• Problem with Gnome and D-Bus

Hi to all, i have a problem with Gnome and D-Bus
Versions:
Arch Release: 0.7.2 Testing
Gnome:   2.14.1-2
D-Bus: 0.61-3
Screenshot explain all:

1>then i can't promote garnome on this forum??
yeah you can, but not as a solution to gnome related problem in arch. cause this doesn't resolve anything.
2>You don't have to, garnome2.14.2.1(481kb) download the patches and patch it automatically, just change install dir to /usr
(ONLY if you are using console-linux who want gnome a try). of course there is need small arch related patch.(in my experience 0)
eh, i haven't got a clue what this means, putting patches upstream means they will get include in gargnome and upstream releases. i only tried to say we put a lot of our free time in gnome for arch.
2-1>Well said, so choice is the each one's freedom.
and this category isn't arch, this is Desktop Environments,
i installed arch, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEANS I SHOULD USE gnome FROM ARCH!!!
agreed, but again then we won't support your desktop.
ARCH != gnome
3>some bug stuff about Xorg-7.0, include mine

ah bugs.archlinux.org so it can be fixed.

• Problems with GNOME After The Last Upgrade

I have too many problems these days with my Arch box.. And I don't know when or how these problems are solved but I'm really bored about having problem all the time. I don't know all of these are bugs but if they're I'm ready to enter some bug reports.
1) After the last update, Metacity doesn't start automatically. So everytime, I don't have my mouse theme, my thema of borders of the windows, the notes I took with gnome's note applet doesn't disappear.
2) gnome-power-manager is never the same that I used to.. I just found that killing and rerunning it is at least make it work. But it's menus and options is not rich as I was earlier times. It doesn't say that much as it did in the earlier times.

I've same problem with gnome-power-manager, it works only when i kill it with killall gnome-power-monitor and re-run it.
About metacity i don't have problem with it.

• Hi Apple! I am having a few problems with my 6 month old iPad mini (ios 7.1.1). I am using my iPad and then some time later it just restars! Don't know why and it just keeps doing it! Please fix or if I restore my iPad will it do any good? Thank you

Hi Apple! I am having a few problems with my 6 month old iPad mini (ios 7.1.1). I am using my iPad and then some time later it just restars! Don't know why and it just keeps doing it! Please fix or if I restore my iPad will it do any good? Thank you

Plug your iPad into your computer, open iTunes, and click Restore. This will reset your iPad to factory settings, so make sure everything important is stored safely. Once the restore is complete, do NOT restore from your backup.
If you still have problems, take the iPad to the Apple Store or another AASP (Apple Authorised Service Provider). If you're still within warranty, any service will be of no cost. Check your serial number here or find your receipt.
Hope I've helped!
PS: This is a peer-to-peer forum. Apple generally doesn't pay attention here.

• [SOLVED]problem with GNOME and wireless connection

Hi!
I'm new to Arch Linux, and have run into a few problems after installation.
My computer is a HP Pavilion dv6000.
I installed using "xf86-video-nouveau" driver, as i understand this is the best choice for "Nvidia Geforce Go 7400". Is it?
I also installed the complete "gnome", "gnome-extra", "gdm", "gnome-tweak-tool" and "gnome-shell-extensions" packages, but when I boot into gdm login, it automatically starts in fallback mode (the one who has "applications" and "places" in the top panel instead of "activities". What am I doing wrong here?
Btw, when I go to System settings - system info - graphics, there are three lines; "Driver", "Experience", "Forced Fallback Mode". "Driver" line only says driver, and is blank after. "Experience" line says "Fallback".  "Forced Fallback Mode" is set to OFF.
Also, I cannot figure out how to get my wireless network set up correctly.
When i open System Settings - Network, I get an error saying System network is not compatible with this version.
Any help with this woill be greatly appreciated!

-dri driver worked. But if the NVIDIA driver works better, I should probably consider using that one.
I tried to install the NVIDIA binary driver, but when i tried to run
# chmod -X NVIDIA-Linux-x86-290.10.run
# ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-290.10.run
I got a message telling me to close x first.
How can I do this?
Ho ho ho buddy, I see you're trying to install the nvidia driver from the website. Have another look here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nvidia#Installing
the drivers are available through pacman Installing the driver through pacman will automatically take care of removing things that conflict and installing things you need to ge t the NVIDIA driver to work.
NVIDIA _might_ be better, 3d support in nouveau is still somewhat experimental and nouveau doesn't have all the power management features yet. It'll be something to experiment with. Have a good read of the NVIDIA and NOUVEAU wiki articles

