A few questions about using PS3 with 27" iMac display...

Hey people, I had a few questions about how I could possibly get my ps3 connected to the iMac's 27" screen. First of all, could you guys list some adapters that would be able to convert the HDMI to Mini displayport? That would be great. The only one I know of is that Dr. Bott Digital Video link.
Okay secondly, I was wondering if I do get the the ps3 connected with the iMac's display with an adapter to convert HDMI to mini DisplayPort, would it be in HD? Would I be able to play ps3 games or watch blu-ray movies in 1080p HD format?
Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
This has been asked a number of times here since the intro of the 27" iMac. The answer is very expensive US$149 or more converters and sometimes even more expensive to maintain the resolutions that you seek.

  • Question about using Logic with guitar on stage. HELP!

    Hello,
    I'm a guitarist.
I would need some advises about using Logic in a live situation..
How do you move from one track to the other using the keyboard?
Could that action be controlled by some kind of footswitch?
Also, the REC button has to be always ON to hear the sound or is there another way to set that up?
I would like to create let's say 6 tracks with plugins for having 6 different guitar sounds.
Is it very heavy for the CPU?
I'm using a macbook with 2GB of ram and a firewire FA-66 edirol sound card.
Would you also recommend to use a preamp?
Many many thanks for your help!

Why to jump from one track to another?
Simply create a folder with all the Channel strip settings and assign two key commands of your choice to navigate forward and backward.
And yes, you can assign that command to a MIDI controller (or pedal) too.
About monitoring have a look at the reference manual page 211.
Before to buy a preamp try using the Hi-Z input from your Edirol.
Anyway, six tracks with six plugins on each track are not an issue for your macbook.

  • A few questions about Vista on my Intel iMac

Don't worry, I'm a die-hard Apple fan, but when it comes to gaming, I'm stuck booting into Windows. Right now, I have Windows XP, but would like to update it now to Vista to try it out and I have a few questions. To start out, I have the Intel Core Duo of course, but was wondering if these processors supported the 64-bit version of Vista. I found out the hard way that by not installing the 64-bit version of XP, it liked to run very slow. Also, how easy would it be to install Vista with Boot Camp? I think that's all I have for now.

Actually, it is Apple's responsibility to make iTunes Vista compatible. iTunes is Apple software, so on Vista it would be considered 3rd party software. Just as it is Microsoft's responsibility to make Media Player Mac compatible, which they have chosen not to do, but instead have abandoned the technology on the Mac platform, which is where Flip4Mac comes in.

  • Question about using RE1000 with EA6500

I have an EA6500 route but having problem getting wireless signal to one room in my house.  As a result, I am thinking about buying RE1000.
If I buy this unit, will I need to connect to a different network when using wireless devices in the room near the extender.
Or will both the extender and router operate as a single wireless network name?  If they both operate under a single wireless name, how will I know the extender is connecting and working.
    Please let me know.  Thanks.

Just to answer your question, RE1000 will extend your router's main wireless network - so they will operate with single / same wireless network name. You'll know that the extender is connected and working if you'll be able to see the RE1000 listed on your router's DHCP client's table.

  • A few questions about using an XML file to add text into a TextArea component set as html

    I'm using AS2 in Flash CS3.
I have a TextArea component in the stage that's loading its text from an XML and I've been able to use the ul and li tags to create lists. However, when I try to include a nested list it just inserts a line break between the nested list and the main list rather than indent it further. Is there a solution for this issue?
Failing that, how would I be able to add non-breaking spaces into the XML so they will render inside the TextArea component? I've tried   and   without success. I scoured the net for some help with this and found some information about modifying the font embedding xml file with a new entry for the non-breaking space and that didn't work either, so that leaves me somewhat stumped.

flash doesn't handle nested lists (as you now know).  you can work-around that limitation using css and creating your own indent styles.  css have a marginLeft property you can use.

  • Question About Using iPhoto With Sony Wireless Auto Import

I just bought a Sony DSC-RX100M2 and I'm very excited about the prospect of sending my photos wirelessly to my Retina MacBook Pro OSX 10.9.1.
I use iPhoto but I just know the basics.
I just imported 2 test pictures.
I can find them in Finder: My Home folder has a folder called Pictures.  Sony placed a folder there called 2-14-14 (i.e. today's date), and the two pictures were in that folder.
I opened iPhoto and imported those pictures into my photo library.  Great.
Now the question.  Once these pictures have been imported into my photo library, can I delete the 2-14-14 folder (and its contents) created by the Sony import?  It seems that I can, and the pictures are still in my photo library.  But if that is the case, where are the pictures?
Mind you, I don't really need to "know" where the files are.  I just need to be assured that after I import a photo into the photo library, I can delete the original folder where the import came in from my camera (which I think I've just proven to myself that I can?).
I'm sorry, this is probably basic stuff for most iphoto users, but I just want to make sure that I do not accidentally trash any photos.
    Thanks

As you said - in your iPhoto library

  • Question about using FaceTime with an external monitor!

    Greetings!
Is it possible to use a third party webcam for FaceTime chat when connected to an external monitor?
I am currently using a mid-2012 macbook pro.
    Thank you!

