A few bad files cause entire Media Import to Fail

When I point my fresh install of PE9 at my MY PICTURES folder, it seems to be importing my thousands of pictures just fine. Then at around 94% it says IMPORT FAILED and gives me a list of roughly 20 pictures that it couldn't import "The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the organizer". When I click past that screen I see that NONE of my pictures were imported. Not a single one. If I bring up folder view and manually select a single sub folder for import, it works. But I have hundreds of folders, so would rather have it simply import my whole folder and subfolders.
Any ideas as to why a few bad pics spoil the entire import?

Again, I'm guessing: it is possible that newer versions of Adobe products are more strict to adhere to PDF standards.
I have also tried to open your file using Adobe internal beta versions, and I've received the same errors. Meaning that this behavior is here to stay.

Tearing my hair out...
Suddenly, neither root nor users can create files or directories in directories under /home. Attempting to do so gets: Error -51 in Finder, "Bad file descriptor" from command line, and "Invalid file handle" via SMB.
However, files and dirs can be: read, edited, moved, and occasionally copied. Rebooting made no difference.
Anyone have a clue on where to start on this?

Indeed. This whole episode has exposed rather woeful lack of robustness on the part of the X Server and XRAID... various things failing and server hanging completely as a result of a few bad files on disk.. with lack of useful feedback as to what was happening.
Best I can tell, we had reached the stage where the next available disk location for directory or file was bad... blocking any further additions.
I've embarked on the process of copying everything off, remove crash-provoking files, replace one bad drive (hot swap didn't work), erase all, perform surface conditioning (bad-block finding) procedure, and maybe later this century will be copying all files back.
Looks to me like the bad block finding procedure is finding a few bad blocks on the supposedly good drives... presumably will isolate those, but maybe we need to get more new drives.

What colour profile is the shot?
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Adobe not allowing import of XML file captured from Media Express through Black Magic capture card

These are not XML from Final Cut. They are files saved from Media Express, a Black magic design program used for Capturing.

You did not steal my thunder. You asked for advice, I provided advice. I assumed that since you nor the "support team" could find your files that you did not have any backup. You should have told us you do regular backups. We have no way to know otherwise unless you tell us.

From your post I understand you're wanting to move iMovie project and event data to another drive. I found the following information in the iMovie help that answers your question.
Copy or move projects, events, or clips between libraries or storage devices
Connect a storage device that contains the target library to your Mac, or copy the target library to your Mac.
Choose File > Open Library, and choose an option from the submenu.You can choose from recently opened libraries, locate an existing library on your Mac, or create a new library.The selected library is opened in the Libraries list, with the first event selected and its contents displayed in the browser.
In the Libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.
In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.Tip: To select multiple clips or projects in the same library, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
Do one of the following:
To move items between events or libraries: Drag the clip or project to another event or library.
To copy items between events or libraries: Option-drag the clip or project to another event or library by first starting to drag and then holding down the Option key as you drag.

Why can't i import AVCHD files via the Media browser?

Why can't i import AVCHD files via the Media browser ? (Right click on the AVCHD file and imported, got the "format not supported" message.) I can import through the File-Import way ( I can get down tot he BDMV folder and mts files) but read using the Media Browser is the preferred way.

No you need the private folder. This will open in the Browser.
Dont open just click.

I wiped my drive clean and reinstalled osx. I have the time machine harddrive from my previous osx. I really just want to retrieve a few folders and individual files, not entirely restore the system to what it was. Any way to make time machine pick up where it left off in terms of backups?

no. this is a new install and it will make a full new backup. no way around that.

Can I delete a media cache file that has caused my backup program to fail?

There are 2 Adobe Premere files that are located under App Date, Media Cache files that are causing my backup program to fail. These files were created in August of 2010 and have been backed up successfully many times. However as of Dec 2011 the backup program has failed to complete and the problem has been traced to these two files. I have no idea what the files do but deleting them would be good if it isn't going to affect my Photoshop Elements or premere Elements or my picture files and their location. It appears that the files are tiny clips from music that I may have opened when creating a movie with music to go with the slides. The actual clip of music does not seem to appear in any of the movies I created, which is a bit baffeling. I'd appreciate any help on this. Thank you.

