A Few LR4 Printing Questions

Have a few questions pertaining to the new features in v4:
1. In the past we created layouts with all the page and print settings embedded. Is the recommended workflow now to just create the layout with the page settings and then create a saved print collection with the print settings?
2. If you create a virtual copy and put that through soft proofing and make settings, is the paper profile you used for those settings embedded in the virtual copy?
3. If the paper profile is embedded in your proof copy and you accidently add it to a print collection which has a different profile specified, which profile setting takes precedence (or do you get an error alert)?
Thanks!
Jim

Hi Jim,
1. The collection resulting from saved print helps you with custom package: because it saves the images to go in your custom pages as well. Like a snapshot. Before you had the layout/template and the images still separate to drag them again in ... at least that was all I had achieved previously.
2. If you make a "proof copy" (not just any virtual copy), yes.
3. I remember from another post in beta-forum, no own hands-on experience: You can easily create hurtful contradictions by that. Print collection profile takes precedence, and there is no warning.

  • A few post config questions on new setup

    Hi Group,
Just a few post config questions.
First, how can I confirm my controller is in fact associating properly with an NTP server?  On a typically cisco product, I could just do a 'show ntp associations' or a 'show ntp status'.  I cannot see a way to confirm this on the gui or command line.
Second, on my guest network with web-auth, if one were to choose to not use https for web-auth and instead use unsecure http, would that be possible and if so where in the gui?
    Thanks.

The third field is from a WLC running v7.4 not v7.2.  I usually would install a 3rd party certificate, but what eles you can try is issue this command on from the CLI.  It had issues working with certain code versions, but you might as well give it a try.
    config network web-auth secureweb disable
    Thanks,

  • Image Printing Question

    Hello,
Bottom line summary: How do I use the Media and Quality setting to get a good image?
I have an image printing question for an HP 8600 Office. I am trying to get a decent quality image to print
on regular paper. I gather that I will not get the quality of a photo printer. I gather I'm supposed to use
HP glossy paper. Please read on ...
Images come out grainy (rastery) when embedded from an MSPaint project, and if I use Word. However when I printed just an image from image viewer it came like a photo ... but I can't remember what I did. It definitely is capable of printing better. My cartridges all check out, etc. I did the Print Quality Report ... I sure wish I could get that quality when I print other things.
I tried messing with different settings from the Print - Preference. The Quality (Best, Normal, Draft) doesn't effect the outcome. I tried going into Print - Preference - Media and it makes a difference. I can't figure out which is the best setting for plain paper ... but it's not plain paper. The image rendering algorithm appears to be different for different Media settings. I also tried setting the Advanced Resolution to Maximum DPI. I haven't been totally methodical about this as I was in a rush.
I see that the printer is being "smart", perhaps a little too smart.
    So my question is multipart:
    - Is there documenation on the what the Print - Preference - Media settings do?
    - How do I get it to not use grainy/rastery image method, but use the nicer photo method?
    - Should I print Maximum DPI?
    Thanks,
    - Dave -

Hi @DaveGold , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I hope you had a great holiday!
I see you're looking into photo setup options. I'd like to help!
First I'd recommend this document on Changing Print Settings in Windows 7.  This document should show all the settings you're looking into.
Also, another thing to keep in mind, when you select 'best print quality' and 'photo paper'. It will only be as good as the source image.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Print is 11 x 18 in LR4-Print module & much smaller in CS6 (same print). What is the problem?

I use CS6 on a Mac pro os 10.8.3 & print to an Epson Pro 4900.
If I print an image via LR4 print module the print comes out at 12 X18 in. Recently I have tried that same image via CS6 and the print comes out  at 6 5/8 X 8 1/2 in.
In Print Settings in Printer Setup in the print module of CS6  stats "Super A3 / B 13 X 19 but the printed image dimensions are a little over half of that.
The printer used to print normally in CS6 print file.

I tried  your suggestions without success.
I went back and tried adjusting the "Scale:" percentage in "Scaled Print Size"
The image size in the Image Dialogue box is 11 X 16.5 in.
In the Print Dialogue Window the following info is:
    Printer EpsonStylusPro4900-26A688
    Paper Size Super A / B 13 X 19 in
I then printed out the image after adjusting the Scale percentage which yielded the following results:
At Scale 100%  the print comes out at 6.5 X 8 in
At Scale  200%  the print comes out at 6.5 X 8 in
At Scale  25%  the print comes out at 2.75 X 4.12 in
It appears to me that CS6 is applying an upper size limit but I don't have any idea why.

