A Few Boot Camp Issues

I just set up a new Boot Camp partition (XP SP2), didn't have these issues previously:
1. When I get to the desktop I get a window asking me to insert the CD labeled "iSight Installation Disk #1". Not sure why and don't really care if iSight works or not under Boot Camp as I barely use it anyway.
2. The keys illuminate when the laptop boots up, is there any way to keep that from happening or do I have to manually shut if off every time?
3. The num lock is switched on when I boot to Windows, how can I have it shut off by default?

Windows 7 and boot camp issue

On an iMac a1224 I installed windows 7 then boot camp from the os disc. Bootcamp version 2.1 was installed. The current installation and set up guide suggested updating bootcamp to 3.1 however that particular update requires version 3.0. That being said, is it necessary for me to update my version 2.1?

You need Snow Leopard w. 10.6.x to get 3.0.
If it works and no issues fine though probably the first time I have read someone did.
BC 2.2 was more about XP and some support for Vista.

Windows 7 with Boot Camp issues

Hi,
I have a Macbook early 2008 model, with 10.5, which apparently has boot camp 2.0 installed on it. Despite this, I managed to install Windows 7 64-bit on it, without issue, until I tried to install all the bootcamp drivers for stuff like the trackpad and the function buttons. It turns out that the only way to get the drivers for 64-bit windows 7 is by updating to bootcamp 3.1, which you can't do if you have 2.0 (not totally sure about that), because the OS X cd which should install the drivers, doesnt work for windows 7 64-bit. As far as I can see, you can't download the drivers from apple without the cd, and to use the downloads you do have, I would need bootcamp 3.1, which would require purchasing snow leaopard, and completely reinstalling my entire system (which would be an enormous pain). Is there any way around this? Can I download the drivers independently? The only thing I need to be honest is two-finger right clicking, because I don't use windows much, and that is pretty essential...

Hi Pete,
you can buy Snow Leopard for about USD 29 but you don't have to install OSX Snow Leopard in order to install the updated BootCamp Drivers from it.
Since the BootCamp Drivers are on a seperate 'partition' on the OSX DVD (better said the OSX DVD is an OSX/Windows-hybrid disc) you can just install the BootCamp Drivers from it.

Maverick boot camp issues

Hello,
I am relatively new to Apple Products and I have a Mac Book Pro and I recently upgraded it from OX X 10.8.6 and I am now running OS X 10.9.1.
I had been using Boot Camp and running Windows 7. No issues.
When the Mavericks update was completed, everything was running fine on the Apple side, but my boot camp partician and ability to use boot camp is gone.
I now have a 55 GB particioned as disk 04.
When I used the boot camp utility my computer was partioned in a 650/100 GB split.
I am not sure how to proceed at this point.
Is there a way to recover my Win 7paticianed portion, or am I out of luck and I need to start all over. What is this disk 04 I am seeing on disk utitility? Can I erase it or should I?

Finally, I solved the problem by returning to the old system leopard.

Before upgrading to 10.7 regarding Boot Camp issues

I'm running a mid2010 MBP i7, with a Win-7 Boot Camp (BC) partition.
I'd seen that there have been issues with people losing their Boot Camp partition. As in the Lion install would not recognised the BC partition and the drive headers for BC were lost.
I've had prior issues with trying to restore a Boot Camp partition from my Win-7 b/up disk. Effectively, I was unable to restore from b/up and lost my data.
Has this issue been resolved? Yes I do make frequent b/ups of my Mac partition using Time Machine and the native Win-7 b/up software.
Given the choice between losing my data again. to losing my MobileMe account. C-ya Bye Apple!

Boot Camp Issue

Hello everyone.
I have this issue where I am trying to install Windows on my Mac but every time, after about 45 minutes or partitioning I get this message:
"Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
I have 2 issues:
1)I don't know how to back up the disc and...
2)I don't have an extra hard drive to back it up to.
Here's the real kicker. It is already formatted as a "single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume" and here is the picture of my issue:

I have tried using Boot Camp once before and it worked just perfectly, but I had to back out in the middle of the process of installing Windows, but I reopened Boot Camp and erased that partition, so it should be perfect.

