A Forum That is Slower Than Jive!

I wouldn't have thought it possible, but I found a forum that is slower than Jive!
I'm tired of "not my kind of book" letters from literary agents, so am going to go Amazon/Kindle as soon as I finish the 2nd book of a 2 book set
When reading about Kindle publishing at http://forums.kindledirectpublishing.com/kdpforums/forumindex.jspa I discovered a REALLY slow to load forum
Oh well... hopefully the process will be simple, once I'm ready, and I won't have to ask many questions in that forum

>good luck with getting it published
Grin... will not be a problem AT ALL with Amazon/Kindle, since it is free to upload... and then it is just a matter of seeing how many people look for a book in your chosen genre, and buy what you offer after reading the synopsis (actually, one message on the Kindle user-to-user forum said the 1st 10% of the book is put in a preview section for people to read for free to make a decision)
When my 2nd book is finished in a few months, I'll see how many people want to read a murder mystery with paranormal elements

  • Why does this forum perform much slower than form forum in metalink?

I feel strongly that this forum performs much slower than the form forum in metalink where there are even more active and more issues created there.
I don't know why Oracle creates two form forum, which one is faster and another one is slower.
What is the difference b/w them besides here is jsp pages and over there is plsql pages?

Oracle certainly allows you to have users that do not have roles. Or users that don't have any system privileges. Or users that don't have any object privileges.
If you want the query to return a row for every row in DBA_USERS, you would need to outer join all the other tables to DBA_USERS.

  • Why is my 4g Internet running so slow? My download speed is 22.0 mb/s and upload speed is 18.0 mb/s. I ran a test to find that out. Idk if that's slower than what it's supposed to read out at but it's taking forever to watch videos online. Help?

My Internet on my iPhone 4S w/ 4g started running slow a month or 2 ago and has t changed since. It takes several minutes just to buffer short online vids and way longer if its over 2-3 minutes. Pages are loading slow. Downloading aps is a nightmare too. Any thing I can do to improve speed on it? I've only had the phone for 6 months or so.

One thing I've noticed is that a shared tab pops up when I open the finder under "favorites" with a random connection. It's called hp68b... None of my friends that I live with have this and we all use the same internet. Two days ago when I would click it and click get info, it said it was a pc. When I checked it today it said it is a "sharepoint" and looks like a harddrive.
I took it too the store after i spilt water on it but when I got it back it ran perfectly fine. I don't know a lot about computer so if somebody could help me. It says I'm connected to it and I can't disconnect or delete it. I don't know if the guy at the computer store put something in my computer and is sharing all my files.

  • MBA that much slower than i5 MBP or MB?

I just went to best buy to try them out and was almost sold on the MBA until I tried something as simple as zooming into a picture and the MBA was worthlessly slow. Even the 2.8ghz mb was a lot better. Is the MBA really that slow with functions as absolutely basic as zooming into a pic?
To give an idea, the MBA basically locked up several times when trying to perform this function. They had three models on display and all were the same.

I was just making a point...
For whatever reason, every MBA at best buy had weird slow downs and quirks. They were also slow loading webpages. Even the MBP's weren't as fluid as that video. Maybe best buy crapware?
Very possible. Maybe they were retrofitted with N570s?

  • Is Safari really slower than Firefox?!

    Hello,
I'm trying to migrate to Safari, after years of using Firefox. One unsettling thing I've discovered is that for some reason when I click a bookmark in Safari very often there is a pregnant pause before it takes my to the requested page. Sometimes it freezes up all together & never takes me to the page so I have to retry getting to the page. This never happended with Firefox.
Are my Safari settings somehow off or is Safari really that much slower than Firefox?
    Thanks.
    Jim

Something's not right. Safari and Firefox should load pages the same.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select:  Clear History / Remove all website data / Clear the Downloads list
Click Reset. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting extensions and third party plug-ins.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

Hi, the last install dvd that came out for mac's was Snow Leopard,10.6.3. Lion is a download from apple. You cannot just install it over Yosemite. You would have to backup your drive to save files you want and do a clean install. You might want to look into getting more memory. You can run 8 Gig"s of memory on your Macbook Pro.If your Macbook Pro is getting really slow you might want to download EtreCheck  and then post the results here.http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck  Check out this article.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19031

  • Wired slower than wireless- how can that be? WRT54GS-6

I cannot understand how this is possible. On my Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster - WRT54GS - 6, the ethernet port is significantly slower than the the wireless? Do I have to change some setting?

When you say that your "ethernet" is slower that your "wireless" , what do you mean ? IS the ethernet slower that the wireless when you are surfing the web, or is it slow when you want to transfer files from one PC to another in your network ?
In case your ethernet is slower than the wireless when surfing the web,I'd suggest that you upgrade the firmware of the router.
Also ensure that you do not have any kind of firewalls running on your PC.

