A few more questions about batteries

Hi folks, new here.
1. According to www.apple.com/batteries, we don't have to worry about this Nickel-based batteries stuff when charging (cause iPods are Lithium-based). If so, do I really need to charge for 4 hours the first time? Why?
2. I've had to reboot my computer the first time Shuffle was charging, meaning the charge has been interrupted a few times. Does this affect my battery life?
3. After 2 hours of first charge, the front light turned green. One minute later, I've had to reboot again. After that, the front light turned back to solid amber, only turning green again 1.5 hour later. Can someone please explain that?
Very happy with my Shuffle. And congratulations for the quality of the forum.
Thanks.

Leo,
I am not really sure about first-time charge. Mine was interrupt when charged at the first time too, and nothing seems wrong up to date.
Lithium-ion batteries can be charged at anytime, on any duration. It does not matter if you charge it only 5 minutes, then use it for some hours, and charge again. You can safely reboot your computer while charging.
When you plug-in iPod again (ie. reboot your computer) after it was fully charged, it is normal that it would continue to charge for an hour or so even it's just been fully charged. See a chart in www.apple.com/batteries. It tells you that it takes long time to fully charge the battery when the battery itself is almost full already.
Hope this help.

  • Few basic questions about database administration

    Hello,
    I have a few basic questions about database administration.
    1. I switched one of my oracle instances to archivelog mode. I just cannot locate the archive log files on my windows system. The %ora_home%/ora92/database/archive directory is desperately empty...
    2.What is the tools01.dbf datafile used for?
    3.What is the undotbso1.dbf datafile used for?
    Thanks in advance,
    Julien.

    1. The archive log location needs to be specified in your init.ora file. By default, Oracle will place the archive files in either ORACLE_HOME/dbs or ORACLE_HOME/database.
    2. The tools01.dbf file belongs to the tools tablespace which should be set as the default tablespace for system. It primary purpose is to hold Oracle Forms and Reports database objects, however, it should also be used for holding other non sys database objects such as the perfstat (statspack) or other third party database schemas e.g. quests sqllab.
    3. undotbs01.dbf file belongs to the undo tablespace.

  • A few quick questions about my new MP3 pla

    Ok, I like to get to know anything I buy so I decided to come here and ask, I hope you dont mind answering (My MP3 player is the MuVo c00):
    ) In the instruction manual it says that play WMA file reduce the battery life of your player. Since converting them reduces the size by a fair bit I was wondering if the reduced battery life was worth it and how much it reduces the battery life.
    2) When is a good time to replace the bettery in my player? Should I wait for it to completly die or what because I dont want to go replacing batteries 3 quarters full.
    3) Is there any sound or quality differences between MP3 format and WMA?
    4) Is the program that came with the player the best thing to add music with or would buying something else do the trick or even just copy and paste?
    5) Finally, how do you attach the neck strap? I dont see any place where it could go unless you have to attach it with the arm band on it.
    Thanks for your help and I might have some more question but untill further notice this is all I have and again thaks for your time.

    . You have to bear in mind this is for an equivalent MP3 e.g. a 28 kbit/s encoded WMA is going to use more power than a 28 kbit/s MP3. Normally WMAs are encoded at a lower rate anyway, hence will use less power. There are many factors that affect battery usage.
    2. Wait for it to go flat.
    3. Complex answer. In general WMA is used when you want more space and aren't so worried about quality, at the 64 - 28 kbit/s range. MP3s (using the LAME encoder) are better at the higher bit-rates of 92 kbit/s. The bottom line is try a few different bit-rates for both MP3 and WMA, take a listen, and decide for yourself.
    4. With the MuVo it's very easy, just use Windows Explorer to copy files. I wouldn't buy any other software, unless you find something you really like to create MP3/WMA files.
    5. Not sure on this one...

