A case of phishing on an iPhone

This makes me feel a bit dumb, but I'm sure if I were on one of my laptops it would never happened. So the story goes: I checked my inbox on the iPhone and saw a message from PayPal saying that an unconfirmed transaction needed to be disputed: Since I had one credit card cloned and subsequently cancelled three months ago and my PP account heavily hacked last year, I thought it was a legit message. There I was clicking on the link on my iP, entering my PP access data and entering in a page where my personal data had to be confirmed. Thinking I had done the right thing, I closed Safari and never thought of that again. One hour later I was back home on my PB, I checked Mail and read the same message from PP, and I got the "Warning: Suspected Phishing Site" screen courtesy of Safari Mac version. Now, if I only had that warning on the iP, nothing would have happened and I wouldn't have to cancel another credit card and close my PP account. My question is why Safari iP version doesn't have such warnings like the Mac version in case of phishing sites?

If you have access to another email account - an email address that you don't use often and you haven't used the email address for any online purchases, for website access, and you haven't provided the email address publicly for any reason, switch your email address associated with your PP account with this email address.
Or create a new Gmail account to be used for this purpose only - creating an email address for your Gmail account that includes random numbers with the address - something that will make coming up with this email address via a dictionary attack difficult. Don't use this email address to exchange email with anyone or provide the email address for anything else besides your PP account.

  • Will i need a case or screen protector for iphone 5

will i need a case or screen protector for iphone 5? heard the glass is tougher, but still concerned about scratches.

I think you probably should ask if others ever felt they needed them. I can tell you from my experience that applying a screen protector never worked out for me and I always took them off shortly after applying (bubbles / dust enclosed). But then a former colleague had his applied in an Apple Store and that looked perfect. Fortunately I never had a scratch in a screen as I always took good care (and my iPhones always had a pocket in my trowsers to themselves and didn't need to share it with keys or other scratchy objects ...).
The case is a completely different story: I think every phone I had so far managed at least once to slide out of my pockets (don't laugh!) while being on a loo and hit the floor from low hight. Due to the covers I had, the phone looked as new as before, just the cases had a slight scratch if at all. Therefore a case would be highly recommended esp as it can safe you iPhone if you drop it from higher hight.
Reading the first hands-on reviews it appears that the new iPhone 5 is built with materials that are less prone to scratch or crack but my first purchase next Friday will be a case. Not sure if bumper or full case but a case nevertheless.

  • Is the iphone 4s case the same as the iphone 4?

Is the iphone 4s case the same as the iphone 4?

I had to use a scissors to pry off and then cut the Seidio SURFACE™case from my new 4S iPhone.  It was impossible to remove otherwise.  Do not buy this case for the new 4S.  I think it is too tight - the clip that connects the upper and lower parts of the case cannot be disengaged.
Seidio did agree to take back the cut case;  I am now trying to get them to pay for return shipping.
Note all the complaints ONLINE about this case and the problems removing it from the iPhone 4S.  I should have checked it out before my purchase.

  • Use of external battery cases, does it harm the iphone's internal battery?

Can the use of external battery cases harm the life of the internal battery in the iphone 4? (ie. Mophie juice pack air)

Absolutely not, but if looking for a protective case i would not recommend the mophie but if just using your phone for commercial use, then yes definitely use, it's helpful when you need a cordless charger

  • ***FYI- AT&T IPHONE OTTERBOX CASES WONT FIT NEW VERIZON IPHONES- CLICK HERE WHY

So like me, many verizon users in the US are excited to get their hands on a new iphone, i purchased a black and pink defender case from otterbox so ill have it when i get my iphone...well i started to do some research and found out that APPLE wanted to fix the pre-existing problem they experienced at AT&T of the antenna band on the bottom left hand corner and its ablity, when covered up by your hand, to lose service and drop calls. so Apple redesigned just the side as for the verizon iphone, the antenna is now at the top...pushing the volume buttons down more.....THIS CREATED THE PROBLEM OF THE OTTERBOX CASES NOT FITTING. I SPOKE WITH OTTERBOX CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THE RELEASE OF THE NEW VERIZON CASE FOR THE IPHONE AND THEY SAID THEY WERE WORKING ON THE DESIGN AND THAT IT SHOULD BE FOR SALE IN THE UPCOMING MONTHS......DISSAPPOINTING...I KNOW! you would think, with their cases so high in demand, that they would have already released the cases before the iphone release...they would have made more money that way but hey...what do i know..lol
but i wanted to share this information so that people wouldnt spend their money on a case that wont fit and can wait til the RIGHT cases are up for grabs!!

  • Is a case really necessary on an iPhone?

Should I put a case on my iPhone 4? I've used a lifeproof and otterbox defender and computer and I didn't really like any of them..any suggestions?

Unless you purchase a lifeproof case like the Otterbox, phones in most cases can get damaged by dropping.

  • I purchased a Mota Battery case and protection for my iPhone 4s,  will I encounter any problems with this new device?

I currently have an iPhone 4s with an otterbox cover which provides excellent protection for my iPhone.  I am an electrician and the environment my phone can be exposed to at times can be hostile at times.  Do you know of and Otterbox which would accommodate your product purchased by me with Package ID 6629239.  I still have product in box and am curious as to what type of protection I can receive for my phone.  Any suggestions.  Have you teamed up with otttebox to make a cover which would be compatible to the current cover being sold by them?
    Thank you,
    Tom Quesada
This is the email I sent them concerning the case, my question applies  to you all as well.  Another question I had was concerning the battery and any interference it may have with any apps or actions taken by using my iPhone.  Any suggestions or past experiences would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Tom Quesda

    Hopefully you contacted Otterbox directly.
Take a look at Mophie devices as well, they provide some nice battery cases for iPhones (and other devices) and have a line that provides similar protection to Ottterboxes.

