A click anywhere on the screen causes a spinning ball. iMac 27inch

We get a spinning ball when we click on anything on the screen. We rebooted. We disconnected periferals. We disabled TimeMachine. Still spinning ball. Very slow bootup of any app.

The SBBOD can be caused by many things so it's a little difficult to troubleshoot. I would recommend starting by restarting the computer in Safe Mode. This will clear some caches, it's possible one or more have become corrupted. If that doesn't do it there is an excellent article that lists trouble shooting steps, the cause for your problem is probably located in it. The article is Spinning Beach Ball of Death .
Common causes are a too full HD, failing HD, not enough RAM, a process that is taking too much %CPU etc. If you still can't find the cause after using these tools you will need to bring the machine into an Apple Store or AASP to be diagnosed.

Im trying to create a script that automatically opens up an application and then click on the buttons inside of the application (Note that the buttons that the application uses are not considered buttons by applescript's standards). What I tried so far is this:
    tell application "System Events"
      click at {724, 490}
    end tell
The faults that I can see so far is that I didn't specify whether I wanted to do a left or right click. Please help

  • Is there a way to simulate a mouse click anywhere on a screen in Dictate ?

I'm using Dictate because of hand problems. Unfortunately, it does not seem to have the ability as supplied to simulate mouse clicks anywhere on the screen as Dragon Naturally Speaking does on the Windows side.( I do not mean by this the ability to select an item in the menu, which It does have the built in ability to do.) It can, however, so I read, be scripted to do a lot of things. Is there an Applescript out there that would allow for the simulation of mouse clicks anywhere on the screen (as opposed to just on a UI item)?

Platform: 2.2 gHz iMac using Mac OS X 10.5.5; Dictate v. 1.2.1 Build
Okay, so, here, after a great deal of research, is a procedure for implementing a single mouse click anywhere on the screen. Since it’s a procedure, I’m detailing each step.
!. Download the scripting addition (sometimes known as an OSAX) xTool.sax from: http://lestang.org/osax/XTool/XTool-2.0.dmg.tgz. You will have to decompress the file (StuffIt) and double-click it to get it to unfold into a .dmg (disk image) file. In this file you will find the file Xtool.osax. Drag it into your MacHD (or whatever the name of your topmost volume is)/library/ScriptingAdditions (no spaces in the name) folder. The purpose of this is to place it into a folder where Applescript is expecting to find scripting additions. In other words, it’s hard-coded and you can’t just drop it anywhere because Applescript may not find it. Also, there may be more than one Library folder in other directories. Under 10.5.5. which I’m running, I can tell you it works where I placed it.
The effect all of this has is that when you create your script in Dictate’s New Commands window (Script Editor), Dictate will know what the commands “click mouse’ and “position of the mouse” mean. These are not standard Applsecript commands but are additions, hence the name Scripting Additions.
    2. Start Dictate and in the File drop-down select New Command. This will take you to a window with a pane on the left with names such as Applications, Global, and several others. Click on Global (so that the command will be recognized no matter what application your are in). To the right of the pane you will see a number of commands listed by name and, underneath, a (very small) “+” (and a minus sign and a small icon). Ignore everything but the “+”. Click on the “+”.
Below several boxes will appear: Command, Description, Context, Type.
In Command Name type in the name you want Dictate to recognize to do the click. (I call mine Mouse click.) In Description you can type something like Single-clciks the mouse. In the Context drop-down make sure to select Global. In the Type drop-down, select Applescript.
Paste the following into Text Edit (orTexEdit Plus,if you have that):
    click mouse {(position of the mouse), [1]}
For reasons unknown to me, you can’t just select that text, copy, and paste it into Dictate’s Script Editor winodw. You will have to select it in Text Edit and drag it into the Source text box.
Click on the Compile button at the left bottom. After it finishes compiling (a matter of seconds if everything is normal), click on the Run button with your mouse. If all has gone well, you will very likely see the Run button get pressed repeatedly. Take your mouse off the button so it stops blinking like mad. (The Mouse click Appplescript is repeatedly looking at the position it find itself and clicking again, and again.)
While your mileage may vary, I have been able to simulate single mouse-click using this workaround.
So far, I have not been able to simulate a double-click reliably. There is, I believe, an issue with the amount of time between the two clicks (a parameter of the click mouse command above which I did not go into here). For anyone out there who wants to work on that, I would be glad to hear your results. I’ve tried values up to 2000 in the DELAY parameter after the TIMES parm. Here is what the dictionary shows for this command.
    click mouse?v
click mouse [point] : where to do the mouse click
[times integer] : how many times you want to clik the mouse
[delay integer] : delay between two mouse clicks
[using primary button/secondary button/middle button] : which mouse button
If I get this to work I will let my fellow sufferers know.
Thanks to Hiroto and Andrew99 in particular for their help.

