Daughter received Nano 2gig, I received Ipod Video 30gig.
I all ready had Apple Id from ordering her Nano. Established Apple Id for daughter & registered her Nano. Of course, daughter has no method of payment and I established that through our Pay Pal. I am registering my Ipod now.
Question when she logs in with her Apple ID my name shows up?? I have to imagine this is because I provided info for payment if she goes download crazy.
Other ???? Seperate a/c on our Family laptop I have to imagine there shouldn't be a sync issue with the two of us right? Sorry if I did repeat a question but I have read so much stuff today and still have no idea what I am doing. Hoping 18 year old family members can help me out but not at this hour.

Thanks! I just wanted to be sure. I am assuming that because I all ready had an Apple ID due to purchasing her Nano that my method of payment was stored correct? This is why I was not asked for that stuff. I set her up with my PayPal account. How do I verify my method? I will keep my fingers and her toes crossed as I begin downloading tonight for the first time.
Oh, why when I connected my 30gig did I not get the set-up assistant as I did when I connected the Nano? I think everything is okay with mine. So much to learn and so little sleep I have had as she is barking to download as we speak. lol

Hi, I want to buy my boyfriend an ipod nano for his birthday and set it up for him with all my music. I have a mac and he has a pc. How do i ensure that when i plug the nano for the first time it doesn't wipe all my songs? also can i set it up for him on my computer and register him? can he then use the nano on his computer without losing the music that i put on the ipod for him?

You cannot legally give him your music. He needs to have copies himself that he's legally purchased. So while your thought is nice, you really should just give him the iPod new in the box. If you want to give him music, gift it to him through the iTunes Store. He can then download it for himself and sync it to the iPod.

Thank you both for your responses but my daughter was reassured by the salesman in the iStyle store (official Apple store in the UAE) that iMessages would work but conceded that FaceTime wouldn't. My iTunes account is registered in the uk and my daughter's iPhone has iMessages even though she bought it (and uses it) in Dubai. Can anyone else throw any light on this?

well if you establish a new apple id for your wife that would be best unless you email all of the existing photos to your email and then when you have established a new id then you log into your email on the new id and save all of your pics onto it by pressing on tthe pic for about 5-8 seconds then options will come up and you press the save to my album ..as for the music if you can copy and paste, through computer, the songs then awesome!

With the Nanos, you should have no problem lending them loaded with audiobooks from Librivox, etc.
As for the iPod Touches, I'm not sure the question is whether you should allow patrons to set up the device for personal accounts, but whether you can prevent them from doing so. Prepare to to a factory restore every time one is returned.

After each step, toggle FaceTime and iMessage off and then on in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Ensure that your iPhone is set to the correct time zone. Tap Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: If Set Automatically is on but the incorrect time zone is displayed, turn Set Automatically off and then choose the correct time zone, date, and time. Then turn Set Automatically on again.
Ensure that FaceTime has not been restricted: Settings > General > Restrictions > FaceTime.
Verify that you can send SMS messages. You need a valid SMS messaging plan to activate FaceTime.
Contact your carrier to verify that there are no restrictions or blocks on text messages. Blocks on text messaging will prevent iMessage and FaceTime registration.
If you are unable to activate iMessage or FaceTime on a device after remote wiping it, wait at least 24 hours and try again.
If "Waiting for Activation" is displayed, leave FaceTime and iMessage enabled for 24 hours. Toggling FaceTime or iMessage off and on will cause the registration process to start over.

New nano for mother's day, no success with set up,have read ALL the tips

I am ready to toss this red apple...I have done everything suggested for about 4 hours total now...the device is not seen by ituns or windows explorer. I have re-set, re-booted, tried for newer drivers (none found) and even bought a song, to no avail. The device shows as a USB mass storage device. I've tried all 4 USB ports. I've set each fo them for the suggested "power" setting. NOTHING is working and I'm frazzled...

Yes, thanks. I literally read every posting and tried everything listed. My ipod shows as a USB Mass Storage device. Turns out I have Windows XP Professional (thought it was Win 2000) but still can't find any solution to get the ipod to show in explorer or itunes. Per diagnostics, it is "working properly" but it will not show up in the brand newest version of iTunes--I only started the entire first ipod experience yesterday. So no previous versions, devices, etc. My laptop is encrypted for work...can anyone help?

iTunes can support multiple iDevices, so you can just connect the nano to your PC, run iTunes, and select the content you want to add to it. If you configure iTunes to sync using playlists, you can set up different playlists for your iPhone and iPod so that you have complete control over their content.

How to change the apple id for daughter's icloud

We bought our daughter an iphone last year. When we set the phone up for her we used my apple id for her icloud. Now she has her own apple id and would like to have her own icloud. When we go into the icloud settings on her phone it will not allow us to change her apple id. It looks like we can delete the account. If we do this will it delete my icloud account and information? Will this delete all her photos on her phone? Is there another way we can change the icloud apple id on her phone without deleting the account?

It won't affect your info on your devices. It will remove her photo stream photos but not her camera roll photos, yes you need to delete the account.

Setting up separate accts for kids - how to associate acct with their device?

I've seen many discussions on this topic, but I am still confused. I want to have more structure around how much my kids spend on iTunes - mostly games and apps. I also want them to have more autonomy using their iPod touches. So, I created 2 iTunes accounts for them and set up an allowance for each. I want all three accounts and devices (my iTouch and their two iTouches) to sync to one Library on our one iMac. I've gone into my daughter's device and "connected" it to her new iTunes account - but what is it supposed to look like when I log into the iTunes account? If I log into her iTunes account on the computer - should I see her device associated with that account? Right now I don't. Should I remove it from the list of associated devices on MY account? Can we all still share the music in our ONE library? I don't know what to do next...thanks.

- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

Setting up iCloud Drive for a family is a nightmare! I have spent the last two hours trying to figure out a smart way to make it work! First off, even though the name is similar, iCloud Drive seems to be a very different thing than Google Drive or Dropbox. There is no "sharing" option. This is what is so frustrating at the moment.
My family has used one main Apple ID for years. I recently upgraded the iCloud space so my daughter could sync her iPhone to the cloud. So, I updated to Yosemite and iCloud Drive and REALLY LIKED many aspects of the new system. However, in order to make many of the new features work, like having the text messages come to the computer, and having the phone calls (which are linked to Facetime) come to the computer I am faced with all kinds of dilemmas. My wife and I have two Macbooks. In order for her to get her phone calls forwarded to her Macbook she needs to have her phone number AND e-mail address that's associated with the specific iCloud Account that her computer is logged into. We have mainly been logging in to the same Apple ID. In order for her to access her own phone vs. mine she will have to log her computer in to a different Apple ID - but that will also mean a new iCloud Drive.
I think these new features in Yosemite are great - but they are geared towards individual people. There have been many articles written about how to deal with Apple IDs within a family. There need to be some updated articles on how to deal with iCloud Drive and a family. To me it's just way, way too complicated. It seems like it doesn't "just work" anymore.

It will depend on how much data has to be moved to iCloud Drive. 30 minutes is a long time, but not unbelievable.
