A few iTune 7 workarounds

There's been a lot of discussion about iTunes 7. Apple definitely need to fix a few bugs. Until then I've compiled a few fixes or should I say things you can try to get around the bugs of itunes 7.
1. Be aware of the fact that only older ipods can revert to 6x. If you have a new ipod (video/nano) your going to have stick with itunes 7 and hope for a fix if you have any problems. Movies can be played on Fifth Generation iPod (iPod with video). You need itunes 7 for movies.
2. From Bradley Price1: How to regress from iTunes 7 to iTunes 6.0.5
a) Make sure you have a copy of the iTunes 6.0.5 installer. If you no longer have one, download it here:
http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=11622&cat=1&platform =osx&method=sa/iTunesSetup.exe
b) Shut down iTunes 7 if it is running
c) Uninstall iTunes 7 via the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
d) Go to your iTunes MUSIC folder (usually C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes). You will see two files called ''iTunes Library'' and ''iTunes Music Library''. These belong to iTunes 7, DELETE them.
NOTE: Take care not to confuse this with the iTunes INSTALLATION folder, which is usually C:\Program Files\iTunes.
e) You will also see a folder called ''Previous iTunes Libraries''. Look inside, there may be several copies depending upon your upgrade history with names like ''iTunes Library 2006-09-12''. Take the most recent one (the last one used by iTunes 6) and COPY it up to the folder C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes. Now RENAME this file back to simply ''iTunes Library''.
NOTE: To copy a file in Windows, right-click the file and choose ''Copy''. Now go to the folder you wish to copy to, right-click in the empty folder space and choose ''Paste''.
NOTE: To rename a file in Windows, select the file and press F2. Now type the name you want and press ENTER.
After this is done, your iTunes MUSIC folder (C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes) should contain the following objects:
The file ''iTunes Library'' that you just copied there and renamed
The folder ''Previous iTunes Libraries''
The folder ''iTunes Music''
f) Now reinstall iTunes 6. All your playlists and ratings will appear as if nothing had happened. And, your Shuffle will work once more.
3. Try this fix... Change QT control panel to 16 bit 41kHz. I call it a fix because it should be 24 bit as far as I'm concerned. I love Apple products! This is a bug as far as I'm concerned. Squash it fast APPLE!
Make sure you restart your iTunes when making the changes in the QuickTime control panel. For XP users. Do the following; start>control panels>other control panels. Select the audio tab in quicktime preferences. Rate:41kHz Size:16 bit
More from gswilder: He kept playing around with the QuickTime settings under windows control panel. I had to increase the sound out rate to get it to work. 44.1 KHZ would not work. I went to 64KHZ and it worked. Then on to 192khz and it worked. I have a Creative Pro EMU1212M sound card. So it may be a sound card specific bug. Depending on soundcard and driver versions, you may have to play around with all the QuickTime settings to find one that works.
You may need to update DirectX. This did not work for me.

Good morning, nic0806,
Unfortunately, the interesting meaty bits are the
ones that you've ...'ed out. But why don't we get
ourselves a full installer log and pass it onto the
Apple Engineers?
1. Open a commnd prompt window. (Start menu -> Run.
Type in ''cmd''. Hit return.)
2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so
that the full pathname of the file is at the command
line prompt.
3. Type in a space, then the following line:
/l*v C:\log.txt
4. Hit return.
5. The installer will create a log file:
C:\log.txt

Solution to registering modules hang for windows users
by: gailj
I had the same problems as some others installing ITunes 7 -it would hang at registering modules and never complete.
The last time I tried it, I brought up the task manager (ctrl + alt + del) and listed everything in order by name. There were about 6 instances of msiexec.exe running. Clicking and ''end task'' one at a time, the third one clicked (in use by system) allowed the process to finish and iTunes is now up and running again.
Hope this helps someone else.

Also if on Windows XP, one clicks on Repeat Off for the playlist, the songs will speed up and go very quickly, almost as if on fast-forward. To undo this, simply uncheck repeat off!

