A Family's Music

I shared my iTunes music folder using SharePoints and set up something to automatically "re-attach" that share on my wife's PowerBook every time she logs on. I also pointed her iTunes music folder to this share. All of this works.
The frustrating part is that when I add new music to our library, her iTunes doesn't see it in her normal "music" node. She only sees the new music when she clicks on the icon that goes to my shared music, which of course means she can't drag the songs on to her own playlists.
We are one family. We purchase music together. All of this is on a closed, secure network. Somebody PLEASE tell me how to get this working. It seems rediculous that it's this difficult for a family to listen to their music that they purchased with their hard-earned money.

If you don't have an ipod the only thing that I can think of is to burn a cd for the music you want from your shared music and then put it back on your itunes. That should put it in the normal music library...
If you do have a ipod then you could put the music on your ipod and then create your playlist through your ipod, however that playlist would only be used through your ipod or when your ipod is connected to your computer.
I hope I helped. Good Luck! Payton14

  • Family Sharing Music w/ Match & 2 Apple IDs

I set up my Family Sharing and, ran Match successfully through Itunes to put all my music on the cloud (it took a few tries but all three steps completed for 2791 songs). When I try to access my music from the ID's I have varying results. On the devices with the same ID as the original account it appears all the songs are downloadable (just checked a few). But when I try accessing the music from my other ID it is totally random and only shows 247 of the songs available, most of which won't download anyway. I'll have some songs from an album make it over and others that won't. It doesn't appear to be related to whether or not I purchased them on Itunes or ripped them from my original CDs as I've seen some songs that made it across and others that didn't in both online purchases as well as original CDs. I ran Match again and it completed fine but no improvement on the itunes or music app end.
    Thoughts....

    Hi,
You cannot use iTunes match as part of Family Sharing.

    Apps that aren't shareable
If you're on an Apple TV, you can't access shared music."

  • Family Sharing: Music, Photos + more won't share

    Hi!
I've searched through the discussion here and this seems to be a really common problem. But I'm hoping someone can offer assistance! Right now I have a mac book air (under my name) and an Iphone 5S both registered to my Apple ID. I'm the "organizer" and am family sharing with my boyfriend who has an iPad registered to his Apple ID. I really wanted to family share not for the apps (I only download free apps) but so we could share our music / movies/ and photos . But when I set everything up nothing is showing up on the iPad. I can't figure it out! My Mac Book and iphone are configured to family sharing and so is the ipad. I've tried re-starting everything, and inputting our information into icloud numerous times. If anyone could offer any assistance I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks!

  • Family Sharing music issue

I have an iPhone 6 and a Macbook Pro that are both updated to the latest software versions.  I have family sharing turned on on both and have been able to successful download some music on both devices. There are many songs that I try and download though that are not successful. On my iPhone it just says its unable to download at this time, on my mac it acts like it downloaded and then when I go to play the song it tells me that the computer is not authorized and the box to authorize pops up.  This only happens with certain songs other songs play just fine and my computer has been authorized with my apple id forever.  Please Help!

    Hello Fallik,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact configuration you are describing. Family Sharing is normally used to share content between different accounts from multiple people in the same family. Is the content you are having issues downloading or playing content that was purchased by a different member of your Family Group? If so, you may find the information and steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Family Sharing music download error

I Just set up a family sharing group with my brother, and we can share apps, but when I try to download his music, I receive an error stating the fioe cannot be downloaded. He has the same problem with my music purchases. It's only the music that has this issue. App sharing is working fine. is anyone else experiencing this problem? Please help.

    Howdy mrscaskin,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you recently setup Family Sharing and are seeing an alert when trying to download a past purchase from the iTunes Store. The article linked below will explain the alert you’re seeing and provide information about using Apple IDs with multiple devices.
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID. Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (combined) associated with it, with a maximum of 5 computers at any time. Each computer must also be authorized using the same Apple ID. Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days. You can view which devices or computers are currently associated with your Apple ID, remove unused devices or computers, and view how many days remain before the devices or computers can be associated with a different Apple ID from the Account Information page in iTunes on your computer:
    Open iTunes.
Sign in to your Apple ID by choosing Store > Sign In from the iTunes menu.
Choose Store > View My Account from the iTunes menu.
From the Account Information screen, click Manage Devices.
Next to each device or computer name, you will be able to see when each device or computer was associated with your Apple ID. You will also be able to track how many days remain before your associated devices or computers can be associated with a different Apple ID.
    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot sync Family Share music to my PC's iTunes?

