A Discussion Problem... on the discussions

So I do not know if anyone else is experiencing this but whenever i post a discussion on these forums and someone answers I will go to the discussion and only my initial post will be on there, the peoples answers are not visible. The only way I can tell what people said is when it emails me. I have tried logging out and back in several times but the problem continues. Any ideas? Thanks.

Problems with the new Pages.

Hi everyone.
I wonder if i am the only one experiencing a little problem with the new Pages?
My problem is that every other time i want to correct the font lets say trying to underline or make the font fatter using the hotkeys "Command+B" or "Command+U" or "Command+I", or even changing it manually in "formats" my font gets stuck, and i have to copy-paste text from another pages-file into my old one to get et back to normal.
Anyone else tried this?

JackieMars71 I would recommend reviewing your installation log files to determine if there are any errors during the installation process. I have encountered a different iTunes 7.0 problem from the rest if these

ok, I have wrapped my brain around this one as much as I care to.
here is "MY" problem with the new upgrade.
To start, the background info I guess. I opend up my old (6.0 version) and tried to download one of my favorite TV shows (WILDBOYZ)...lol anywho, it said that a newer version of iTunes was needed. So, in response I attempted to download the new version. When I did, I got the usual windows installer junk with the "would you like to run this software etc" so I got through all that and during the middle of the download I was prompted with "A newer version of iTunes already exist on this computer, cannot continue with installation". So, confused at this point I went to the support section on the Apple website and saw some of the suggestions. So I then removed all old versions of iTunes and Quicktime from my computer via remove/change programs from my control panel etc. I then attempted to retry the download (I have disabled my "Norton Antivirus protection at this point) I was then prompted with another error message and this time it said
"Error 1316. A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\iTunes.msi"
I don't know what to do with this and I have not seen any other realted problems within this discussion forum regarding problems with the new updates for the 7.0.
can anyone help me with this one, cause I sure would like to see Stev-O and Chris Pontius (WildBoyz) jump in the lake full of crocodiles or something...lol, not only that but I oyuld like to continue BUYING movies and shows for my iPod.

the 1316 was more common with QuickTime standalone installs than itunes installs, but there's a technique that you can try that has had some success with it.
are iTunes and QuickTime no longer showing in Add/Remove?
if so, also go in and manually remove any itunes and QuickTime leftover program files and program folders, as per the "Uninstall older versions of iTunes and QuickTime" section of this document:

Actually, a "requested resource" error message (which I believe you are getting) most of the time has to do with iTunes having a problem with connecting to your iPod, rather than the iPod software update server (although a more rare possibility of this error message could occur in that sense).

I have a brand new HP laptop windows 64bit that is having issues installing Itunes 10.6.3. Whenever attempting to install, I get the error message : "THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WINDOWS INSTALLER PACKAGE. A PROGRAM REQUIRED FOR THIS INSTALL TO COMPLETE COULD NOT BE RUN CONTACT YOUR SUPPORT PERSONNEL OR PACKAGE VENDOR." I thought this was an issue with the new version, and attempted to retrieve/install older versions of Itunes and same issue occurs. I have tried other forums and resolution tips from : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3551 and nothing still. It appears that apple installs bonjour and nothing else. I have tried extracting the itunes package and installing the executables seperately, but everytime the error stil arises. I cannot repair the apple software update as it cannot install from the error mentioned above. Looking through the logs, it shows error : 1721, problem with windows installer package.Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try?

The file .docx cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents in sharepoint document library

I created a site and created a document libarary and assigned a word document as a content type . I have written a workflow to create a new document . The workflow is working fine and all the document is getting created and values are getting stored
in it .
As per my requirement I am saving the above site as site template .
After that I am creating a new site based on the above site template , Its getting created and I started the workflow , its working fine and the document is also getting created .
The problem is I am getting error while opening the word document
Error - The file filename.docx cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents .
Details - No error details availble .

What are you doing within the txt document? Is it general text and string based items, or have you something more elaborate going on?

Now MacBook Pro 17" early 2011 built May onward do not have this problem it was fixed in the Intel's 6 Series Chipset. (So there is a problem). Cam I have my MacBook Pro fixed please.

