A different iTunes windows install problem: "validation"

am posting this for a friend of mine who has been using iT on his windows laptop for years.
He was trying to install the latest iTunes, and he downloaded it okay. When it started installing, he gets as far as the step "validating" and then it just stops - no error message or anything.
any clues? I see other folks have been having Windows iT install problems, but not exactly this one (there was no error message number).
(He's using a pre-vista version of Windows - could it be that the newest iT is only supposed to work with vista? I know nothing about windows.)

Just a few quick thoughts.
1. The newest iTunes does not work with Windows 2000.
2. Some problems have been due to a display setting. To see everything the display setting (Changed through the Control Panel and/or Display) should be 1024 x 768.
3. What specific error messages is he seeing?

  • K8N Neo4-FI Windows install problems (S-Ata problems)

    Hi
Last week I "upgraded" my computer from Nforce3 (Radeon 9800 Pro) to Nforce4 (Radeon X800GTO) and when I did setup everything the platinum screen just hang but after removing all usb devices and tried to plug one after one in to the computer I located the problem the motherboard didnt like my keyboard so I changed it and I was able to boot, but then another problem came, I cant install windows XP at all, after booting with the cd this white text "checking something computer configuration" and then everything gets black and nothing more happens,
I tried to change memory from (Corsair 3200XL to some other) and still the same problem, did also try to unplug the hdd, floppy and also tried to change the Graphic card from X800GTO to X600 but still no luck.
What can be wrong, I managed to install windows 2003 sever but I really hate when something doesnt work, doesnt feel ok
    EDIT:
    I have a 3200+ Winchester cpu, 1024 Corsair 3200XL mem and Tagan 430W psu and Connect3d X800 GTO Graphic
    EDIT2:
I have now located the problem to my S-ata discs, when I unplug them the install starts but when I plug them back I get the same problem, Im not running raid

I suggested what I did because the black screen on Windows install is a common problem when RAID is set to enabled on a NON-RAID array.
One other possibility: ke84 are you installing Windows XP? - and what version is it?  If it is pre-SP1 it may have trouble understanding what SATA is.  If it is SP1 or later is should work fine without installation of any extra drivers, so long as RAID is set to DISABLED.
I would still try installng on a single disk, connected to SATA-1 on the mainboard, before considering the above problem.  If one disk doesn't work, try the other.

  • Cannot install iTunes - windows installer problem!

I have spent two days trying to fix the registry and use a clean utility. Nothing works! I see that this is a fairly common issue that has been around for several years, but none of the fixes (including the msi utility that MS has now taken down) works. Some suggested that I just uninstall the windows installer utility, but I'm can see how to do that. I've tried stopping the service, but it doesn't work.  I am looking at my new iPhone which is a lovely paperweight.

This did not work for me, but you might want to try.  I have both an iPhone and an iPad2.  I think that I am going to have to reformat my drive.

  • I have encountered a different iTunes 7.0 problem from the rest if these

ok, I have wrapped my brain around this one as much as I care to.
here is "MY" problem with the new upgrade.
To start, the background info I guess. I opend up my old (6.0 version) and tried to download one of my favorite TV shows (WILDBOYZ)...lol anywho, it said that a newer version of iTunes was needed. So, in response I attempted to download the new version. When I did, I got the usual windows installer junk with the "would you like to run this software etc" so I got through all that and during the middle of the download I was prompted with "A newer version of iTunes already exist on this computer, cannot continue with installation". So, confused at this point I went to the support section on the Apple website and saw some of the suggestions. So I then removed all old versions of iTunes and Quicktime from my computer via remove/change programs from my control panel etc. I then attempted to retry the download (I have disabled my "Norton Antivirus protection at this point) I was then prompted with another error message and this time it said
"Error 1316. A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\iTunes.msi"
I don't know what to do with this and I have not seen any other realted problems within this discussion forum regarding problems with the new updates for the 7.0.
can anyone help me with this one, cause I sure would like to see Stev-O and Chris Pontius (WildBoyz) jump in the lake full of crocodiles or something...lol, not only that but I oyuld like to continue BUYING movies and shows for my iPod.

"Error 1316. A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\iTunes.msi"
the 1316 was more common with QuickTime standalone installs than itunes installs, but there's a technique that you can try that has had some success with it.
are iTunes and QuickTime no longer showing in Add/Remove?
if so, also go in and manually remove any itunes and QuickTime leftover program files and program folders, as per the "Uninstall older versions of iTunes and QuickTime" section of this document:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime software in Windows
... next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, and use it to check for any leftover iTunes and QuickTime installation configuration information. (if you find any, remove it with CleanUp.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
reboot the PC and try another itunes install. does it go through without the error messages now?

  • After updating iTunes windows says problem exists and closes program

I installed the new update 11.2 etc and now when I open iTunes a windows box pops upand says there is a problem and closes the
program.  Now I can't even get to any of my music.  I am afraid to uninstall and re-install because I am not technically saavy.  I did
go to the Programs listing and hit Repair and even after that it won't work.  What a mess.  I haven't been able to use the Burn Disc
for quite a while now.  Should I just take my computer in for repair? PLEEEEEZE ANSWER.

