A Coke or a cup of coffee doesn't count.

Get up nice and early.
All of us have bad mornings, too, but it's important to have a good morning so that you can feel good about yourself. Just follow the simple steps below. Don't wake up too early, but you should wake up early enough. Waking up by an alarm is not so good. Try
waking up to a calming sound, like Bach or Beethoven, or recorded rain. Take a quick shower if needed. If you are not confident and your hair is a mess, taking a quick morning shower is a good idea. A nice hot shower will make you feel energized and ready
for the day. Turn on the radio or TV to hear some news, music and talk. Stay in tune with the world. Wear proper clothing, not house rags or pajamas--even if you're not going anywhere. Wear a nice shirt with little or no stains. Wear nice presentable slacks.
When you get dressed, you become more awake.

A Coke or a cup of coffee doesn't count.
You need to actually eat breakfast. You should have a breakfast with good proteins and vitamins. If you have enough time, pop a piece of toast in the toaster and prepare and eat two eggs or 3 egg whites with your breakfast. Brush your teeth thoroughly - not
too quickly; so take your time on oral hygiene. You have all day to get your other stuff done. Get your things together and go to school or work feeling satisfied, and ready for the a good, new day every day. Be timely. If you have to be at work by seven,
and it takes you 5 minutes to get there and 30 minutes to get ready, get up at 6:00 so you'll have time for everything you need, plus sometime to relax so you don't feel rushed. When you get up in the morning, wash your face with cold water, and take a nature
walk around the neighbourhood or park, then, you might feel refreshed.

  • OK, I fed my mac a cup of coffee yesterday on Southwest Airlines yesterday and you know the rest of the story.  What should I do ?  It's an older pro with Tiger OS and this is my first attempt at using a forum to solve problems.

Spilled a cup of coffee on my Macbook Pro.  Sure don't want to lose my stuff.  Any suggestions? It's an old Tiger OS

Turn off the machine, remove the battery.
Extract the hard drive and use a IDE/SATA to USB adapter, connect it to your new Mac setup with the same user named account and transfer your files off.

10.4 era issued machines have little value, not worth fixing, so dump it. Congrats on getting a nice long life out of it, it's rare to see that around here anymore.
I don't think Migration or Setup Assistant is going to work for such a older machine, 10.4 to 10.7 leap is rather large, I wouldn't risk it, none of the 10.4 software will work in 10.7 anyway.
So copy off files manually and do the best you can.

Is there now damage? I don't see anything on the notebook.

  • When watching an item ending in ebay/firefox, the time remaining doesn't count down.

When watching an item ending in ebay/firefox, the time remaining doesn't count down. However I'm sure it used too.

    Just an update...
I took my computer into the Apple Store and they gave me a new battery (again).  I also erased my hard drive and reinstalled Lion.  I am still having the same problem with my battery icon not counting down (when i have the power cord unplugged).  Another thing I may have not talked about is when I unplug my power adapter from my MacBook the screen used to dim slightly,  It no longer does that. Hmm.  And yes I have checked the power settings.
I am seeing a big difference in my new battery though.  The 6 month old battery I was using before my replacement wasn't lasting but maybe and hour before completely turning off my laptop.  SInce I got my replacement battery I am back to a regular battery life.  Maybe a couple issues going on here...
As a fix, I purchased Battery Guard from the app store and placed the icon on my tool bar.  It actually counts down my battery life as a percentage.  So its a huge help.  I just don't know why the native Mac icon isn't working properly??  One thing I have noticed is the 3rd party app will only count down using a Percentage.  But, like the native Mac icon it will not count down using time.  Something else to add...  After using my battery, and I plug my MacBook back in, the battery icon will count up.  Kinda strange that it will count up but not down.
Dstppy, any luck at the Apple Store?

  • [ Solved (?) ] CUPS error - service doesn't start

I've posted this here, because it is a print server problem.
I've installed cups as usual on a machine (Yes, as in the wiki).
The packages installed were: cups gsfonts ghostscript and hplip (for a HP printer ).
If I do /etc/rc.d/cupsd start ( or anything else ) to launch the cupsd service,
it tells me that cupsd has failed to start ( child exited with status 4 ).
    Nothing in the logs.
Somebody has an idea, what could this mean?

  • Powebook G4 and a Cup of Coffee!

My daughter in law - honest - it wasn't me - spilled some coffee on her computer yesterday morning. We've let it dry.
I've removed the keyboard and dried it - allthough to be honest - it wasn't tooo wet. I removed the bottom panel and checked the hard drive and the DVD player.
I could find no other moisture.
Still the computer wont start. No chime, nothing.
    Any ideas?
    Thank You
    David

Hi, David. Sorry to hear about the spill. If the Powerbook was running when the spill occurred, and especially if the user didn't immediately unplug it from AC power and remove its main battery, it's possible that something inside was shorted out and damaged.
It takes a long time — at least a couple of days — for a wet keyboard to dry completely. There are just too many tiny crannies for water to get into; you can't possibly get at them all to dry them thoroughly. Air drying is the only solution, and trying to restart the Mac before everything is really dry can damage things just as easily as they can be damaged at the moment of the original spill.
If the coffee had milk, cream or sugar in it, the keyboard will probably never be the same again, and will likely have to be replaced. Look very carefully below the outer edges of the keyboard, where moisture is most likely to have gotten below it onto the logic board and other components. If you find any indication at all that that occurred, the Powerbook is going to need professional service. For a description of what that will entail, see this article from a highly respected Mac specialty repair shop.
With respect to the hard drive and any data you may need to salvage from it, rest easy: HD cases are very tightly sealed, and even if the HD had gotten drenched, it's very unlikely that anything would have leaked inside to damage the data stored there. If worse comes to worst and the Powerbook isn't even worth repairing, you should be able to remove the hard drive and copy the data to another computer with little trouble.