As for the wireless issue, I googled around a bit and found that the driver I need is ilw3945.
I added this to /etc/rc.conf:
DAEMONS=(...ilw3945...)
as it seems the drivers are included in udev.
However, when i try to open System Settings -> Network, it says
The system network services are not compatible with this version.
So I'm getting a little restless to find out what I can do to get the wireless network configurated properly, and how I can do it.
Any ideas?
First I think you've fundamentally misunderstood something. Drivers for linux come in module form, not in DAEMON form. A DAEMON is an application that runs in the background (sound server, network service, etc etc).
ilw3945 would have to be added to your MODULES section in /etc/rc.conf if that is the module you need.
humor me and post the output of this command:
$ lspci

• Few problems with PS Elements 11

Hi everybody,
I have a problem with my PS Elements 11. I was working on trial and then decided to buy full version, however few things seems to work different than on my trial and I can't find solution.
1) When I copy one image to another it makes transparent layer on it altho capacity is set on 100% still. On my trial image copied or cuted to another pic was looking exactly as original and after I could lower transparency by lowering capacity.
2) When I want to use normal brush and make just one spot, or paint with one line not with a lot of points or other symbols. I thought aerograph function is the reason but it paints with it and normal the same (as many symbols)
3) When I select part of image with square selection tool it makes a circle with it or rounded field but somehow square selected image is finally copied. It seems it finds some borders on img by itself and changes selected square to it.
I would be very glad if someone could help me to resolve those issues. I will feel free to post others also if I they will come to my mind.
thanks!

Thank you for your information about my problem with PSE 11. I have since tried the programme on 2 different computers and it works fine. Seems like the problem is with my computer although my old PSE 10 works okay. I'd appreciate any ideas about what could be wrong with my computer to cause my photos to break up into various segments which don't join together particularly when I move them into 'before and after horizontal' or '......vertical' and even when zooming them. • A few Problems with my Zen Mi

Hi I have had my player for just over year now and a few problems have just come up. First off the power switch is getting harder and harder to use. I am having to push the power button pretty hard now and have to hold it for a little while. Also when connect my player into the computer and go into the creative mediasouce player and click to access my zen micro it says its not connected.
Can anyone help me with these problems.
Its a 5gb zen micro version .02.05 if that means anything

Regarding your connection problems, are you using WMP? It is known to cause connection problems with the Zens.
Have you tried reinstalling the Creative Software?
Have you tried the connection with another PC IF available?
And regarding the power button, I'm guess that it is due to aging? I still have my Zen Micro (even though I use my ZVM) and I do have to hold the power button a little bit longer than before (3-5 seconds more) for it to turn on. Same happens when I use the lock mode (I just tried it)
and it's kinda rough for it to push instantly (effortless but still feels a little rough).
Good luck with your connection, let us know if it worked!

• A few problems with my site I'd be grateful for help with...

Hi, I'm encountering some strange problems with my website, and I'd be really appreciative if anyone could help me. The site's live so I've included links to help anyone kind enough to respond. Thanks in advance.
1. On many of the pages, a scrollbar appears at the width of the container as opposed to the browser window. The 'clear' property doesn't seem to work, (although I am quite new to it so could have made some sort of basic error).
http://austinlindsay.com/suretowin.html
2. I'm having difficulty with the 'screenshots' on the left hand side of the page. First, the larger images should only appear when hovering over the thumbnails, but they seem to appear when hovering over the space where they appear.
The second problem is trying to make the background of the larger images consistent with their individual images in the foreground. Problem is the background always have a fixed width across the page. You can see what I mean when hovering over the final screenshot (called 'Scoreboard')
http://austinlindsay.com/virtuoso.html
Two problems with the 'Featured' section. The central link jilts slightly when hovered over. It's really strange. I've tested it by changing the order and putting a different link in the centre, and found it's not a problem with a link, it's a problem with it being positioned centrally. I couldn't find a solution for it, though. The final problem with this is that a horizontal scrollbar appear when hovering over any of the links (apart from the final one, Logos, for some reason).
http://austinlindsay.com/
I know there's a lot of problems here, but thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

No, there is definitely no height property on the container (or the content which is causing the problem). But to be fair,  it may be because the content that gets hidden is, until hovered over, not visible. I've posted the code for that below, along with the container if anyone could help?

• A few problems with the ipod touch

Hi all,
Just trying to get some feedback from everyone. Firstly I love the ipod touch, I reckon it was a great buy compared to all the other new ipods (please dun shoot me on this, this is my opinion :P) but I've noticed some problems with it and was wondering if anyone else has the same problems.
Firstly when I sync the touch to my computer and change the name/details of 1 movie file, when I go back to the touch in the videos section the frame that is used on the list goes missing and defaults into the generic one (the grey looking monitor). I'm not sure why. I cannot get it back no matter what I try.
Another thing, I swap back and forth syncing using my MacBook Pro and my Toshiba Tecra (XP SP2) depending on which one I'm using at that particular moment. It's fine for music, but when I try to upload any kind of movies on the Tecra it seems to give me a BSOD. Something to do with the QT program files clashing with the system. Anyone had this problem before? And as a result I would just go to my MBP to upload movies and such.
Any kind of feedback and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time all.

