A DAW for 4 mics

My daughter is using an Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt with 4 mics and a stereo synthesizer into Garageband. She is recording herself singing and playing a grand piano. She does not like complicating things, but she will go the distance to get an effect. She is a performing artist.
She was told that for her purposes, a Logic Pro purchase would mainly give her many great plug-ins.
The questions:
1. For plug-ins alone, would you prefer Logic's library or at the same price, WAVES gold bundle (current special) - or other plug-ins. Part of this question is wondering if WAVES and other plugins have better sound quality attributes than Logic's and/or better (more intuitive) user interfaces?
2. Perhaps more important than the first question: As a single acoustic recording artist, what functions are in Logic but not Garageband, by which she might benefit? (Latest GB 10.0.3 improves plug-in ability)
3. A consultant told me he loves creating in Logic, but usually edits in Pro Tools.
What  advantage has PT or REAPER for editing/mixing/finishing over LP?

Logic Pro X comes with a boatload of great FX plugins and also Software Instrument plugins. Whilst Waves may be good, you are unlikely to find any package with the equivalent to LPX's plugins, plus sampled content, loops etc for the price

LPX has many, many functions over and above Garageband, but the important thing for you would be that GB and LPX share the same heritage, and work in a similar way so adapting should not be a problem.

Some would say "workflow", but if you consider cost and time energy learning a second DAW.... you can accomplish most, if not all, that you would need just using Logic.

  • Default values for long text for mic in inspection plan

    hi,
Some long text are coming default when i am creating inpection plan for mic.
This is coming for only particular plant. For other plant it is not coming. Is there anywhere we can make it as default for a particualar line item . ie for particular characteristics i.e 10, 20 etc
    sathish. R

    Hi,
I am not sure , whether you are mentioning about Long text for MIC or Default insp char number (10,20,30..) in the insp plan.
If you are talking about Insp char number in the insp plan . you can specify the same in SPRO , QM->Q planning ->Insp planning -> General -> Maintain profiles for default values.

  • Dv6-LT069av has a input connector for mic or other input devices, to connect a LP player

Pavillion dv6 has an input connector for mic or other input devices next to headphones connector on left side, to connect a LP player or other device thru the mic connector, what kind of cable is required? I used an RCA to male cord but no input on the notebook. And how to make it record from that mic input connector? Any settings need to be changed in Win7 to make it work? Thanks in advance.

    Get one of these ...
    http://www.amazon.com/Audiovox-Corporation-CRF907-RCA-Modulator/dp/B0014KKV7W/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_0
Connect the RF (Coax) output of the STB to the Coax-in on the modulator
Connect the Coax-out on the modulator to the TV
Connect the Video-out and Audio-out RCA jacks on the DVD/VCR to the Video-in and Audio-in on the modulator.
The STB signal will flow thru the modulator and allow you to watch TV as normal.
When you turn the DVD/VCR on, the modulator will sense the signal coming from the device and override the signal and inject it onto the coax (converting it to RF first) so that it shows up on the TV instead of the STB output.   When you're done and turn the DVD/VCR off, the signal from the STB will automatically return to the TV.

  • Best DAW for iPad please ????

Whatst the best DAW for iPad please ????

Well, this is really not the correct forum for such a question.. as this forum is dedicated to the use of Logic Pro so... you might want to try posting in the iPad/iOS apps forum
    But.....
Personally I use either Garageband, Auria or Cubasis when I want to do some light work 'on the road....' on my iPad.. and what exactly I wish to achieve.
This might help and provide more info...

  • What do I need for Mic and Guitar?

I'm new to GB. I have ilife 11.
I've got a few electric guitars and a condenser mic (phantom power). What do I need to plug them into my Macbook Pro?
I don't want to spend too much money and am looking for something that works well, sounds good and is hassle free (plug and play) I just want to lay down some demos.
Something like this? It really does not have great reviews.
    http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-US44010-Interface-GT-Player-Software/dp/B00061ZM2Y
What do you guys and girls recommend? A little direction would be much appreciated!

If you can push your budget up to $249, you'd be doing yourself a HUGE favor. This gives you the ability to pick up the Apogee One. Apogee is a company that's well respected, and makes really good stuff. This has a mic input, guitar input, made for Mac. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/One/
The M-Audio stuff gets pretty good as you step up into the higher priced models and the firewire ProFire stuff, but it's hard to beat the Apogee One as an entry level interface.
In my opinion, anything that costs less than $249 (the lower end M-Audio stuff) is simply not very good. If you're going to spend the money, make it worth it.

