in newer versions. You can upgrade Photoshop or you can install Snow Leopard in a partition.
1. Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) and select your drive
2. Go to Partitions tab, press + button, create a new partition and press Apply
3. Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD and reboot pressing C key
4. Install it in the new partition
5. If you want to change boot, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select 10.7