ThatKid26 wrote:...Is it possible to use a third party webcam for FaceTime chat when connected to an external monitor?...
Yes if the camera is Mac compatible.  It will work with an Apple external monitor with camera.
As shown in this image using my old Mac Pro and LED Cinema Display:
when your Mac recognizes more than one connected camera, you can select the camera you want by clicking the appropriate item in the FaceTime > Video menu item.
Your choices will be different.  In your case of using a MPB, you may also see its built-in FaceTime HD camera.  However, you will be able to choose from compatible cameras that your Mac recognizes.
If you haven't yet bought, take your MBP along when you shop so you can try before you buy.  That way you will KNOW the answer to your compatibility questions.

  • Question about using aliases with ASM

    Hi ALL,
Recently I get using ASM  at test database and I have a question regarding how I can use ALIAS feature :
I've created alias for one of database file:
    SQL> alter diskgroup DATA add alias '+DATA/test1/datafile/app_data_01.dbf' for '+DATA/test1/datafile/app_data.266.824722429';
I've tried to see it in v$datafile but unsuccessful:
    SQL> select name from v$datafile where name like '%app_data_01%';
    no rows selected
Try  use to see in in dba_data_files, unsucessful again:
    SQL> select file_name from dba_data_files  where file_name  like '%app_data_01%';
    no rows selected
I've tried to use created alias , but unsucessfull again:
    SQL> alter database datafile '+DATA/test1/datafile/app_data_01.dbf' resize 12M;
alter database datafile '+DATA/test1/datafile/app_data_01.dbf' resize 12M
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01516: nonexistent log file, data file, or temporary file "+DATA/test1/datafile/app_data_01.dbf"
Could someone, please, clarify how I can use aliases created for files in ASM ?

    Hi ,
Is there any specific reason for adding alias.
I would suggest to keep name with physical format .
Because, this will allow us to identify which file_number of ASM level related to which tablespace at database level.
    Like ,
    +DATA/test1/datafile/app_data.266.824722429
file_number 266 of ASM of diskgroup DATA  is related to app_data tablespace of database test1.

  • Question about using calendar with Microsoft Exchange

I just recently bought the iPhone5.  I used to have a Droid so I am new to the iPhone altogether.  I have a 3rd generation iPad as well.  I've always used my google calendar on my droid to set up appointments and whatnot on my calendar and I send the invites to my husband so we can sync our calendars.  He would then accept or decline and I would get an email notification saying when he did so.  Now that I am using the iPad and iPhone calendar, I am super confused.  There are so many color coded calendars.  I set up the Microsoft Exchange account on both mine and my husbands phone and I set the default calendar to the Gmail Exchange calendar as someone told me to do.  I'm very confused by what this is all about and my husband still isn't getting the invitations when I send it to his gmail.  However, when I sent it to his aol email address, he did receive an invite but on my calendar it is still showing as "no response".  Also, now we are getting emails in 2 different gmail inboxes, one for the exchange and one for just gmail.  What's the difference?  Can anyone shed some light on this for me?  I'm such a newbie and googling isn't helping!
    Thanks!!!!

  • Question about using iPod with a Mobile Mulitmedia system

    Hi All,
I bought my wife a 16g 4th genration iPod Nano to use with her Valor Mobile Multimedia system in her car. When she plugs the iPod in the system via the iPod cable, all it says is "connecting". It seems to recognize the iPod but doesn't fully connect with it to play the music. I've tried my daughter's older generation Nano and it works fine as does my 60g video iPod.
I've tried to contact Valor but their website isn't very intuitive. I've left a message with their tech support as well as emailed them, No repsonses yet.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks all.

The tv connects to your tv via HDMI or component.
The tv plays video either from it's hard drive which it gets by syncing it from the contents of your itunes library on your PC or by streaming it directly (as it plays it) from the itunes library on your PC.
Data from itunes can be sent to the tv either by ethernet or wifi.

  • Quick question about using Time Machine on iMac FireWire external

I have been backing up my MacBook using Time Machine via a USB external hard drive that is connected to my iMac. Now when I look at the Time Machine setting in my MacBook is says that the MacBook NEEDS to be plugged in in order for the next backup to occur. This is no issue for me, but I am wondering if this has always been the case. It may have been something that I overlooked, but I do not remember seeing that message when using Time Machine over my network on my MacBook before.

Yes, that's correct. TM will not backup a laptop while it's operating only on battery unless you upgrade to 10.5.3. This latest version provides a TM option to run backups when the computer is on battery power.
It's inadvisable to run a backup while on battery power because if the battery goes dead your backup could become corrupted. At the very least files may not get backed up as expected.

  • Question about using 10g/11g and APEX ...

    Hi,
I just recently learned of Oracle's APEX and have a few questions about using it.
Can I use APEX with express, standard, and enterprise editions of 10g and 11g?
Are all of these free to use?

You might want to read about APEX rather than jumping into questions that are reasonably well documented. Info at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html
    Your specific questions:
    1) Apex is a package that can be installed into any properly licensed database.
    2) The price for the production license of the database varies by edition.
The price for Express Edition is $0 for use in production. Part of the cost for that edition is 'no Oracle Support based support, no patches, data volume limitation, etc.'