Well, I'm very, very grateful. You saved my bacon. I delivered the MacBook Pro on time today because of your tip. Very much obliged.
I also installed MacAffee's Virus package (2006) and struggled to get it upgraded until I finally realized that my Airport Base station and Express units needed an upgrade. After I upgraded and rebooted all of them, my the MacBook Pro was able to join the wireless network just fine.
Do you have any recommendations for a great cloning utility for the PC partition? I'm assuming that my fave, SuperDuper! will not make a FAT32 partition and then clone that drive, so I'm wondering what to do. On the PC side I believe they call this making a "disk image" that one can restore a system with. What's your experience with this kind of thing? I really loathe incremental back-ups that one cannot boot with, and I'm wondering how best to support this computer in the future. I went to PC World and liked the program: Acronis True Image 9.0 Home I'm going to try it out.
The last thing I'm curious about is what the best way to protect the Mac side of the computer from PC viruses and worms. I'm not really up to date on that. Can a PC virus wreck havoc to files on the Mac side if I've used the FAT32 formatting? I thought that would be beneficial format because it would allow me to move files (at least) from the Mac side to the PC side.
Any other good threads I should be following here?

A weird Vista/Boot Camp issue

OK, this one seems backwards to me. My XP Boot Camp installation failed after 4 months of relatively trouble free operation. Parallels started flaking out about a month ago, so I started to use Fusion. Long story short, I blew away the partition and installed Vista Enterprise instead. All seemed to go well, and I successfully set up the Parallels VM using the Boot Camp partition. However, I can no longer boot into Boot Camp Vista. It hangs every time at the dotted progress line (or whatever it's called). I've tried repairs via the Boot Camp install process and have reinstalled the Boot Camp Drivers - to no avail. The strange thing is that I am still able to get into the Vista partition using Parallels. In fact, it works great! What would cause the Boot Camp startup to fail that wouldn't also affect Parallels? Very perplexing.
I used to be a Mac hater, then I softened up and accepted them. Now, I hate PCs and Macs. One is just as frustrating as the other.
Any help would be appreciated.

Ask or look on Parallels forum.
The upgrade to Leopard and BootCamp 2.0 has bitten more than a couple, almost "out of the blue" just like you.
Vista Recovery Console or Environment would be one. Boot from Vista DVD and see if it can repair the partition.
The latest Parallels for Leopard are pretty much "test this for us" in some cases.
There are problems with Fusion 1.1 (beta) along with Leopard, too. I don't like the way Fusion degraded my BootCamp graphics (Nvidia Vista 64-bit) to "generic" and some other issues so I am waiting for these VMs to mature.
Also, I'm guessing that there aren't a lot of people using Enterprise or that have access to it. Business and Ultimate, yes. And Apple doesn't officially support x64 (though it seemed to install better this time around).
Don't beta test or adopt a new OS or anything.
I keep Vista on its own drive and it works quite well (user error: installed Norton SystemWorks).
XP failed. Parallels flaked out. Fusion died an early death. All have some common elements.

Boot Camp Issue/Question.

I have finally come to terms that I am unable to install Windows 7 on this specific Macbook Pro, CD drive is shot and it does not natively boot USBs. I modded the Info.plist file accordingly and was able to at least make it to a "No bootable device found" screen and that's as far as I got on any of my USB drives. With that being said, would it be possible to swap the hard drives with a similar Macbook Pro (same body style and size, different model year) and set it up on the Macbook Pro that has a working CD drive and is also able to boot from USB? (I previously Boot Camped that computer via USB so I can confirm that it works)