  • Making a case to a Genius for iPhone 4S battery replacement

Due to poor battery performance, I recently asked a Genius to declare my 4S a lemon and replace either the battery or the whole unit. I'd jumped through all of the remediation hoops, hard reset/rebuild, etc, and it looked like a legit lemon to me. The Genius assessment was that my battery performance was within the acceptable range and thus my request was politely denied. I'd like to understand what constitutes a replacement-worthy battery condition and whether there is a standard that is applied consistently across all Geniuses in all stores.
In the past, I've had my 3GS replaced by the Genius Bar for poor battery performance and the assessment seemed very subjective. This time with the 4S, the Genius used an iPad to download logs from my phone, notably the battery usage statistics for the two weeks prior. These are the Usage and Standby values that you can see in the Settings > General > Usage screen. They average two weeks worth of these values for their assessment.
In my case, the average Standby value was 18 hours. The Genius said that this was within the normal range and that 10-11 or worse would warrant concern. I don't recall if the average usage value came into the discussion.
I have two issues with the assessment:
    1) It didn't take into account "booster charges". Standby measures duration from 100% charge to the time you read the setting. In the case of the Genius assessment, it seemed to measure the duration between 100% charge and the lowest charge level before a full recharge started. Lets call this a "battery day".  The problem is that if you plug in during the middle of a battery day, you extend that day and skew the meaning of Standby duration. The iPhone notes this by showing the message "The iPhone has been plugged in since the last full charge". The problem is that the Genius doesn't take this into account. But simply, my average Standby of 18 hours was only that high because I was extending the battery day with brief booster charges.
    2) Even without regard to the above, 18 hours is vastly less than the advertised 200 hours and significantly less than my informal poll of Standby values of 4S owners.
So my question is: Is there an objective Apple standard on what average Standby and Usage need to show to warrant replacement?
    Thanks.

You may already be aware, but just in case, note the following quote from https://www.apple.com/support/products/iphone.html indicates that the battery must be at 50% or more from original specs before they will replace it under AppleCare+.
Service coverage is available only for the iPhone and its original included accessories that are defective in materials or workmanship or for battery depletion of 50 percent or more from original specification.
Another option you may consider would be to pay $89 Cdn to have the battery replaced: Apple - Support - Service Answer Center

  • Why is my clear case scratching my new black iphone 5?

I bought a clear case from amazon, it seems to have scratched the paint off my new black iphone 5 near the lock button. I bought the case to protect the phone, not scratch it! I was careful with the phone so dirt couldn't get trapped I there so I don't understand why it has scratched? Maybe a soft case would be better?

    Return it immediatly.

  • Are magnetic cases safe to use with iPhone?

Are magnetic cases safe to use with the iPhone? I've seen a few 3G cases that have magnetic flaps that look awesome, but I've heard arguments both for and against using them.

I received my SENA magnet-flipper case (croc-black) on Friday, Aug 22 and have had absolutely no issues... also need to mention I was concerned with my 3G over heating keeping it in a case now and again, no issues there... in fact, after removing it from the SENA after two days of being on, my 3G was cool at touch.
I did experience a GPS search issue the day after putting it in the SENA, and three days after updating to r2.0.2 and originally thought the "magnets" interfered with my signal reception as some reported.. but when I took my 3G out of the case and experienced the same search and location issues (not to mention APPLE validating GPS map issues on 2.0.2 today), I am convinced the "magnet's" on the SENA case do not create problems. The magnets on the SENA case are quite small; powerful, as in you can't shake the case and the flap fall's away... and they are inconspicuous to the eye.

  • Is there an intrinsically safe (is) case for the iPad/ or iPhone?

I am researching the possibility of using an iPad or iPhone to replace my outdated pda's in my company. However I work in a hazardous environment (petroleum vapors) and must have a device that is explosion proof. Any ideas on whether there is a case out there that offers this sort of protection?

    hi,
i would recomend brands such as otterbox defender, their rubber skin very sticky and would not move on leaning board (35 degree ish)

  • I am looking for a combo case for my iPad and iPhone   Any suggestions? Thanks

Can anyone suggest where I can find a sleek case to Carey both my iPad and iPhone?

STM makes a variety of durable, reliable bags for all types of computers and tablets:
    http://www.ebags.com/search/stm-bags-ipad-bags?lastterm=stm+bags+ipad+bags
I've had an STM bag for my MacBook bag for 4 years. My wife purchased an STM 'Jacket' for her iPad from eBags.com: http://www.ebags.com/product/stm-bags/jacket-ipad/153382?productid=10026526
An iPhone fits in the angled pocket on the 'front' side.  Possible downside to the 'Jacket' is that there is almost no room inside for the iPad charger cube.

  • Case w/ belt clip for iphone 4

I like the case like the Otterbox but need a belt clip. Anyone know of any like that?

Does anybody know of a leather flip case with a belt clip? The Otterbox is nice, but it still leaves the screen facing everyone when it's on the belt; I'd rather cover it, if only for privacy reasons.
I'm using Proporta's Aluminium Lined Leather case with my 3G, but their iPhone 4 version (http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?tid=5140&tmode=des) omits the clip for some bizarre reason.
At this rate I might see if simply putting a bumper on my phone will let it fit the existing case, though I'll have to cut a bit out of the back if I want to use the flash, of course
