A few more questions on upgrading OS

Well, I'm trying to be proactive before I try to upgrade my current mini from tiger to snow leopard os.
So far, I've
purchased the box set
purchased the external hard drive
downloaded carbon copy app
learned how to do a back up and reboot and run from it to ensure it's all there before installing new os
What I don't know is:
What do I do after Snow Leopard is on the mini, but all my old data is on the external hard drive?
I want to go into this whole process with my eyes wide open!
Thanks!

Marcelo,
I assumed I'd be backing up my entire hard drive - in other words everything.  The only external things I have would probably be downloaded games.  Other than that it's Office, iphoto, iweb, itunes that came on the computer when I bought it in 96.
Just wondering how I get my old iphoto library into the new iphoto library, is it just a click and drag? or after installing new os will it prompt me for this kind of data transfer?
I assumed I'd be emptying the hard drive after the install.  Hadn't planned on continually pulling from it.

  • Few more questions (sorry I'm new)

Let me just say you guys are amazing, this entire community and how you support eachother... Ive strolled through just about every post in rebuilding section for the most recent 20 pages and must say, everyone here is absolutely glorious. However I have a few questions about my own personal roadmap if anyone could provide insight Im not a complete noob but so far Ive just been reading, taken no action except paying full without getting anything.  I have a ClosedOut account with CITI, should be paid in full today or tommorow or whenever the check clears. CAgency was working I assume on behalf of CITI because both checks were made for full amount to CITI and balance was the balance. I had perfect payment for 2.5 years, the was delinquent for 8 months, paid in full 4.1k in two installments. When is it not greedy to ask CITI for some love and peace and kindness with a GW letter? I have valid reason as to why I stopped (2 car accidents april, july) and why I paid them back (accident settlement)How likely are they to help me out? I can provide them anything their heart desires with regards to documentation - medical, college, police reports, absolutely anything. I was making maybe $300 a month during that time and literally borrowed $33 from my neighbor to buy gas. Paying them seemed so huge at the time I just closed my eyes.I also have a natural gas account on my report that is negative in this manner:   JUL-OK__AUG-OK__SEPT-ND__OCT-120Is this possible to be real? 120 is 4 monthsIf I still dont believe you, who do I call first, gas company or experian? If I call gas company, do I say youre wrong give me statements or do I nicely ask them to change it off the bat without disputingIf they give me statements and they are in fact wrong, do I call back or write a letter? Certified or no? Do I send said statements to bureaus? When? Finally, was it a mistake to take out and pay off a Discover student loan in two years? It was for 4k and I applied again and was denied.. Did they not make enough to bother with me? I sent them a recon letter, saying Im loyal please love me. Hope to hear back because loved them much more than Sallie. Any insight as to where I should have sent such letter (email)? I sent it to application status questions on their site..  Thoughts/suggestions?

yes i would start with the gw letters now.  explain about the accidents and let them know that you were perfect till that point.  in my experience sometimes one gw letter will do it and others you send once a month. As far as the gas company goes, yes I would call them and ask to see the statements if you dont have any.  If they are indeed wrong I would ask them to correct it.  Do you still have service with them?  If you do then I would think that they would be wrong otherwise i'm sure that they would not still be providing this service. If not yes I would dispute it with the cb.I know nothing about Discover student loans so I will let someone else get to that one.  Overall it is nice to have one installment loan going on.  When you paid it off you probably had a small drop in your fico score.

  • Upgrading to CU3, quick question - more questions after upgrade

So I am finally getting around to installing CU3 to our environment, upgrading from the base SCCM 2012 R2 install.  I am running SCCM in a 1 CAS and 3 Primary server environment.  I'll be upgrading the CAS first, and the update gives the option
of importing the client packages for upgrades into SCCM Software Library.  The question is, is should I be doing this on the CAS, as our CAS does not have any clients reporting to it?  Obviously I'll be importing them into the Primary sites, and
I wasn't planning on importing them into our CAS, but wanted to verify that is the correct action.

So I updated the CAS, and the primary sites, and I deployed the client upgrade packages to about 25 test machines. All the test machines received and updated successfully.  They have the updated version of x.1401 on the client sided, however it has
been almost 24 hours for some, and I only see three clients in the Device Collection node that's in the SCCM console that are reporting the new client version.  The ones that have reported back are those that have performed a hardware scan after the update.
     Is this normal?
Also when I go into Administration > Sites and look at the version being reported here, it is also on the old version, despite being correct in the About System Center Configuration Manager, and seeing the CU registry key reporting "3".  Is
    this normal?

