A curiosity about RunActiveContent.js in CS3

I use a utility that exports a .swf file. When I insert it
into DW 8, alkl goes well and it shows up fine. When I do the same
operation in DW CS3, the .swf doesn't show up. I went into the code
and found this difference.
DW CS3: <script src="../Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js"
type="text/javascript"></script>
DW8: <script src= "Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js"
type="text/javascript"></script>
as you can see, DW CS3 adds a
../ When I remove this, it works fine. I am pretty much a
newbie, so I'm curious what is going on. Thanks for your time and
advice.

Hi,
capturing from your computer would give you square pixel aspect ratio....and you're using an aspect ratio for SD TV ( ntsc ), so it is stretching ....no longer a perfect "circle" in the paw print...
Your project setting should be made in custom / desktop ( dont use a preset )...and set it for 720x480 square pixels progressive ( no interleaving ), 29.97 fps...  the codec choice for rendering when you set up the project could be dealt with later on if this solves your basic problem..
your export would then be the same as your project setting....720x480, progressive, square pixels, 29.97 or 30 fps ...should be good.
one note: h264 is already "compressed" quite a bit....its a "delivery" format...for viewing ...not really meant to be edited...know what I mean ?  So you will lose some quality due to that stuff already being compressed...
but your pixel aspect ratio being "fixed" with the above should improve what you see quite a bit.
good luck

  • Curiosity about FileVault accounts

I'm looking at my volume structure and cleaning up some space issues with Monolingual (4GB had crept back in since I last ran that) and happened to notice that if I Get Info on my User home folder for the one account I have that is FileVaulted, I get a silly response like 50kB when not logged in, which can't be right. That leads me to think that the actual files are stored in some other place, I believe as a disk image .dmg file.
Just as a curiosity, does anyone know where those files are kept? Apparently that place is not in the User folder?
    Thanks

While logged in to a FileVault account a .mike folder exists with the sparseimage in it.
ok, that it correct - I never noticed this before. but that directory is ONLY created when you are logged in into a filevaulted account. it's not present when you log out. the OP is asking about the size of a filevaulted home directory when viewed from a different account so that .mike folder would not be present.
The actual way to find out the size on the disk while not logged in would be to use this command from the terminal:
    sudo du -h -d 1 /Users
    yes, that will work.

  • Questions about smart objects in CS3-CS5.

    Hi.
    Two questions.
When I replace content of smart object in CS2 the content takes the size of previous state of smart object in pixels.
It was very useful when need to replace some background to another and it autoresized to the new size and proportion.
For example, when I replace content of smart object with external size 100x90px and 100x90% proportion (can see with Ctrl-T) with file with 200x300px size, i have new smart object with old size 100x90px and new proportion 50x30%.
When I try to do the same in CS3-CS5 I get smart object with size 160x216px and proportion 100x90%.
Haw can I return the old behaviour?
    Second.
In CS2 I use files with a lot of smart objects each of them may consists with some others smart objects and so on.
But i can`t use this scheme in CS3-CS5 because of very high consumption of scratch memory.
Very-very simple example. In CS2 create file 4000x3000px, create new layer and draw there black square 300x300px.
Convert the "square" layer to smart object. Then duplicate it with Ctlt-J 30 times. Save the file and reopen.
The scratch size is about 280 MB and practically not changing when moving layers with movetool.
Open this file in CS5. The scratch size is about 2.5 GB and quickly increase to 5 GB and above when i try to move layers. And this is a very simple file.
If i will try to open several such files in CS5 the amount of useing memory will be fantastic.
Why there is such behaviour whis memory in cs3-cs5 photoshops?
PS. sorry for my english. hope you understand me.

    Hi,
What version of Ps and AI are you using?
    1. In Ps, there's no controls for the AI layer visibilty, but the visibility attributes should be respected.
    2. The placed file is an embedded copy, not a link to an external file. However, there is a script that you might find useful for your purposes. I'm not sure if the Win support improved with CS5.

  • Newbie question about video quality in CS3

I'm new to Premiere CS3. I've been using iMovie but wanted to move up to an app with more features and finer grained tuning. However, I'm having trouble getting my imported clips to maintain their quality. Don't know if I've got PrCS3 set up incorrectly or if I don't know enough about video formats.
    I'm running Premiere v3.2.0 (374) on a MacBook Pro, 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3GB memory, OSX 10.6.6
    Here's my scenario:
I have a video clip with the following specs: .mov, 720 x 480, H.264, 30fps, bitrate 244 (see screen shot below). It was captured from my computer using Snapz Pro X.
I imported the clip into PrCS3 and was surprised the clip preview and composite preview were displayed at less quality than the original (even made sure the quality mode was set to "highest"). The video clip was squeezed a bit and the clean edges of my vector art were jagged. The entire thing seemed out of focus.
I thought the exported video might be better quality. I exported the sequence using the following settings:
But the results were no better (I've actually gotten better results using iMovie HD). Below is the final exported movie.
Any help from the PrCS3 community would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Curiosity about the level of load on SAP ERP systems