I had the same issue with the XP Service Pack 3 installer reporting I needed an additional 4 MB even though I had plenty of free space. Apparently, the fix for that is to get the Boot Camp 2.1 update for XP. http://support.apple.com/downloads/BootCamp_Update_2_1_for_WindowsXP

Macbook Pro Retina Boot Camp Issue

Hi all,
I recently purchased a macbook pro with retina display and installed windows 7 on it with boot camp. Windows 7 on boot camp does not wake on sleep after closing the lid or making it sleep for the second time. I have tried unplugging, pressing any keys but still no success, and eventually have to force shut down my macbook pro. Please let me know if there is anyone who has encountered the same problem and has a solution. Thanks!!

There was someone else that had a problem installing Win 7 in a BC partition on a retina model. The system would hang during the install and give a Win BSOD.
They returned that unit and got another which worked first time installing Win 7.
So it may not be Windows at all but some type of hardware fault with the Retina unit you have.
Just a suggestion.

Can no longer opt boot to Windows; Parallels and Boot Camp issues

So I was reinstalling my Parallels since it wasn't reading my Boot Camp partition correctly and I removed my old boot camp profile in Parallels. I figured this would only affect Parallels. After all, I was going to make a new one since my Parallels wasn't working very well. The removal of the profile seemed painless and it was instantaneous (so I don't think it formatted the partition). I then went to restart, and now my comp won't boot to the partition.
I can no longer view (or access) my files from Windows. I panicked and restored the profile from the trash, but I still can't access the partition. I can't even see Windows from the Start Up disk, but Parallels can detect that I have Windows 7 (even though it won't boot properly).What do I need to do to be able to get my Windows partition back? Do you have any idea whats going on with my comp? Can the removal of a virtual machine profile delete an entire OS in an instant?
Disk Utility says that my partition needs to be repaired, but I don't want to do anything until I get an expert opinion.

Leave your Testdisk display and start a new Terminal Window. Please use the following steps. The 104 sector positive offset is a good sign.
You need to use the following steps. If you see any error messages during the following steps, please stop and post back here with the error message. The following steps have values from your Testdisk output (and you can verify) in Steps 7 and 8.
Rebuild GPT4 using start/end offsets
Sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0
P (print the full list of parts)
D (delete)
4 (part 4)

This will delete and re-write the GPT partition info for /dev/disk0s4.
Rebuild MBR to match the new GPT information thus resetting the Hybrid MBR. Use defaults for other questions (like partition codes). The only values that need modifications are the Boot flags and step 6. Accept all other defaults that Gdisk offers.
Sudo gdisk /dev/disk0
P (Print list of parts)

Y (Good for GRUB question)

Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit boot camp issues...

So here is my problem:
I installed windows 7 ultimate 64-bit on my macbook. The install went great and everything works like a charm except my headphone jack is red, and i have no audio, and no wifi. I installed 3.0 drivers from my Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard disc, and updated to 3.1, and it seems the update fails. This is the third day i have been trying to fix this, and i cant find anything. Apple doesn't even know what to do! I have tried DLing realtek drivers, nvidia drivers, intel chipset drivers, EVERYTHING! I don't know what to do, but i need windows for my new job! Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Yeah i have done that a couple of times. When i navigate through the disk it doesn't even let me run setup.exe, so i installed from bootcamp64.msi. Then after 3.0 installs, i try to update to 3.1 and after the nvidia install, it just quits. When i use my version tracker it says that boot camp is in version 3.0, and it shows an update for 3.1 in software update. Now when i go to uninstall programs, it shows boot camp 3.1 is installed.
As far as the audio, i have tried that as well. If i manually put a driver into that device, it fails on every reboot. It only shows working on Microsoft High Deff Audio Drivers( and it actually dosnt even work, it just glows red on my head phone jack.)
Im stumped.