  • A few more questions regarding creation of recovery discs

    HP Pavilon 17 Notebook 17-e040us
    Wireless connection
In the creating covery discs information that I downloaded from HP's website, it states"if you are prompted for an Administrator password, type the password or providide confirmation.
How do I create an adminstrator password?  The only areas where I have created passwords on the laptop are the Login Screen/Signing In to PC, Mirosoft Account and Computers Description.   How do I provide confirmation?
Disconnecting from the internet.  After the login screen and go to the start menu I'm not connected to the internet.  Correct?
Do I have to disconnect exterior equipment from the laptop before creating recovery discs?
During the creating process, if it should stop or ,get a message something is wrong, what do I do?
    Thank you.
    This question was solved.

You aren't likely to be asked for Admin password unless you are using a User account created with Limited permissions-such as one would set up for another user on their machine. Some people share a machine with kids, teens and setup a Limited account for them.
I have never really worried about disconnecting from Internet -just don't have Internet Explorer or Email app open and active on internet. You could always turn off the Wireless I guess. Usually the F12 key in top row turns wieless off/on by tapping. White light=On.
If you run into a problem...just post that problem if the Recovery Manager doesn't give details of what you need to do to correct it. You can always phone HP and request Recovery Media if the process fails for you.
Just try to stop worrying and over-thinking it.Go for it!

  • A few more questions about batteries

    Hi folks, new here.
    1. According to www.apple.com/batteries, we don't have to worry about this Nickel-based batteries stuff when charging (cause iPods are Lithium-based). If so, do I really need to charge for 4 hours the first time? Why?
    2. I've had to reboot my computer the first time Shuffle was charging, meaning the charge has been interrupted a few times. Does this affect my battery life?
    3. After 2 hours of first charge, the front light turned green. One minute later, I've had to reboot again. After that, the front light turned back to solid amber, only turning green again 1.5 hour later. Can someone please explain that?
Very happy with my Shuffle. And congratulations for the quality of the forum.
    Thanks.

    Leo,
I am not really sure about first-time charge. Mine was interrupt when charged at the first time too, and nothing seems wrong up to date.
Lithium-ion batteries can be charged at anytime, on any duration. It does not matter if you charge it only 5 minutes, then use it for some hours, and charge again. You can safely reboot your computer while charging.
When you plug-in iPod again (ie. reboot your computer) after it was fully charged, it is normal that it would continue to charge for an hour or so even it's just been fully charged. See a chart in www.apple.com/batteries. It tells you that it takes long time to fully charge the battery when the battery itself is almost full already.
    Hope this help.

  • One more question about upgrading HD

EVeryone was really helpful last time, I have one final question:
Does the name matter for the HD?
I have bought my HD, used SuperDuper and am actually already working off the new HD via Firewire.
Does it matter what I NAME the new Drive? When I used Super Duper I called it "New Startup". The current HD is called "Macintosh HD". Is this a problem?
    Thanks guys!

@Niel: How about localized chars (ä, ß, î, etc.) and such ones that may have a special technical meaning (like /, *, -) ?

  • Schultz...just a few more questions while i am here..

How does one obtain a startup disc/recovery disc..I did not make one when I first purchased my laptop...Live and learn huh? thanks again...schultz

You have to create a set of recovery disks from the hidden recovery partition by using the Recovery Disk Creator.  Go to "Start - All Programs - Toshiba - Recovery - Recovery Disk Creator".  Information on using the Hard Drive Based Recovery Process and creating the disks normally begins on or about page 58 to 60 of your User's Guide.  The User's Guide is found on your hard drive in Adobe Acrobat Format and can be downloaded from the Product Support Link at the top of this page.
If you didn't make them and can not do so now you'll need to purchase a replacement set as per this post.

If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

When you purchased your BB, it should have come with a leather type holster, in which there is a magnet that will shut down the screen of the BB when it is inserted in the holster, to cause a Standby condition of the BlackBerry.
So, you can set thet Profile settings of your BB to act different IN holster and OUT of holster. Say, IN your holster on your hip, you might want VERY LOUD volume ringtone settings, and OUT of the holster when sitting on your desk, you might set quieter volume for the ringtones.

