I'll take a look at the CSS but I'm not going to be modifying the wiki-server on Leopard as there seems to be little point with the next release isn't far off. I'll be putting it to use when I upgrade.
Contacts - it's something i've thought about. The place I used to work at had Netscape Directory Server and Imperia (CMS), we managed to add a nice search feature on the intranet there which was always used. It would be great if it was easy enough to add another search button with that accessing open directory or something similar. We'll always keep the FMPro database though as I use it in conjunction with a few other DB's, so it's not a big deal. Integrating FMPro would have been handy for accessing a few of our other databases in one single place.
You are right, you can't turn off editing on individual pages or the blog/wiki. For me it would be great, as it would allow the intranet to be more of a group experience. If the company was 10 or 20 people then it would be an easier decision to allow them all write access to it. We are just over 100 in London now and that makes it more likely someone will get too button happy with their mouse. Still we have an easy to use intranet out of this, which cost us nothing so I can't complain. If we outgrow the wiki server faster than Apple add features we're not too stuck and could move it to Wordpress or similar. I am looking forward to adding podcasting and the mailing list features in the next release.

A formal 'Hello' to the community and a few Arch-related questions

Hi guys.
As a long-time Genoo and part-time Arch user I finally made the switch to Arch complete. Since I've been reading here quite a lot in the last year I thought I could as well create an account (acutally I did that a while back but never used it) and say hello.
I've been running Arch on my laptop for about the last year. Coming from gentoo as my first ever Linux experience, Arch seemed the next logical step whenever I should grow weary of endless compiles and re-compiles (which is about now). I'm an enthusiastic Xmonad user which is why I'm particularily fond of this forum and it's Xmonad community. That's also the reason why I stumbled upon arch in the first place. So far it hasn't let me down once and I'm really happy with my (now 2) setups.
With a little help of some of you guys on IRC I installed Arch64 on a RocketRaid 2310 Raid5 a few days ago. It's running really smooth and I'm quite impressed by the overall difference (in speed and usability) of kdemod KDE4 to my gentoo compiled one.
For those interested as to how exactly I installed (there seems to be quite some controversy about the RocketRaid cards), here's how I did it:
1) Boot from the Arch64 install cd
2) Set up the environment for compilation of the driver:
- fire up the network
- edit the mirror file to my likings (a whole lot of German mirrors over here)
- blacklist the packages kernel26, ndiswrapper, ndiswrapper-utils and tiacx
The kernel shouldn't be updated unless anyone knows some magic kexec tricks from inside a live environment
The other packages somehow depend on the kernel package
3) Pacman -Suy base-devel
4) Download the driver package, unpack and make
5) rmmod sata_mv, modprobe rr2310_00 (The sata_mv module has to be unmounted, otherwise the raid controller will crash
6) Mount the raid drive and install
I did a manual installation since that's what i'm used to from gentoo (and since I don't trust the installer all too far with the whole raid setup) and the rest of it went pretty smoothly. I had to go for by-label uuid'ing my partitions though because they come in randomly on each boot.
I do have a question now:
Is there any way to conveniently trigger rebuilding the RocketRaid driver whenever a new kernel has been installed? I did create my own PKGBUILD of the driver from an old one that's in the aur so all it would take is to tell pacman that every update of kernel26 should automatically force-update the driver even though it's version hasn't changed. The alternative is of course to just keep compiling my own kernel as I did on gentoo but I'd like to not have to think about any of that stuff and just use the system.
Or, if anyone has another cool idea how to handle this, I'm open to that too.

I didn't think this was such a big deal. Also they way I did it, though working for me, is not the most elegant solution. One would rather build his own install cd with the driver included that then can serve as a backup system in case the raid driver is not rebuilt after a kernel update.

A few NANO related questions...

ok, first of all, is there a way to remove contacts?
second, my battery life is somewhat bad. i listen to it probably about 4 hours every day and the battery is empty (or atleast at red) by the end of the day. part1, is my battery faulty or is this normal? part2, if it is faulty, will they take a few days to replace the battery or give me a new ipod whole.
third, my ipod skips. i have experienced two types of skipping: first, it will replay maybe 3 seconds of a song, and the other form is one im more concerned about; it will be playing a song then cut to a whole other song for maybe 20 seconds then go back to the first song. is this something (FutureShop, Canada) will replace (with the extra warrenty)?
also, the scratching is bad!!!

If you're wanting to just delete one contact you should create a group in your Address Book and put in all the contacts you want to have in your Nano. Then in iTunes's preferences deselect the entire Address Book and then select just the group you created. Now you can add or remove people from that group and easily change what's on the Nano.
If you want to remove all of the contacts just uncheck the contacts. That should remove them from the Nano.
Regarding the other issues, I'd see about either reformatting it and resyncing your tunes, etc. or returning it to Apple for a new one. I don't know how you'd reformat it. If you go that route and find out how post back. I'd like to know.

