A diagonal line across every cover in the cover flow view

I have a black diagonal line across every cover when use the cover flow view. Even in the iTunes store, in the tv shows or music videos, in cover flow view, I still see a black diagonal line across the cover.
I reinstalled iTunes 7.0.2 a few times, but the problem still remains.
Verypong.

Had the same problem too. Also the problems of bottom text (which displays number or songs, amount of time etc.) displayed incorrectly with maximized windows; some part of iTunes 7 would turn black when I resized its internal columns/windows; and the annoying resource-eating habit that caused maximizing/restoring other windows slowing to a crawl.
So far, my solution is going back version 6.
Please fix the problems soon, Apple! I didn't have problems like this with Windows Media Plyaer 11 beta!

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line on this page to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • HT4641 after modifying a document in Pages I found that there are horizontal lines across every line break when opened and saved it in DropBox.  Does anyone know why?

after modifying a document in Pages ON MY IPAD AIR I found that there are horizontal lines across every line break when opened and saved it in DropBox.  Does anyone know why?

Thanks a lot for your swift response. And sorry if it was a bit too hectic to go through my detailed query (which I did because it was misunderstood when I asked previously). As I've mentioned above, I was informed that updating to 5.0.1 would '''require''' me to '''delete''' the current version and then install the new one. And doing so will involve losing all my bookmarks. I guess I should have been more specific and detailed there. By losing, I didn't mean losing them forever. I'm aware that they're secured in some place and deleting and installing the software doesn't harm its existence. What I meant that if I install the new version, I'd have to delete the old one. And after installing the new version, I'd have to transfer them (bookmarks) back from wherever they are. Get it? When it updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.13, and from 3.6.13 to 3.6.18, I didn't need to follow that process. They were already present on their own.
BTW, I'm having no problems with 3.6.18 but after learning about the existence of version 5.0.1, I'm a bit too eager to lay my hands over it.
Thanks for your help; hope this wasn't extremely long.

  • White circle with diagonal line on start-up  where the black Apple was

Started up an A1138 powerbook. It showed the black Apple, then the revolving little hairy wheel for quite a while, then replaced the black Apple with this circle and now just sits there. Any ideas? Thanks

Thank you. This is a very interesting article, but I think I am in deeper trouble than I was before. I reset PRAM/NVRAM, held X during startup and ended up with a blue blank screen after a few seconds. I next reset the PMU, as per the article, with the same result - blue screen. I next tried to start up from my Leopard DVD; the optical drive did a little spinning but never loaded and I'm back at the blue screen. In addition my DVD is now stuck in the drive. My usual solution, either holding down the clicker on the trackpad, or the Eject button, or both did not cause the DVD to eject. I had some problems earlier, before all this happened, and did manage to re-install Leopard, but a little later got the problem with the broken folder icon as described in my post.

  • I can not get the album flow view anymore, why not

I can n ot get itunes to show the music as album flow, where the album covers were shown above a list of music, can anyone tell me why?

It was removed from iTunes 11...
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
If you really want to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created, or just add the media folder to the library. iTFW may be able to preserve ratings & playcounts if files have been renamed and therefore moved since the backup was taken.

  • Coverflow is fixed for me! No more Diagonal lines cutting across artwork.

I was one of many that was plagued with that nasty diagonal line cutting across each artwork in the cover flow display. There was one update that still did not fix the artwork issue but the very next upgrade that allowed for full screen cover flow didn't have that nasty diagonal line issue. I'm glad that is finally fixed!
I stopped using cover flow because I became so angry seeing that line and having my mind wander about why it was there and why it was there for so long. And then I just plum forgot to check in here to see if therewe any update for the problem.

Well, My Coverflow is still working well! Apple finally got something fixed for us Windows users! Thank you!

  • Why is there a line across the top of iCAL 5.0?

why is there a line across the date on the iCal page after I installed Lion?

I got rid of the line by shrinking the calendar on the secodary monitor. The line doesn't appear in the full screen view nor on the primary display (MacBook). so if I don't want the line, I live with a view samller than the monitor screen :-)

