I have been reading and seaching around for a while for Thunderbolt for the rest of us. So to reply to your suggestion of Googleling the web before asking, I have been doing that for many hours. The reason why I posted this thread is that information on this topic has been pretty confusing even for a 30 year Mac addict. Please excuse inadequate terminology ... and imprecise information. As for the point I am tryning to make, I am pretty sure that I am right. If it's incorrect, please explain what I am confused about.
When reading about Thunderbolt and SSD, a newby must be pretty mixed up. Thunderbolt is a great feature until you understand that it's speed (theoretically of 1000MBps) is limited by 2 bottle necks: the drive's and the enclosure speed. You can have any Thunderbolt enclosure if it is connected through a USB 3.0 interface or if it's own speed is 100MBps, Thunderbolt is nothing to be screaming about. More, I can say that there is actually any real world external drive that can deliver at Thunderbolt or SSD speed ... at least for a respectful price for the average user. Even with a SSD drive delivering at 600MBps, the bottle neck is the enclosure's interface that is normally at USB 3.0 speed. The only drive, and it is internal, that seems to be delivering outstanding speed is Apple's SSD drive connected to the PCI express interface running at 1000MBps.
So after reading, I was pretty mixed up and also amazed that guy's out there were selling the Thunderbolt dream when even with a SSD drive installed it is limited by the USB 3 output interface. I found on the web Buffalo selling it's Thunderbolt Ministation with a SATA 1 drive running at 150MBps pretty far from the Thunderbolt pretended 1,25GBps. I also found La Cie selling their Rugged USB 3 Thunderbolt drive promissing 385MBps with a 5400rpm drive ??? G-Force is also offering G-Force Mobile at 136MBps.
Oyen Digital confirmed that as of now any of their USB 3.0 or SSD drive does not work at speeds exceeding 400MBps, meaning that USB 3.0 drive delivers speed equaling Thunderbolt drive. Even Phil0124's suggestion is running at 136MBps speed ...
So the real thing would be to have a real Thunderbolt interface speaking to the computer's Thunderbolt interface. Then we would have real Thunderbolt speed. So more than ever, I think this thread is pertinent. I would appreciate be told wrong and to benefit from anyone's experience on this topic.
If you have found a great Thunderbolt drive (running at more than USB 3.0 speed) at a convenient and affordable price ... please help us.

i think that the connection goes over the OLAP processor on the SAP BW side (MDX). Voyager is an OLAP tool. I am not sure if there's some shared code (DLL,lib) among the BOBJ tool portfolio (CR, Webi, Voyager) or if we are can talk about a standalone driver (BO side). But even in this case this should not be a safe information since it can change in future versions.

This is not the forum for MacBook Pro owners.
You just need to reformat the drive in Disk Utility and erase the drive and have Mac HFS.
If you did need to use NTFS then you would not want -3G but Paragon NTFS for OS X x. 10.0
Or buy something that isn't pre-formatted to Windows NT file system.
First though make sure you have backups of your system. TimeMachine being used now?

In the Mac side of things, backups usually come in two flavors: clones or incrementals.
A bootable clone is a bit-for-bit copy of all essential files in the startup volume. If using the Lions, clones can be made using CarbonCopyCloner or just plain old Disk Utility. These backups represent the safest protection of your info, but take the longest to do. Recovery is an inverse process: you copy the clone back into the internal drive.
Incremental backups start with a complete backup of the startup volume and only copy whatever changed from the previous run. OS X includes the fully integrated Time Machine backup utility to do this. It is extremely easy to do and takes the least amount of time. Recovery is another matter altogether since you have to start with a freshly installed instance of the OS and have to apply all intervening backups to bring the result to the latest saved version.
As for where the backup takes place, the recommended media is an external dedicated drive or drives connected via the fastest interface available on your Mac: Thunderbolt, USB3, Firewire, or USB2. Network-based backups, wired or wireless, are attractive but may not offer the same performance and hence take longer. Also important to note that the entire drive need not be completely dedicated to a single backup. The Mac's EFI firmware infrastructure allows for an unlimited number of partitions on a hard drive and each can be used for either type of backups.

Can I put Lightroom or the Nikon photo editing software on the IPad? Right now I carry a PC laptop and external hard drives with me on wildernes trips. Internet and WiFi are not available. No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.

I am using bootcamp with windows 7, and always is showing me that there is no networks, it says I don't have a driver for the adapter; therefore i keep installing it, and suddendly windows 7 doesnt recognized it.