  • Few more questions (sorry I'm new)

    Let me just say you guys are amazing, this entire community and how you support eachother... Ive strolled through just about every post in rebuilding section for the most recent 20 pages and must say, everyone here is absolutely glorious. However I have a few questions about my own personal roadmap if anyone could provide insight Im not a complete noob but so far Ive just been reading, taken no action except paying full without getting anything.  I have a ClosedOut account with CITI, should be paid in full today or tommorow or whenever the check clears. CAgency was working I assume on behalf of CITI because both checks were made for full amount to CITI and balance was the balance. I had perfect payment for 2.5 years, the was delinquent for 8 months, paid in full 4.1k in two installments. When is it not greedy to ask CITI for some love and peace and kindness with a GW letter? I have valid reason as to why I stopped (2 car accidents april, july) and why I paid them back (accident settlement)How likely are they to help me out? I can provide them anything their heart desires with regards to documentation - medical, college, police reports, absolutely anything. Any insight as to where I should have sent such letter (email)? I sent it to application status questions on their site..  Thoughts/suggestions?

    yes i would start with the gw letters now.  explain about the accidents and let them know that you were perfect till that point.  in my experience sometimes one gw letter will do it and others you send once a month. As far as the gas company goes, yes I would call them and ask to see the statements if you dont have any.  If they are indeed wrong I would ask them to correct it.  Do you still have service with them?  If you do then I would think that they would be wrong otherwise i'm sure that they would not still be providing this service. If not yes I would dispute it with the cb.I know nothing about Discover student loans so I will let someone else get to that one.  Overall it is nice to have one installment loan going on.  When you paid it off you probably had a small drop in your fico score.

  • Few common questions about Mobile Forms

    Hello, everyone!
    I have a few questions about mobile forms:
    Can a form be integrated with a portal, which is build NOT on Adobe CQ\AEM technology?
    I've created a form and loaded it to the server repository via Form Manager. Now I can access it in my browser like this:
    http://testlcserver:8080/lc/content/xfaforms/profiles/hrform.html?contentRoot=repository%3 A%2F%2F%2FApplications%2FTest%2F1.0&template=UberForm.xdp&dataRef=
    And the question is: what is the right way to share forms to users on a production environment (without integration in a portal pages on so on, let it be just a link to a form which users have to fill in)?  I mean, should it be the same link, or it is only for developers need and to share forms to users some other way must be used?

    For integrating on custom portal, you would need to integrate with form submit proxy for handling of submission as mentioned @ http://helpx.adobe.com/livecycle/help/mobile-forms/mobile-forms-service-proxy.html.
    As far as url of form is concerned, it’s really up you. You can choose to hide the request parameters as couple of other customers are doing. You can find more information about hiding form template and content root from request parameter @ http://blogs.adobe.com/foxes/hide-parameters-from-mobile-form-url/

  • More questions about pointers

    Sorry to post so many threads -- I hope I'm not pinching any nerves around here, but I've been in a programming trance recently, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. If anyone has time to spare, there's still some things about pointers I'd like to try to understand. To start with, consider this simple character pointer declaration:
    char * pChar;
    What I'd like to know is what exactly is going on internally when this statement is compiled (before any other pointer or string literal assignment or anything like that -- just the declaration above). I mean, in terms of memory addresses and what not, what is happening here? This pointer variable would be created on the stack, right? What else happens?
    To expand on this question, let's say the above statement is the only statement in the entire program (so, again, there's no additional assignments to a string literal like +pChar = "a string"+ or to a character's address like +pChar = &charVariable+ -- I simply declare the character pointer +char * pChar+ and leave it at that.) If I then add the following printf() statement after it, like so:
    char * pChar;
    printf("%c", pChar);
    then the character 'K' is printed to the console. Alternatively, if I dereference pChar in the same printf() statement, like so:
    char * pChar;
    printf("%c", *pChar);
    then the character '[' (an opening brace) is printed to the console. All this seems odd to me given that the pointer hasn't been assigned to anything, so I would think it would produce a null value or something like that.
    I would really like to understand all this. Even after all the work I've put into trying to understand pointers, and even after all the help I've gotten from the devs around here, I still feel lost whenever I go back to pointers after having left them alone for even a short period of time.
    Any information on this topic, no matter how short or how long, will be very, very much appreciated. Thanks again.