    Hello all,
In my company, I'm in charge of the SAP capacity planning and so, every month, I fill several Excel sheets to follow the load of our systems.
I am curious to know if our load is similar to that of other SAP ERP customers.
I would be happy if some of you would like to post their monthly load statistics for R/3 or ECC systems.
    Of course, I begin :
Production R/3 4.7 ext2 system, main modules SD and MM.
460 declared users, average 110 concurrent users
1 Win 2003 MSCS itanium cluster with 5 win 2000 32 bit app servers.
    stats for November :
    Thousands of steps
    TOTAL :            22 500
    Dialog :                 797
    Background :        459
    RFC :                4 439
    UPD and UP2 : 14 418
    HTTP :                  523
Average dialog step response time : 548 ms
    Database size : 1.1 To
The load evolution of the system  is
    always increasing
    stable for dialog steps (sapgui)
more and more external RFC calls
more and more web services calls
The system is less and less a transactional system and more and more a backoffice system executing services calls.
Thanks to all who will be interested to share this load information.
    Regards,
    Olivier

We are a manufacturing company and we have a lot of batch processing (MRP et al).
Yes - the systems are pretty big
    DB-Server/CI: 4 x DualCore Opteron - 48 GB Memory (ENQ, BTC)
    AppServer: 4 x Opteron 48 GB Memory
From a technical point of view we wouldn´t need the application server, the DB server could handle that load too.
The main requirement we have is, that the avg. reponse time in VA01 for each line item is below 450 ms everywhere on the world (China, Poland, Russia) on those remote locations - the system is in Germany - so we are trying to make sure, that the main time consumed on the box itself is rather small because of not always reliant network connections to the east part of the world (actually VPN). 1/3 - 1/2 of the actual avg. reponse time is consumed for network transmission.
On top of that we have about 550 printers defined because we print everything, that is related to the business process out of this SAP system which will also consume quite a bit of network speed/bandwith.
Our users are pretty much "regaled" with response time, on days, where the avg. time is increasing 100 ms, we get a LOT of calls because of a slow system. The benchmark assumed 2 seconds are unacceptable for our users thus it may appear, that the boxes are oversized but we need that power to ensure the speed.

  • Question about CS5 Upgrade from CS3

    Hi everyone,
I have Adobe CS3 and want to upgrade to CS5.  I noticed Staples are selling the CS5 upgrade version for a decent price.
But it doesn't state if it's for CS4 or CS3/CS2.  I contacted them, but they said they are both the same.... but I don't know if I can believe them.
Is the upgrade version for CS4 and CS3/CS2 the same thing in retail outlets? (i.e. you can enter in a CS4, CS3, and CS2 serial number for the same disc or is there separate products for each previous version - i.e. CS4 upgrade is different than a CS3 upgrade?)
I noticed when you buy it from the Adobe Store or even other sites like Newegg, they are marked as 'CS4 Upgrade' and 'CS3/CS2 Upgrade'... but on Staples its only 'Upgrade' and they told me it 'probably works for CS3 as well'.
Link to product on Staples site:  http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=&webid=885931&affixedcode=WWhttp://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?webid=885938&CatIds=&AffixedCode=WW
    Your help is greatly appeciated!
    Thanks!
    J

The upgrades are different in that they require different serial numbers for the upgrade. I don't believe you can use the CS 4 upgrade if you only have CS3. Call Customer Service to get an official response.

  • Question about upgrading my TLP CS3 license to a commerical license.

    Hi there,
I bought my Production Premium CS3 TLP license through an Adobe reseller 18 months ago. I opted for TLP on the reseller's recommendation because at the time i wasn't sure whether i would be switching from a PC platform to Mac platform.
Now that I've switched to Mac, i no longer need the cross-platform licensing advantage. Can I purchase a commerial license upgrade for Productiom Premium CS4 on the Adobe Store? Or am i forever locked into to buying TLP license upgrades?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andre

Hi Andre, I wonder if you ever managed to solve this?
I am in the same predicament but was told by adobe under no circumstances could I return to  retail licensed products. If you have manged to do this it'd be great to know.

  • A question about a difference between CS3 and CS6 (sorry if it's wrong addressed)

When I place in InDesign (both CS3 and CS6) a transparent tif image (CMYK) there is a difference between those created in Photoshop CS3 (correct) and CS6 (white background). Why?

