A fatal error has occured : Adobe Captivate 5.5

Hi everyone,
I am currently working on a simulation project on Captivate 5.5 and I finished it. But when I decided to open it again, it just crashed saying this :
I noticed that every textcaption are empty, it's probably an error linked to that, but I still don't really understand what happened and I could not publish it before this error occured...baah...
I really need some help for this because it is not the first time that I see this (already lost more than 30hours of work because of this error...)
Usually, when this error shows up, i recreate the project and it works fine, but this time, doing it twice is just a huge lost of time...
I even enabled back up, and saved it in different versions while I was creating the project in case of this error happens, but every single saved/backup files has this same error...
Any working advices are welcome.
Justin

Hi Per, Rod,
Have been following this thread since the start, and 'biting my tongue' not to jump in, but since the convo is 'closed' now, will add my opinion about tools.
BTW Per Rod lives in Australia, not in the US and I'm from Belgium. You seem to have a Scandinavian name, although your surname sounds even Dutch (my mother tongue)
The choice of tools depend a lot on the goals. Being just a teacher, while Rod is a developer, my view on teaching has changed a lot in my career. And when I was looking for a tool to help me for realising my dream: personalising learning assets, pushing students to take responsability for their learning, make them more active and collaborative I have chosen for Captivate some years ago over other tools. The tweaking possibilities, the way I could apply interactivity and the ease for creation of software trainings/simulations were at that point my reason. And I use Camtasia to create demonstrations, but demonstrations do not really fit in my present 'philosophy', so they will be used as FMR inside Captivate or to show more complex techniques where Captivate with its more limited FMR fails. I do use Lectora for more theoretical courses, combined with Captivate clips. I never used Articulate however, because it is based on presentations which I do not consider a good starting point in my view. Captivate is not easy, if you want to use its full power, compared with Camtasia, but find it worthwhile because I can use it for all kinds of eLearning assets, which up till now (do not yet include the more recent released ZebraZapps or the future Storyline) I couldn't find in concurrent tools. Something that hasn't be mentioned is the integration possibilities of the eLearning Suite which makes adapting assets (graphical in PS, audio in AU and animations in FL) easier.
Will certainly explore ZebraZapps and Storyline as well, as usual what I tried to convey here, can easily change in the future.

I was trying to capture a simulation when a pop-up window came with this error:
"A fatal error has occurred and the application is being terminated. Adobe Captivate has tried to save all your work in the respective project folders as ".cpbackup" files. Please restart Adobe Captivate."
I tried every possible solution but i am getting the same error. Even now, i am not able to open a blank project. I cleared Preferences and Cache, Restarted the system, uninstalled and re-installed captivate but the error occurs.
Please help.

Having admin rights is not the same as 'Run Captivate as administrator'. For the last, right-click on the start icon for Captivate and check 'Run as administrator'. Or click on Advanced, where you can check the option to always run as administrator.
Another possibility could be a corrupt font somewhere. I forgot to ask which version you are using (exact number).

• Fatal Error has occured and the application is being terminated

It seems that Captivate is eating my projects.  I've started my second project (after completing my first without any errors) and I'm constintly getting corrupted files.  It set me back at least a few hours worth of work.  So I started creating backup files every 10mins, regardless of how much work i've done.  Everything was going fine, until I took an hour break and went to resume my work.
When I try to open my file I get the following pop up message when trying to open my file: "Adobe Captivate - A fatal error has occured and the application is being terminated. Adobe Captivate has tried to save all your work in the respective project folder as .cpbackup files.  Please restart Adobe Captivate."
I can click on the program workspace and not click ok on the error message to keep the file open.  I see my slides and objects, but all the text is missing.
I'm using Captivate 5.5 and windows 7 64.  Within Captivate, I'm using standard objects with importing MP3 audio files and some Photoshop images.  I have a total of 4 slides with 1 being 3.5mins long and the rest are less than 1min.
When I first started having this problem, I thought maybe the variable files were corrupte so I deleted the Users/name/appdata/local/adobe/Captivate5.5 directory to see if that was the issue.  That was before this last stint of errors.
I tried opening a backup that was like 10 saves ago, but it displays the same message.
I'm not sure what to do next.

We have the exact same problem.Renaming the backup file per this post http://forums.adobe.com/message/4055726 didn't work. I can open the file and see the text boxes even though they're now showing as empty. Is there any way to recover the file?
Yes, we were using a network drive but now we've switched to locally stored content.

• Tecra A9 - Power Saver crashes - fatal error has occured code: 0x2

Hi,
today, when I switched on my computer the power saver began to crash.
I restarted the computer several times and the result always is - A fatal error has occured. This program will be terminated. code: 0x2.
This error pops out even when I try to reinstall the application.
May be this has something to do with the service pack 3 I installed couple a days ago.
Anyone has an idea ?
Martin Vassilev.

I saw this error long time ago with WXP. In my opinion it has nothing to do with SP3.
My experience says you will not be able to fix this. There is something wrong in registry entries and reinstallation will not help at all.
Only one method can help, the most radical one, new OS installation using recovery media.

