A firmware fo Rhomba

I have bought a Rhomba Nx some days ago; but there is no support even in the creative site. There is no sign of my mp3 player in the listboxes.
I want to download a firmware for my mp3 player and get some information about the date of production of my player. Please lead me.

Random reboots not fixed! heard the update was to fix iPlayer niggles and remote control responsiveness.

If I want to connect my player to the PC nothing happens! So how can I get the firmware on my player or is there any Rescue Mode and how do I access it's

    Poddy,
There is more detail on these procedures on our knowledgebase, here.
These parts in particular may help:
If your Creative Rhomba displays the following message:
    HOLD KEY ON?Error: CODE 0000000
there may have been a error during the formatting process. To resolve this error message, move the Hold button to the On position. The display System Checking will appear. When it is completed, it will turn itself off. Switch the Hold button off, and then turn on Rhomba player.
And the part that refers to resetting and formatting the player.

  • Driver (not Firmware) Rhomba

Just finished a new install of Win XP (Sp2) and earstwhile son wants me to transfer a couple of new tracks onto his Rhomba. I've have installed all the files from the installation CD (only driver I can find on the CD is for Win 98) and zilch. XP does not recognise the Rhomba, states that it is a faulty USB device. I have looked high and low for a driver on the net and the only one out there is for Win 98. There certainly is not one on the Creative site. I have the latest firmware ready to load onto the Rhomba as well, but without the PC recognising the pesky MP3 I can't even do that!
How am I going to get XP to recognise the Rhomba without a driver?
Any help would be extremely appreciated.

OK solution found. Go to Device Manager, ID the malfunctioning USB device (not recognised Rhomba), select properties, uninstall the driver. Remove Rhomba USB cable, turn Rhomba off. Turn Rhomba back on, plug USB cable back in, driver automatically found by XP for Rhomba.
    Problem fixed.

I have already tried moving the Hold button to the On position. The display Checking System message appears but now after 8+ hours nothing more has happened. I'm sure it shouldn't take this long for a format/resetting to complete.
What can I do to resolve this issue?

I have a Rhomba 256. One week out of warranty it developed the problem described above. I cannot succesfully reformat as I get a bad block error. Creative support confirm that it is probably a hardware problem. They offered to replace it for half of what it cost originally. This player was treated lovingly and never abused or mishandled. I think it is outrageous that it broke so soon. It is especially upsetting as it was only one week out of warranty.
I refuse to pay to have it fixed or replaced. So, I have decided to upgrade. I researched all makes of player and have decided that I will NEVER buy Creative again. Looking through the forum here, I see so many faults and problems that are more than user incompetence. This, other forums and personal experience confirm to me that there is definitely a lack of robustness in the software and hardware design of Creative players.
I have opted for an iri'ver H320 which, so far, has proved to be excellent in every way. It has features and an ease of use missing in Creative players of the same spec. The iri'ver user forums (http://www.misticri'ver.net/boards/) are extensi've and devote most of their time to dealing with features and learning and not tales of woe due to hardware problems. iri'ver may be a bit more expensi've, but I think it is well worth it.
Goodbye forever,Creative and good luck to all you have bought their players. I hope your experience is better than mine. If you haven't purchased a player yet, my advice is to look to other manufacturers.

That's normal. What you are seeing is the difference between how storage manufacturers and operating systems makers measure capacity volume. For hard dri'ves, floppy dri'ves, USB thumb dri'ves, and others makers calculate with MB=000KB. For OS they calculate with MB=024KB. That is why you seem to be losing space on the player and some other storage for firmware and the File Allocation Table..

  • Creative Rhomba Firmware Problem / Won't Conn

My 28MB Creative Rhomba, which I received for free with my PC in December 2004 and has been working fine until now, suddenly stopped working without my notice. I was charging it this afternoon and transferred some files to it, then removed the transfer cord a while after that and neglected to verify its working state. When I turned it on, I received an apparently common error telling me to download firmware among other undecipherable things. I downloaded the firmware but my PC and the firmware executable can't detect my player. When I plug it in, it turns itself on like it used to but my PC doesn't recognize it as a new dri've. Because of that, not only can I not install the firmware but I also cannot format the player as seems to be the typical repair procedure. After searching through the knowledge base, this forum, and briefly the rest of the internet, I have discovered no suitable alternati've method of restoration. Any help would, hypothetically, be appreciated.

    chloroform42,
Have you try the Format steps as mention in the Knowledgebase?