  • Adjusting for mic placement in Garageband

    Hi all,
I recently recorded a jazz band in a concert hall into Garageband. There were quite a few spot mics on stage, as well as a pair of stereo overheads. What I want to do is move over the overhead's track by the 30 milliseconds or so needed to compensate for sound speed, to make everything line up perfect. I'm not sure there's a way to do this in Garageband, but any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    You have two options.
    1) Use a delay Plugin
Use a AU delay where you can set the delay in ms.
    2) Move the Region
I dodn't know of any nudge command for the Region like in Logic but you can do it also "by hand".
First, sswitch the Time Display to "Time in the Control Bar
Now when you move a Region, a black Help Tag will display the Position, the Length and the Offset (how much you moved). The trick is to zoom in far enough that you can perform small movements.
The time is formatted in hours:minutes:seconds;frames:subframes.
GarageBand is base on 25 fps (SMPTE/EBU) and each frame is divided into 80 subframes.
If you do the math, then 1frame=40ms and 1SubFrame=0.5ms
If you want to shift the Region by 30ms, then you should have an offset by "0frame.60subframe"
Just a tip. Don't get caught up in numbers. At the end let you ears decide if it sounds right. There are other factors as early reflections and frequency response that play a role about the percieved "acoustic image".
    Hope that helps

  • FIX FOR MIC ISSUE ON X-FI SOUND CA

Ok, the title is a tad misleading, I'm not sure if this works everywhere, or on all sound cards. I just know after about a week of frustration with my brand new $2200 PC, (equipped with a X-Fi Xtreme Audio, big disappointment wishing I went with a Gamer Xtreme now...) I plugged in my lovely headset and mic for gaming, and much to MORE frustration, no mic support on my "non" supporti've "non flexijack" ports on the front of my case, so I moved to the back and still no dice.
So far this card has been a compatibility headache, everywhere from having to unplug the forward sound ports, to spending hours in the middle of the night (bad habits with not being able to enjoy tasks unless finished with my PC issues D=) just driving to find the full drivers for the card!
And still, much like all of you no working mic, ok so now you're shouting for me to get to the point, in my frustration I decided I'd try all the ports on the card to see if that would fix it, and in my fury and climbed behind the PC, headset on volume turned up and mic ready to go (unmuted), tested the pink (PROPER!!!!! Creative -.-) port, to no dice. Moved one jack over, no dice and finally tried the blue sound port on the farthest end of the sound card...
SUCCESS. I heard myself, my heart literally fell into my loins.
Who the heck messed that up? But hey, I don't care. A working mic on my Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio.
So HOPEFULLY there's the fix for it. Move your mic to the blue jack on the back of the card and give it a go. Realistically, what do you have to lose?
    Hope I helped!
    `digitaL.braVo

OK, let's think for a minute that I have a 5. speaker system installed and the microphone connected to the FlexiJack in the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer.
Let's try now to change the FlexiJack configuration so it accepts the microphone as the input source for recording. Oooops, all options for FlexiJack are greyed out.
I've tried every single posibility for recording on the sound (recording) control panel and none of them seems to work (I would change then one by one and the try the windows sound recorder to test if it would work). Although when I tried the microphone works perfect on another computer with a 5. Li've Sound Blaster card.
So, is this an issue with FlexiJack and Xtreme Gamer cards?
    I'm a missing some steps?
    Kind regards.

  • LSMW for MIC

    Hi All,
I want to upload more than 1000 fresh MIC's (Qualitative and Quantitative) both in a fresh client. I made some LSMW without formula for practice purpose. But in real i want to upload with formula's so my doubt is where and how to maintain this formula..? please suggest some methods with an example
    Regards,
    Santosh

Hi Santosh, formulas are maintained in inspection plan and not at MIC creation. You can use LSMW by recording method for uploading MICs.  But to use them in task list it is better if you can develop a BDC. You have to do lots of excel work for precise relations of formula prior to upload it. Try to create manual plan using QP01 with MIC having calculated characteristics ticked. You will get some insights of it.