  • Cup of coffee in my keyboard - can I go Wireless?

I have poured a cup of joe into my keyboard. Can I go Wireless ? The website says that I need original keyboard for set up but others say not. Also will it work on 10.3.x rather than 10.4.x ?

I have a feeling it depends if you go RF (radio frequency) wireless, or Bluetooth wireless. And on what you have in your iMacG5.
RF wireless should work out of the box, although you'll need a working mouse too.

  • So i dropped my ipod in a cup of coffee.

suggestions. the controls don't work and the battery died really quick. a friend told me to take it apart rinse it off and let it dry for a few days but if i open it the warranty is void (i think). i don't want to take it back because i am on ipod number four in less than a year and the guys at the apple store are going to think something is up.

My recommendation is that you be more careful, and learn how to treat expensive pieces of technology properly. The ordeal you put yourself through sounds ludicrous. To contrast that, there isn't anything I own that looks a day older than it was when I first got it; technology products, books, anything. ****, I even still have an old IBM-compatible 286 machine in my closet that works perfectly in every respect. Pity they don't build such sturdy computers these days.
BTW, whatever Apple store you go to, they'll have a record of your history, including all the replacements you've received.

  • Final Cup pro HD doesn't respond

    Hi everyone,
I've been using FCP4.5 for a while now, and I've never had any problem. Today, it did refuse to open, which is quite a problem since I have a project to finish. I've used DiskWarrior, I've run a Hardwre test, but nothing works.
Has any of you ever had that type of problem?
    What should I do?
    Thanks in advance.

    hi Alex
you need to trash your FCP preferences
a handy (and free) utility to manage this is FCP Rescue, which you can get from http://www.pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/ (kindly hosted by Patrick Sheffield until the author gets his site back up)
alternatively you can do it manually:
go to your users Library folder and look in the Preferences folder within.
you need to trash 4 files:
    com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
then inside another subfolder called "Final Cut Pro User Data"
    Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
Final Cut Pro 5.0 Obj Cache
Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prof Cache
there is also a apple knowledgebase article about this process (for FCP4.5)

    good luck

  • An Entire cup of coffee was spilled on the side of my MacBook Pro, it was in my purse, port side up. They were filled. I'm assuming the board or whatever is fried. If I go to apple tomorrow, what are the odds that my hard drive will be salvageable?

I'm usually good at backing up my photos and documents, but the last 2 months of pictures and videos are on there and not backed up anywhere. I'm heartbroken.

"What are the odds that my hard drive will be salvageable?"
Very very good, it's all sealed and only a large electrical surge or dropping it while running could do some damage.
Take it and use a SATA to USB adapter you can get online for $12-$40 and hook it right up to the new Mac and use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to transfer files.
OR you can access the drive directly and on a PC with MacDrive installed.
However the Mac itself is likley a goner.

  • COUNTIF doesn't count cells that contain line_breaks

I need help with the COUNTIF/COUNTIFS functions.
If a cell that contains the target string also contains a LINE BREAK character, COUNTIF and COUNTIFS do not count it.
I found that it works if I refer to a particular cell using the T and CLEAN functions in the formula
              =COUNTIF(T(CLEAN(cell),"target string"))
but T and CLEAN don't work with ranges.
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    George

If there is a linefeed, the string doesn't match the condition so it's normal that it's not counted.
One way to get rid of your odd entries is to insert a new column in which a formula will grab the contents of the original cells and clean them.
This way you will be able to apply COUNTIF on the new column.
In cells of column C the formula is :
    =CLEAN(B)
In E2, the formula is :
    =COUNTIF(C,"target string")
Of course, you may hide the column C

  • When I sync my IPod it remembers the plays and doesn't count them from 1 even though I reset the play count, any fix?

The problem is I like to track my play counts and like it to be correct, and it was having some errors so I reset my plays on all my songs however when I sync my iPod it will remember the amount of plays for example, if I play a song once on my iPod and then sync it it will have 1 play, then if I reset the play count back to 0 and play it on my iPod again when I sync it again it will give it a play count of 2 and so forth as many times as it gets played.
I have an iPod touch 5, the most recent iTunes update and the most recent iPod software (iOS 8.1) and am using windows 7, but I think the problem comes from the iPod because if i reset the plays and play a song through iTunes it will go to 1, but if i listened to it 3 times on my iPod when i sync it, it will then go to 4.
I have tried restoring the iPod and syncing it so there is no music on it and then putting it all back on but the problem persists. The only other thing i can think to do is uninstall/re-install iTunes but I'm worried if I do that it will delete my music. That is not a big deal as I have back up files elsewhere on my computer but I also have album art, lyrics etc. for all my 1077 songs and id rather avoid having to get it all back.
Anyone know how to correct this or is perhaps having a similar problem?
    Thanks, Sean.
