while i was browsing photos on google, another page just came up that said i have to update firefox and my flash player for security reasons and then a box just popped out and i clicked save file. After i installed it, i came back to the download page and i became suspicious because it has no mozilla.com in its address, it was http://setupfirefox.co.cc/
i researched on it in the web and i realized that i have just downloaded a fake firefox update which probably has a virus on it.

  • Report a possibly fake firefox update being provided on *****

while browsing through image results on google the tab redirected itself to ***** where it asked to download a new firefox update. This update was repored to be containing a malicious software by windows malicious software removal tool. Also the website looks fake.
'''Edited by a moderator to remove link that will install malware'''

Yes. That website is fake. When the site is accessed, a rogue anti-virus software attempts to install. You can read an article about it [http://blogs.pcmag.com/securitywatch/2010/07/fake_firefox_flash_update_is_r.php here.] Report the page by going to Help | Report Web Forgery. I will also let the people who are looking into this scam know about this link.

  • I do not want the Firefox update page to load. I want only the Home page to load.

When i first access the internet through Firefox, I get both the Firefox update page and my
requested Home page. I am unable to only get the Homepage even though this is the
    setting in my control panel.
Basically i am getting two tabs at startup and only want the one.

  • A website is posing as Firefox update site, forces you to download a probably malicious fake firefox-update.exe

    The site
    http:// firefox.perl .sh/
is posing as a firefox update site, and tries to get you to run an executable (firefox-update.exe)

'''I had something similar happen to me a couple of days ago but the page was what looked like a 'Firefox Reported Attack Site' page!'''
I went to Google and searched for 'Mystical pictures of London'>clicked 'Images' and on the first page of Google Images there was a picture that was out of place and lets say a little explicit.
I couldn't make it out properly so clicked on the Pic. That's when i got redirected to what looked like the Firefox Reported Attack Site page, but it had a 'Download Updates' tab instead of the usual 'Get me out of Here' tab. I then got a Prompt saying:
'The Website has been blocked based on your security preferences.
Click 'OK' to download and install firefox updates.
I clicked 'ok' knowing i would then get the prompt to save the file, so i could have a better look at what it was!
I then took a screenshot of the pop up prompt and clicked cancel.
Then run a full scan with Malwarebytes
and it found a 'Rough Installer' Virus!
Now i need to find a way of reporting this!?
(Leaving a space or spaces in the links)
The link on the Pic said:
    mysticalparty. png
    On the prompt it said:
    You have chosen to open
    firefox_update_2011. exe
    Which is a: Binary File
from: http:// dl. av2011. co. cc
I have also saved the Log from my MBAM scan.
I hope i have not broken any rules putting the info up here, but i'm no Techno Wizz...I just don't want anyone else to make the same mistake as me and want this site Reported and closed down!
Any Help or Advise would be Great!

  • I tried to load the new firefox, it won't load onto my computer (mac osx) but it also erased the old firefox. Help!

A window came up saying I needed the new firefox. When I tried to load it the window said I couldn't but to click for the most updated firefox. A dmg loaded, asked if I wanted to replace the old firefox, which I assumed I did. Now I have no firefox at all and can't get back to the older version that was working.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • If i have to close Firefox after attempting to load a page locks the machine up, what setting can i change where it will not automatically try to reload the page when i restard the browser?

Say i try to open a pdf link for example (although not limited to) and Firefox stops responding; if i close the browser and open it again, it will attempt to reload the same page that just locked it up. How do i turn this off? I get the "Well, this is embarrassing." error fairly often (after 'end task'-ing twice) :/
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week

What page crashes Firefox? On the "Well, this is embarrassing." page you could choose to restore all pages except for this "bad" one.
If I knew what page it is, maybe, I could help more.
    You can also
    Help->Report Broken Website...
Besides, you can also update Java.
If the problem is caused by JavaScript, you could install [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 NoScript].
    <u></u><u></u><u></u><u></u><u></u>
To change what pages are opened on each start-up/restart (whether a crash occurred or not), you can go to
Tools->Options->General->Homepage->You can change which page to use on start-up.

  • Most recent Firefox update won't load Mobileme mail, contacts, calendar, etc. work.

I have used Firefox for years on a windows box to access Mobileme. Suddenly, after the latest update, I can't get the mail. I get a blank screen that says "loading mail" i (iin a smaller font than the usual notice), but nothing happens and the lower right status bar says "Done". Contacts, and calendar work. Tried Apple support and they had me clear history and cache on Firefox adn then reinstall it. But is still does not work.

This only seems to happen with the "new improved" version of Firefox.
Older version still works just fine.
    Please fix

  • I think I downloaded a fake Firefox update from supportfirefox.perl.sh - ever since I have had I/E popups and now audio playing with no programs running. What do I do?

I use the Firefox Google as my homepage. I searched for something and it went to the "you need to update your firefox" so I did...then I realized that it wasn't processing the update the way a normal update from Firefox would. Ever since then, I have had Internet Explorer PopUps and now I have audio running even though there is no program for it to be running on...like a webpage running in the background.

Do a full scan with your Anti-Virus application.
Then do scans with different Malware applications.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. '''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware.)''''' They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
''Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.''

  • Fake firefox update infected my PC with virus.

its blocking my anti-virus software from scanning. i've tried system restore, tried downloading another anti-virus program but nothing works.
    how do i remove it?
here is the link i got the virus from:
http :// www .cuvce .com /download/install.php?browser=Firefox&id=3518780938&redirect=http %3A// home. mcafee. com/Root/Campaign.aspx%3Fcid%3D70294%26ss%3D0%26rid%3D20%26ths%3D%26trj%3D%26vir%3D%26pup%3D%26virc%3D%26trjc%3D%26pupc%3D%26webd%3D%26web%3D

Seems that you may not be alone and that the site may also have targeted other browsers with fake offers see http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=620fcf39daabc04a&hl=en

  • Could I download a disguised virus in a fake Firefox update? Ever since the last upgrade none of my .exe files will run. The version number of the upgrade was lower than the latest version. My computer is in real trouble!

I deleted the "upgraded" version and tried to reload the latest version from Firefox website. I could download it but could not run it. Computer asks for an application to run the file with, and there is none. Also, all of my system applications now no longer respond.

That does sound suspicious. You may want to run some supplemental scans. These two tools are highly regarded:
    Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
    SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/
If your system is clean of malware, you could completely remove all versions of Firefox and install again.
First, I strongly recommend backing up your Firefox settings for future recovery. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Get the latest installer from http://www.mozilla.com/

  • Update will not load on my computer

I tried to load logic 8.0.1 into my Imac but before IT! determined that this program could not be used in my computer I have the logic 8 pro in and working already why would I be denied updates that are recommended for my system from my software update.

Ok. I reloaded os 10.4.11 combo. apparently, my computer doesn't recognize 10.4.11 as being higher than 10.4.9 which is at least what you need. I'm two operating systems over what is required. the message reads "your current os is not supported please update to 10.4.9 or higher.

  • How can we cancel Firefox attempts to load new version of Firefox or successfully load it

Firefox is attempting to load the new version of Firefox and keeps failing, with this message showing. "Updates can`t be installed, make sure no other copies of firefox are running on computer then restart. When you X out or click on OK, it tries again and keeps repeating this cycle, not letting us connet to the internet. How can we cancel the update attempts or successfully load the new version so we can access the internet sgain

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