  • Syncing Voice Memos to iTunes - Workaround

Not everyone can sync their voice memos to iTunes, and no one really knows why (or cares).  Here is a workaround.
Part One - Email the Voice Memo to Yourself
    1. Select the voice memos application.
    2. Select the voice memos list (button in lower right hand corner).
    3. Highlight/Select the voice memo to send.
    4. Select the blue Share button (lower left corner).
    5. Select the gray Email button.
    6. Address the email to yourself and select the Send button (upper right hand corner).
Part Two - Save the Voice Memo to Your Computer
This part varies for everyone.  I am going to assume you know how to save files from your email to your computer.
Part Three - Add the Voice Memo to iTunes
    1. Open iTunes.
    2. Select: File / Add File to Library.  Choose the voice memo you downloaded to your computer. Click Open.
Note: the music file will be saved as an 'Unknown Album / Unknown Artist'.
    3. Right-click on the file, choose Get Info.  Choose the Options tab.
    4. Change the Media Kind to Voice Memo (the Media Kind should automatically add a check mark).  Click OK.
    5. Double-click to re-open the file.
    6. Right-click on the name, choose Get Info.  Choose the Info tab.
Note: You now have a chance to re-name the file anything you want.
    7. Use the Name field to re-name your memo.
Part Four - Add a Voice Memo Playlist.
    1. Select: File / New Smart Playlist...
    2. Click on Artist and choose Media Kind from the drop-down list.
    3. Click on Music and choose Voice Memo from the drop-down list. Click OK.
You can now use Voice Memos and iTunes as promised in the Users Guide.

UPDATE - Apparently large files cannot be mailed out.  So far I can verify that a 27 minute memo cannot be mailed.

  • HT1296 i have a load of stuff on my ipad but I can't get it onto my conputer, pressing sync comes up with a message saying it will all be deleted. I've transferred all purchases but this only does the few things I've got from apple (apps and a few itunes)

I own an ipad2 and have loads of music and vids/photos etc on it from an old pc.
I just bought a new pc and wanted to transfer everything to the new pc
I've transferred purchases but this only transfers things bought in the itunes store like apps and a few songs
The rest of the content is still on my ipad.
When I press sync, it warns that it will delete all the content on my ipad and replace with the few things I've managed to import.
How do I transfer all the content to the new pc?

    Similar issues here.
I purchased five movies for download and having nothing but problems getting them downloaded. I keep receiving error messages and the download stops and I have to restart it, just to get another minute worth of download with each restart. Now Apple has my money and I have nothing.

  • A few iTunes songs don't copy

I just got my iPod a few weeks ago, and I have about 600 songs on iTunes so far. I have my iPod on automatic updating, which has been working most of the time.
There are about 3-5 songs (I haven't checked all 600) that didn't copy. They are mp3 files, iTunes plays them, and when my iPod is plugged in, they show up among the iTunes files. When I unplug my iPod, they aren't there.
The only thing I know is that these songs specifically don't have an album listed. The first few songs that I saw with this problem, I made up an album name, and they were suddenly listed. That's bizarre.
    Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

First of all what type of iPod do you have? A Video iPod a nano or an older iPod? Have you tried downloading and installing any iPod updates to it? You can go here and download the latest iPod software updates (2006-03-23 or in other words March 23rd 2006 update) http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ , this might fix your issue and even if it doesn't atleast you'll have the latest new features and all. Make sure you have the latest updates to iTunes as well

  • A Few iTunes

I use a few different operating systems and computers, and I have media on all of them. Each computer I go to, iTunes wants to wipe out what's already on my iPhone and sync with whatever is on the current computer. I find this slightly annoying since I'd like to take media from all of them. I know I should consolidate my library to an external drive or something, but I don't have the time right now.
Is there any way around this or is this how iTunes works?

Great. Well, that's no big deal. It doesn't erase my contacts or pictures though, so that's good (although a little odd). I guess it's still all about the copyrights and the RIAA in the end. They keep fightin' that losing battle...