Updated PC and iPhone's iOS to the latest, and my husband and I started utilizing the Family Share feature now available under iCloud. While we both were able to download songs from the other's library to our phones, I cannot seem to see those downloads in my PC's iTunes. I have tried syncing, signing out and signing out, checking for available downloads, etc. Also, oddly, when I plug my phone in to the PC, the new songs show up in the "On This Iphone" tab, but not under music. I know that you can authorize up to 5 computers to have Family Share content on them, I just cannot figure out how. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

    1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
    2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
    3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
    4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

  • New phone, family sharing music all gone

    Hello all,
I just replaced my wife's phone.  We are both on iOS8.  I set up family sharing and I am the organizer.  When I set up her ID on her last phone we went into purchased music, movies, etc. and downloaded them to her phone.  When I replaced her phone today and restored from a iCloud backup, no music or movies are there.  With family sharing will my wife how to re-download music and movies every time she upgrades phones?  Do we have to go back through the long process of weeding though all my purchased albums etc.  I would've thought that once she downloaded everything she wanted once, iCloud would keep it all intact.
    Any info is appreciated!
    Bob

You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If other music is not on your computer or iPod it is gone.

  • Family sharing music who work on different computers

    hi everyone,
here is the question, which will start with a long explaination.
my desktop computer is the "main" computer of the house. i have about 35,000 songs on it in my itunes. everyone in the house (wife & son) uses my music (which is everyone's music) for their entertainment. when we buy music (either online or the physical cd) it's downloaded on my computer and into my itunes. my wife has a few songs on her itunes on her computer and my son is going to get an ipod touch and will start purchasing songs for that on a separate computer. so, we will have 3 computers that will potentially be purchasing different music. in addition to the 3 computers, i am relocating to a different city for work and will be commuting back and forth when i can. my question for the community is, how can we all share our music? since my son hasn't gotten his ipod touch yet and my wife doesn't have anything on her itunes yet (all of her music is on my computer and in my itunes), would it make sense for everyone to share my ID and password and then either email or dropbox purchased music (and imported music) to each other or is there a simpler, easier, better way to do this? i understand that we could share everything if we lived in the same house but since i'll be in a different location, i'm a bit stumped on how to make this work.
any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    brian

There are three ways to address your dilema:
    1) Most expensive and difficult to set up: Media server like the HP EX series ($500) and a VPN (virtual private network) capable router (~$150 to $200). All media goes onto the server. All PC iTunes are set to point to the Media server instead of the default folder on C:\   As new files are added to the media server the iTunes set to point to it will also 'see' the new files.   There are additional setting that have to be made but that's the overview.
    2) Cheapest and easiest to set up: NAS (Network attached storage) (~100 to 300). Like above all media goes onto the NAS. All iTunes are set to point to the NAS instead of the default folder on C:\  The disadvantage of course is that you will not be able to share your stuff or have access to the stuff on the NAS until you come home and resynch everything.
    3) Middle of the road: NAS and a VPN capable router.  The only real disadvantage here is that a NAS is pretty "dumb" and is slower than a media server. Especially if more than one person is using it. They also rely on the router explicitly for security since many do not have an OS to run security software. Some of the more elaborate NAS's do but when you start talking more than $200 I would consider a home media server instead.
    Hope this helps.
P.S. your account and password (iTunes store) will be needed for anyone that wants to use media that you've purchased regardless of which method you go with. The DRM license is stored on each individual computer that accesses it.

  • Same computer, Whole family's music. How do i see only mine, and sync only mine.....

Apple wants us to enjoy our products, Ad they Do not let you seperate your music on itunes, from your families... I think they should come up with a way you only have to see and deal with your music... Not everyone elses in your families, nor run the risk of having another box checked, And having there music on your player....  Seperate accounts, different music... Wish there was a SOLUTION TO THIS AS IT IS VERY UPSETTING.

How to Use Multiple iDevices with One Computer

  • Sharing Music with the rest of the family over iTunes

I have an MBP, with all of my family's music on it. My husband has a PC laptop. I have enabled sharing, so that he can see our music and use his computer with AirTunes to play music over our speakers. However, he is not able to make his own playlists on his computer, and then put those playlists on his iPhone. This is really annoying for him. Plus, he doesn't buy music on iTunes, because then he wouldn't really be able to share it with me.
I would like our music (and photos, too, for that matter) to sit on a server in our home network and everyone to have equal access to them - be able to make their own playlists, etc. Is this possible? Would getting a Mac Mini and putting the music on it work? Anyone have experience like this?
Reading these forums, this kind of question seems to be a common issue. Apple, are you developing some kind of family media center?