  • A few more Solaris questions

I'm sure this isn't the best place to post this, but I currently have a file server running Solaris 11 with a raid-z2 pool and I'm building a new vmware server out of some parts I've managed to get some good deals on might I add.
I'm building on a supermicro x8dt3-f board that has an LSI controller on board with a pair of xeon 5570's and 48gb ram. The processors and ram actually came from a sun blade that was tossed out for recycling, sadly the box had never been opened, but i got these for pennies on the dollar, so i'm happy
I'd like to move the current Solaris file server into a VM on the new ESXi 5.1 host and passthrough the LSI controller.
I've been reading, and reading and reading and i find the more i read, the more questions I have and the less clear some of the answers are getting.
First, from what I gather, Solaris 11 has only been added to the supported guest list in ESXi with the recent esxi 5.1 version as I understand? So all should be fine here? Can someone confirm?
second, i've read about issues with LSI controllers under solaris 11. Is this something that has been addressed in 11.1?
Third, trying to find the best method to conver the physical system to virtual under ESXi
The first thing I plan on doing is backing up my data from the pool, though it will be scattered across a few systems. Then I plan on exporting the pool to move the disks physically to the new controller in the VM. The question I have here, is will the share flags and permissions be retained when I import the pool? or do I have to redo all that?
But then, what's the best method to move it to a VM? The one document I see come up the most is moving a physical solaris system into a zone on another system. Can it be transferred to the global zone? Could I do a new install in a VM, and move the existing install to the global zone, import my pool and call it a daY?
Or do I dd the OS disk, convert the image and drop it into vmware, get the hardware working, and then import the pool?
Or is there a better way? Has anyone got any online docs in mind that may help specifically with this migration? everything i'm finding is scattered, maybe i'm not looking for the right things but I could use some pointers if anyone has suggestions.
I suppose I should note, i have it integrated with an Active directory, this is why i'm worried about permissions being retained when i import the pool
I just want this to go as quickly and smoothly as possible, with as little headache as possible. it's my home setup, so realistically it takes the time it takes as long as things go smooth

I know this may not be the answer you are looking for, but I think you are making it more difficult than it needs to be.
One other option is to leave your Solaris Storage server on the bare metal of this new beast of a machine you are piecing together. Then, use VirtualBox 4.2.6 which is support quite well in Solaris to run whatever virtual machines you where intending ESXi to be used for.
This way you have the fastest possible storage setup without the issues of hardware passthrough. And the fast storage now benefits the VMs running on it. Not to mention the other neat options now of running lzjb compression for the VMs. either using zvols for the VMs, or just virtualbox vdi files sitting on a compressed zfs filesystem.
As far as the LSI 1068E controller goes, their website only shows drivers for Solaris 10. So unless Solaris 11 has the drivers built in, you may not be able to use that controller. Believe me I feel your pain in this one.. I have the d#$$!est time finding good SAS HBAs for Solaris 11.1 and the few I did find had questionable drivers. Areca 1320 cards seem to work well, as do Adaptec 64xx and 68xx raid cards. LSI has a new line that supposedly works with Solaris 11.
My advice is to try a baremetal install of Solaris 11.1 on the new machine and see if you can recognize drives on the LSI controller, if not then use the 6 onboard SATA ports if that is enough for the drives. Otherwise purchase an Areca 1320 which is only like 230 bucks for the 8 port version. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816151116R

  • WLC to use Management Interface & Few more getting started Questions

    Hello,
I'm yet to implement the Wireless LAN in one of our client's corporate office. There 40 x 1130AG LWAPP AP's and 4404 WLC with ACS 4.x for the Authentication of the Wireless Clients who is trying to access the LAN.
For the WLC to connect to the Dual Core Switch, i need to use only one Management Interface with Distribution System port 1 being the Primary and mapping the DS Port 2 as the Backup port for the Management Interface. Is this Right? or do i have configure Dynamic Interfaces as well. Is management interface for accessing / management and configuration only? Management Interface will communicate with ACS for AAA and AP's who would like to associate with the WLC, is this Right?
Note: WLC, AP's, Wireless Clients & AP's are in the same IP Subnet.
Few other question of WLAN's so it helps me during implementation -
    • Can I use the 802.1x Authentication application found in the Windows XP for the Wireless Interface; instead of Cisco Client Application. For this; I have to configure the WLC / Wireless Client to use EAP algorithm; is this Right?
    • With the help of RRM, the channel interference between multiple AP's (3 - 4 AP's) in the same area is controlled by the WLC by changing the Channels used by the AP which is not same on all the AP's. Is this right?
    • How many Client Users will connect per Channels. 802.11 a / g will provide 11 Channels, is this Right?.
    • I'm trying to set in the WLC to limit the Client connections per AP to 25, can this be achieved?
Please, can anyone help me in calrifying the above points.
    Regards,
    Keshava Raju