  • Before I buy: speed and printer questions

I am looking to buy a new TC 500gb version to replace my linksys WRT54G. To upgrade the wireless router as well as start a backup system I have yet to ever initiate.
    Two questions/concerns come up:
#1) After the initial back up to TC I understand there are hourly incremental back ups - Can that time interval be adjusted, and how long does that back up take (I do now add much data/ files to my main Comp usually) also during those incremental back ups does that affect the computer much, such as if I am playing an internet game, will I lag out while it is backing up every hour?
#2) Setting up a printer through usb port to be accessed by my home network. My HP C6180 all in one works fine being seen through the aged, but battle tested linksys, any reason it shouldn't work with the TC?
Thanks for any insights you might have in this regard.
I have cable isp access, My Main Comp is where the cable modem and TC would be, I have a G4, a G5 and a MBP scattered around the house accessing via wireless.

Hi Steven, welcome to the discussions.
After the initial backup (recommend that you use ethernet for this), TC will backup incrementally every hour assuming you will be using Time Machine. There is no way to alter this with Apple software, but a number of users have reported satisfaction with Time Machine Editor, http://timesoftware.free.fr/timemachineeditor/, which will allow you to schedule backups whenever you would like. This might be a good solution if you notice slow downs with other devices during a backup session.
Backups should be relatively quick, but be aware that very small changes in some programs (like Entourage, vmFusion, Parallels) require the entire database to be backed up, not just the small change that might have been made.
The printing question is the most difficult as the boards are busy with users who are having troubles in this regard. Perhaps some other users have used the same HP and can comment. Bear in mind that if your HP is compatible, only the printing function will work through the network. Scanning and other advanced functions are not supported.

  • Just some few Arch Linux questions

Hi, I am new to Arch Linux and am looking for some advice and answers.
    Here are the questions:
    1. Does the update command (I think its called pacman and it updates many things with one command in terminal) update the Arch Linux base, the DE that is installed, the apps that are installed and artwork on Arch Linux?
    2. Is Arch Linux User friendly once installed (When I say user friendly, I mean something like Ubuntu)?
    3. Does the drivers (Wireless card drivers, graphics card drivers, printer drivers and audio card drivers) come pre-installed once Arch Linux is installed like Ubuntu?
    4. What is the stablility and speed of Arch Linux compared to Ubuntu?
That is all I need to know.

pacman is the package manager for Arch. It will install single package, batches of packages, update the installed packages and several other things. Yes, one command 'pacman -Syu will update all the installed packages to the most recent available in the repositories. It will not update your artwork, ut everything else will be updated if you so desire.
molom wrote:2. Is Arch Linux User friendly once installed (When I say user friendly, I mean something like Ubuntu)?
Once you have installed the base systen, updated and then installed whatever desktop environment or window manager you want, whatever programs you want, etc., it will be as user friendly as you have made it.
molom wrote:3. Does the drivers (Wireless card drivers, graphics card drivers, printer drivers and audio card drivers) come pre-installed once Arch Linux is installed like Ubuntu?
As others have said, the install process does a fairly good job of detecting your hardware and installing the necessary modules, but it is up to you to install drivers for your nVidia / ATI video card if you want accelerated graphics. You'll have to install your printer (generally via cups, which you must also install). You'll have to install alsa and you may have to configure your sound.
molom wrote:4. What is the stablility and speed of Arch Linux compared to Ubuntu?
Arch is what you make it. You can have a rock solid stable system, or you can opt to be bleeding edge and risk the occasional package breaking.
molom wrote:So when you say 'pkgs', do you also mean the desktop environment as well. For example, I have E17 installed and I use the 'pacman -Syu' command, will it update the version of E17 on my PC to the current version of E17?
A package is a piece of software. E17 is a package, or perhaps a meta package made up of a bunch of packages. alsa is a package. gnome network-manager is a package. Anything that is installed on your system is managed and updated by pacman.
molom wrote:Is there something similar to synaptic in Arch Linux?
pacman is the Arch package manager. It does not need a gui front end, though there are a few third party front ends that have been written. I do not know if they are still active.

Then I also suggest as other have, that you avail yourself of the wiki, especially the beginner's guide which answers several of the questions you've asked.
Arch Linux is what you make of it, but you have to do the making. Heck, that's 95% of the fun!