• A Fatal Error Has Occured - Captivate 6

Hi there, I have seen some threads on different error issues of Captivate, but mine is worse.
Since the Captivate 4 installed in my office PC, it never ran smooth. Our IT purchased version 6 for PC with hope to improve performance. But since day one, it has never worked.
First, it refused to boot, because the folder 'My Adobe Captivate Projects' was set to be installed in 'user's documents' folder, as by default. There wasn't much space in that folder because our company PC was set to limit the users' personal space, and I wasn't able to ask it to install in another folder (such as C drive, which would solve my problem). This folder wasn't installed at first. My Captivate opens then quits instantly. Our IT came and manually copied the 'My Adobe Captivate Projects\Layouts' folder from another computer which has it installed. Now I have one file named White.cptm in the folder named 'My Adobe Captivate Projects\Layouts\6_0\en_US'. That's the only Captivate file I have under Documents.
After adding the 'My Adobe Captivate Projects' folder, it can be opened. But as soon as I set to 'capture', it quits with fatal error message within 6 seconds into capturing. The temp folder, the export folder and cache all set to D drive (local drive). I can not open someone else's project files, I can not record, or any other operations.
Our IT came in again, we did a major clean up of all temp files, cache, etc... Still no luck, same fatal error. The message look like this (classical, like many users')
Could anyone tell me where has gone wrong? How can I ask Captivate to NOT READ FROM MY DOCUMENT FOLDER, instead I move everything to C drive (where rest of Captivate programme files are located)? Or there is a problem somewhere else?
I would be very greatful if someone can give a hint...!
OS: Windows 7 Enterprise. Intel Celeron 2.5GHz. Ram 8GB.

Thanks very much for your speedy answer! I tried hard to change it without any result, so I expected it could not be done...
Since I cleaned up my personal space just for Captivate, I will not store anything in my document, to make space. Now technically there is enough space to work with.
I have already set my preference settings to export/save/cache/whatsoever into D drive. It was the first tihng I attempted. I think the problem lays deeper though.
Now when I open the programe, it refuses to show me more than the welcome screen.
I can click 'blank project', then click on one of the default values, then OK. Nothing happens, I am back at welcome screen.
The only button actually can perform is the capture (software stimulation). If I start capture, it will show me fatal error instantly.
Everytime I open it, I would get stuck in one of the steps, today here, tomorrow there...I dont think I can have IT upgraded it very soon. So I try to solve this problem in the meantime... I will ask them to make it Admin for me, and see how it goes.
Do you know if there could be other things I could try?
Thanks a million.

• A fatal error has occured while updating your device's software

I have a problem I hope you guys can help me.
Blackberry Model: 8820
Device Software version: 4.5.0.55
Desktop Software version: 4.7.0.37
Carrier: Singapore Telecom Mobile Pte Ltd(https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/browseSoftware.do)
Everytime I start up my desktop software, it would prompt me that there are newer versions for some of the applications in my blackberry such as my browser, brickbreaker etc. So I followed through their instructions to install these updates. When it reached step 3/11, an error would occur while it say it was trying to turn on my radio
Here's the screenshot of the error:

But I do observed that @ task 1/11, it switched off my radio. @ task 3/11 it tried to switch back on again. thats when the error occured.
when I unplugged my device after the error, I saw that my mobile connection was off and my blackberry had to re-connect again. I do admit that my area has pretty bad reception, but that cant be the problem right?
On top of that, maybe I also like to pop another 2 questions:
1) Why is it I cant set up my email? I followed the instructions here:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/blackberry101/setup.jsp#tab_tab_email
but my setup wizard dont have the option to select "I want to create or add an email address"
I only gives me the option of the enterprise mail
2) I tried to browse to to te blackberry website using my blackberry, but its says my device is not supported. Any way to solve this?

• Error Message:  Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premier Pro to shut down.

Hi. I'm having another serious problem with CS4 (the version that comes with CS5 when you don't have 64 bit capability. I just finished a project, had saved it, and then had switched over to Adobe Encoder to create a finished flash video (which worked perfectly). I shut down CS4, went home, tried to restart the main project to create a video from the same project (wanted to make an mpeg version as well) and got the following error message:
Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premier Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project. Then the system shuts down.
Not only can I not open the project I was working on, I cannot open any of my prior projects without receiving the same error.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this issue and how to resolve it?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
By the way, is everyone else having the same amount of problems with this software? I've never had any software that has had so many problems from the beginning. My opinion of this software and Adobe in general has gone down substantially.

Hi guys; I thought I would share my experience and how I managed to fix this problem. It might help someone.
In my case I kept receiving this message; eventually after re-launching Premiere, I actually paid close attention to the "software loading" information and saw that it got stuck on my installed "Colorista ii" which is a colour grading software.
Now the red bulb came on my head ping!
I recently just upgraded my Mac to the OS X Yosemite & that affected pretty much any non-updated application, which in my case was that and many more of the Red Giant Pacakge; so I searched for the upgrade via Red giant Link, and low and behold I found it and did so. Immediately everything loaded up perfectly fine.. and now can't even do the work, cos I'm so exhausted from an 'almost heartattack'; so going to sleep and commence later in the day I guess..
Now, you might probably want to check if any application on your system needs upgrading to whatever is the operating system on your Mac or PC at this very time. It might help.
Always back-up.
I hope I helped someone :-)

There is an error that says when I am open my project: 'Sorry a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project'. What is the solution? (mac)

This happens to me all the time too. When I attempt to reopen, it makes a "copy of" my project. This is frustrating and happiness often.