  • IMac boots to bit-mapped rows of diaganol lines across screen & then freeze

Im not sure where to post this. Unsure if it's a start-up or a display problem - or both ...
A friend of mine was trying to install boot camp on her 17" Early 2006 but the installation failed half-way through ...
Now, when the machine is switched back on - serious square or bit-mapped looking rows of diagonal lines appear from top to bottom on the screen at 30mm gaps ... it boots up OK to the grey Apple Screen with the spinning cog below - then the lines disappear and the blue start-up screen - looks like it's about to show the 'Starting Mac OS X' window - but then stops - and the cursor changes to a weird rectangular mess - and nothing else happens ... the cursor still moves - so I know the system is not completely frozen - it just won't boot past the blue screen ...
The only way I can get it to boot to the desktop is in Safe Mode (shift key at start-up) - but it boots all the way with the diagonal lines.
Here's what I have tried so far ...
    * - reset pram
    * - targeted it to another intel mac and used Disk Utility to zero the hard disk to a single Mac OS Extended (journaled) partition (erasing the previous XP portion created by the botched Boot Camp assistant).
    * - a clean install of Mac OS X.4.6 via a 'C' boot.
    * - restarted into safe mode holding the 'shift' key to get to the desktop.
    * - run software update to see if there were any new EFI or Firmware updates.
    all to no avail ...
I have also scanned the Apple downloads pages and here in the discussions.
And also the Boot Camp discussions - I can find only one other post with a similar issue - but there is no 'fix' or solution posted ...
My hunch is the firmware has been affected by the boot camp installer - or something to do with the EFI parameters on the video board.
I have tried everything Apple suggests - including an attempt to reinstall the firmware via a hard press of the power button and inserting a special install firmware install CD from Apple downloads - but I can't get the firmware bar to load at start up ...
If I try reinstalling the latest firmware update - I get a message saying "Your Firmware is up to date' - or 'This update is not needed on this machine' ...
Q: Is there a stand-alone installer that will reinstall the firmware - without doing a version check - and just do a fresh firmware install ... ?
Does anyone know a way around the version check.
I am convinced this issue is a software/firmware related problem - I sense the EFI settings have screwed up the video settings on the board - and I all i want to do is refresh them.
It's still under it's initial 1 year warranty - but I'm not sure a botched Boot Camp install is covered ...
Sorry for the long post - but I'm hoping a nice apple guru can help me out with this 'very hairy' problem ..
    ... macfinger - auckland city
    17" intel imac early 2006 1.8GHZ 512RM

OK - here's the result of the rows of diagonal lines across the screen on the 17" Intel Core Duo iMac, which I posted last week ...
The logic board was definitely faulty - it could not be repaired by firmware or otherwise ... the service centre was very vague about which area or part of the board failed - but I suspect it was the embedded video board or VRAM ...
(actually - I still reckon it was a botched firmware - but seeing as Apple's 'Open Firmware' is nor strictly 'Closed Firmware' .... there was no way of actually testing that theory for sure ...
From what my friend has told me - she said this fault was the result of a botched Boot Camp XP installation when loading the Windows drivers from the Mac generated Drivers Install CD which froze - and then trying to boot back into Mac OS X by doing a hard restart, after it failed ...
A message to any future readers of this post:
If your machine shows signs of of the above symptoms - you'll have to return it to an Authorised Apple Service Centre to have the logic board replaced (hopefully under warranty) ...
BE SURE AND BACK UP ALL OF YOUR PERSONAL USER DATA FIRST - AS THERE WILL BE NO GUARANTEE YOUR USER FOLDER WILL BE RETAINED WHEN YOU GET YOUR MACHINE BACK ...
You can still access your HD by doing a safe boot: hold the 'Apple' & 'S' keys immediately after you hear the start-up 'chimes' ....
Once you're back to your desktop - use your machines internal CD-RW/DVD to copy your files to disk ... it's a bit tricky with all the lines across the screen - but persevere - 'cause that's what we did - and we know it can be done.
    Good luck ...

  • Diagonal lines in timeline

I have just imported an old project from an older version of FCP to version 6.0.4, and my entire timeline has diagonal line across it, I can not seem to do any editing, it seems locked. Can anyone help?

The video track illustrated above is locked. Click the padlock icon to enable editing again. FCP saves this state if it is active when you quit your project.