Many Thanks Mr. Dennis for your help & Clarification.
With ref to your reply point no# 1. I have actually planned to connect one Gig port of the controller to each of the Dual Cisco Core Switch setup. Can i use all 4 Controller Interfaces configured as LAG and Port 1 & 2 connecting to Core Switch 01 and Port 3 & 4 connecting to Core Switch 02?
I have Final two more questions, Request you to help me calrifying this?
    • I'm willing to configure Multicast communication between the WLC & AP's. For this configuration is it necessary to Connect the WLC in a different VLAN than the VLAN of the AP's. Is it necessary that I have to set the controller to LWAPP Layer 3 mode to support the Multicast communication?
    • Though I do not have implementation experience of the WLAN. My understanding of the Interface settings on the WLC - is I will have to configure one Management Interface for in-band management. Do I have to configure AP-Manager Interface (to support Multicast communication) and to make the WLC to communicate with ACS for Client Authentication. All of the Wireless Devices including the ACS are in one VLAN / IP Subnet, is only one Management Interface is enough for communicating with AP's (with Multicast) and communicating with ACS for forwarding the Authentication messages between the ACS & Wireless Clients?

  • Before upgrading iPhone to 3.0 beta a few basic questions!

We have a few apps up in the store, and I want to upgrade them, so I suppose I need to upgrade my iPhone now to the beta 3.0 firmware.
Before doing so, I'd like to ask those who have gone before me a few simple questions.
    (1) I don't have anything on my iPhone that is earth-shatteringly important. But if I need to, can I restore to OS 2 and get my old email settings and apps back?
    (2) What does updating to the beta 3.0 firmware really mean? Will I get to preview all the core OS 3.0 apps, including the search features, new Camera, Mail and Safari apps, etc.? If so, that sounds like fun.
    (3) What happens when I synch with iTunes while the beta 3.0 firmware is installed? Will normal synch still work?
Thanks for any tips or advice on this. I can't afford to get another iPhone device just to maintain my current apps.

I recommend that you check manage subnet and vlan mapping at the CAS the problem could be located at that level.

  • Stuck at "Setting up a few more things 100%" when upgrading to build 9860

    Hello everyone,
I'm currently running Windows 10 Technical Preview, installed from the setup.exe (so not from a bootable disc/USB-stick), which does work better than I expected. Of course there are many bugs and other problems under the hood, but so far I haven't found
    big issues so far.
Unfortunately, when I try to install the latest build - build 9860 - it keeps hanging at 'Setting up a few more things 100%'. That's really strange, since '100%' should mean it's actually done. I've done about five attempts, none of them resulted in anything
better. After a few attempts, I thought I had to install some updates through Windows Update first, so I did. But after that, installing build 9860 still didn't want to install properly.
Anyone who can help me with this?
Just some key information about the notebook I'm using, in it's necessary:
    ASUS N56VB-S4061H
2.4 GHz quad Intel Core i7-3630QM
    6 GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GT740M

    Hi DutchTom18,
You can try uninstall anti-virus software that has been installed after installation of Windows 10.

  • I have 1 GB RAM on an '07 MacBook Pro. 1) How do I check remaining memory? 2) I have Microsoft office 2004 - do I need to buy more RAM to upgrade to '11? 3) I need a new battery ... Is it worth the $$ to buy a new battery, RAM and Microsoft office 2011?

I have a MacBook Pro from '07 with 1 GB of memory. The battery is shot and my AppleCare has run out. I just upgraded the OS to 10.6.8. But a few questions:
1 - How do I even check how much memory I have left on this computer?
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11 because I can generate pdf's from Word. Roughly how much RAM does Office '11 take up?
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?
Or does it make more sense to just get a new computer entirely? (trying to avoid this).
ANY help would be sooo appreciated! Thanks.

1 - How do I even check how much memory I have left on this computer?
If you're asking how to check to see if you need more RAM, open Activity Monitor and go to the System Memory tab, then compare page outs and page ins.  If page outs is 10% or more of page ins, you probably need more RAM.
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
There's no limit on the number of battery cycles, it's just that the more cycles you've used the more "worn out" your battery gets.  You've got a 4-year-old machine, and if it's still got the original battery, it's probably about time for a replacement battery.  You can check battery health using System Profiler...  look at the Power section under Hardware.
3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11
You don't need Office 2011 to create PDFs.  Any application capable of printing can create PDFs on a Mac.  Just choose File -> Print, but instead of clicking the Print button in the print dialog, click the PDF button and choose Save As PDF in the menu that appears.
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
I'll "ditto" sig's answers to these.
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?
Or does it make more sense to just get a new computer entirely? (trying to avoid this).
If Office 2004 is still working fine for you, stick with that and don't incur the costs of Office 2011.  As to the RAM, only add more if the test I mentioned above indicates that you need it.  If you buy more RAM when you don't really need it, you won't see much (if any) performance improvement.  That just leaves the battery...  and if the machine is still doing what you need it to do and you don't really need a new machine for anything, you could definitely buy a new battery and get a few more years out of it.
