A chip in the screen

Ok, so today I dropped my iPhone on my desk and a little of the plastic part on the iPhone 4S that surrounds the screen, chipped off.
My 1 year warranty ends January 5.
What is my chance that apple will replace my iphone?
Thanks

For free? 0%. Accidental damage and abuse are not covered by the warranty.

To whom It May Concern,i have my macbook pro its a week old and after maybe 2-3 days cleaned it and noticed a little chip in the screen when the light flashed on the computer. Also my charger sometimes just dose not work ill plug it in at a different outlet then it will work its very frustrating to have this many issues i would like to see if i could get a new charger that actually works and a macbook without a tiny chip in it

You are not addressing Apple, we are Apple users, like you.
Take it to an Apple Store as soon as you can, you can return it within 14 days of purchase.

  • I have had my iphone 4 for three weeks and love it however yesterday I noticed a small chip on the screen, devastated! Took it to apple store and arranged appointment with genius, he said I have to pay £139  for a cosmetic fault, I have not dropped it!

I keep it in a leather case,  and have never let it come into contact with anything,

There's not much anyone here can offer, since none of us work for Apple and have no power to intervene in this issue. The Apple technician can only go by what he or she sees, not by what you claim since not everyone is honest about what has happened. In addition, Apple's warranty does not cover defects that are strictly cosmetic:
    This warranty does not apply: (a) [removed for brevity]; (b) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents, and broken plastic on ports;
You can try pleading your case with the manager of the store, or with Apple Customer Relations (call Apple tech support and ask to speak with a customer relations agent), but they may not be able to do anything to help you.
    Good luck, and regards.

  • Chip in iMac screen

Hi i bought a base model iMac last Sunday from a apple store and since ive had it there has ben a small mark on the screen just below the iSight camera, at first i thought it was a dead pixel but on closer inspection it seemed to be on the actual glass itself.  I thought it was just a speck of dirt so i bought some muc-off screen cleaner however after using it, it hasent come off and how i feel it may be a actual chip in the screen.  However the actual apple store is over an hour away should i call apple or could i take it to a apple reseller nearby.

Call Apple Support and have them make the arrangements, that way a replacement panel will be on hand before you lug the iMac in.

  • Chip in the edge of my iPhone 5 screen?

So I was inspecting my new (out of the box) iPhone 5 today and I noticed a VERY tiny little chip in the lower left-hand edge of the screen (SEE PICTURE BELOW). It's so tiny that I had to REALLY look to see it. While it is kind of annoying that my $200 device had any defects at all, it's really not enough to make me send it in to be replaced if it's not going to hurt anything. HOWEVER, I was wondering if this little chip could possibly turn to something more? Intensive use isn't going to cause the TINY chip to turn into a huge crack that goes across the screen; will it? If there's any chance of that happening, I don't want any part of it. Any help would be appreciated.

if you keep dropping it then it might eventually get bigger. If you have the warrenty, then i think that you should make an apppointment to go to the store and look into getting a new one for free. They are very nice and understanding about stuff like that

  • '08MBP w/Nvdia 8600, could this be the screen itself, rather than card/logic board?

Ok, so I got a new-to-me MB Pro4,1 (A1260) off eBay about two months ago.  Love it!!!  I've been a Mac user since they were just called Apples, but this is my first laptop.  It has Mountain Lion on it, but came with the original install CD, which I think was 10.6.  (I'd have to track down my super-safe place I stored it to be sure.)
Unfortunately I didn't know about the faulty graphics card issue until I started having problems with my screen not coming on when I'd wake it after a sleep. And, it would get REALLY hot, directly behind the battery, particularly when running things like SketchUp.  It would also, occasionally, throw out Asian-ish characters when dialog boxes would pop up.
A couple of times I had to do the shut-the-lid-reopen-it trick and then it'd hum along with no issues. Monday it wouldn't come on at all.  Or rather, the screen wouldn't come on.  The computer was obviously running just like always.  I even tried plugging it in to a desktop monitor and still just a black screen.  Did some research and found out about the graphics card issue.
That evening I opened it up and it came on like nothing had happened.  So I set the screen-sharing permissions.
    Tuesday, no issues.
Today it's doing the same as Monday.  However, because I turned on my screen sharing, I've been able to access it from my desktop.  Everything works fine...? (in fact, I DLed iStat onto it, via screen sharing, so I could check temps.)   Just no screen.  No shadows, no dim lights, nothing.
I just emailed my seller to see if he'd done the logic board replacement offered under Apple's extended warranty (that ran out in December) and am waiting to hear back.
What's the liklihood that this is just the screen, instead of the card/logic board? (The Asian characters make me think it might be logic board anyway... )

It's the bad graphics chip and the system will die soon.
    Good Luck and Best wishes.

