  • TM fails a few seconds after starting first backup

So I buy the 1TB GForce Phantom drive and hook it up via my FireWire 800 on my Dual G5 Tower running Leopard 10.5.2. Using the Disk Utility I partition it into two HFS Extended volumes, naming the second one TimeMachine.
I fire up the TM application for the first time and configure it to use this mounted volume. A few seconds after starting the first backup, it quits with an Error 11.
Below is a clip of the Console log.

I finally had an opportunity to repair permissions and test TM again.
It still aborts with the error 11.
I think it has to do with a file or files in the directory /.TechToolProItems
So I'm going to delete all the files in this directory so that Tech tool will rebuild them. I'll let you know the results.

Yes but there's no point doing it here. As the Terms of Use make quite clear this is a User to User forum. It's Users like you talking to other Users. It's not a channel to communicate with Apple.

  • Mouse cursor freezes a few seconds after start-up? Need help!

    Laptop: Samsung Series 9
    OS: Windows 8.1
Problem: since booting up my computer today, my cursor will freeze about 30 seconds after boot-up. Prior to this, I'll be able to move my cursor for a few seconds as I normally would, but then I will inevitably see the blue loading circle next to the cursor
and then my cursor will be frozen in place. I can still use my keyboard/everything else functions regularly. I decided to boot up my computer in safe mode and my cursor works fine. Clearly then, there must be some software/start-up issue?
I should note that I used my laptop fine yesterday night. When I booted it up today my cursor froze and I saw the restart prompt that said windows will restart on its own in 1 day to update. So I updated/restarted and the problem persists.

    Hi,

I tried different suggestions from the Internet, but nothing worked. The following haiku came to mind:
    Errors have occurred.
We won't tell you where or why.
    Lazy programmers.
I finally completely wiped out entire Acrobat family from my computer - uninstalled it, then manually removed all Acrobat-related folders and registry entries I could find, and re-installed Acrobat Pro from scratch. That did it.

  • Pavilion dv6z notebook - shut down a few seconds after pressing the power button

Pavilion vd6z powers up for 5 seconds (I see the HP logo screen and the Windows startup asks if it should launch the Repair or Start Normally) then it shuts off.
I have removed the battery/disconnected the adapter and held the power button in for over a minute several times, removed and replaced the memory, blown the dust from the cooling fan & heat sink.  I also have tried booting with the hard drive removed.  The same issue exists if I have the battery in or not.  After all of the these steps, the system still starts up and then powers off after just a couple seconds.
If I press ESC to enter SETUP, the system will still power off.
The warranty expired a few weeks ago and HP tech support can not help me...other than suggesting that I put a post on the forum.
Has anyone experience a similar problem and found a solution?

    Hello again visionpga.
If you've used known working memory and the problem still exists then you've ruled out many of the causes as you've tried testing all the hardware which you can test. I believe you're experiencing a motherboard issue which is likely a short. This repair is possible for you to do yourself if you have technical experience or you could have the notebook repaired by HP.
If you want to try repairing the notebook yourself I'll need your product number. This document shows how to locate the product number.
The US/Canadian number for HP Support is 1-800-474-6836. If you're in another country you'll need to visit HP Support Worldwide to locate the contact information.
If you have any other questions just let me know.
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

  • ITunes stops working a few seconds after start-up - frustrating!!!

    Hello guys
I figured it would be better to submit this, since I wasn't able to find anything like it. It seems that people experience this when they do something specifically, but this is not my case. So long I have tried this:
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
But I can't locate the folder "iTunes" under Program Files (x86) - I can't find that folder anywhere, to be honest.
When I opened iTunes this morning it seemed to run completely normal for about five - six seconds, then the message "iTunes has stopped working.", came up and all I could do was to try again. This problem happens everytime I open the program now, always after a couple of seconds. I can do whatever I want in that period of time, the message always pops up and after that it's over. Yes, I've tried restarting my computer and those kind of things. I'm using Windows 8.1 - please help! Music really means alot to me, so this is extremely frustrating since I was about to sync a new album.
Anyway, thanks for your time and take care.

Try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT) as you start iTunes, then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

  • Latest version of firefox crashing a few seconds after starting

Hello, after updating to the latest version of Android Firefox (33.0), the app keeps stopping (doesn't force close, just kicks me back to my homescreen).
Have tried clearing cache and clearing data, which doesn't achieve anything, can't see anything amiss in the logcat.
Are there any known bugs that might cause this? Are there any diagnostics that I can run to help isolate what might be causing the issue?

If reinstalling does not resolve this issue there are some more troubleshooting steps to take including having clear steps for reproducing.
There are some resources that can be helpful in this situation:

  • HP Split X2 randomly hangs every few seconds after start-up

My HP Split X2 running Windows 8.1 will sometimes, not all of the time, act very very slowly during shut down and boot up. The spinning dots spin very slowly, and the lock screen and login screens are very laggy. Then, after about 15 minutes, everything goes back to normal performance.
And, this problem doesn't even happen all of the time. Yesterday, for almost the entire day, it acted this way. Then, at night, it was normal, and is normal as I type this. What's more is that when it happens, I watch the Task Manager, and CPU, Memory, and Disk are all normal. No spikes in usage. I have also confirmed that no automatic maintenance is running during this time (this was the case a few times in the past so I eliminated this as a root cause). I also ran full system diagnostics (Esc and then F2 during boot) and no problems were found.
Anyone else had this random, not always reproducible problem? How can I troubleshoot it if it doesn't happen all of the time?

the one I have is exactly as you describe too.
When it is having its episode the mouse pad is totally random and you cannot select anything although the touch screen i less so but I cannot select my password via picture in win 8.1.
Again i have scanned for malware and virus, the machine has all the latest from microsoft and HP.
My ralink wireless card is next to useless if i am more than 2 meters from the router is this a common fault also?

