A client wants a certain type of file and I am lost

I edit in XDCAM HD native (35mbps) A client requested some of my footage and since I obviously did not want to send him the raw discs I exported the footage out of FCP as self contained files. These are QT files with a FCP wrapper, right? He said he wanted QT HD data files. But once he received them, he could not open them. Here is his response...Your DVDs just came in. Thanks!… I’m guessing you’re on Mac/FCP because QT movies you gave me produce no results. Do I need to install some special codecs so Windows XP would recognize them? I’m scratching my head because I’ve never had any issues with HD QT clips. By the way I was expecting MXF type files on DVD but in either case QT should work… Any advise you can throw my way will be greatly appreciated… Can’t wait to see your work…
Some days I think that I know what I am doing, some days not so much. Any idea what I should send him?

You have two options:
1) Export the clips from FCP using File > Export > Sony XDCAM... if you are using XDCAM Transfer 2.8 then make sure that you select the export file type as MXF (not MP4). Note that you are not exporting back to XDCAM disc here, just exporting out to your Mac as MXF files. Those exported MXF's are what you client was wanting/expecting.
2) Have your client buy (US $80) and install Calibrated Software's XD Decode component for Windows .. that will allow him to open and use the quicktime wrapped XDCAM HD movie files that you've sent him

We want to be able to reject check-in of certain types of files (for example, executables, videos, exremely large documents).
I am thinking that the best way of doing this would be to develop a filter that intercepts the check-in service and fails the check-in if the file meets specified criteria.

Set Default Opening Application for a certain type of file?

I need some help saving time! I have lots of .groovy files that my apple doesn't know how to open and i have to select a default opening application for every single file! Is there a way to do this for multiple files or for a certain file type? thanks!

Sure. Click on a file, and then go to File-Get Info (or CMD-I) In the box that pops open, choose the app you want the .groovy files to open with, and click change all. That should do it.

How can i get Mac to read a certain type of file?

i will cut to the chase
i have some files from a voice recorder on a WINDOWS pc
i stick a 512 mb flash drive in the windows pc's usb slot
now i got the files on the flash drive
i stick the flash drive into the Mac Minis Usb slot
it shows the files but cannot play them
How can i convert what is in the Flash drive to a Macintosh playable file
AND should i do it while the flash drive is in the Windows or the Mac mini computer
Side note: the software for the voice recorder is windows only
the website for the PC Recorder(sony) does not have Mac Software on it
so i want (hope / need) to go voice recorder->windows pc->Flash drive->Mac and then convert the file so Mac can read/ play it.

The simplest way is to use Switch/Swift Sound (if their site is up) or acWAVE(commercial software with a 7-day trial) - in Windows to convert the DVF files to mp3 or some other Mac-friendly format.

Convert different types of files and merged them into one pdf

Hi, everyone. I'm girl from China.
There is folder containing severl files of different types, like doc, msg, jpeg etc. And I want to convert and merge them into one pdf following a certain order. I know that PDFmaker can do that nicely, but the problem is that I have like 3000+ fodlders that requires the same work.
I want to do it with VBA and Acrobat. I have a Acrobat XI Standard Version and a perfect license, by the way
And I have got the code(Thanks, Karl Heinz Kremer) of merging two pdfs into one, but how can I convert them into pdf first?

2. then do the following - lets say s is your readin string

the StringTokenizer separates that automatically for you - every call to st.nextToken() returns a string with one "value", the "\t" is not returned. Let's say you have 4 JTextFields called tf1 to tf4 and you want to fill in the 4 values from the StringTokenizer

tf3.setText(st.nextToken());
tf4.setText(st.nextToken());
how many values are readable by nextToken()-calls are returned by st.getTokenCount() and you can ask if there are more to read by st.hasMoreTokens() which return a boolean.

I installed 4.0 and cannot print anything. I uninstalled and installed 3.6 and cannot print anything. Everything has a .tif extension and wants me to save the file and I just want to print a selection from my email!

I have had nothing but grief since I upgraded to 4. It is hateful. I can't print anything. If I highlight something from a website or my email and tell the printer to just print the selection, it doesn't print. It wants me to save the the file and they all have a .tif extension and nothing will print. I have uninstalled 4 and gone back to 3.6 and the problem is still there. If I highlight the desired selection and copy it to Word 2003, it will print what I want, but I can't print anything from the browser itself. That is the only problem I'm aware of so far. I upgraded about a week ago at most, maybe less than that. I'm so sorry I did. Why can't I print anything? I don't want my selection to be a file, I just want it to print!