  • ITunes 9 install problem: software for communicating with ipods not install

I downloaded and installed the update for iTunes 9 via apple software updater last night, and when I started iTunes I got the error "The software required for communicating with iPods and Mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?" I click yes, and it says it couldn't fix the problem.
I followed the instructions here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923) to completely uninstall itunes and quicktime and all supporting components, including mobileme and bonjour and then reinstalled iTunes9 using the setup file downloaded from apple.com. Still no luck! I get the same error when I start iTunes.
any suggestions? Help! Should I go back to the older version of iTunes?
btw, when I uninstalled iTunes, I kept my library files and two plugins around: last.fm scrobbler and mmkeys. Does this matter? I don't think so: I tried removing the plugins and I still got the same error.
I'm running Vista 64bit, and I used the 64 bit installer.

For those using Windows 7 64-bit, I also experienced this frustrating installation error. However, tonight, I was finally able to install iTunes 9 without getting the communication message by setting the compatibility tab under the properties tab of the installer to the following settings:
    - check "run this program in compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service Pack 2"
    - check "run this program as an administrator"
    - launch the installer by right-clicking and selecting "run as administrator"
After selecting those options and also uninstalling iTunes and the Apple Mobile Device Support, iTunes 9 finally installed without any glitches on my Windows 7 OS.
Unfortunately, I don't have any advice for Vista users except for the already posted recommendation to use the 32-bit installer.

  • Win7 and newest itunes 64bit install problem

I have not seen my itunes installation problem here on the forum yet. I hope someone can help.
I completely removed Itunes per the Apple instructions, in the correct order, and verified all was gone from the computer. I downloaded the latest version for my 64bit computer (Win7), which currently is 10.5.1 for windows 64bit system. After installing it, I receive a message saying that "this ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes then reinstall the 64bit version of itunes.
I've done that no less than 4 times now, same message. Has someone a fix or idea for this problem?

Try to use 10.3 instead, the 10.5.1 dont work on all PC computers, I  couldent install the 10.5.1 but 10,3 installes without any problem. I have a  good cumputer so it is nothing wrong there so it is only a bad program from apple.

  • Is it possible to have two different iTunes versions installed, by just using a different install folder on Win7, pointing at the same music resource?

I really don't like the new version of iTunes, with CoverFlow removed. Makes navigation very poor IMO.
Can I go ahead and just install an older version with CoverFlow still present in another Win7 folder, and point it at the same music resource?
Very poor decision by iTunes to omit this popular preference - and unless its put back in quickly, can see peopl leaving when they feel their config has gone.

I don't really want the hassle of uninstalling the 'latest' (****) version, as it might mess my system, plus, at some point, this will be upgraded, and I reckon with CoverFlow put back in! SO, I would upgrade this as my 'main install'.
The older one, I would use temporarily, until put CoverFlow back into its newer releases, if you see what I mean.
So, my question is implicit and more specific - can I have two different version installed, in different folders/locations, without causing conflicts I don't wanna uninstall the new one just to put the old one back on.
Very bad that iTunes put me in this position, really.

  • Slate 500 Windows install problem

I format my HP Slate 500 64 GB SSD.  Now i select Disk 0 Partition 2 ( 59.2 GB free space. Primary) but is not start and this message in the screen   " setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information" How can i install windows 7 on my slate 500 tablet ? Please help me.
    Thank you for your support.

Did you ever find an answer to your issue?  I ordered an HP slate 500 dirt cheap, and will be playing around with this device if you still need help, but unsure if I will run into this problem.  I will be attemtping to install Windows 7 Enterprise and Ulitmate editions to the tablet to see if they will work with HP drivers.  Basicly want more security, and test manageability from Server 2008.
My guess is that you need to do a clean, custom install of Windows 7.  This will require deleting and formatting the HD for all Partitions and installing the HD driver.  Have you already created other partitions because I find it odd that your using Partition 2 default, unless your dual booting the device.  Especially after formatting the HD, it should really have no information, and I advice against Dual booting with a 64GB HD.  Windows 7 really needs 40GB alone for the OS.  I suggest Ubuntu loaded from USB to wipe the HD and then W7 USB boot to format and install OS.
I also heard that HP added some type of password feature on the HD so installing a new HD is more of a hassle, and could be related to this, but I know nothing on this yet, but what I read.  Still reading up on the Slate, but when I get it in my hands next week I can actually work directly with you on the issue.  Also if it works like I want I can create you a VDI to load on a USB which will install my custom setting W7OS.
Also found this Advanced HD Format Info Utility.