After biting the bullet and ordering more RAM, my computer now is working a ton better. So that must have been the main issue. With 8 GB RAM, I can now even run Parallels fluidly (better than my work PC!) where before simple things like logging in to my MBP after reboot could take forever.
The place I went to had several other people getting RAM upgrades at the same time as me, so between this and other comments I've seen in discussions here and elsewhere on the Internets, I take it to mean that either Apple should bump up the base RAM on its new machines, and/or stop charging so much for additional RAM.
I refused to believe a Pro machine bought with Lion installed would come with too little RAM for light to medium usage, but it was apparently the case. I'll mark this as a correct answer and hope some other poor soul will come across this thread and be helped by it.

Problem using the Write to SGL VI and Read from SGL VI

Hello Sir, I have a problem using the Write to SGL VI. When I am trying to write the captured data using DAQ board to a SGL file, I am unable to store the data as desired. There might be some problem with the VI which I am using to write the data to SGL file. I am not able to figure out the minor problem I am facing. I am attaching a zip file which contains five files.
1) Acquire_Current_Binary_Exp.vi -> This is the VI which I used to store my data using Write to SGL file.
2) Retrive_BINARY_Data.vi -> This is the VI which I used to Read from SGL file and plot it
3) Binary_Capture -> This is the captured data using (1) which can be plotted using (2) and what I observed is the plot is different and also the time scare is not as expected.
4) Unexpected_Graph.png is the unexpected graph when I am using Write to SGL and Read from SGL to store and retrieve the data.
5) Expected_Graph.png -> This is the expected data format I supposed to get. I have obtained this plot when I have used write to LVM and read from LVM file to store and retrieve the data.
I tried a lot modifying the sub VI’s but it doesn’t work for me. What I think is I am doing some mistake while I am writing the data to SGL and Reading the data from SGL. Also, I don’t know the reason why my graph is not like (5) rather I am getting something like its in (4). Its totally different. You can also observe the difference between the time scale of (4) and (5).

As already discussed a while ago, your binary data does not contain timing information. You need to tell it the scan rate so it can reconstruct the time axis correcty.
From the data, it seems the sample file was recorded at 0.5MHz. Take the inverse and set the time increment. Voila!
Your sample file is two column data with one colum all zero. You need to set the number of columns to two, to only get the good data in channel 1.
Your acquisition program contains unecessary FOR loops, you can remove the inner loops without change in result.
It makes no sense to convert to SGL if you initialize the shift registers with an empty DBL array. You need to initialize with an empty SGL array.
(The code could be simplified quite a bit more, but this should give you some directions).
The attached zip shows some ideas (LabVIEW 7.1).

The infamous problem of the Click Wheel getting frozen

Since I've read a lot of stuff on the internet about this very common problem, and that nobody has found a solution, I wanted to start this topic in order to solve it through different experiences in the community.
I live in Spain, but bought my iPod nano in Canada last October, and I noticed the click wheel problem since the very beginning. Sometimes it got frozen, so I used the Hold Button to “reset” it and it worked again, but I have to say that it was very annoying to get this stuff stucked from time to time.
But in December, it started to get frozen more frequently, and now it happens every time I turn the iPod on. It responds to shaking, so I shake it and start listening to it in random play, and after some minutes (may be an hour, or may be never), and after many “Hold Switch slides”, I get it back working properly again. It normally keeps working fine for a while, but suddenly it can get frozen again.
Here is a list of observations I’ve made, despite the problem seems to be very randomly (sometimes it fixes 2 min before turning on, sometimes it gets an hour, sometimes it never unfreeze):
-Some people have said that it’s a moisture problem. Well, it is happening here, where humidity is high, but I was in a very dry place for Xmas and it happened the same way. But the fact that it works when it is hot rather than when it is cold is in support of this hypothesis.
-Some people say it’s some dirt between the wheel and the contacts. I tried cleaning the borders of the wheel and it didn’t worked.
-If I charge it full, it works immediately, but for a while
-Sometimes I turn it on and immediately touch the wheel and it works, but 1 sec latter it isn’t working again. Sometimes I turn it on and it doesn´t work at all.
-Of course I tried the “5 R’s” and a full restore. Reinstallation and updates of iPod software doesn’t work either.
SO:
1- Any suggestions?
2- Is Apple going to do something with this? (the problem is here since iPod Nano 2G). I’ve read somewhere that their policy is to tell you that the iPod is so cheap that you can buy another one (but it seems that is a serial problem so that irrational answers will not work)