EDIT: With the new InDesign CS6 update (8.1) Photoshop CS6 tifs with transparency import correctly now. Thank you

  • Curiosity about Threads

    Good day to all.
I have been working recently on streamlining an online application that displays / manages info from a db. In the application there are multiple views that can be called. A view expands a collection of elements so that sub elements can be viewed. There is no limit as to the depth of the objects. Generally though no more than 5 objects deep.
The application has been plagued with high memory overhead and slow performance.
When a user chooses to "collapse" an object, the object goes to it's deepest object removes it, moving upwards until it has no more sub objects in memory. The user was having to wait for this action to take place before the display would return.
I added a Thread to handle the object collapse. now the object re displays as if it was collapsed ( a speed enhancement ). The true removal of sub objects happens in the thread.
The interesting side effect of this is the memory footprint was reduced by about 25% after this change. A not intended but welcomed effect. I think this happened by reducing the amount of stuff happening in the main thread of the application, allowing the garbage collection to run more efficiently.
Interested in other ideas / points of view.
    Thanks

Interested in other ideas / points of view.Beeing a programmer requires you to think for yourself
you know. It's hard and not everybody is cut out to do
    this kind of work!
If you don't have it in you, quit now, that's my point
of view. Not a little too harsh?
Looks like he/she's done some thinking...
    Dorkey,
I would imagine that any time you do less, you should take less memory.. It is a good observation that waste and cruddy code that takes up cycles and memory pointlessly should be avoided...

  • Curiosity about a feature to iMessage.

I was wondering how the feature of iMessage where when your in a conversation, and your text field is at the bottom.. when you click on the text field, the screen goes up with it so you can still see the latest messages. I wanted to know how to do that? anyone have any ideas?

Usually when a textfield becomes firstResponder the keyboard pops up and this in turn posts some notifications (e.g. UIKeyboardWillShowNotification). These notifications include informations about the keyboard-size in it's userInfo-dictionary.You need to adjust your UI accordingly.

  • Question about Spry menu for CS3

When I created a menu using Spry it inserted this code in my
    template
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var MenuBar1 = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar("MenuBar1",
    {imgRight:"../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif"});
    //-->
    </script>
    does the path ../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif
reference where the gif file is located in relationship to the
SpryMenuBar.js or is it suppose to be in relationship to the web
    page?
I assume this is a value passed into the constructor of the
    Javascript file.

This is a little ambitious, but it is doable with CSS floats. You'll need 2 menus.  One floated left, one floated right and your logo image in the middle.

  • Curiosity about expired passwords

    Good afternoon,
It is fairly standard to expire user passwords after a period of time for security reasons.
Oracle includes this functionality, what is interesting and different than in most other systems, is the user can select the same password as the one that expired. Most systems don't allow the same password to be new password.
I thought that was worth noting.
    John.

Did you use PASSWORD_VERIFY_FUNCTION in your profile
Below password checks occur in the verify_function_11G password verification function.
1.The password must be a minimum of eight characters in length.
2.The password must include one digit and one alpha character.
    3.Simple passwords will be rejected.
4.The password cannot be the same as the username.
5.The password cannot be the same length as the username.

  • Mail: a curiosity about Smart Mailbox

    Hi
as mentioned before, I'm migrating my email from Entourage to Mail and would like to "maintain" some search rules structure. Moving to Mail, I don't find a "parameter/feature" creating searching rules:
When I specify a mailbox to search in (i.e. "Message is in Mailbox"), the search is limited to only this mailbox and not to its "child". This means that if I have a structure like this
    Inbox
    |
    +-- pippo
    +-- pluto
and I specify just Inbox as "Message is in Mailbox", the search is performed only in Inbox and not into Pippo and Pluto. I need this feature because I have to exclude in the search an imported mailbox with a lot of sub-mailbox.
    Thank you for the support
    Daniele

Sounds like you know what you are doing, but just in case...
Smart Mailbox is a virtual view into your inbox and your archive mailbox.  Your description of moved emails still showing up in your smart mailbox makes sense since it doesn't care what maiblox the emails are moved from.  You can add additional rules to filter out inbox vs archive so you only see new messages from those contacts, but I'm guessing you probably already know this (but just checking in case this is easily solvable).
As for the behavior of select all move to archive forcing already archived emails to vanish you are correct that it sounds buggy.
If your email is Gmail they don't treat archives the same way most IMAP email servers work so you may need to investigate further.
If you can set up your smart mailbox to exclude already archived emails you can probably just avoid this issue all together.

  • Out of Stock Curiosity

Hi, this is just a question regarding my curiosity about this device I found. When I went to BestBuy.com I searched for the device's availability, to see if it would be in the store when I buy it. But when I checked, it said unavailable in all the stores near me. So my question is, when will this device be available in my local Best Buy stores? Or did I do something wrong on checking the availability. I'm checking for the HTC Flyer. Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

All HTC Flyers have been discontinued and there are none to be had, after a week of bugging Best Buy on the phone and in person that is the answer I finally got from them.