  • My iphone 4s is cracked at the bottom of the screen and it's in black, if i get a replacement phone for it can i get it in white instead?

I have a black iphone 4s and it's cracked/chipped at the right corner of the screen. The damage isn't too bad, but it's still not perfect in any way. I have apple care on it and I was wondering that if I was going to get a replacement phone for it and pay 50$ can i get the white iphone 4s instead?

If you want the iPhone in a different color, you can buy one at full retail price.  The $299 price is subsidized from your carrier and you will be very unlikely to qualify for another subsidized device.

  • Is it a hardware and/or software issue when the screen suddenly shifts?

    Hey there,
Yesterday my 2.5 year old laptop had an error.
I was working in excel, when suddenly the screen shifted out of focus.
I saw everything on the screen echoed some pixels to the upperleft, and moving the mouse over a shifted area turned this area back to normal, however this also shifted the area where the mouse no longer was.
I thought I should reboot my laptop, but then it wouldn't start. I have tried rebooting in safe mode and recovery modes and saw several blue screens flash by. I have inserted the 2 recovery discs that came with the laptop, but it cannot finish installation.
What concerns me is that even if I get a recovery disc to work, the screen might still be shifted. Do you think this might be a hardware error, a cable breaking somewhere? Or is it a software error somehow? Or perhaps it was a software error leading to a hardware malfunction?
I'd like to install an operating system again, but if the screen has a hardware issue it might be more worthwhile to buy a new laptop all together.
Please advise if you have any idea on what could cause this, thanks in advance!
    Kind regards! ^_^

    Hey there,
Just wanted to let you know what I learned. I visited some computer repair shops. The screen was acting so weird, I had no idea what it was called, but now I know the screen was garbled. It was a hardware error, namely the chip of the memory of the graphics card was burned, and apparently since it is directly connected to the motherboard it would be an expensive party to have that repaired.... I ended up buying a new notebook, this time with 3 year's insurance ^_^ What was also interesting is that when we installed older operating systems on it, with very low resolutions, everything worked out fine. As soon as the newest graphic card driver was installed or we switched to a normal resolution, it was garbled again. It was definitely the memory of the graphics card.
As a suggestion, I think it would be helpful if the term 'garbled screen' or 'garbled' is a searchable phrase on this website, because it took me forever to find out what the problem was called. There is some information about screen issues, but only if the screen is black or blue screen of death. If more people experience this garbling issue, it might save some headaches :p
    Thanks again for everything!

  • Hello.I have installed windows 7 home premium on my macbook pro mostly for playing  games. But there is a problem.Whenever I launch a game, the screen just zooms in one part and I cannot see the whole screen. Therefore,I cannot play.Help please !

I tried to re-install games as well, restart my macbook but it did not work.I want to add that even before using bootcamp, the same thing happened to the screen. So, I do not think that there is a problem with windows 7.
    Thank you in advance

  • Within the last hour, I noticed that my older MacBook Pro, while I was playing it in iTunes, lost contrast on the screen.  I am sorry, but I did not take exact notes on this event.  Around the same time, I did do a back up, uploaded software, etc.

Within the last hour, I noticed that my older MacBook Pro, while I was using iTunes, lost contrast on the screen.  I am sorry, but I did not take exact notes on this event.  Around the same time, I did do a back up, uploaded Apple software, etc.
I'm using two MacPros simultaniously, the old one for iTunes, and the new one for the other things.  My new one has no problems, so am wondering if there is an easy way to correct the older MacPro's contrast problems.  The computer is over three years old, and I'm wondering also if this failure is an aging sign.  (I also have other problems, such as a noisy DVD drive, which is part of the reason I bought a new MacBook Pro.)

Is the older MBP a pre-Unibody model from early 2008? If so, it could be having this problem:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2377
If so, you would be entitled to a free repair.
The lost contrast could be considered distorted video.
Do you have an external monitor? If the external shows the same lost contrast, the graphics chip is likely the culprit. If the external is OK, then you probably have an issue with the built in display or possibly with its connections.
You may also want to check in Universal Access to see if the contrast bar is set in its normal position (all the way to the left).
Apple has a special test they can run to diagnose the NVIDIA issue, so if you have access to an Apple Store, make an appointment at the genius bar to have it run.
    Good luck!

  • Recently cracked the screen on my iPhone 4. Since my phone contract is already over, is it worth it to wait for the 5s?