Some points to ponder:
It is very difficult to determine from Internet reports how common a problem really is for any product with a very high sales volume. If millions are sold, hundreds of reports still just represent a tiny fraction of them. Generally, if a problem really is inherent in its design or manufacture, a very high return rate follows & the maker is forced to correct it to stay in business.
Internet reports also suffer from the problem of not always providing enough info to determine if the issue is exactly the same in each report, or if it has the same cause. Quite often there are a number of "me too" reports that list no details or are too vague to determine much. Sometimes a follow up reveals that user error, abuse, or post-manufacturing damage is involved in some of the reports.
This is not meant to imply that real problems in design or manufacture don't exist, only that it isn't a good idea to make overly broad assumptions about commonality without sufficient information.
You have provided a lot of useful info about your own experience, enough to rule out some of the theories & to make others seem much less likely. But it is still important to consider that those theories may explain some of the reports & that the same symptom does not mean the same cause must always be involved.
With that out of the way, here is what I see as a synopsis of the symptoms you observe:
• The frozen scroll wheel problem was intermittent but occurred from day one of ownership
• It got worse over time & now occurs every time the iPod (Nano?) is powered up
• Toggling the Hold switch repeatedly seems to temporarily cure the problem
• Performing the 5 R's has no effect
• Cleaning the borders of the wheel has no effect (details?)
• The problem doesn't occur if the iPod is fully charged (details?)
• Weather effects may be involved somehow but not in an obvious way
If this is accurate, it would be useful to know how many other users see any of the same things, or if they see something substantially different.
Also, note that the participants in this forum are just users & cannot know what if anything Apple will do about this issue. The terms of use prohibit our discussing Apple policy so all we can do here is try to uncover as many facts as we can about when the symptoms occur & what does & doesn't work to resolve them.

Exchange 2010/Outlook 2010 Security Alert (...there is a problem with the site's security certificate.)

I've been looking to resolve this issue for a while now and was hoping someone could help me understand my options.
We have Exchange 2010 & Outlook 2010 in our environment. I've created a SSL cert for our ActiveSync from a reputable CA and unfortunately, as you may not be surprised, we are seeing an alert each time we open Outlook that states:
"Security Alert; Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the site's security certificate.
The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site."
Of course my internal server name does not match my external server name. So the SSL I had created for use with OWA and ActiveSync is rejected by my internal Outlook clients.
After doing some research I believe this is related to the Autodiscover service being configured with my internal server name and not my external name.
I've found some info about adding New-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory and Set-ClientAccessServer commands and then found this article that might help. (Configure
Outlook Anywhere to Use Multiple SSL Certificates) but nothing is specific to my configuration and I'm concerned about what will happen to my existing configuration if this fails.
What happens when you run Set-ClientAccessServer? Does it retain and keep the old server config in place and add a new one or does it wipe it out? Will all of my devices need to be reconfigured?
Same with New-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory. Does this simply add another virtual directory or is it going to overwrite my existing config?
Then there is the question of whether or not any of this will actually address my issue at all.

One thing I did notice is that there isn't a _tcp _autodiscover entry for MailInt in my Forward Lookup Zones. It was recommended that I make that entry for _tcp _autodiscover(SRV)MailExt.contoso.com in another post I read somewhere.
I believe what I am trying to do is create a new autodiscover object as is shown here:
I see there is a Get-ClientAccessServer & Set-ClientAccessServer command but I need to add a CAS. Does the Set-ClientAccessServer add or simply modify?
Or would that require the New-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory command? I read
this page that discussed creating new virtual directories but that seemed a little risky without knowing all the ins and outs of how this service functions and to what degree this would affect the existing configuration.
I was able to use the Set-ClientAccessServer command and change the actual internal autodiscoverUri to https://MailExt.contoso.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml but the name still says MailInt and I continue to get the SSL cert warnings because it is looking
at MailInt.contoso.local.