    Yes -- I was referring to a local variable. Should have specified -- sorry about that.
    So we have a random address consisting of 4 bytes, e.g. in hex: [FE] [00] [09] [4B]. Assume when we tell printf to make a single char out of those bytes, it will select the lowest byte in the address (for extra credit, the student may determine if this assumption is true on his or her Mac; however students who fail to close this thread until that question is resolved will get no credit).
    hehe -- are you referring to the time you gave me that pointers exercise to do and it took me like two weeks to actually get around to actually doing it? Sorry about that, Ray -- it just took me awhile to find a time where I could put as much time and effort into as I wanted to (I don't know if you ever got around to reading the response, but I did put quite a lot of time and effort into that exercise, and it really was very helpful to me, so it didn't go to waste by any means, and I really appreciate your putting it up there for me to do). Anyways, the student apologizes to the instructor for that.
    This time around, though, the student would like to respond promptly to the instructor's exercise in order to receive his extra credit. The question that the instructor asked was to find out if "this assumption is true on his or her Mac" (this particular student is a he, by the way). I'm confused, though, about what particular assumption I'm supposed to be confirming. In the paragraph above, you said "we declare the char pointer pChar, and we assume that its value is random" -- is this the assumption I'm supposed to be confirming?
    I had changed the code a few times over the last 24 hours since I wrote this thread, and this time, when I went back and ran the following code:
    char * pChar;
    printf("%c", pChar);
    The student didn't get anything but a blank line. Instead of 'K' like before, nothing was written to the console that could be seen. Maybe it was a space or something this time, and that's why it wasn't visible? So, the student added another declaration after the first and used the same printf() statement to print the char-formatted value of the first char pointer, like so:
    char * pChar;
    char * pChar2;
    printf("%c", pChar);
    And this time I got a 'K' like before. If I change the printf() statement to print pChar2 instead of pChar then I get the space (or blank line or whatever) again. If I add another declaration, before the other two this time instead of after, like so:
    char * pChar3;
    char * pChar;
    char * pChar2;
    printf("%c", pChar);
    This time I still get 'K' for pChar. If I change the printf() statement to print pChar2, I get the blank line again. If I change the printf() statement to print pChar3, I get the blank line with it as well.
    I don't really know what to make of all that to be honest -- it seems like the pointer's value is pretty random to me, though. I don't know if that's the assumption you wanted me to check on or not. The only other one I can think of that you may have been referring to is when you mentioned that some compilers will check to see if the printf() function's arguments match the format specifiers, but I don't know what code I should run to find out if this is true or not for my compiler. I tried using printf() to print an int with a %c specifier and that ran fine, and when I did the opposite and used it to print a char with a %d specifier that worked fine too. But characters are integers (right?), so that's no surprise. If I declare an int, however, and try to use printf() to print it with a %s specifier, then the debugger comes up with a signal 10 error after the program starts, but I don't get any warnings ahead of time, so maybe that means the answer is no (meaning that the compiler does not check to see if the arguments match the format specifiers)
    Anyways, I think the student is butchering the instructor's exercise completely. The student feels very unintellegent at the moment, but he wanted to try...
    If the address stored in pChar is random, then the contents at that address will also be random.
    I would have thought that if the address is random, then the contents of that address would be empty since it is not an address that's being used, right? Does this mean that all memory addresses have something in them, even if they are not in use? I mean the frequently used "mailbox" analogy for pointers says that when you declare a variable, an empty mailbox is used to hold it, right? And if that's the case, doesn't that mean that the empty mailboxes have no contents? So how would the contents be random? I don't if any of that made any sense or not -- feel free to ignore me. I can't seem to get myself to understand how all this memory address business and everything surrounding it works -- I feel very lost.
    What do you expect to happen in this case?
    You asked this about running the following code:
    char * pChar;
    *pChar = 'A';
    Honestly, I really have no idea what to expect here. I mean, I know that usually, before you dereference a pointer to assign the value it points to to something (like in the second statement above), you usually assign the pointer to the address of another variable or something (like +pChar = &charVariable+). So, the student proceeded to cheat and run this code in his compiler, at which pointer the program ran, but he received a signal 10 error. He doesn't know what to make of this.
    My understanding of pointers is much, much better than what it used to be, and most of that is thanks to you and the other devs around here in previous threads I've started. Nevertheless, I still feel like I don't know much of anything in the realm of things when it comes to pointers.
    Thanks to the rest of you guys as well for all your responses. They were all helpful, and I read them all thoroughly, but it seems like, for every answer I get, five more questions come up that I'm equally confused about. I'm determined, though -- I'm not going to give up until I understand how all this works, so thanks to everyone for continually answering my questions.