    Hello,

  • Photoshop Elements 12 stops working a few minutes after starting the application

I need technical support for this problem.

This is definitely a Spaces/Mision Control-related issue - I disabled the keyboard shortcuts and the issue goes away. Of course this is not a solution as I need keyboard shortcuts to be productive.
I think it has something to do with the control key being mapped to multiple functions. This issue cropped up for me only after upgrading to Lion. When I upgraded to Lion for some reason the left control key took on the same function as the "Application Windows" function in Mission Control (which is assigned by default to F10). I went into the Keyboard shortcuts settings and can't see where the left control key is being mapped so I can't remove it. I think for me this is the cause of the spaces keyboard shortcut issue - something in the system is grabbing onto the left control key function and fighting with Mission Control when I hit control-1 or control-left to switch desktops. When this happens the keyboard no longer responds to most keypresses and I have to kill the dock to restore functionality.
If anyone else could confirm that their left control key is invoking the "Application Windows" function I think we can narrow down the issue and possible come up with a solution. Please report back and I'll do the same. Also, Apple, please take onus and address this issue as I believe it's not related to third-party software.

  • Notebook freezes few seconds after start. Overheat? New video cable?

Hello and thanks for your attention.
    HP Pavillion DV5-1235e
    Windows Vista
    4 years old.
I wanted to clean the fan on my laptop since it is 4 years old now. So I had to take apart everything and took it back together. I did remove the old thermal paste and putted some new.  Except that I didn't change anything. And I also canged the video cable for a new one.
My first attepmt to start didn't end well. I pressed the power button my notebook started but the sreen didn't start and from there on he didn't even boot. (the HDD led didn't blink ) So i found a solution for that. pulled out the power suply, pressed the power button for 30-60 sec. Puted the power back and viola! It worked. But I didn't even open a web browser and the laptop freezed. So i pressed the power button for 3 sec and the laptop turned off. Turned it back on I had the same problem as in the first attemp. So had to pull out power suply, press power button , put power suply back on and it worked again but i didn't have time to open speedfan to see the temp so I don't know what happend actualy. The fan is rotating. the thermo paste is new. everything should work fine.
edit: I managed to start speedfan. The temperatures were low. The lowest I have ever seen them. But he still freezed
edit2: In safe mode. it works longer but freezes(does freeze and the monitor turns off)
Thank you who made it to this point.
    Looking forward the anwsers.

  • Cannot start stopped servers, after restarting the SIA all stopped working

All was working ok, but suddenly I could not run reports from Infoview nor from the Central Managment Console.  Nontheless, I was able to log in to both (just not run the reports).  From the CMC, I noticed that 5 servers had stopped running, but remained enabled.  I tried starting/restarting each of them from CMC, but had no response.  I then looked at the properties for each of these servers and noticed the same message in red stating "The Server Intelligence Agent for this server is unavailable".  I then went to the Central Configuration Manager at the server where Crystal Reports Server 2008 is installed and launched the Server Manager tool which showed a list of servers.  From here, I looked at the Server Intelligence Agent properties and when I clicked on the configuration tab, it asked for me to select from a list of radio buttons of which connection type (if remember correctly) to use...there was no cancel or close option to back out of this, so I randomly chose the oracle type (which is what or ERP system uses as a backend), then was forced to save the changes.  Nonetheless, this did not seem to have any effect then, I still had the same problem/issue stated above.  I then, following a suggestion, restarted the Server Intelligence Agent.  Unfortunately, right after this restart all the servers disappeared from the list of servers in the CCM.  In addition, now I can't even login to any of the tools (CMC, Infoview,...) the only place I still can launch is the CCM; however, I cannot access the Server Manager tool in CMC.  After entering my credentials, it idles for hours with no response).  I'm stock with no way to do any further work...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I saw something similiar once when using SAP authentication(you didn't mention which auth model you are using).
If the license you installed was a named user (vs. concurrent user) and you picked the opposite setting in the CMC Authentication section, then you won't be able to login.

  • Hi, I am prompted to download the latest  Tunes software (10.7) but after starting the process is stopped and the massage says "Errors occured while installing, if the problem persists choose Tools download only) This process also stops part way through

Hi, I am prompted to download the latest I Tunes software (10.7) (I have done this sucessfully for other versions many times before)
The process starts but stops quite quickly.A message pops up "Errors have occured while installing updates, if the problem persists choose Tools>Download Only and install manually" When I try this it still fails but another message pops up "Invalid signature, the download has been removed"
Not very sharp on computers so any help would be appreciated.