There is a problem with the Office database - Office 2011

Good day!
I recently installed Office 2011 for Mac and i'm getting the following error message: There is a problem with the Office database. Excel comes up with the error message but i am able to get past the error and open the application, but it freezes when I try on Word. I have to force quit the application to close it completely.
I've searched online and tried all the suggestions - even those from the discussion board: Problem with Office Mac 2011 database. I've completely removed traces of the software : http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2398768 and reinstalled using the disc, as well as followed suggestions to rebuild the database. I also installed the latest Office update: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44026 from Excel (As it was the only one I know of that's functioning after the error message) but to no avail.
Here are the tech specs:

version 10.9.5
Office 2011 for Mac
Version 14.4.4 (140807)

Problem with the math library functions

Hi,
I encountered a problem related to some functions provided by math library on sun. I narrowed it down to the following test program:

The above test program has to be linked with any math library. It is �libm� for amd64/linux, but for sparc we have choice between �libm� and �libmopt�. I am compiling above program with "cc <test_program.c> <-lm/-lmopt>" command.
On sparc, if the above test program is getting linked with �-lm" then it gives same results for the �cos� on both amd64 and sparc, but gives different results (16th decimal digit onward) for �pow�. If it is getting linked with �-lmopt� then it gives same result for the �pow� on both the platforms, but gives different results for �cos�. Linux results match with the amd64 results.
The �Numerical Computation Guide� provided by SUN (ftp://docs-pdf.sun.com/802-5692/802-5692.pdf page 40, table 2.10 ) says that you can trust only 15-17 decimal digits for double calculation. But here the requirement is to match the sparc results exactly with the amd64/linux or at least match the result till 20th decimal digit. I guess it is something to do with the FPU setting either through compiler options or code. I tried many different compiler options, like -fast, different combinations of compiler options provided by -fast macro, but nothing helped.
Following is the system configuration:
Amd64:
gcc version: 3.3.6
OS: RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0 U7 (Linux 2.4.21-40.ELsmp x86_64)
Sparc:
cc version: Sun C 5.8 Patch 121015-01

Transcendental functions are not specified to be correctly rounded in the same
sense as +-*/. So it's entirely possible, and often observed, that libraries of equal
quality deliver slightly different results.
To simplify, suppose one wanted to compute x = 4*atan(1.0)
which happens to be the
transcendental number pi which is roughly, in hex and in decimali:
.C90F DAA2 2168 C234 C... * 2^4 or 3.141592653589793239...
But binary floating-point arithmetic can only represent certain rational numbers of
the form of an integer of at most 53 significant bits times a power of two. The
nearest double-precision number to pi is
.C90F DAA2 2168 C * 2^4 or roughly 3.141592653589793116...
This particular number has a large but finite decimal expansion. And if you
do printf with %e.20 you will get the 20 decimal digits of that double-precision
number's expansion, not the 20 decimal digits of pi, which only agrees to the
15 significant decimals 3.141592653589793 and differs afterward.
In the case of pow(10.0,2.5), (which happens to be sqrt(1.0e5))
the correct result in hex looks something like

in hex notation, while the closest double precision number is
.9E1D 276F D4BA C8 * 2^9 or roughly 3.162277660168379612...E+2
but it's only slightly closer than the next closest double precision number
.9E1D 276F D4BA c0 *2^9 or roughly 3.162277660168379043...E+2
Either answer is a good answer, and math libraries might that only aspire to
deliver results that are close to correctly rounded might deliver either, depending
on which approximation algorithm is used, which might depend on what's fastest
on a particular processor.
So why don't math libraries deliver correctly rounded results instead of almost?
Because the slight extra increase in accuracy doesn't do much good for most
people, and the major decrease in performance is noticeable by lots of people.
The main payoff of correctly rounded transcendental functions is that they
promote uniform numerical results across platforms, which is worth something
to some people but not much to many people.
So for those who find it worthwhile, there are correctly rounded transcendental
function libraries available. Sun's development version is available at

Another solution for some people is to change double variables and functions
to long double, using powl and cosl in the examples. That increases the
accuracy to almost 20 digits on x86 and over 30 digits on SPARC, and while
the same issues eventually arise, most users would never encounter them.
The SPARC long double implementation is in software rather than hardware,
and so entails a major performance reduction compared to double.
The Numerical Computation Guide at docs.sun.com discusses many of these
issues at greater length.