  • Image problems with my 6D...diagonal line

Hello, my name is Lindy and I'm new to this forum. I've been having a problem with my Canon 6D which results in some of my images appearing with a dark diagonal line across the upper left hand corner. I've seen this problem with both my 100mm L lens and my 16-35mm lens. Has anyone had this problem before or have any idea of what may be wrong?
    Thanks!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi Lindy.  You've got a bit of "dust" on your sensor (only in your case it looks like a tiny hair).
    It's easily fixed.
See page 279 of your owner's manual which describges how to clean the sensor.
I do, however, recommend that before doing an automatic cleaning cycle, you remove the lens and point it at the ground -- that way this little hair has someplace to go when it falls... other than finding itself another location inside your camera.
After cleaning, poing the camera a plain white wall (or ceiling) and snap a photo (it doesn't even have to be in focus).  The dust shows up better at high f-stops (it'll be fuzzier at low f-stops).
Sometimes automatic cleaning is not enough and you have to do something further.  If that's the case, then see page 283 for "manual sensor cleaning".  This simply causes the camera to power down the sensor, but open the shutter (and hold it open) so that you can inspect and clean it.  If you look inside, what you're REALLY seeing are the two filters in front of the sensor.  The front filter is the one that vibrates (using a piezoelectric effect) to "shake" dust loose.
I use a variety of techniques... the simplest and safest is to use a simple hand-squeeze (bulb) blower such as a Giottos Rocket Blower.  I recommend you not use cans of compressed air because the liquid propellant in the cans can spray out if the can is either shaken or not held perfectly level and that leaves a residue on the filter (and the only way to get that off is to wet-clean the filter).  Even air-compressors spray water and oil.  A hand-squeezed blower is the safest option.
If that doesn't work, I use an extremely soft small paintbrush.  They actually do make brushes that plug in to release any static charge so that if something is sticking because of static cling it will hopefully release.
If that doesn't work, I use a sensor scope to inspect my sensor and get a better understanding of why it still wont come free (because generally it would have by now) and then wet-clean the sensor using Photographic Solutions brand "Sensor Swabs" and "Eclipse" cleaning solution.  The solution is nearly pure methenol which means it evaporates very quickly and leaves no residue behind.
My guess is a simple manual cleaning (with camera pointing at the ground) -or- a hand-squeezed blower will likely do the trick.  If you do resort to a brush, give that brush a couple of good solid whacks on the edge of a desk or table to throw off any dust that could be on the brush -- as you don't want to add dust on to the sensor as you are trying to brush that hair away.
Most "real" camera stores (stores in business primarily to sell and service camera gear -- not big box stores that also happen to sell cameras) offer sensor cleaning, but usually there's a charge associated with that.  It's fairly easy to learn to clean the sensor (which is why Canon has a section in the owner's manual) and it's something photographers have to do.... just occasionally.

  • Transparent diagonal line on iPhone 6 screen after contact with water

I had recently dropped my phone in water on accident and now there's a transparent, diagonal line across the bottom right part of the screen. When the phone is off, I can't see the line but only when it's on. After a while, some of it starts to fade away but, it's never completely gone. I'm not too sure what I should do to fix this, could anyone help? I have an iPhone 6. Thanks and sorry, I'm new to this. I'm not sure what category to put this under

You really need to take it to the Apple Store and have them take a look at it. We cannot diagnose the extent of water damage that may or may not have been done over the internet....
    Sorry,

  • Diagonal lines/questionmarks showing up on templates of entire site

I have a huge website and don't want to have to start all over! Please help. On my iWeb, not the published site, I get all of these diagonal lines and question marks in the background. Part of the template is missing (details of stars in the kid blue template) The Web site itself doesn't have the lines, but some pictures are missing and some of the text is messed up. I don't know what to do to fix this. It has been suggested that I just eliminate the domain and start over. I pray that isn't my only option as I have spent many hours on the blog. I would greatly appreciate any help.

The lines show up on all of my pages within the iWeb program. The blog seems to be the most effected with missing pics and moved text in almost all of my blog posts... I have like 30 of them. I want to continue with the blog for my friends and family as we live on the opposite coast. We just bought an iMac and I'd like to work on my site some more, but don't know what I should do. If it is a currupt file, I don't want to bring the domain over to the new computer. I don't want to lose all of my work tho... what to do?
If I insert a new page wiith the same template, kids blue, it does the same thing. If I insert a different template, it doesn't have the lines.
    Pleeese help me...

    Varkgirl is right!
You have corrupted Kid Blue template, I experienced something bad (not quite like this) when I was writing the templates installer for Suzanne (sboben).
Sorry, I didn't make the connections, but looking at your screen shoot:

Hi, I'm currently browsing the web looking for a case that is compatible with the smart cover for the iPad 2. If anyone has any suggestions I would be glad to read all opinions! Thanks!

I love the Smart Cover. It fits the way I work and I love the instant on/off and the always available screen protection. I wouldn't use my iPad without it.
I got a Cover Buddy for the back, because I wanted the back to be less slippery when I'm using the iPad in the classroom, teaching. I picked this back cover because it's VERY lightweight, easy to get on or off and, protects the corners, has accurate cutouts for the ports, and (in the colors) has a rubberized surface:

I have a Built NY "hoody" slip on case with a hard internal shell that I use when I'm in the field and I can put the iPad with the Smart Cover and the Cover Buddy inside this . But for everyday use, the Smart Cover with the Cover Buddy is a terrific combination.