  • A Few Basic Questions About Random Shut Downs (RSD)

    i think my month and a half old macbook has "RSD", its a white 13 inch which i bought refurbrished, Iv got a few questions about RSD and apple serice
    First, is there any way to avaoid rsd or is it soemthing you really have no influence over?
    secondly, if i send it in to get serviced, how long might it take (it has to ship from new england if that means anything)?
    has anyone got theres serviced recently and still had problems?
    Also will the RSD get worse, should i send it in sooner rather than later (right now i can deal with it, though if it does get worse itd be a pain)
    and last should i expect to lose everything on the harddrive ifg i send it in?

    First, is there any way to avaoid rsd or is it
    soemthing you really have no influence over?
    You can't avoid it. You can temporarily reduce it by:
    1. Holding down the power button at startup until it beeps.
    2. Setting your energy saver settings so it doesn't sleep.
    But over time, even those strategies will fail to help.
    secondly, if i send it in to get serviced, how long
    might it take (it has to ship from new england if
    that means anything)?
    I took mine to the Apple Store last Wednesday and it was overnighted to the repair center. It was delivered back to me the this Wednesday. So it took one week in my case. I know there are folks that sent theirs in before I did that had to wait longer, but I think that's because there was a parts shortage.
    has anyone got theres serviced recently and still had
    problems?
    The first time I sent mine in it worked fine for three weeks and then the RSD returned, but that was because Apple really didn't know at the time what the problem was. By the time I sent it in the second time, they had just concluded that a heatsink replacement would fix the problem. Hopefully they were right - only time will tell, since the issue generally seems to take a few weeks or more to occur.
    Also will the RSD get worse, should i send it in
    sooner rather than later (right now i can deal with
    it, though if it does get worse itd be a pain)
    It will get worse over time. If it only happens rarely, they might not be able to replicate the problem if you take it in for service right away. (The first time I took it to the Apple Store they couldn't get it to shut down. By the time I took it in the second time, it was predictable enough that I knew it would shut done right after they turned it on - then they sent it in for service.) If it happens fairly regularly (like every time you start it after its been sitting for awhile, or any time you wake it from sleep), then definitely take it in. Supposedly they really do know how to fix it now.
    and last should i expect to lose everything on the
    harddrive ifg i send it in?
    Both times that I got mine back all of my data was intact. However, it is always good practice to do a full backup before you send it in -- just in case.

  • One more question about "snap to" points in audio objects

    sorry, one more question people.............. is there a way to set a "snap to" point in an audio region? Can I have logic set a point, or an "anchor" within an audio region that would coincide with the cursor. Once I get the cursor to a bar or a beat, is there a command that would allow a "snap to" point to be created in an audio object? That way I could clean up any "noise" or "chatter" at the beginning of an audio bounce or any audio object, and still have no problem pasting it all over my arrangement. I'm sure it's in here somewhere, but can't find it in the manual..
    thanks again!!!

    The anchor point in an audio region can be moved to wherever you want it to be. Let's say you recorded a loud piano bass note and afterwards you trimmed the file so that the attack of this sound happens right at the beginning of the audio region. Your anchor point will now coincide with the begnning of that region. This means that you can place that audio at, say, bar 37 and it's guaranteed that the attack of that sound will play exactly at bar 37. In this case anchor point = position of audio region in the Arrange Window.
    Even though you haven't played a MIDI note into the song in order to place this audio region, an "event" is generated for this sound which can be viewed in a special version of the Event Editor which shows the position of all audio regions in the arrangement. Access this by simply clicking on a blank area of the Arrange window and then opening the Event Editor.
    So let's say this sound is positioned at bar 37. Open the Event Editor (as described above) and you'll see an event at 37 1 1 1 and the name of that audio region to its right. In this case, the event's position = the start of the sound file = the position of the anchor within that sound file. If you changed the position of that event to 38, or 109, or 3, that audio region will be "triggered" at any of those positions. That sound will always "attack" on a downbeat.
    Now let's say you reversed that pinao note in order to create a dramatic swell into a section of your song. (Open the sample editor and use the Reverse function). At this point, the anchor point is still positioned at the beginning of the file! Play back the sequence (from our bar 37) and the audio will play back from bar 37, only backwards this time; the peak of that piano note will be at some point later than 37.
    So let's say you wanted to position this sound so that it hits exactly on the downbeat of bar 37. How do you do it? Well, you could always slide the audio file in the Arrange Window and try to line up the attack of the audio waveform with the downbeat of bar 37, but there's an easier way...
    Open the sample editor and move the anchor point to the end of the file, coinciding with the peak of the waveform (the piano's attack is now at the end because we reversed the audio). Next, close the sample editor window, click on a blank area in the Arrange Window and open the Event Editor. You'll see that this audio region is still positioned at bar 37, but the actual beginning of the sound file now starts before bar 37. Now when you play back, Logic will start playing that sound file before bar 37, but the audio's peak will be lined up at bar 37.