A few Nakisa Database questions

Hi All,
[Our version is 3.0 SP1. ]
I have a database related questions that I cannot seem to get from our current Nakisa resources.
- Do you have a recommendation for the DB landscape. All on the same server, or is it recommended to have OC and OM DB on separate DBs (as long as there is plenty of room). [Or does any of this not even matter].
- Also, is it OK to put each DB on 2008 Servers? I was just approached with a question from someone who thought he read/heard that there was a 2005 dependent aspect to Nakisa. Does that make sense and/or is it true? I think our QA DBs are all on 2008, but I was requested to track this down to get a definitive answer.

Defining the best fit for the database is probably going to be tied somewhat to the local environment. What is standard practice? What capacity does a server have in terms of computational throughput (CPU, RAM, disk access rates), network speed and storage? Factor in ease of backup and resilience that might be afforded by hosting the database on a dedicated SQL server vs. any inherent cost associated with running it on such a server - if you don't need all the extras, it may not be cost effective. As long as the database is accessible and the performance is accessible, you're onto a winner.
The Master Guide for 3.0 lists "Microsoft SQL 2000 SP4, 2005". With SP2 another Master Guide was released that lists "Microsoft SQL 2005, 2008". So running SP1 against SQL 2008 doesn't look as though it is officially supported, but if you went to SP2 it would.

Two related questions: ColdFusion 10/Java applications and J2EE supported servers

I have two related questions:
1. CF10 and integration with Java Web applications
We have a couple of Java applications running on JRun and interfacing with CF9 applications. The JRun clusters were created through the JRun Admin and, apart from lack of Axis 2.0 support, have served us well for years now. And, as would be the case, the ColdFusion9/Java/Flash application is a critical public-facing application that the business uses for bidding on projects.
It appears that with ColdFusion 10 on Tomcat, we will not be able to run those Java applications on a Tomcat-CF10 JVM cluster. Is this correct? IF so, what are our options?
2. J2EE Application Servers supported by Adobe for CF10
Which of these is correct?
A. This URL (http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion-enterprise/faq.html) states "ColdFusion 10 supports IBM® WebSphere, Oracle® WebLogic, Adobe JRun, Apache Tomcat, and JBoss."
B. This URL (http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/products/coldfusion/pdfs/cf1 0/coldfusion10-support-matrix.pdf) states:
"J2EE application servers: WebLogic Server 10.3, 11.1, WebSphere Application Server 7, ND 7 JBoss 5.1, 6.0, 7.1.0"
I *think* "A" above is wrong re. support for Adobe JRun. It does not specify a version of Apache Tomcat unless it is simply referring to the custom version the comes with CF10.
Option "B" above shows no support of Adobe JRun or 'standard' Apache Tomcat.

Question 2: No answer yet: Is Apache Tomcat (NOT Adobe's customized version) supported for CF10 J2EE deployment? I do not see any installation instructions on how to install CF10 on Apache Tomcat 6 or 7.
Is anybody using Apache Tomcat as their J2EE app servers and, again, NOT Adobe's customized/limited version?

I had used abuse reports for some, but numbers of such posts are many.

I hate to say this, but I often see the same thing, and I've never been able to figure out exactly what triggers selectability vs. non-selectability, but I suspect some of it has to do with tranparency flattening in particular, and possibly text wrap in cases where that comes into play. ID optimizes the PDF it creates, I think, and that might cause text, or even images, to be broken into chunks in funny ways. It occurs to me that turning off optimzing for fast web view might help in this regard.

A few post config questions on new setup

Hi Group,
Just a few post config questions.
First, how can I confirm my controller is in fact associating properly with an NTP server? On a typically cisco product, I could just do a 'show ntp associations' or a 'show ntp status'. I cannot see a way to confirm this on the gui or command line.
Second, on my guest network with web-auth, if one were to choose to not use https for web-auth and instead use unsecure http, would that be possible and if so where in the gui?

The third field is from a WLC running v7.4 not v7.2. I usually would install a 3rd party certificate, but what eles you can try is issue this command on from the CLI. It had issues working with certain code versions, but you might as well give it a try.

