A dark shadow creeps up from bottom of new iPad and turns it off, then it turns back on at home page.  Erratically, not always.  You too?

Shadow creeps up from bottom of screen then new ipad turns off, then on again at home page, anyone else?

I have never heard of such a thing. Reboot your iPad and see if it helps.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
You typed Safari as one of the tags to include in your post so if you are seeing the gray screen in Safari, try this.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