  • A few quick questions about publishing for iPhone/Android

    I'm currently developing an iPhone/Android game in CS5 and I just have a few quick questions.  If anyone can answer even one or two I'd really appreciate it
    1- I'm developing using a 320 x 480 resolution for the iphone.  When I tested it, the status bar on the top of the screen makes the edges disappear.  How should I turn off the status bar?  And if I can't what resolution should I use?
    2- The performance is a little slow, and the game isn't very intense at all.  What's a good way to improve performance?
    3- For Android, what should I do for the resolution?  Is there a standard resolution or do I have to have multiple resolutions for multiple devices?
    4- Finally, is it worth getting the free trial of CS5.5 before I publish?  Is there anything in there that will be a huge improvement over CS5?
    All help is appreciated

    1. Publish in fullscreen
    2. Use bitmaps, cache all bitmaps, use minimized looping structure etc.
        http://www.yeahbutisitflash.com/?p=986
    3. Android: 480 * 800
    4. Not that much, but you have GUI updates and have a GUI publishing screen for packager for iphone too.

  • JustAnswer has asked me to answer your question -- "Apple TV: how to reset WiFi password. I do not recall the" -- because it falls within my area of expertise. I just need a few more details about your situation and I will get to work!

    JustAnswer has asked me to answer your question -- "Apple TV: how to reset WiFi password. I do not recall the original PW am hitting a brickwall and I am ready to jump off!  Please advise- many thanks

    1)Your going to have to go to the manufacture's website for the orginal password. Once you have that you will have to setup you network again.
    2)After your network is setup again you will go to general setting menu on the ATV. Select the Network option then Configure Wifi option. It will take a momment and load all the WIFI networks in you area.  Once you selected your network, it will prompt you to enter the password.

  • A few (basic) questions about the iPhone

    I just got my iPhone 3GS about a week ago. I am very new to the whole smartphone arena, so some of my questions my seem stupid. Please be kind regardless.
    I've learned a lot about the iPhone by trial and error (pressing buttons to see what happens) but one thing I just discovered was the multitasking bar. When I accessed it, I saw every app I had run since I got the phone displayed in the multitasking bar. And I know that by holding the icons on the bar, you can bring up a red minus sign, touch it, and remove that app from the bar. My question is, are all of those apps displayed in the mutltasking bar constantly running in the background, and thus, draining more battery than necessary?
    Secondly, on the topic of wifi. I have my phone set to automatically join known networks and ask me to join unknown networks that it detects. However, it doesn't seem to be doing that. I still have to manually go to settings and search for the network. It will automatically join my home network (for example, when I go somewhere and come home, it will switch back to my home network automatically), but it won't do this with, for example, the wifi network at McDonald's even though I did go through the setup and make that network a known network. Am I mistaken in thinking the phone should do this automatically, or do I have to search for the network every single time? Also, since I have "ask to join networks" checked, will it automatically detect nearby networks, or do I also have to manually search for those? I understand this question may be confusing, so I can try to clarify if need be.
    My last question is concerning conserving the battery. I currently have both wifi and 3G active on my phone, and I have read conflicting reports of which one drains more battery. Some say to turn off 3G and keep wifi, others say vice versa. I'm at home a lot so I'm always near my home wifi network and don't need 3G for data transfer unless I'm out and about. So is it better to turn 3G off unless I leave? I'm just trying to do whatever I can to conserve battery because I've noticed that the battery drains quite rapidly.
    Sorry for the long post, I just wanted totry and clear those things up. I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.

And I know that by holding the icons on the bar, you can bring up a red minus sign, touch it, and remove that app from the bar. My question is, are all of those apps displayed in the mutltasking bar constantly running in the background, and thus, draining more battery than necessary?
    Only the last 4 apps to be run are actually active and in RAM. The others are swapped out to flash memory in a saved state (i.e you should be able to resume where you left off, if the app is written to support that). They don't therefore drain battery. I close all apps down from time to time (every few days) just to keep things neat.
    It should automatically list new networks when (a) you're in range and (b) you try to connect to the internet (e.g. browse to a web page or check for email)
    The issue is not which drains more battery, but which you need to connect to the internet. Where you have wifi access, switch off 3G, where you have 3G, switch off wifi.
    Sorry for the long post, I just wanted totry and clear those things up. I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.