  • Paused Slide continues when I click anywhere on the slide -- why? (CP5)

Hi -- at the end of the CBT I am creating I present some challenge questions.  I am not using the Quiz feature as I do not need to capture the students answers.
I added a blank slide with an image with roll-over captions.  I added a "Continue" button so they can go to the next page after they are done reviewing the image.
Everything works fine, the slide pauses so they have time to mouse-over the image, and the continue button takes them to the next page when clicked.
The weird thing is that it also goes to the next page when I click anywhere on the screen.  This only happens on these three slides, the rest of my movie does not progress when you click on the background.
For the slide, I have it set to On Enter=Continue and On Exit=No Action, Display Time=3 seconds
For the Continue button, I have it set On Success=Go to the next slide, Attempts=1, Last Attempt=Go to the next slide, Pause After=1.1 sec
Does anyone know why when I click on the slide it goes to the next slide?  I want the slide to pause until only the Button is clicked.
    Thanks!

Your Continue button is currently set up so that if the learner does not click the button a Last Attempt action will be used.  By default this will be Continue.  So although you only wanted the user to go to the next slide if they clicked the button, by setting attempts to only 1, you've told Captivate that any click outside the button should invoke the failure action for that button, which will be to Continue to the next slide.
Try setting your button to infinite attempts.  This disables the failure action.

  • I have thumbnails in my iPhoto library but when I click on them the screen is black

I have thumbnails on my iPhoto library but when I click on them the screen is black.  I have had my computer in 2-3 times for this issue and the library is corrupt, or so I was told.  This doesn't make sense since the photos are obviously in my library some where.  Any thoughts what is going on?

Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

I've had the same problem, and sorted it using this:
Run the Boot Camp Assistant in OS X as normal and create a partition when asked, then insert your Windows 7 disc to reboot and begin the process proper.
Windows 7 requires the NTFS file system, so once in the installer just select your new partition (labelled BOOTCAMP), click on Drive options (Advanced) and choose to format it. Then select the newly formatted partition and continue.
Windows 7 will begin installing, and once it gets almost to the bottom of its checklist, it’ll try to reboot. Now, if you leave it here, you’ll get so far and see the black screen. Any further attempts to reboot will bring you to the same dead end.
Instead, restart and press a key to boot from the Windows 7 disc when prompted.
Rather than running the installation again, choose the little option at the bottom to Repair your computer. Decline any suggestions that pop up until you see a list of options with Command Prompt at the bottom. Choose that option.
At the Command Prompt, type DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ATIKMDAG.SYS to delete the default ATI driver, then close the window and reboot.
This time, Windows should successfully initialise a more appropriate display driver, allowing you into the desktop. From here insert your OS X disc to install the relevant hardware drivers as you normally would, then run Windows update to clear up any leftovers.

  • Woh to draw anywhere in the screen?

    Hi,
This might be a silly question but I haven't practically any graphics programming on Java before.. I tried to google for a solution and also searched these forums but no help yet.
I need to draw some text and images anywhere in the screen. That is, the drawing is done to an on top of another (non-Java) program. I would do this periodically few times a second so that if the other program repaints, the text&images come visible again.
So, is there a way to acchieve this in Java?
    - Maybe using some transparency settings for a frame and disabling any focus?
    - Or maybe I can somehow manipulate the screen memory "directly"? In the Robot class there is a way to get the Colro of any pixel in the screen (Robot.getPixelColor). Is there a way to do it the other way around, that is, set the color of any pixel in the screen or draw tesxt in the screen?
    Thank you very much!
    BR,

  • What is causing this spinning ball everytime I do something?

I have 13,000 still images that I am trying to get onto the timeline. I will select 50 or more and hit the "Q" key and everytime I get the spinning ball. Everything I do I get a spinning ball that can last 5 minutes or more. What is causing this spinning ball?
    Thanks

Don't know what that means. I just select a group of images, hit the "Q" key to add them to the timeline. When I select a group of images I get a spinning ball for a while then when it goes away I hit the Q key and I get another spinning ball for quite a while and once it stops, the images will go onto the timeline.
    Thanks