  • InDesign printing question - help really needed!

Maybe an easy question maybe not!
Usually here at work our printing is out-sourced, but for a project I'm currently working on I need to print a few bits on the work printer [for the client]. So, I've got a black page [4 colour black] with large red text - when I send to print, obviously the black prints first; leaving white gaps for the text; red prints next but due to slight movement [I guess] I always seem to get what appears to be a tiny white outlines around sections of the text [where the red hasn't printed exactly in the gaps left when applying the black].
Just wondering if there is any way around this, to minimise the issue, in InDesign. Or is this due to the printer used?
    Cheers in advance

I'm reading the post to look something like this (0|100|100|0 red on a field of 65|50|50|100 black):
    http://www.zenodesign.com/scripts/redonK.png
If I hide the black channel it looks like this:
    http://www.zenodesign.com/scripts/cmy.png
If I simulate the black plate off register, it looks like this:
    http://www.zenodesign.com/scripts/offreg.png
In this case you couldn't get white because there's no white on any of the plates.

  • A few simple Logic questions...please help.

I have a few probably simple Logic questions, that are nonetheless frustrating me, wondering if someone could help me out.
    1. I run Logic 8, all of the sounds that came with logic seem to work except organ sounds. I can't trigger any organ sounds (MIDI) on Logic, they won't play. I have a Yamaha Motif as my midi controller.
    Any idea why?
    2. I've starting running into a situation where I will record a MIDI track, the notes are recorded but they won't playback. The only track effected is the one that was just recorded. All other midi tracks playback.
I have to cut the track, usually go out of Logic and back in, re record for it to playback properly. Any idea why this may be happening?
    3. How important is it to update to Logic 9. Are there any disadvantages down the road if I don't upgrade. If I purchase the $200 upgrade, do I get a package of discs and material, or it just a web download.
    Any help is appreciated!

  • Clarify printing question with bright monitor

I want to clarify if I have a print problem or not. I am using an Epson R1800, Leopard 10.5.2, Lightroom 1.3.1 (I also got the same results with Photoshop CS3). Also, I'm using Entrada Natural with the correct ICC and a calibrated monitor (Spyder 2). I followed all the steps in the various posts, but my prints are still darker than I like. I don't notice the colors being off, just darker. My question is, is this normal? I read some where online that newer monitors are brighter which makes prints look darker. Is there something I can do to mitigate the problem? Is there a cheap print profiler?
    Thank you,
    Anthony

Monitors work by using the LCD pieces to block the light from the backlight. If brightness is turned way up, the whites will be brighter, as well as the midtones and the blacks. Very few LCDs have true blacks... they need a contrast ratio in the 100,000:1 range for that and most are typically in the 600:1 to 1000:1 range.
So yeah, it may be too bright. A bright LCD in a VERY BRIGHT room may be okay, but in a room that is not VERY BRIGHT you may get prints that look too dark, if you use your monitor as a reference guide :-)

  • General Simple Linux Printing Questions

So, I'm using Arch Linux with XFCE. In Ubuntu, it's relatively simple to set up printing. However, on Arch Linux, I don't know how to do it. I have a few simple questions:
    * Are all those "easy to use" printing setup GUIs just configurators/frontends for cups?
    * I have an HP printer, should I use hplip?
    * What is hplip exactly? Is it another printing system like cups? Is it a cups addon?
    * Is it easy to set up printing in Linux given that you have a pretty good printer that is "linux compatible"?

1.) Yes, most are simply CUPS frontends.
    2.) Yes, you should.
3.) It's a set of printer drivers for HP printers. It supports most printers and their functions.
4.) Yes, you just need to find the correct driver for the printer and set it up using the CUPS web-gui.
Remember, after running CUPS, you can access the interface from http://localhost:631 in a web browser.
Thanks! I set it up for my HP and it worked great!
However, when I run any of the hp-* tools from the command line, the copyright notice gets shown, then after a few milliseconds to a few seconds depending on which hp tool I run, another copyright notice gets shown and it freezes.

  • HP C6180 AIO Printer question

I've gotten one of the above and love it's being aboe the print wirelessly. My issue is with the drivers. It seems that I can get but one brint quality and don't have the ability to opt for b&W or Color.
Am I missing something in the settings and the software? I've checked HP's site and they are no help.
    Any Help will be appreciated.

