A bug is stuck, and dead, in the screen of my MacBook Pro.

A bug crawled up under the screen of my MacBook Pro and has died there. Is there any way I can get it out? Or should I just keep looking around it?A

Take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

    Hi John,
    I would take your machine into a Apple service center. Its highly likely a hardware issue. The most likely issue being the display has failed. If there is no external damage to the machines display they will replace the whole display under warranty for you.

    When I turn on a video the screen on my MacBook Pro freezes.  I've been through Apple Care and they couldn't fix the computer.  I think the fan and the graphics are the problems.  I can restart after two attempts.  Sometimes I use SAFEBOOT

    Please advise the model MBP you have and the OSX you have installed.
    Also try a SMC reset:

  • I have a very tiny, fuzzy black speck on the screen of my Macbook Pro 15".

    I have a very tiny, fuzzy black speck on the screen of my Macbook Pro 15". It doesn't resemble dead pixels I've encountered in the past (it is only visible behind a white or brightly colored background), and I'm positive it isn't sitting on the surface. The computer is only a year and a half old and my software is up to date.

    Hi austinbread,
    It is hard to tell exactly what your issue with the MacBook Pro’s display is, but it is possible that there is a pixel anomaly. See this article for further information -

    if it is running OS X Yosemite
    Step 1
    Connect your iPhone directly to your Mac using your Lightning to USB cable.
    Step 2
    Open QuickTime Player and choose File > New Movie Recording
    Step 3
    Select your iPhone as the Camera using the dropdown menu to the right of the record button
    Now your phone should be mirrored onto your Mac.
    You do not need to use the Apple TV

  • Hi, a week ago the option of update came on the screen of my macbook pro, it then offered to restart and will not boot up. The fan is running but no screen. Please help as I have tried everything.

    Hi, a week ago my macbook pro wanted to do an update, so I clicked yes, it went on to do the normal and then offered to restart, since then I have not be able to restart. I have tried almost everything. When I turn on the power button, all you can hear are the fans and nothing else. Its not very old, does anyone know what I can do as I dont seem to be able to get any support from apple.

    By everything, I am assuming you have tried resetting the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964) and PRAM (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379). If you haven't tried this yet, please do!
    See the following support document as well: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1367.
    The update you're talking about was the firmware update. Hopefully resetting the PRAM gets you up and running. Try resetting it 3 times in a row (hold the keys down until you hear 3 startup chimes).

  • Today I found a gaping hole and bend on the sueprdrive of my MacBook Pro.

    I open up my macbook pro neoprene sleeve today to reveal a bulge on the superdrive corner. There was no disc in the drive for weeks. The aluminum is actually bending outwards. There is a huge gap on the side where the aluminum meets with the grey plastic bezel.The lid is not flush with the system when closed now it has a gap and is uneven with the undamaged side. I can see the side inside of the laptop slightly:complicated plastic groves and such. I cant fathom how this could happen. I have no camera for pictures. I am still in warranty what are my options? The optical drive accepts and ejects discs but its difficult and seems like it will fail at anytime now because of the pressure of the drive casing. I read that this could be from daily wrist pressure. Also I sometimes hold the laptop and walk around with it holding that corner, that probably contributed to this. I have researched and found this to be the most venerable part of the macbook pro. If apple will not repair this, how much does this affect resale value? This is a multitouch 2.5GHZ macbook pro ( like the last non unibody they made) Now I see the purpose of the unibody. They moved the optical drive to the side and made the chasis much stronger. This is my only computer, which I need daily for online college so needless to say im pretty upset about this. This laptop has been so well taken care of its not even funny. No scratches except one near the bottom battery area. Never dropped also put in a sleeve then a briefcase. Note the below are close examples to what my issue is (but not my pics).
    Lid gap looks like this:
    http://www.notquiteleet.com/mbp4.JPG
    The bezel gap looks like this but mine is only 1/4 as long and not as open (i closed the gap as much as I could it looks a lot better now then it did original but its a temp fix and still bad imo):

    Yes I have apple care for a few more months. If apple fixes this I will totally renew the warranty as well. Never thought something like this could happen. I wont be able to go to the apple store for another 3 days (traveling).

