A document with 300px height and width with a ppi of 300 is 4.17in?

I'm totally new to Illustrator and need to make a document that is going to be placed in a magazine ad (it's a free placement, hence why I'm just trying to do it myself). I can get around in PhotoShop, but Illustrator is confusing to me. The ad dimensions are supposed to be:
2.33" w x 7.5" h
700 x 2250 pixels
When I create a new Illustrator document, leaving the Raster Effects setting in the Advanced section at 300ppi, if I change the Units setting to pixels, put in 300 for width and height, then change the Units back to Inches, it says the width and height are 4.17 in.
Why is that?
I'm so confused :-/

Print work doesn't use pixels.
Set the document to 2.33" x 7.5"
Click the "Advanced" option in the New Document Window and ensure that the Color Mode is CMYK and then Raster Effects is set to High (300ppi) and you are done.
You can't think in terms of pixels for print work.
Illustrator, being a vector application, is resolution indepenedent. This means it doesn't use pixels at all unless you place a raster image into Illustrator or use a raster effect within Illustrator. the Raster Effect setting ensures any raster elements created within Illustrator are created at the correct resolution.

I tried Peggy's List > Select All > Copy > Paste into an AW spreadsheet suggestion.
In my case, pasting into the spreadsheet lost all text formatting (mostly text set to bold). The results of formulas were pasted, and checkboxes were pasted as "on" or "off". The DB did not contain any pop-up menus or radio buttons, but I expect they would transfer as a number showing the list position of the chosen item.
Pasting the copied List view data into a Numbers table gave a result similar to that with AppleWorks. I selected B2 as the target cell (for top left cell of the pasted data) to avoid any effects of posting into a header row or column. Bold and regular text formatting looked the same as it had in AW's List view.
Based on that, I'd slip the 'paste into an AppleWorks Spreadsheet step, and paste directly into a Numbers Table.

Your Windows system will not open any Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents. No applications exist for Windows that can open those formats. You will need to export your documents in Word, Excel and PowerPoint formats, respectively, before you'll be able to view and edit the documents on your Windows system. The iWork documents can natively open Word, Excel and PP documents, though there are limitations on what can be imported (for instance, Numbers does not support all possible Excel functions). Consult the documentation for the relevant iWork application for details on importing and exporting.
If you are asking how to get the documents from one system to the other, then there are several ways to do that, including file sharing, using an external drive (hard drive, USB flash drive), or emailing the documents to yourself. Which would be best for your situation I can't say without more details about your usage.

I'm not sure what you mean by it making accessing files more complicated. I have both Pages 4.3 & Pages 5.1 icons in my Dock as well as Numbers 2.3 & Numbers 3.1. I continue to use the iWork '09 versions for my everyday needs. As long as the new versions are in your Applications folder & the '09 versions in the iWork '09 folder, Software Update will not have a problem updating them even if Apple should come out with a new update for the '09 versions.
Because I have moved the new versions to an external drive & renamed the apps because I want '09 to be the default apps, I do have to remember to move them back to my applications folder & restore the original names before updating. But since you like the new versions this "complication" doesn't apply to you.

Can I turn off the setting that displays the height and width in a little black box when using the marquee tool?

When using the marquee selection tool, a little black box pops up next to the curser and displays in real time, the height and width of the selection. The same annoying box also appears when dragging an item with the move tool, displaying the numerical location of the cursor. Is there anyway to turn off the display of that little black box? It is driving me bonkers.

Under the preferences cmd/ctrl-k click on "Interface". At the bottom of the UI is a drop down box for show transformation. Set that to "Never"

Not all controls can be sized this way. For example to change the vertical size of a simple numeric, you would need to change the font size.

Essentially, you need to check for a change in .textWidth or .textHeight, which are different from .width and .height.
This code works for me (assumes a background box called bg and a foreground text instance fg inside a moveclip and an X and Y bounds offset variable to say how far away you want the box from the text and a textFrameNudge to provide a tweak value).

How to resize and maintain height and width ratio IR image column

Hello, I am upgrading from 3.2 to 4.1 reports that include images in report columns. I have had good success with this except for one thing. If the height and width is fixed it distorts the photos, and if I do not have fixed dimensions the image may be too large depending on the original dimensions of the :P1_PHOTO item which is File Browse... BLOB column. I do not want to restrict users ability to upload large image files, or files with different dimensions, but I want them to display as a thumbnail size proportional to the original dimensions in the report, or maybe I need a different approach? Report region template is No Template. I appreciate any suggestions.

Try to go with max-width / max-height. However, if you have IE browser, hang on for pain. For some ideas, some links:

What i have done before is not to have my browser scale my images, especially when the images can be large(r) and you expect quite some traffic. All those extra (kilo)bytes won't help it load faster. I just added an extra column in the table, like photo_thumb, and create a scaled version of the uploaded picture when it is being inserted.
For example, i have the following process on my apex page, and i'm using wwv_flow_files.

You have to find the good combination of fields and length in order to get a nice UI.

Report Designer - Layout height and width

Hi Experts,
Is there an option to adjust the report designer layout height and width? I am able to adjust the individual row and column height. I have a report designed in report designer which will have only 5 rows. when I execute this web template the report item is displayed in one entire page instead of only 5 rows.
How can I control/adjust the page size in report designer? Is this possible?

are you starting the report from the portal directly, or do you have it embedded into a web template? As the Report is a web item, you can set the size of the item.
At first I was considering posting the reports directly to the portal, but there are some things that I don't like with how it handles them - for example if you have a report based on the query view, when you post it directly to the portal it will execute it with the saved variable values before you can change them. Thus, I have to put it into a web template and set to prompt for variables at the beginning.

Dynamically changing the height and width of Stage

          I would like to know how can I change the height and width of stage dynamically. I tried it with the following code:
                         Stage.height = 250;
                         Stage.width = 250;
during the run time. Initially the Stage is at a height and width of 370 and 450 respectively. Also when I tried to trace the height and width of Stage after resizing the stage width and height, its showing the old value of width and height. That means the width and height not chnaging. Anybody have any idea about this.

            I could understand something about the problem after making a research on this topic. We can't change the width and height of stage from actionscript itself, right? I will explain the way I am planning to do. I don't know whether its right or not. Anyway you just go through it. First the player need to be resized, according to the specified height and width. Then in the object tag, there are two fields named height and width. We should change these value according to the specified height and width of video controller, dynamically. Am I right? But I am confused with two properties of Stage such as: align and scaleMode. The code was actually developed my trainer. There, the scaleMode is set to "noScale" and no align property is used. My doubt is how should I set align and scaleMode properties of Stage. Hope you understood what I meant.
