A Corrupted Itunes collection

What do you do if you think that your Itunes collection got corrupted? I can't make any changes to the info of my albums.

Select the iTunes folder, right click - Properties.
Make sure it is not marked *Read Only* and make sure you have *Read & Write* permissions to the folder and all contents.

  • How do I move my PC iTunes collection to my Mac with Drobo FS?

My iTunes collection is big--2,000 GB (2 TB).  It grew up on my first-generation Drobo, attached to my Windows laptop.  I recently purchased a Mac, and a Drobo FS.  The DroboApp Firefly was my planned method of execution, until I discovered that iTunes 10 broke it.  No more iTunes server.
I'm a software developer, and fully-prepared to doctor the iTunes XML files, if need be, but I would prefer not to do this.  Right now, it looks like a lot of search and replace strings on the XML files to convert the old catalog to the new one.
    Thanks!

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide ~/Music/ as the path, drag the entire iTunes library to the external drive, and if desired, then to the iMac's internal one. If you put it in a different location than the default, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it there.
If the library contains rented movies, those won't play on a different computer.

  • How do I transfer all my data, including iTunes, from my old Power  PC G5 running MAC OSX 10.5.8, to my husband's brand new 27" iMac?  His iTune collection is minimal compared to mine, and I would like to be able to access my iTunes on the newer computer.

How do I transfer all my data, including and especially iTunes, from my old Power PC G5, running MAC OSX 10.5.8, to my husband's new 27" MAC?  His iTune collection is minimal, mine over 2,000 songs.  I would like his computer to become my only working computern where I would manage my iTune collection.  Help!  Thank you.

  • Moving my iTunes collection from an old Windows XP Laptop to a new one

I have a large collection of music and books on iTunes. My old laptop (Gateway)has reached the diaposability phase of its short existence, so last weekend I bought a new Dell Latitude laptop with XP Pro. How can I move my current iTunes collection to my new computer - without reloading all of the music from the original CDs?

Gateway & Dell Laptops   Windows XP Pro

You just need to move the music files to the new PC. And then add them to iTunes on that PC.
You can also try moving the iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml files as well. They hold the song data for your library. They are usally found in C:Documents and Settings/<<Your User ID>>/My Documents/My Music/iTunes/. This usally seems to cause problems though so I would skip it.
The music files can be in any number of places on your PC. If they came from the music store they will have extentions like .m4p, .m4b, and .m4v. If you ripped them from CD they will probablly have either .m4a or .mp3.
How you move them is up to you. You could burn them to CD/DVDs, copy them over a home network, or move them with your iPod. There are a lot of catches to that last option.

  • Will TuringTest2s corrupt iTunes recovery guide work for a Mac?

    Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash
Im desperate to sort my issue and I think this could help but I'm not sure if these steps are the same for a Mac. I dont want to break anything and I want my content back.
Im trying to fix an issue where after a crash I am now getting this:
"The file iTunes Library.itl does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library (Damaged)"

Ok great, I pressed ahead and tried to do it and found all the right bits but for some reason iTunes Library.itl wouldn't let me rename it and I also couldn't do the finding a new library thing by holding down iTunes as I still just got the same warning that the library isn't valid and its been renamed and replaced.
    Any pointers?

  • Syncing 2 Ipods to the same ITunes Collection

If you dont mind sharing your music on 2 Ipods. ie) mine and my friends, am I right in saying you can just sync one and then the other one on the same ITunes collection ?

Using Windows XP I have managed to sync 2 IPOD's to the same ITunes Collection previously but now 1 doesnt respond at all.
    It just shows as charging.
Anyone else have the same problem ? and is there a way around it ?

  • Corrupt iTunes installation - file MSVCR80.dll needs to be reinstalled.

Where do I find the file MSVCR80.dd to reintall - apparently caused by corrupt iTunes?? Thanks.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Back up and sync a large iTunes collection

My main computer is an iMac. I have an iTunes collection with 89,000 songs in it on that machine.
I have baked the media up to an external drive along with the iTunes Music Library document.
What I would like to do first is be able to plug my external drive into my Samsung laptop, pull up the library on the extrenal drive, and listen to tunes on the laptop.  I have specified that the iTunes media is located on the extrenal drive in iTunes advanced preferences.  However, when I do so iTunes says it can't locate any of the songs in the library, so I have to locate them manually.  I have tried consolidating the library and resetting the library location to no avail.  The one thing I haven't done is wipe all the songs from the library and re-import everything, because that will take a while and it would be lame to have to do that every time I add new songs to the library on the iMac and go to back it up....
Which is another solution I'm looking for eventually, but for now I'm interested in solving the first problem if anyone has any guidance or suggestions.

on your site collection object call backup method
    ex:
    mySiteCols.Backup(@"http://Server/sites/MySiteCollection", @"\\OtherServer\WSSBackups\SiteCollections\BackupOfMySiteCollection", true);
    to restore
    mySiteCols.Restore(@"http://Server/sites/MySiteCollection", @"\\OtherServer\WSSBackups\SiteCollections\BackupOfMySiteCollection", true);

  • Corrupt iTunes library .itl file - help turingtest2

turingtest2 - I've read majority of your suggestions for people who have had corrupt itunes libraries and I was wondering if you could help before I spend 2-4 hours trying to fix my library.  Here is my issue:
I started iTunes today and found that only music in "the cloud" is showing up in my music library.  I googled this issue and came across your suggestions.
My last backup .itl file is from December 30th so I don't really want to use this.  I have made a ton of changes to my library since then.
The .iTunes Music Library.xml is fairly recent, however it is not as up-to-date as the library on my iPhone is.  There are numerous playlists and changes I've made since then as well.
Is there a way I can export the format of my itunes library from my device?  I'm not sure if the .itl or .xml is stored on the actual device, I assume it's probably not and just used for iTunes and then iTunes formats your device based on the converted .itl file.
I have all my music on my computer so that's not an issue, I just would like to have all the playlists I've created and changes I've made to my library.  My ideal situation would be to grab this file from my device, re-create my library, then sync it up with this library, which will take some time but I'll still have the exact same setup.
Otherwise, I'll have to use the older iTunes Music Library.xml and try to re-create all my playlists and add/remove the changes I've made to the library.
    Help is appreciated, thanks.

What are you seeing, a blank itunes library?
Add the music from your folders back into itunes, then.
Either drag & drop from a Windows Explorer screen into itunes - drop the top-level music folder onto the word LIBRARY near the top left.
Or do it through the itunes menu > File > Add Folder to Library

  • Can I share my iTunes collection over 2 macs?

    Hi all,
I have G5 iMac with my master iTunes collection on. I also own an ageing G4 Titanium laptop with limited hard disk space. If I back-up my songs from the G5, to a separate firewire hard disk - can I use that music collection on the laptop? (without importing the music onto the laptop internal hard disk) Thanks in anticipation.....

  • Can anyone give me advice on how to deal with a corrupted itunes movie rental?

Can anyone give me advice on how to deal with a corrupted itunes movie rental? I tried to download a movie and have been continuously trying to download it through the "check for available downloads" option, but it will not download.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not downloading properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

Can you launch your iTunes now?