Thank you, but it didn't work. My printer stays on away, independently of the PC. I can print from Chrome and IE7 with no problem but not Firefox. The .tif extension refers to a tagged image something. I went looking around in the control panel and I found that Microsoft Office has it's own Access Snapshot Viewer. My company installed Office 2003 on my PC but I only use Word in my work. This snapshot viewer was listed in the control panel under Printers and Faxes. It was not the default anything but for some reason, Firefox 4 installation must have kicked it into gear. I've had the Office software for several months with not one problem. I have Firefox4 for less than a week and everything becomes difficult. I deleted the Office snapshot viewer (hope I don't get fired for it) so my little HP printer is the only one listed and now things seem to be working okay. I have FF 3.6 back up and running. I didn't lose any data and I hope the support and security updates stay available for a long time because it seems like there are plenty of people who aren't in love with FF4. Thank you so much anyway for your help.

Want to import from pictures file and wont let me

I am so so frustrated. I have so many problems using imovie.
I have a mac book pro latest update and leopard.
I don't import my pictures into aperture or iphoto because I can't find the photos after wards. They are imbedded into the program. So I always download into Bridge. I love bridge and photoshop. I don't use aperture to edit. I want more control. So I go to use imovie and it wont let me import from my pictures file. So i finally break down and import into aperture and now all the pictures are split up into a file each. WHYWHYWHY.? Why would it put a picture in each file. I have the file and then 78 subfiles with 1 picture each!!!!! That is so irritating. I tried to download from a camera archive and it didn't work either. This is why i don't use imovie hardly ever. It is just too difficult to get the pictures inthere and if i do put them in i can't find them on the hard drive.

no, it is quite easy - you make it difficult.
and a Computer/program is much faster searching and finding files than you.
I like the metaphor:
why naming the drawer, you put in files manually, instead of letting a machine find it for you? I can find a well-indexed/'tagged' pic-file much faster with iPhoto than any manual search ".. was it Sept/08 or Oct/08? Was it 'Vacations/Summers/Islands/Trees' or 'Backgrounds/Nature/Woods/' .. ? " ... tagged-fotos can re-arranged in split-seconds into new folders, new structures, new systems (aka Playlists, Albums, Events..) .. 'hardwired' folder-structures not.

This should have been trivial, but isn't. Well, it isn't that difficult either. Here's the trick:
Create a DataSocket Object. For the URL, type: file:c:\ni\lookout5\test.txt[text]
Leave the Update mode as Automatic for now. Connect a Switch to the Connect member of the DataSocket object.
On the panel, drag-and-drop the DataSocket.data.txt. Toggle the Switch and voila you have the text in Lookout! I have attached an example (detach the txt file to your C drive; or change the path in the DataSocket object).

Want to package a class file and a jar file in main jar file

hello folks,
i have a class named launch.class
and a jar file named First_Sample2.jar
First_Sample2 is an application that i have made which requires more memory than is generally allocated by the JRE. so, launch.java file just contains code to execute the command:
javaw -Xms128M -Xmx256M -jar " + path + "First_Sample2.jar"
where path variable refers to a directory which contains First_Sample2.jar
problem is that the only way i can use this code is by keeping two separate JAR files, one is launch.jar, the other is First_Sample2.jar and then execute launch.jar, which will in turn call First_Sample2.jar (which means I have to provide anyone with 2 separate files if they want to use my application)
is there any way in which i can combine both these jar files into one?

Well there is a couple ways you can achieve this, but I am telling you that packaging a JAR within a JAR will not work because classes within the internal JAR will not be recognized on the classpath.
The easiest way to get the user to run your program with a simple double click would be to hide the two JAR files from them completely, having them reside in a folder somewhere on the user's computer. I would use a batch file (Windows environment) or an .sh file (Unix) that would set up your classpath variable and then call java to execute the main class in your main JAR.
For instance:
cd [Where java.exe resides]
set CLASSPATH=[semi-colon delimited absolute file paths pointing to your two JAR files and any other JAR files that they reference]
java -cp %CLASSPATH% [main class]
The user would have access to this batch file, perhaps on their desktop, where they can double click to execute teh program just as if it were an EXE file. This is the best way because it hides the JAR files from the user.
If you would like to combine the two JAR files however, you would need to extract the contents of the secondary JAR file and then include them in with the contents of the main JAR file. That is the only other way that all classes are visible on the classpath.

If the user backs up their device to either iCloud or Mac/PC, they can restore the app data from that backup.

I install Arch i686 in home and in home I do not have internet connection , so at work I download all packages I need with this command

and move them to home and then copy them to
/var/cache/pacman/arch
and install packages with pacman
after two days , I run this command
rsync -avrt --bwlimit=58 rsync://mirror.datacenter.by/arch//extra/os/any/ /home/ddd/i686/
and I see rsync get last packages again and use many Bandwidth
how I tell rsync only download new files and keep old files

rsync manpage says the following:
-u, --update skip files that are newer on the receiver
--inplace update destination files in-place
--append append data onto shorter files
--append-verify --append w/old data in file checksum
I guess you need to add -u flag.
Reading manpages is the highest virtue in GNU/Linux.