  • A few iTunes 6 & 5 visual bugs

I also noticed these glitches in iTunes 5, 5.01, and 6, they were not in 4.9 or previous that I can recall.
In the "Get Info" for any file, absolutely no album art shows up in the art section (see link 1) or in the summary tab (see link 2)
Then in the options Tab the ratings stars do not appear, I can change it but I won't know what rating I gave it until I hit OK and it changes the rating in the library. (see link 3)
Yes the windows may look like OSX but I have a visual skin over windows XP in the screen shots.
    1 - http://www.natemc.com/temp/itunesglitches/one.gif
    2 - http://www.natemc.com/temp/itunesglitches/two.gif
    3 - http://www.natemc.com/temp/itunesglitches/three.gif

I've had this skin on for quite some time, longer than I've had iTunes on my computer.
There is a theme dll you swap out that allows unsigned windows themes and then you just install whatever skin you want and it will run as if it were just the XP skin instead of requring more ram hogging applications to run in the background.
here is how to use unsigned themes
    http://www.uneasysilence.com/how-to-use-unsigned-themes-on-windows/
I don't remember where I got the theme from though.

  • A few iTunes Match questions no one is asking

Ok, so if I get iTunes match, and that's how all my music is loaded to my phone, if I go to play all my songs on shuffle, is it going to trip up on me skipping like 5 songs in 3 seconds since it has to find the song and start streaming it? It just seems like having it in the cloud will actually slow it down.
Also, I'm assuming my devices will have to have a constant and GOOD Internet connection CONSTANTLY! So if I'm in a building with no wifi (or just a password lock) and no reception, I'm screwed? No music?
Also how will this work with apps like iMovie that referenda the song files on your device for adding music to a video you're editing?
If I'm on 3G, am I going to be able to listen to my music and do ANYTHING else I want? Or are we going go discover we can't do two things at once, like how we found out you can't talk and use 3G at once?
Is this going to be using data on my data plan? If so, how much? Seems stupid to pay $30 a month for 2GB of data, and to spend that all just on music?
And how badly is this going to kill my battery? ESPECIALLY on 3G? It seems like constantly streaming and downloading is going to kill my battery twice as fast.
And if t does 'download' my music, and if I have my phone filled with my iTunes match music and photos and apps and videos, then I go to listen to a song a already have on the phone, when it goes to download it, if I don't have enough space, will it not let me listen to it? Could I run into a problem of it downloading to many of my songs to where I have to go back and delete my last 10 songs just to make room for more songs I want to listen to now?
These things are bothering me so much and no one is addressing them.

    Limnos
"Potentially all valid issues but as far as I can tell iTunes Match still hasn't been released and Apple doesn't approve of un-announced feature "speculation" on this web site. Unless it is something on Apple.com (in which case you probably would have found it) we can't discuss it here until it has been released."
I thought this has already been released as a beta version for developers to test out. Are you telling me that if it's up for people to test, you're not allowed to talk about it?
and iTunes Match IS on the website. But it doesn't address all these questions!
so I'd say the fact that it is released for testing, the software is out there, they're talking about it on the website, and i'm not speculating anything (i'm asking questions that are real concerns that are not addressed at all on Apple's site), that I should be absolutly fine asking these questions on here.
If anyone out there is testing this iTunes Match, they can simply answer my question. This is in no way speculation, but research for answers to issues that are out there that are not being addressed.