  • More Questions about InetAddress

    Hello,
    I have an app that I am working on that resolves Hostnames to IP's for this app there are and returns a formatted file that interfaces with another application. I have a simplified version of the code below.
    String newline = "\n";
    for(int i=0;i<array.length;++i)
              try
                        Address = InetAddress.getByName(array);
    stringbuffer.append(Address + newline);
    catch(UnknownHostException e)
    stringbuffer.append("***Does Not Exist***" + newline);
    The code that I am currently using works however, it takes very large amounts of time to complete. The reason for this is not all of the hostnames are setup, so there's a fairly decent amount of UnknownHostExceptions. The valid addresses resolve in milliseconds however the UnknownHostExceptions "resolve" in quite a few seconds as opposed to the milliseconds. The results in a problem considering there are over 600 hostnames to resolve. So here's the question.
    Is there a way to decrease the amount of time that the UnknownHostExceptions take? I have spent days searching and have come up with not even a glimpse of hope.
    If that isn't possible would setting up multiple threads to handle different portions of the array at the same time be a wise venture?
    If not does anyone have any suggestions?
    They would be much appreciated

    Can anyone suggest a decent book on Thread pooling or a book that has a descent section on thread pooling?
    I have been searching online for hours. I think I understand the concept of Thread pooling I'm just having some trouble applying it. I need something a little more thorough than the articles I've come across.

  • Few basic questions about sharing and other stuff..

    Hi there!
    First of all I know where are "101" pages, but they are not giving detail information.
    1.I know there are some folders where I can put files, web-sites and other in order to enable sharing.
    What do I have to do to enable other users (from internet to)
    - view my webpage when they enter my IP address in browser
    - to access files which I want them to be able to acces (with user and password required)? I know there is sth like sharing, and windows sharing, but I give access to my all user folder, do I have to create new accounts on my mac?
    2. It's kind of small problem, but can I run apps in finder using only keyboard (enter causes rename action)
    3. Why doesn't safari keep addresses I used in addres field after few days?
    The most important question is 1.
    Will be gratefull for help.
    Thanks
    Adam Mscisz

    1. Start Personal Web Sharing from the Sharing pane of System Preferences; if you have a router between your computer and the Internet, ports 80 and 443 need to be forwarded to your computer. You can set this up from the router's configuration page, which is accessible by finding the router address in the Network pane of System Preferences and putting it into a web browser. See this article for instructions on how to password protect your shared files.
    2. You can use the Command and O keyboard shortcut to open the selected item in the Finder.
    3. The default setting in Safari is to keep the history for 7 days. You can use the method posted by ptejad in this article to extend the time Safari remembers the history for. The method at the top of the linked page won't work in Tiger.

  • A few more questions regarding creation of recovery discs

    HP Pavilon 17 Notebook 17-e040us
    Wireless connection
    In the creating covery discs information that I downloaded from HP's website, it states"if you are prompted for an Administrator password, type the password or providide confirmation.
    How do I create an adminstrator password?  The only areas where I have created passwords on the laptop are the Login Screen/Signing In to PC, Mirosoft Account and Computers Description.   How do I provide confirmation?
    Disconnecting from the internet.  After the login screen and go to the start menu I'm not connected to the internet.  Correct?
    Do I have to disconnect exterior equipment from the laptop before creating recovery discs?
    During the creating process, if it should stop or ,get a message something is wrong, what do I do?
    Thank you.
    This question was solved.

    You aren't likely to be asked for Admin password unless you are using a User account created with Limited permissions-such as one would set up for another user on their machine.Some people share a machine with kids,teens and setup a Limited account for them.
    I have never really worried about disconnecting from Internet -just don't have Internet Explorer or Email app open and active on internet.You could always turn off the Wireless I guess. Usually the F12 key in top row turns wieless off/on by tapping. White light=On.
    If you run into a problem...just post that problem if the Recovery Manager doesn't give details of what you need to do to correct it. You can always phone HP and request Recovery Media if the process fails for you.
    Just try to stop worrying and over-thinking it.Go for it!