  • The screen of my macbook pro remains black and blank. I need help

    My computer screens fails to come on at start up. It just stays black and blank. I have tried a couple of reboot sessions but all to no avail. Can anyone out there help me please.

    The only people that can help you are those at an Apple store.
    Your Mac is broken and needs to be repaired. That is IF you get absolutely nothing on the screen after pressing the powwr button.

  • Adobe Updater not working and/or removing the Icon from a MacBook Pro?

    I purchased CS5 -Design standard for my MacBook Pro a few years ago and have never had a problem until recently. I put a new hard drive into my laptop and reinstalled everything. CS5 programs run fine when I'm using them. Now all of a sudden, I'm getting an icon on my top MAC menu bar from Adobe Updater saying I need to update all of my programs. It will not go away. I follow all the steps, it completes the download then says there are errors and the downloads cannot be completed, to close and try again. I've done this 5 times over 2 weeks with no luck. If there are updates I'd really like to install them or just shut the updater down so that I can't see the icon on my menu bar.
    It does not give me an option to enter serial numbers from the CS5 I purchased or to just close the thing and move on with my life. What do I do? All this is running on a MacBook Pro, CS5-Design standard.
    Icon on Menu Bar
    I open it to see Adobe Updater wants me to update a bunch of programs
    I hit the update button- downloading starts and completes to 100%
    Now all of the updates are errors downloading- with no options but to close and try again.

    update manually:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

  • I have Dust inside of the screen of my macbook pro, it has accumulated now and is a big hindrance. Is there any way to clean it

    Its a Mac book Pro (Late 2012). Dust is in the display, and its annoying how its in the center of the screen

    Hi. the glass in front of the display on the 2012 macbook pro is held on by magnets. If can be removed, but it's tricky.At the store they use a suction cup. The Imac is the same way and I have remove the glass on them. I did it by inserting a thin but sturdy piece of plastic starting at the upper corner and working around the top edge. You have to be very careful or you can crack it. It would be safer to take it in to apple store. I know if too much dust get on the screen between the glass and the lcd it will kind of burn into it.

  • HT1338 The screen on my MacBook Pro keeps going black.  This is happening more frequently.  I have had it in to the Apple store multiple times and they can't find a problem.

    My MacBook Pro screen keeps going black.  This is happening more frequently.  I have had it in to the Apple store several times for this and they can't find anything wrong other than it is locked up for a while.  Since it is happening more and more, I am worried that at some point this will be permanent.

    Has it actually happened at the store?
    If not then we need to get it to do that. Now it may be completely random but you need to try and make a note of as many things as possible that happen when it does it.
    How long has it been on for, what are you doing at the time, what's connected. If it's reproducible then you've at least got somewhere.

    LambChops1,
    I’m using Mavericks, and it’s still possible to select text to drag and for cutting and pasting. Left-clicking and right-clicking is still possible, too.
    Try opening the Trackpad pane of System Preferences, and select the Point & Click tab. To right-click, ensure that your “Secondary click” checkbox has been checked; the small print under “Secondary click” is a dropdown menu which allows you to select the form of right-clicking that you prefer. (For instance, mine is set to “Click in bottom right corner”.) For left-clicking, is your “Tap to click” checkbox checked, or unchecked? (Mine is unchecked, since I prefer pushing for left-clicking over tapping to do so.)

  • Can't use the two finger span to enlarge the images on the screen on my macbook pro

    the macbook preo allows you to enlarge what is on the screen by spreading two fingers away from each other on the touch pad. The new ,ozilla firfox does not allow this to happen! When I could use it and enlarge type or a page to see better.

    Some gestures have been removed in Firefox 4.
    You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    browser.gesture.pinch.in -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReduce</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.out -> <b>cmd_fullZoomEnlarge</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> <b>false</b>
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