Try here (you likely tried most of these).

When I edit my site in the Muse application, this is how it looks:
When I publish it, this is how it looks:
On top of this, similar things are happening with the length of master pages not correlating with the individual content pages. Can anybody explain this and maybe suggest how I can fix it? Obviously this is unusuable at the moment so I'm in need of a fix. Thanks.

As to your installation problems I'm not sure I have enough information to help you there. What do you mean by initialize? Are you having this problem with every program you install? What program and version are you trying to install?
As to the problem playing Windows Media Files there are plenty of players out there. One that I use is called VLC. It's a free solution and will play a wide variety of formats.

• A few problems with IMAP on N78

Hello,
I'm the owner of a Nokia N78 and i'm trying to read my email using IMAP over TLS. It partially works, but I encounter several problems.
The mail server is a dedicated server I run with some friends. It runs Dovecot as an IMAP server, and it uses the Maildir scheme for mail storage. I also sort my mail using many subdirectories. The overall setup works well, I've been reading and managing that mail account using IMAP with Thunderbird for years.
I configured the phone to use my mail account, and it connects to the server and download headers from the inbox without any problem. The two problems I encounter are the following :
- Reading messages is abnormally complicated. When I want to read a message from the inbox which is not downloaded yet, the software asks me if i want to download it, i accept, it connects to the mail server, downloads the message, and displays... a blank screen showing only the "Subject:" word, as if the mail was totally empty. When i go back to the message list, the message I was trying to read has disappeared. I must then connect again to the mail server (using "Options > Connect") to make the message appear again (and marked as downloaded) in the list, and only then can I read it.
- I can't access the other directories. The phone manages to list them, I can see them in Retrieval settings > Folder subscriptions, I can subscribe to some of them and they appear in the list with the Inbox, but when i navigate inside them they are always empty. Options > Connect and Options > Download mail > All don't do anything.
I searched the web and this forum but I found nobody with a similar problem. I tried it many times with many different connections (UMTS, GPRS/EDGE, several wifi networks). I have no problem sending mail (through SMTP/StartTLS) using the same application and the same server. The phone's firmware is up to date.
Message Edited by endyfourbe on 21-Oct-2008 09:08 PM

hello,
I never tried to connect to a dovecot server but I do use N78 to connect via IMAP to Gmail on a standard, not secure, connection. I usually retrieve only the headers for the Inbox then I decide if I want to retrieve the message and then I ask for the attachments. So I guess the 3 steps approach to the email is correct, usually you do it with the same connection open but it could happen that the remote server is closing the connection and so the phone is bringing down the interface for packet data connection.
I mean nothing strange in the 3 stage retrieval, the disconnect could be some problem with dovecot.
The rest looks really weird, maybe I will try to subscribe to different folders and see what happens.

• [SOLVED] Problems with gnome on T420s (nvidia optimus)

Hello everyone,
after finally managing to successfully launch a simple x session on my laptop I thought installing gnome would be an easy thing. Unfortunately gnome (or my hardware) does not think the same and so after installing gnome successfully, I fail to execute gdm succesfully
Let me provide some more info (logs etc. below):
configure my system to run gnome as desktop environment
using PRIME to handle both devices (disabling intenal or discrete graphics card is not an option since I need it)
this implies not to use bumblebee - I'm very grateful to the work people invested in working everything but it comes with too many disadvantes regarding stability future updates in my eyes
I appreciate any comment and will provide more infos if needed, I also appreciate everything that will improve my understanding of the follwing (related) topics:
KMS in relation to configuration for drivers
xorg configuration and debugging
Logs etc.

Ok ok update! I now managed to launch gdm by executing it as root...
su gdm
I have to admit that I'm still quite lost for It doesn't seem to provide anything else than blank screen with cursor and top bar... (so no login and no logout for example) There still seems to be missing a lot...
Can someone please help out?

• Autofs.service causing problems with gnome's save dialog boxes

Recently I have been having a problem saving files to disk using the gnome save dialog box when autofs is running. Basically what happens is most of the folders on the right side of the save dialog disappear (see screenshot below) and remaining few become unresponsive when clicked. If I wait a few minutes the folders will eventually appear and work when clicked, but needless to say this is annoying.
I can "fix" this  problem instantly by simply running systemctl stop autofs.service, but this is not a good solution because I like the convenience of mounting my  NFS shares on demand.