Boot Camp issues in a new Mac Pro 6 core Westmere

I'm trying to install WinXP SP2 on a drive in bay three of my new Mac Pro (with four internal drives). The boot camp instructions state that a boot camp installation should be done only on a drive in the lowest available numbered bay and that I should remove all the drives in the lower numbered bays in order to do the install. If my OS X system and the boot camp utility are on the hard drive in bay 1 and I'm trying to do an install on a drive in bay 3, this presents a problem. Apple tech support suggested that I swap the drives in bay 1 and 3 prior to the install and then swap them back, which I did. This seemed to work. The startup disk control panel in OS X seems to have no trouble dealing with setting my startup disk to either Mac OS X (in bay 1) or Win XP (in bay 3) after the drives were swapped back. However, I have problems on the windows side. The boot camp control panel in Win XP lets me set Mac OS as the startup disk but I get a permanent black screen at startup requiring me to hold in the power button to shut off the computer and then restart it. Afterwards, I can't start up in OS X unless I hold the option key down at startup and manually pick OS X. I can then reset the startup disk to the OS X in the Mac OS startup disk control panel but this never works from inside XP.
Two questions that I would greatly appreciate answers for:
1. Do you need to install windows on a drive in the lowest available numbered hard drive bay in a Mac Pro?
2. Is the hard drive swap trick I did above confusing the boot camp control panel in XP so that it can't figure how to set Mac OS X (switched back to bay 1) as the startup disk? If the disk swap trick is causing the problem, is there another way to do a boot camp install on a drive that is not in the lowest numbered drive bay?

Support for IE6 is gone. IE9 is coming in beta in Sept. And yes, IE8 can run sites in compatibility mode.
My feeling is those apps that require an old and buggy browser like 6 should be headed for the trash.
XP Mode IS XP in hardware virtualization VM. You may want Windows 7 Pro, for XP Mode but also if you have two physical cpus.
Tech support has been known to give conflicting info on a question, or throw up their hands, and seem really like they need to use Windows first, rather than gain a rep for being clueless and unable to help customers.

Boot camp issues

I realize that this may not be the forum for this, but I don't know where else to post. I was one of the onmac.net early adopters. I just got everything up and running a couple days ago. Then I get this little jem from apple this morning. Well, the install seemed to go very well. After installing the 10.4.6 update, the firmware update, and boot camp, I installed XP SP2. Well, before I installed the apple provided drivers, everything was working great, much better than the onmac.net solution. After installing the drivers however is a different story.
I think the culprit is the video driver, but the minute that I boot into windows, the computer locks and restarts. I tried uninstalling the drivers, but that didn't work, so I'm reinstalling one more time.
I am wondering if there are any other adventurous people out there who have tried and failed, or tried and succeeded with boot camp.
For what it's worth it's a mini core duo, with a viewsonic lcd @ 1440x900.
Also, I can't get into the os selector menu (wireless keyboard)...

Partitioning Issues (Boot Camp issues)

Im having trouble with bootcamp. I partitioned it with not enough space. I looked through the print off and it couldnt do the specified routine to fix it, i need to be able to get my Hard drive back into 1 main drive, deleting the other 2 partitioned drives. i currently have: Macintosh HD (my main driver), Mac OS X (the driver that was supposed to be the windows driver) and Macintosh HD_2 (a test driver that has enough space for the windows). What i need to know is: >How can i get my drivers back into one driver so i can start again? OR!! >How can i get Macintosh HD_2 to become the main partitioned drive.
The error message im getting is: The startup disk cant be partitioned or restored to a single partition.The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.
Please, i need a solution to how i can get rid of this error message

Hey, I have the same problem. But when I go to Disk Utility, and I cant repair dick because its not "clickable". so I verify it, but it shows

Whats this all about? Can anybody help me out ?

Boot Camp issues again

Okay, I'm having trouble with Boot Camp. I found my install discs from my previous post and I'm trying again at Boot Camp but every single time I boot up into Windows installer I just see one partition, just like last time. Now what the ****? I thought Boot Camp was supposed to partition my hard drive? Why is it doing this?