I have a question about using multiple ipads in our school.  Each of our teachers have a iPad and AppleTV in their classroom.  The issue is, with our classrooms so close in proximity to one another, is there a way to pair teacher #1 iPad to its AppleTV without effecting/projecting onto the adjacent teachers #2 classroom AppleTV?

    Not as such.
Give the AppleTV units unique names and also enable Airplay password in settings with unique passwords for each teacher.

  • Questions about using Bitlocker without TPM

We currently use Bitlocker to encrypt our Windows 7 computers with TPM. Now we are looking at encrypting some Windows 7 computers without a TPM. I see how to change the group policy setting to allow Bitlocker without a TPM. I have looked at a lot of other
threads and I have a few questions about how the Bitlocker without TPM works.
    1) I see a USB drive containing a key is required for Bitlocker configurations without a TPM, say the end user loses this USB drive, what are the recovery options for their computer?
This article seems to indicate that without the USB drive connected, you are unable to even access recovery options http://blogs.technet.com/b/hugofe/archive/2010/10/29/bitlocker-without-tpm.aspx
We have recovery backed up to AD when Bitlocker is enabled, but how could we do this recovery on a computer on computer where it's USB is lost? Would we have to remove the HD itself and attach it to another computer to access?
    2) After enabling Bitlocker on a computer without a TPM and using the USB Drive for the key, is there a way to also add a PIN or password protection at bootup?

    Hi,
    Sorry for my dilatory reply,
Configuring a startup key is another method to enable a higher level of security with the TPM. The startup key is a key stored on a USB flash drive, and the USB flash drive must be inserted every time the computer starts. The startup key is used to provide
another factor of authentication in conjunction with TPM authentication. To use a USB flash drive as a startup key, the USB flash drive must be formatted by using the NTFS, FAT, or FAT32 file system.
You must have a startup key to use BitLocker on a non-TPM computer.

  • A few questions about Patone colors

I have a few questions about patone colors since this is the first time I use them. I want to use them to create a letterhead and business cards in two colors.
    1)
I do understand that the uncoated is more washed out than the coated patone colors. I heard that this is because the way paper absorbs the inkt. This is why the same inkt results in different colors on different paper (right?). My question is why is the patone uncoated black so much different than normal black (c=0 m=0 y=0 k=100) or rich black:
When I print a normal document with cmyk, I can get pretty dark black colors. Why is it that I cannot have that dark black color with patone colors? Even text documents printed on a cheap printer can get a darker color than the Patone color. It just looks way too grey for me.
    2) For a first mockup, I want to print the patone colors as cmyk (since I put like 10 different colors on a page for fast comparison). I know that these cmyk colors differ from the patone colors and that I cannot get a 100% representation. But is there a way to convert patone to cmyk values?
I hope that some of you can help me out with my questions.
    Thanks.

You can get Pantone's CMYK tints in Illustrator, (Swatches Panel > Open Swatch Library > Color Books > PANTONE+ Color Bridge Coated or Uncoated) but in my view, what's the point?  If you're printing to a digital printer, just use RGB (HSB) or CMYK. Personally, I never use Pantone's CMYK so-called "equivalents."
Pantone colors are all mixed pigmented inks, many of which fluoresce beyond the gamut limits of RGB and especially CMYK. The original Pantone Matching System (PMS) was created for the printing industry. It outlined pigmented ink formulations for each of its colors.
Most digital printers (laser or inkjet) use CMYK. The CMYK color gamut is MUCH SMALLER than what many mixed inks, printed on either coated or uncoated papers can deliver. When you specify non-coated Pantone ink in AI, according to Pantone's conversion tables, AI tries to "approximate" what that color will look like on an uncoated sheet, using CMYK. -- In my opinion, this has little relevance to real-world conditions, and is to be avoided in most situations.
If your project is going to be printed on a printing press with spot Pantone inks, then by all means, use Pantone colors. But don't trust the screen colors; rather get a Pantone swatch book and look at the actual inks on both coated and uncoated papers, according to the stock you will use on the press.
With the printing industry rapidly dwindling in favor of the web and inkjet printers, Pantone has attempted to extend its relevance beyond the pull-date by publishing (in books and in software alliances, with such as Adobe) its old PMS inks, and their supposed LAB and CMYK equivalents. I say "supposed" because again, RGB monitors and CMYK inks can never be literally equivalent to many Pantone inks. But if you're going to print your project on a printing press, Pantone inks are still very relevant as "spot colors."
I also set my AI Preferences > Appearance of Black to both Display All Blacks Accurately, and Output All Blacks Accurately. The only exception to this might be when printing on a digital printer, where there should be no registration issues.
Rich black in AI is a screen phenomenon, unless in Prefs > Appearance of Black, you also specify "Output All Inks As Rich Black," -- something I would NEVER do if outputting for an actual printing press. I always set my blacks in AI to "Output All Blacks Acurately" when outputting for a press. If you fail to do this, then on the press you will see any minor registration problems, with C, M, and Y peeking out, especially around black type.  UGH!
    Good luck!  :+)