    Hello John,
I finally got the 6180, an upgrade from a 2210 model. It still worked wonderfully, but the times just caught up with it.
About the 6180: compaired to the previous one it is absolutely wonderful. I've had no real problems. It fit into the network like a champ. The Linksys Router went south and there was no problem setting it up on usb. I could have set it up with the eithernet, but the usb was more handy. As for the speed. I've never had to do 32 pages, so not sure if it would do it in 60 seconds. It is very fast one the economy modes. Fax to email fine, though I have question on how to get it to send a document as an attachment in .mail/apple mail. It sends as an attachement in Entourage. Couldn't find anything about it in .mail preferences. If anyone can help with that, please do.
In short, John, I love it.
    Larry Jay
Does the 6180 perform as advertised? 32PPM? Scan to
Mac? Print docs from the Web & Preview without issue?
All via the Airport as a wireless server? How's the
    print quality now?
Leaving an HP 6110 that has all of these issues that
were HP driver/software problems. I wasn't happy with
HP ignoring the issues and vowed I wouldn't buy
another, but if this is all correct, I'll probably
    reconsider.

  • Printing questions on AIO 8500, choice of paper and settings..

    hi,
so i recently purchased  the officeje all-in-one 8500.  i installed the printer and was going to use hp primium photo paper to test out some picture printing.  but when it came time to choose what paper type it was, i couldn't find one that match perfectly..  there was 'Advance Photo Paper' that was not it, 'HP Photo Paper Matte'..  that was not it.  'HP Primium Inject Paper', that doesn't seem it.  what do i choose?
my 2nd question is  what is the best setting to use for best printing?  i only try a couple sheets.  i didn't want to waste ink trying every possible combination.  but using 'Advance Photo Paper' and best setting, the picture turned out SUPER dark.  print quality was great but everything, especially the dark colors, turned out super dark.  using same paper, and 'normal' quality setting, the print quality was crap, but the color was more true to the actual picture color.
any help, suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,

  • IPAD and UPdate to Airprint Printer question Help Please?

I have an HP 6500 printer that I utilize with my MacbookPro (from 2007) and it operates just fine wirelessly using WiFi at home. I did note  though that my iPod cannot print to the printer as the printer IS NOT AIRPRINT equipped.
    MY QUESTION?
I am considering purchasing an IPAD MINI (RETINA)equipped with KeyNote, Pages, etc., and am wondering If I invest in an AIRPRINT equipped printer in order to enable printing from the IPAD MINI, will I also still be able to print from my Macbook Pro (2007) which is not equipped with anything that interfaces with AIRPRINT to my new AIRPRINT printer? In other words, is this reversed engineered to allow printing from an older laptop to a brand new AIRPRINT printer?
Hope you can help, so I don't waste money on a new printer and an IPAD only to find out I can no longer use my LapTop (MacbookPro) to print.
    Thanks you for any help.
    Charles

    Thanks, Jim.
Going to give it a try, Now, after reading all the reviews on the various HP and Epson model all-in-one printers, my next chore will be to make the actual selection. It seems that there as many people who love each unit as there are who hate each unit. Confusing, but I will digest it over the next several days and make a choice.
    Thanks again,

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a Series - printing question

I have a problem with a printing application within QuickBooks and I need some help. I can print anything in QuickBooks except for deposit slips. I can print checks, invoices, reports, deposit summaries, and anything else in QuickBooks. Any reason why?  I recently bought this new printer (Dec. 2010) and have had no issues except this one.  Please help!!
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Lori1007

I have a print problem that I've not seen addressed anywhere else on my OJ A909a printer.
To conserve ink usage I print most everything in the draft mode using the black ink only option. Recently I've noticed that my printer misses printing a few characters on 2 or 3 lines in the upper right area of every page. If I try the "normal" or "best" modes the same area will print ok sometimes and smudgy other times. All 4 ink cartriges are new and purchased from HP directly. I'm assuming that if this was a printhead problem that it would show up in other places as well. I am still using the original printheads that came with my printer when i purchased it in Aug. 2009. The HP diagnostic tool found no problems at all. Does anyone have any ideas about this. My HP Warantee has run out but my Staples extended warantee is still in force so I'd like to resolve this ASAP or return to Staples for action. I am new to this site/forum and thank you, in advance, for any suggestions / solutions you offer to me..