Hi Jack. Lost track of you in the confusion over the weekend.
I take it there is a problem with converting to this bit rate on the new version
Yes, there is. Here's the standard workarounds at the moment. Short of rolling back your iTunes to 10.0.1.22 and your Apple Application Support to 1.3.2 (CoreAudioToolbox.dll is kept in the Apple Application Support program files), there's a few possible workarounds.
    (1) Change your importing prefs to use a different encoding.
    (2) Replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12576816#12576816
    (3) Or, replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a shadow copy of a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12583499&#12583499

  • ITunes has stopped working error message

I WANT TO LISTEN TO MY MUSIC!!
I have spent all morning looking for solutions to this problem! uninstalled everything to to with Apple, reinstalled it all again and still nothing!!
When are Apple going to pull their finger out!
The Error message appears as soon as I click for a CD to be copied. I updated my iTunes this morning to the most recent version and that is when the problem started.
    Can anyone help?, Thankyou

The Error message appears as soon as I click for a CD to be copied. I updated my iTunes this morning to the most recent version and that is when the problem started.
There's a bug with 10.1.0.54, Danni, that is causing "iTunes has stopped working messages" (citing CoreAudioToolbox.dll in the Problem Reports for the error) for some folks when importing CDs with the AAC encoding, adding/converting files to AAC, and in some cases syncing devices (when the convert to 128 kbps AAC option is enabled).
Short of rolling back your iTunes to 10.0.1.22 and your Apple Application Support to 1.3.2 (CoreAudioToolbox.dll is kept in the Apple Application Support program files), there's a few possible workarounds.
    (1) Change your importing prefs to use a different encoding (won't help with the device syncing variation though), and/or disable the convert to 128 kbps AAC when syncing option.
    (2) Replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12576816#12576816
    (3) Or, replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a shadow copy of a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12583499&#12583499
    (4) Or, if no known-good copy of 7.9.3.0 is available and your PC doesn't have a shadow copy of the 7.9.3.0, you can replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a 7.9.3.0 by performing some installation gymnastics with the current (11 am 18 Nov NZ time) version of the Safari 5.0.2 installer, as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12598386&#12598386
NB with (4) if you have a 64-bit version of Vista or 7 ... the Apple Application Support program files are instead located at:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\
(2, 3 and 4 do help with the device-syncing variation.)

there's a bug with 10.1.0.54 that is causing "iTunes has stopped working messages" (citing CoreAudioToolbox.dll in the Problem Reports for the error) for some folks when importing CDs with the AAC encoding, adding/converting files to AAC, and in some cases syncing devices.
Short of rolling back your iTunes to 10.0.1.22 and your Apple Application Support to 1.3.2 (CoreAudioToolbox.dll is kept in the Apple Application Support program files), there's a few possible workarounds.
    (1) Change your importing prefs to use a different encoding (won't help with the device syncing variation though) and/or switching off the option to convert files to 128 kbps AAC when syncing.
    (2) Replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12576816#12576816
    (3) Or, replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a shadow copy of a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12583499&#12583499
(2 and 3 do help with the device-syncing variation.)

  • ITunes 10.5 will not access store

The last 2 upgrades behaved this way requiring a sequential uninstall and a reinstall.  But repeated tries to fix it that way have failed.  Running w7 64 bit and 64 bit iTunes.

I have the exact same issue. In addition to that, I cannot back up my iPod Touch anymore. In the past, uninstalling and reinstalling did the trick, but not this time. I also tried accessing iTunes via iTunesU, deauthorizing and again authorizing the computer, deleting the iTunes preferences xml-files, and a few other workarounds that people suggest on message boards. Nothing worked so far, and proxy or firewall settings are definitely not causing the problem.

  • Itunes crashes during sync

Just about every time I modify playlists and try to sync to either my Touch or Nano I end up spending HOURS trying to determine which new selection causes the sync process to crash. I end up doing binary searches by dividing the playlist in half, then in half again and again until I find the troublemaker, but I must be missing something. There must be a better way.
The problem selection always plays just fine in Itunes on the desktop system.
    What am I stupidly overlooking?
    Thanks!

  • "itunes has stopped working" message when syching iphone

    Need help..
Ever since I installed the update for the apple software on my PC, when I try to sync my iphone 4 on the last step of synching I get a window popping up saying that "itunes has stopped working". Then I get prompted to close the programme.
I run Windows 7, and cannot understand why it does this.
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Not sure what you've seen/tried so far, so I'll run you through my standard advice as of this morning, Marty.