Has the player actually stopped working? From the error message it looks as if it came aross a problem but sorted it out.
If it doesn't work then you could try reloading the firmware. Get it from here, including full instructions.

    mastermigi,
Check the knowledgebase article SID2359. Look under 'How do I reset/format my Creative Rhomba?' Format the player using this method and then download the firmware from the download page to update the player.

  • Wierd Rhomba Is

    HI all,
I've had the 28MB rhomba for some time with no problems till now. I've always upgraded the firmware and things have worked out ok.
Until recently when my computer stop recognising the Rhomba. Im not sure why. I first thought it was a cable issue, but you can see it charge (but not like it does when the computer recognises the player). Let me explain.
When the computer recognises the player it says connected and charging with the charging percentage printed.
Now when I connect the cable to the computer it powers on the player (without me having to press the play button) and takes it to the main MP3 playing screen. The small battery display on the top right corner then starts charging (like the cell phone displays). So the cable it probably ok.
I then formatted the player, did both a full and quick format. but the computer doest still not reconginse the player.
I tried this on 3 different computers with differnet operating systems (win XP, 2000, 98 and even Fedora Linux) all with the same problem.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks a lot guys.

Thanks a lot for helping me out guys. I couldnt have done it without you.
I was just about to throw my rhomba in the trash can and swearing never to buy another creative product when I just for the heck of it started recording some voice onto it. I played back that voice recording and lo and behold when i plugged it back into the computer I was able to see the player.
Another software glitch I guess cos earlier the player was empty after the format and it couldn't even be recognised.
Works fine now, so im keeping my fingers crossed. Im still never buying another Vreati've product tho.!

  • Hi there, Rhomba problem

    First hi there,
I got the Rhoma 256MB for christmas 2003. Seven months later it crashed.... Can?t remember why, it was some formation prob thingy. Than the display didn?t work, I searched the whole internet for an answear. So I bought the Archos 28 SP, pretty good player. So now, 6 months later I looked at my Rhomba and wanted it back^^. Now I can start the Rhomba, the display lights up for a few secs(just backlight, no letters) than it'ss out again. When I connect it to PC, there is nothing wrong with, I can create folders and fill them etc., and there is the record folder and the config. dat. So the HardDisc is allright, but why doesn?t it show anything? I called the creative helpline, they said they can't help me! So can u help me?
    Thanks,
    Tongu3!

You may have your operating system on the Rhomba corrupted. First try formating your player through your computer then follew these steps:
It is recommended that you download and install the latest firmware first if possible. The latest firmware update added a recovery option for your player. After you have successfully installed the new firmware (V. .07.), do the following to enter Recovery Mode:
[*]Turn off your player [*]Slide the Hold switch in the direction indicated by an arrow. [*]Press and hold both the Volume "+" and "-" buttons. [*]While holding the buttons, press and hold the Play/Pause button for 3 seconds. Recovery mode appears. Use the scroll wheat to select a format option (Full Format vs Quick Format). [*]Slide the Hold switch to the right after the player is formatted.
If your player has firmware version .05, try the following procedure:
[*]Make sure the unit is fully charged. [*]Power down the player and disconnect it from the PC. [*]Use your thumb to evenly press and hold both the Volume Plus (+)and Minus (-)buttons simultaneously, and then briefly tap the PLAY button. [*]The Format Mode appears on the LCD screen, use the Menu Scroller to highlight "Full Format" [*]Press and hold (for 2 seconds) the REC button to select Full Format. [*]The LCD now displays: Formatting Wait for Check [*]After around 0 seconds the LCD instructs you to push the HOLD slider to the ON position. [*]Push HOLD slider to ON</LI>

  • RHOMBA 256MB: LASTTRACK SUBFOL

My Rhomba 256 refuses to play certain MP3s. It always shows "LASTTRACK SUBFOLDER" on top of the display along with a permanently visible question mark in the title icon. What's wrong with these MP3s? I can't find the difference to others, that work.
    Thanx for help!

    Guys,
This is really annoying. I bought this player for my wife. She was happy using it for about a month or two, and then it stopped working completley. We followed the reset procedure, and loaded the latest firmware. This required us to format the device and lose all the music on it. Uploaded a new collection and were happy for two more days, now it is dead again. Will we need to go through this every couple of days?
    HELP!!!!