Can you share the name and path of the files?
Are you talking about Mediadatabase.db3 file present at: application data\adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0Locale\en_US? If yes, you can delete this file. When you launch Photoshop Elements the next time, this file will automatically get created for you.

Bad item limit when bulk importing pst-files

Hi,
Im about to to bulkimport pst-files into exchange 2010 and I know that some of the pst files have corrupt items i dont want the import to fail. How do I configure the -baditemlimit when i bulkimport pstfiles? Do I just write -baditemlimt after
the powershell command as you do on an single pst/mailbox import? Need suggestions.

Have a look on the Arch bugtracker and see if it has been logged. If it hasn't, and hasn't been accepted upstream, you could open a report there: it's more likely a developer will see it there...

Bad File Descriptor ERROR

Hi Friends,
Here is my scenario:
while (INFINITE_LOOP) {
     1. Create eraser.db DB with enabling environment & no transaction in dir: /DB_DIR
     2. Create expire.db DB without enabling environment & no transaction in same dir: /DB_DIR
     3. Perform add - remove record operations on both dbs.
     3. Close both dbs & environment
     4. Remove entire directory : /DB_DIR (using posix rmdir & unlink apis)
     5. sleep for 2 mins. (This is for stress testing... actual sleep value is 24 hrs)
This while loop works for few iterations. But after few iterations I start getting below errors:
seek: 0: (0 * 4096) + 0: Bad file descriptor
eraser.db: write failed for page 0
eraser.db: unable to flush page: 0
seek: 4096: (1 * 4096) + 0: Bad file descriptor
eraser.db: write failed for page 1
eraser.db: unable to flush page: 1
seek: 8192: (2 * 4096) + 0: Bad file descriptor
eraser.db: write failed for page 2
eraser.db: unable to flush page: 2
Once these errors start occuring. All the db operations start failing for all the following iterations.
Now I have to stop my program & restart, then only db starts working as expected.
Kindly suggest the root cause of the problem.

The above mentioned issues was not related to BDB. Finally I found "opened once, but closed twice" file descriptor issue in my multi threaded code.In our code a socket descriptor was getting closed twice. After few iterations of running, this problem was unintentionally leading to closing of one of the internal file descriptor of BDB. Once I fixed that problem. BDB started working as expected.
For those who are unfamiliar to closing twice issue in multi threaded code read below:
foo ()
    fd = open();
    // some processing.
    close (fd);
    // some processing.
    close (fd);
The above code will work smoothly for a single threaded application. But in our case of multithreading, if a thread "X" call open(), when thread "Y" is in between the two close() calls, then in that case, thread "X" will get the same fd for open which thread "Y" was using (since open always return the smallest unused descriptor). File descriptors are shared by all the threads. So when thread "Y" carries out its second close(), it actually closes the file descriptor of thread "X", which was valid & in use.
This is what precisely happening with my code.
TIP: Whenever your multi threaded code, starts giving BDB errors like "Bad file descriptor" first check if there is a place in code where you are "opening once but closing twice" any file descriptor.

I downloaded a bad file. How do I get rid of it?

I downloaded a program which was supposed to provide subtitles to un-subtitled torrents. It was a bad file since it has screwed up my computer. I mean in a way that it shows pop-up ads in places that should not have pop-up ads (for example, Facebook, Netflix, shopping sites, and anywhere else), sometimes an ad will pop up in another tab if I click on something unsuspecting, and it also turns un-linked words into links (but I haven't clicked on them ever). I've tried throwing away the program in the trash and I've even emptied my trash but it's done nothing. I figured looking for the files to the program and throwing them out will get rid of them. The thing is, I don't wanna throw out files that I need and I don't even know where to look for the files to the program to trash them. I'm not an expert in knowing what files this program has and what files my computer needs.
I currently have the latest OS X (Mavericks) installed. I've known new OS X to erase old bad stuff and basically start fresh. Should I wait until Yosemite comes out to think about doing anything? Would a cleaning program even get rid of it? I've had it for 2 weeks and it's driving me nuts.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.

Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine item from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