Hi Vishal,
I'll try to answer your questions as best I can.
1) It is definitely possible to preload data to the 32MB memory (per group) and start the acquisition after you have preloaded the memory. There are example programs on ni.com/support under Example Code for pattern generation and the 6534 that demonstrate which functions to use for this. Also, if your PC memory buffer is less than 32MB, it will automatically be loaded to the card. If you are in continuous mode however, you can choose to loop using the on-board memory or you can constantly be reading the PC memory buffer as you update it with your application environment.
2) Yes, your data will automatically be loaded into the card's onboard memory. It will however be transferred as quickly as possible to the DMA FIFO on the card and then transferred to the PC memory buffer through DMA. It is not going to wait until the whole onboard memory is filled before it transfers. It will transfer throughout the acquisition process.
3) Vishal, searching the example programs will give you many of the details of programming this type of application. I don't know you application software so I can't give you the exact functions but it is easiest to look at the examples on the net (or the shipping examples with your software). Now if you are acquiring 512 bytes of data, you will start to fill your onboard memory and at the same time, data will be sent to the DMA FIFO. When the FIFO is ready to send data to the PC memory buffer, it will (the exact algorithm is dependent on many things regarding how large the DMA packet is etc.).
4) If I understand you correctly, you want to know if you waste the other 6 bits if you only need to acquire on 10 lines. The answer to this is Yes. Although you are only acquiring 10 bits, it is acquired as a complete word (16bits) and packed and sent using DMA. You application software (NI-DAQ driver) will filter out the last 6 bits of non-data.

Color related question.

Hi,
I've searched all over these forums looking for answers to seemingly a very simple problem. Sorry if this has been answered some other place. I work mainly in web but am putting together a resume (pdf) with samples of my work for e-mailing potential employers. I've got a few best practice questions/assumptions and am looking for clarification. They are:
1) The images I'm using are screen grabs and thus RGB images. I'm assuming my resume will not be printed so i'm working in the RGB blend space.
2) Given thisI've set my swatches to be RGB process color.
3) I'm working with a monitor profile of sRGB.
4) I'm working with a customized proof setup of sRGB.
When I export the pdf (smallest files size without color conversion) there is a shift on color. If I'm doing the above 4 things correctly why is this? How can I ensure accurate colors when I export the pdf? I don't get it, what am I missing?

Your monitor profile should be a profile of your monitor, so using an editing space like sRGB or AdobeRGB as your display profile breaks color management because neither of those likely profile of your particular monitor. There are hardware and software solutions for coming up with an accurate display profile. On the Mac there's a calibration routine in System Prefs>Displays>Color>Calibrate which works quite well—you set your display to a desired gamma and color temperature and a corresponding profile is generated and installed.
Once your monitor is calibrated and profiled you can edit color in different color spaces (without adjusting your monitor) either by assigning a profile to individual documents or setting your application's Working Space to the desired profile. So, if you are editing RGB images destined for print you would assign a large space (something like AdobeRGB). If the destination is the web you would assign sRGB, which is a smaller space but more representative of a generic uncalibrated display.

I just got a call today that I reached my 300GB limit for the month. I called and got a pretty rude response from the security and data usage department. The guy told me in so many words that if I do not like or agree with the policy that I should feel free to find another service provider.!!! I tried to explain that we watch Netflix and XFinity on-demand alot and I was told that that can not be anywhere close to the data usage. I checked my router and watching a "super HD, dolby 5.1" TV show on Netflix will average about 5-6 GB per hour (1.6MB/s) ... sp this means that I can only watch no more than 1-2 Super HD TV shows a day via Netflix before I run out of my data usage. This seems a bit redicilous doesn't it? Maybe the TV ads about the higher speed than the competition should be accompanied with "as long as you don't use it too often" Not a good experience ...

Ok, I’ve been developing Windows apps since Win 3.1 (yeah, a long time) and have always admired the Microsoft attitude towards Developers and it’s desire to educate and empower R&D.
So, I’m wondering what’s going on? Why am I being asked to have an account to develop anything for MY own PC? Why am I being asked for my Microsoft account password, repeatedly, when I’m just looking up documentation on UserControl or C3 keywords…
repeatedly? This is nothing short of annoying and it gives me pause and concern about the ecosystem. Is the plan to lock down programmer’s capabilities, knowledge and tools?
I’m involved in the TAP program for Windows 10 and have voiced concerns in the same category with regard to installation and deployment of Universal Apps. Security is not a reasonable excuse. Some of us love to program and actually
control their PCs. We are not planning to sell everything we write on the Windows Store. What happened to programming something cool for your home network or just for friends? We need, and used to have, Microsoft’s support in doing
this sort of thing. Documentation and tools are more important now than ever. I’m saddened to see the direction things are heading…
If there is a sane reason I’m being badgered to ‘log in’ to read .NET documentation every hour, please share. If not, please consider lobbying to get things back on track.