  • Windows install problems, "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key" and general wrongness

    Hi,
I've been having this issue with a Windows 7 install.
Firstly, I have successfully installed Windows 7 before. I partitioned my HDD, held down option when booting up, booted off a USB and after a few goes it all worked fine. I didn't use boot camp assistant to install. I then proceeded to remove Windows a little while later. To do this I used disk utility to erase the partition on my HDD and but afterwards discovered my imac would continue to try to boot off the now non existant Windows partition. I solved this problem by using boot camp assistant via the "Remove Windows 7 Install" option. My imac booted up exactly as I would like it to from then on.
I am now trying to reinstall windows. I tried the way that I did it the first time but after partitioning my HDD via disk utility, inserting my USB and rebooting with option held down I am only given the option of my main HDD and my recovery drive. I have tried burning the files on the USB to DVD and booting off the disk drive by holding down C while starting up. Neither the USB or DVD are visible to be selected when I hold down option during startup.
When I try to use boot camp assistant to install I get a "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key" error after the step where it partitions your HDD you. Also, my option to create an install USB via boot camp assistant is greyed out and unavailable for clicking.
    Help?

    Fix your superdrive.

  • Freehand 9 Windows install problem

I have received from a client a couple of Freehand files (.FH9) that don't seem to be translating into Illustrator (I tried Illy 8 and Illy CS2) properly. I still have my Freehand 9 CD, so I thought I would try to re-install Freehand and save out the files in EPS format. I haven't used Freehand for a number of years.
But, when I try to install on any of my XP systems, nothing happens. I get the unpacking dialogs, but that's about it. 2 machines are running XP Pro 32 bit, and one XP Pro 64 bit. Same result on all of them. One one system, I got some more unpacking dialogs after about 5 minutres of no activity, but then, no more.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    TIA!

Usually the Next button does not highlight until the install
    program
recognizes the serial number as a valid formated number. It's
    most
likely they are missing a number, used lowercase letters
    instead of
uppercase, did not use dashes when required (or vice versa),
    or
    something else small but wrong.
MX does require product activation but if they are not online
    it should
give them the option to call a toll-free number.

  • Itunes - windows installer problems

I tried to update from ITunes 11 to 12 and got "Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed". So I removed ALL Apple software from my Windows 7 PC, did various recommended fixes from Microsoft, but still the same. Now I get exactly the same trying to reload ITunes 11! I have had this problem on previous updates, and deleting the various Apple software has always fixed it, but not this time. So very frustrated - anyone know how to fix this please??

    Hi Brendan
tried that but didn't help. This is what fixed the problem:
    - go into command prompt mode (AKA Dos mode)
    - type in      sfc /scannow
    - let it run.
This solves many Windows problems where files and settings have been lost or corrupted. In fact, Apple should add this to their articles on Windows problems with ITunes installation.
    Thanks

  • ITunes Administrator Install Problem

I'm trying to upgrade to the newest iTunes version, but I keep getting a message that says, "Service ‘iPodService’ (iPodService) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient priveges to stop system services." I'm just not sure what I need to do with my administrator privelages with Windows XP to get the install to work.

that can happen sometimes if the itunes installer is having a hard time shutting down either itunes or quicktime (or applications using quicktime) prior to the install. so let's try a "download, restart, then install strategy."
    leave your ipod unplugged.
download and save a copy of the itunes installer to your hard drive. (do not run the install on line, and do not start the install by clicking on the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file just yet.)
    iTunes 7.1.1.5 Installer
shut down running applications and restart the PC.
do not open any other applications prior to attempting the iTunes install. switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
now start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.
does the install go through properly this time?

  • Primairy IDE and Windows Install Problems!

Hail all, I have had this issue the last 48 hours for the most part, but it started last monday night..
I orderd all my stuff from newegg.. I got:
    Intel 775 Socket 2.8ghz Prescott
    ECS Mobo (psh model)
    2x 512mb DDR 3200
Western Digital 80gb Hard Drive at 7.2k RPM (my only OEM item)
Chaintech GeForce 6600 GT video card
Jaht ( I think? :p ) Wireless PCI Adapter (can't have wires running in my room)
    Aspire-X Dreamer II Case
    Rosewell DVD/CD-RW combo (very cheap).
Anyways, I hooked it all in and it wouldn't give a signal to my monitor. I found out a small mount was hitting the mobo, and it was probably damaged. I got a new motherboard on Friday (which was all of my paycheck being as young as I am), the grand MSI 915P Combo. Oh, it was so shiny and awesome!
I got a signal to the monitor, and it started up. I put in a floppy for the latest BIOs and it seemed to go right. I put in my WinXP disk, and rebooted. Do do do, it starts to do that 'pre-'load Windows thing. When the little message at the bottom says "Loading Windows Setup". I am thinking "so leet  ".
When, HELLO, my first Blue Screen of Death (before I even installed Windows! I love that). It says check for Virusis (I havn't been on the internet..) and uninstall any new HDs and such. Well, that confuses me. So.. I put in my friend's very very old HD (which has tons of buggies in it BTW) and that loads fine. So I put mine back in, skim through my BIOs and I notice that the HD is the Third Master IDE, and that my CD-ROM slot is considered RAID.
    What the hell?
I am going to install the older set of BIOs for the 915P Combo from July instead of the September ones and hopefully that'll fix it.
Has anyone else had any errors like this? Thanks - Erik

you skiped the part about him buying the msi board.