Is there a flash drive for the iPhone 5 that I can plug into my phone, copy all of the hundreds of photos and videos I've taken of my baby nephew using the iPhone camera to, and then pull out so I can just give the drive to my sister? Downloading/transferring all those photos and videos to my computer, then emailing or sorting and burning them to a disc would take FOREVER. The photos and videos of the baby are all mixed in with my personal photos and videos I've taken and sorting them out would be a nightmare. One clarification: I agree that the iPhone is not for long-term photo storage and I'm not looking to use it that way. What I'm looking for is a quick and easy way for me to get the photos/videos of my nephew to my sister so SHE can store them long-term. (Then I can delete all but a few of them and transfer them to my computer for storage pretty quickly and easily). The way I know to get all those photos/videos to her would take a very long time (which I don't have) and would require a lot of time sorting (which I don't have time to do either). Please don't suggest I pare down the photos and videos for her. This baby is a miracle baby and the Mom needs to get all the photos and videos. Understand where I'm coming from?
Regarding not keeping any favorite photos/videos on an iPhone: It seems normal to have some favorite photos and videos remain on an iPhone, kind of like a "Grandma's brag book" of most beloved photos. Even the most no-nonsense person might have 20-30 photos of someone or something they love, so they can share them with interested people or peruse them when they want to feel connected or be grounded.
I can't be the only person dealing with this issue/needing this type of hardware. Opportunities and need for photo sharing abound. If nothing else, it seems like an easy way for Apple to make a whole lot of extra money while making a whole lot of consumers very, very happy.

I neglected to say that I tried updating the driver from the Device Manager device window and the result was a message saying it could not find a newer driver, that the one installed was correct.

It appears that the Creator install installed part of the driver but not one that functions. It might be a problem with Windows 7 or the fact that this install is 64 bits.
I have searched the HP site and can't find a driver for the device. When I look at the list of drivers available for this system, the optical drive is not shown.
I downloaded and installed the HP driver search program - or whatever it is called - and ran it. There were no devices listed on "Optical Drive" tab when I looked at the results - it could not "see" the drive.
I realize that what I need is probably a generic driver from MS, that's why one is not shown on the HP site, but how do I go about finding the right one for this device?
Is there a generic "one size fits all" driver for Windows 7 which can drive this device?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
If you detect a faulty add-on, you should contact its author for support. You can also search for alternatives. Site filters are relatively common in the add-ons gallery: [http://addons.mozilla.org addons.mozilla.org].

Any hope for a Windows 7 or Windows 8 driver for the Conexant 23880

I have a HP m1050y desktop and am looking to get a driver for the Conexant 23880 video capture (Blackbird NTSC Dual-input) I have not had any success in getting any sound from it. Currently running Windows 8 developer preview, or can you suggest a replacement card that will work with this setup.

What happened to the printer driver for the HP Laserjet 1020?

After installing HP Printer Driver Update v1.1.1 for Mac OS X 10.5.3 my HP Laserjet 1020 no longer works. When I sent a print command from any software it seemed to work properly, but nothing printed. The information in printer utility window indicated that the printer was ready and there were no items in the queue.
I removed the printer and attempted to reinstall with the updated driver. However, there is no driver for the 1020 in the driver selection menu, despite the fact that it is listed as one of the drivers included in the update.
Can anyone suggest where I can obtain the appropriate driver?

greg sahli: I followed your suggestion to reset the printing system and re-install the driver update. While there is indeed a Receipt for the 1022 Series pkg, the driver does not appear in the drop down menu. The drivers closest to the 1020 that appear are 1010, 1012, 1015, and 1100. None of these drivers work.
I did find an 80% solution at Macosxhints. I will make do with this until the new OS X system comes out. If it has the 1020 or 1022 driver that works with my printer I would probably buy it. However, if it does not and the fix from Macosxhints doesn't work with Snow Leopard I'll be hard pressed to justify an upgrade until my printer dies.

Need swappable CD rom drive for the Satellite 230CX

After hours trawling the net, I still haven't found the part number for the swappable cdrom drive for the Satellite 230CX.
Sadly a couple of sites say it's the PA2659U / XM-1402B, so I bought one from eBay, and it doesn't fit!
Any help would be appreciated with either the straight answer or a pointer to a parts list.

Where can I find a driver for the SM bus? It is not available thru HP support.

I have a Compaq Presario V5120NR notebook. My operating system crashed and was not recoverable. I ourchased a copy of Windows XP Home Edition and installed it. This is the same operating system that came on the notebook. I downloaded all drivers available thru HP support and installed them. The Device Manager still shows that I have no driver installed for the SM bus. The notebook works, but has a few "quirks", such as the screen saver comes on, but then goes off for no apparent reason. No major problems, just little annoying things like that. Any idea where I can get the driver for the SM bus would be greatly appreciated, :-)

You're very welcome.
Normally the SMBus controller with the chipset in your notebook is installed with the graphics driver.
I figured installing the generic AMD driver might contain the SMBus controller your notebook needs.
So, you can try that, or...
I have one other suggestion. Try this driver and see if it works. You have to manually install it.

Download and run the file. It will extract to C:\SWSetup\sp33927.
Go to the device manager and click on the SMBus controller needing drivers.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the manual search method and browse to the above folder.
Select the SMBUSati.inf file and see if it installs the smbus controller.
This driver is from a dc5750 desktop with an AMD chipset. Maybe that is a generic ATI controller used by a lot of PC's.

The driver is nati've to Windows. Creative does not write the MTP driver. I would suggest re-install WMP2 or contact Microsoft for advice if it is corrupt.