I too am attempting to coble together a "whole house" music library.
Here is what I have had moderate success with.
I use an Airport Extreme Router and have a USB hard drive plugged directly into it. The Airport Extreme allows that drive to be used as a "Network" drive that can be setup to be accessed by any of your computers that use that router.
Next, I moved my iTunes music folder to that hard drive.
Finally, you go into iTunes preferences and tell it that you want to use the iTunes Music folder that is located on your "Networked" drive.
This works pretty good but it's not bullet proof. I currently have 2 Macs that access this library and I'm pretty sure my wife's PC could access it as well for her copy of iTunes but she hasn't taken the time to sit down and figure out the settings.
So far, the main failure point is that the iTunes software seems to randomly decide it is going to reset which music folder it is going to access and you have to go back into the preferences and tell it (again!) to use the folder on the network drive. This is especially annoying with my Macbook. It accesses the router wirelessly and EVERY time I close the Macbook it resets which folder it want to access.

  • Best Way to Manage iTunes Match for Family?

So what's going to be the best way to handle iTunes Match with multiple iThing users in the family? I've got an iPhone (with an associated AppleID), my wife has an iPhone (with her own AppleID) and is getting an iPad for Christmas. The kids both have hand-me-down previous generation iPhones (currently set to Airplane mode for use as iPods, but perhaps with their own AppleIDs in the future).
All of our music (about 10,000 songs) is ripped and stored in iTunes, under my AppleID, but I'd like for all family members to be able to access the family's music collection. How am I supposed to handle this? Do I have to associate all of the iThings with my AppleID? If so, what are the other consequences of that going to be?

Mine is still uploading/matching; so far, I am able to see the song list with the little cloud icon indicating (I guess) that that song is available on Match. I can also see the same list on another computer running iTunes and logged into Match.
However, I can't figure out how to access the service from my iPhone. Never mind; just found the "Use iTunes Match" option in System Settings. Signed in, agreed to the "your music will be replaced" warning....and nothing happens. I'm going to assume for the time being that it's because my library isn't finished updating.

  • Sharing iTunes for family members

I share Itunes with my family and music is all just one big list of all of ours. I can surely make my own library but don't know how.
    Thank you,
    Gerard

Make a couple of playlists that contain just your music. You don't say whether or not you have an iPod, but if you do, you can set your iPod preferences to sync only your playlists.

  • How to configure iCloud for a family

WIth the move from MobileMe to iCloud, I am challenged with how to best configure multiple Apple ID's, Mobile Me legacy accounts, and iCloud accounts for a family of four.
    Intentions:
    - Have the ability to unify family purchased music, movies, apps, as well as photos into one place
    - All family members have the ability to access above media library
    - Share this media in a way that is low maintenance and more secure than sharing with friends
    Pre-iCloud:
    - A single Apple ID ([email protected]) that I use for Apple store purchasing, this community, etc.
    - A single MobileMe account ([email protected]) that until now I have used on all iOS and Mac devices INCLUDING MY WIFE AND KIDS (oops?)
    Since iCloud:
    - Setup the [email protected] as an iCloud account (had no legacy data)
    - Migrated [email protected] from MobileMe to iCloud account
    - Setup [email protected] as a new iCloud account
    - Setup [email protected] as a new iCloud account
    - Setup [email protected] as a new iCloud account
The trouble is, I have no way to 'link' [email protected], wife@, boy@, and girl@ to do any sharing that [email protected] or [email protected] couldn't also access.
What's the "Apple way" of setting up a family in iCloud?

For this very reason, I switched my family calendars over to Google several months ago.  I have a family of 4 as well and my children are fairly young, so I wanted them to be able to see my calendar without risk of them accidentally deleting something from it.  I was able to set up a separate account for each family member and then "delegate" calendar permissions to other family members.  My wife and I can update all four calendars.  My children can each update their own calendar, and can see the other calendars, but can't update them.  None of the calendars are visible to the public.
I hope this helps you with that one issue.  I wish I could answer all of your questions, but I can't.  I'm struggling with how to best manage a family of four in this new environment myself and will keep an eye on your thread here in hopes of finding answers to my own questions.  I also started my own thread before finding yours.  I'll link to it in case any helpful information turns up there:

unfortunately you can't separate any videos (u add to ur phone by not using nokia video manager) and images in the gallery. the best u can do is create albums in the gallery.
In the video centre u can seperate the videos in 'my videos' by creating new folders. i didn't clearly understand ur question so i hope this helps