My screen's been cracked (mostly an internal crack, although small parts of the screen have chipped out) for about a week now and it's starting to bug me since it makes it rather hard to use my phone. Basically, I'm having a hard time deciding whether it's worth waiting a month for a phone that will have a few improvements over the iPhone 5.
I've considered replacing the screen on my iPhone 4 (I actually ordered a replacement screen, but it was the wrong one so chances are it'll be two weeks before I get the right one, so I'd probably just replace the screen and have it as a back up phone, or just return the wrong screen for a refund).
Anyways, from what I've read it seems like the improvements from between the 5 and 5s are that the 5s will have a faster processor, better camera, and a fingerprint scanner. Considering that I don't lock my phone and I don't have a problem with the speed of my iPhone 4, the only thing I really see myself caring about is the camera.
I don't want to regret getting the iPhone 5 right before the 5s release, and likewise I don't want to regret putting up with my current phone for another month (possibly more, depending on shipping/out of stock delays) just for it not to be worth it to me. What are your opinions about the situation? I realize it's somewhat of a tricky answer, but I'd like to hear some opinions of those with better experience than me.
    Thanks!

Apple has not announced any new iPhones ,the terms of use of this forum ban speculation of Apple product plans etc..
personally I like to have the latest and best

  • My macbook keeps freezing with the left side of the screen on the right and the right side of the screen on the left. Help

My 17-inch early 2011 macbook pro keeps freezing on me.  The freeze usually occurs when I'm importing or exporting pictures, when I stream anything, or If I am watching a dvd.  The left side of the screen shifts to the right and the right side of the screen shifts to the left.  lines also appear on my screen and I can not force quit any open application.  I have not dropped my laptop at all.
    Mac OSX Lion version 10.7.5
    2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7
I would like to avoid going to the an apple store to fix this problem if possible.  The closest one to me is 40 miles away.
    Help : )

If you don't have the Applecare extended warranty then you will need to pay for the fix. The fix is a New Logic Board. It seems as your Graphics card is failing in some way. No there is no software fix for this.
The Graphic chip is soldered to the logic board and the only way to change/fix it is to replace the complete logic board.
    Good Luck and Best Wishes

  • Just bought iBook, should the screen be like this?

I just bought a brand new 12" iBook and the screen appears to be slightly 'graduated'. That is that it is slightly darker at the top then the screen gets to a slightly lighter shade at the bottom making the dock look slightly pale and soft and lighter, compaired to the top part of the screen, which is a tad darker and more contrasty with better colour punch.
Slightly anoying. I also noticed that the actual screen appears to be slightly 'warped'. Looking at it from the side, the back part of the lid is touching the base of the computer, but the front part is a few mm higher with a slight bow in the middle, the other side has this too, but not as bad?
Are these two characteristics normal or is mine a bit faulty?

Hi! I've seen some commentary about different user's iBookG4 12.1"
displays; some about color and gradient irregularities, and a few about
having a marked varigated brightness/dullness across their screens
even though the desktop background was supposedly all one shade.
Yours is new; if this issue is an immediately known one, see about
taking it back to the seller; or call AppleCare or Sales Support if you
are unable to take it into where you bought it right away. Apple may
be able to get something done for you some resellers may not.
The iBookG4 Displays Discussion may be a place to read of some
other observations and perhaps a few thoughts in settings and maybe
(as needed?) having a certified technician inspect the machine to see
if this issue warrants some component testing and/or AppleCare repair.
    See iBook Displays:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=919
[My iBookG4 12" appears to be fine, but then I don't use it all the time.
The first optional accessory purchased for mine was AppleCare; the
second was a 1024MB Samsung/Apple RAM upgrade chip. It does OK.]
For your own peace of mind and to be sure a timely repair or replacement
of the part or the machine can be done, you should contact AppleCare
directly; perhaps even Sales Support on this "first quality" or "initial
quality" issue. If you have just bought it, and less than 10 days have
gone by, they should be able to offer you some satisfactory outcome.
I'd see about getting either another iBookG4 or a fast repair.
Good luck in this; keep a cool head and be patient with those people!

  • Laptop suddenly had horizontal lines running across the screen

Suddeenly horizontal lines appreared across the screen .
I have shut down and started up the computer numerous times and it does not go away .
It also affects the graphics and text on the screen .
If I cannot fix should I have the computer cleaned and set back to factory standard and how do i do that /
    Thanks

    2 possibilities:
    1. The video chip (motherboard) has gone bad; or,
    2. Just the screen has gone bad.
Connect the computer to an external monitor and see if the lines appear on it. If so, it is #1.
It is doubtful that restoring the laptop to factory specs will have any effect on the isue either way but if you want to do that you can tap F11 as you power up to enter factory reset.

  • My Classic developes two thin horizontal lines across the top third of the screen.

After a day using my classic in the car, I plugged it into its speaked dock and niticed two thin horizontal lines all the way across the top third of the screen.
Does anyone know how to get rid of them pleaase. Thx

You can try Resetting the iPod, won't work, if LCD screen is damaged or the display chip surface mounts has gone wobbly, which mean going in for servicing.
    Otherwise.
Press Menu and Center button for 10 secs till the Apple logo comes on, then release the buttons.