If You Think iOS 7 Feels Slow Here’s How to Speed It Up
    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • In older version I had modified .JS in nsloginmanager to allow remembering my bank sites etc. How do I do that now. By the way 4.0 is slower than 3.6

How do I do that now. By the way 4.0 is slower than 3.6. Your new look sucks requires more clicks. I used it a day and had to go back to 3.6

For sideloaded content the nook pulls the metadata from ePub file itself.  I would suggest looking at a program like Sigil or Calibre that will let you edit the metadata in the book to make it appear like you want.
For the PDF vs ePub - No, that's the way PDFs work (think of them as graphics, not text), wheres ePubs are Web Pages - so  no you can't them to behave exactly alike without converting the files.

  • Why is InDesign CC significantly SLOWER than CS6?

InDesign CC is noticeably SLOWER in almost every aspect and functionality than is the latest version of InDesign CS6 on my computer (OSX 10.9.4, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, 27 inch iMac). I have stopped using Indesign CC and now only use CS6 to create and adjust documents.
Can any staff or special users in this forum detail ADOBE's understanding or response to complaints of this nature?
This situation does not bode well for me, given the coerced direction Adobe is taking users of its creative suite (towards cloud based subscription systems).

I rebuilt all my preferences and that led to some kind of discovery. Starting InDesign CC everthing works ok (though the drawing tools are slightly slower than in CS6, creating a new page for example is much faster). All the following things mainly have an impact on drawing tools (pen tool, rectangle tool etc. placing multiple images is also affected but maybe because an image frame has to be drawn). After activating the application frame things start to slow down a bit. If I open the collapsed panels on right side things get slowed down again and the biggest hit on performance is evident when the information panel is open.
I wanted to record a screen-capture again but this is so slow that it does not represent the bug accurately. And I guess this has something to do with the user interface because all is linked to interface actions (application frame, opening/collapsing panels, showing the information panel)
Once again my system specs (when experiencing the issues half of my RAM was still free with Safari, Mail and InDesign CS6 and CC open for comparison):
    InDesign CC (German)
    Mac OS 10.8.4
    MacBook Pro 17inch
    8 GB RAM
    2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
500 GB HD (200 GB free)

  • In CS6, JavaScript Running MUCH Slower than ActionScript

    Hi All,
I am finding that in CS6, JS code runs MUCH slower than ActionScript code. I don't want to double-post here - Full details may be found where I posted them in the InDesign Scripting forum at  - CS6 JavaScript Running Much Slower than ActionScript, before I realized that this forum might be more appropriate.
The basic gist of it is that I had a Flex/ActionScript Extension, which I obviously needed to start converting to JavaScript in advance of the next version not supporting ActionScript. I converted 20,000 lines of my business logic code from ActionScript to JavaScript (grrr...) - only to find that it now runs 5 times slower than it did in ActionScript.
What has been the experience of others who have converted large Extensions from ActionScript to JavaScript?
I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions.
    TIA,
    mlavie

  • ACR processing in CS6 much slower than CS5

A big advantage of hosting ACR in 64 bit CS5 vs in bridge was that then ACR would process multiple images at once when saving them to jpg which would reduce processing times by 30% or more. For some reason this doesn't seem to be the case with CS6. I just did a short test and CS6 won't process multiple images at once, and was 33% slower than CS5 at saving a batch of 5dmkii images to jpeg.
Has anyone else noticed this? Hopefully this limitation is due to beta status and the final release of ACR will be fully optimized for 64bit processing.

It seems strange that their is hardly any improvement in 64 bit cs6 speed vs 32 bit cs5.    I agree, gpu support for acr would great!

Bridge in CS5 was 32 bit only, and I observed the 32 bit converter as run by Bridge (or Photoshop 32 bit) wouldn't exercise all the cores, so the way I interpret your numbers is as follows:
    1.  ACR7 is 50% slower than its predecessor (34.25 seconds when run in Photoshop 64 bit vs. 22.59).
    2.  Bridge is now 64 bit, so you're running the same code in both cases, which is why you're seeing essentially the same number in Bridge as Photoshop.

  • 10.5 is slower than OSX 10.4

When I'm on a particular credit card's web site with my PowerBook G4 running OSX 10.4.11 and Safari v3.1.2 the site runs briskly.
When I'm on that same site with my Intel MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5.5 and Safari v3.1.2 the site runs too slowly to use. The browser times out prior to my getting to the page I need. Same problem with the latest versions of FireFox, OmniWeb and iCab browsers on the MacBook Pro.
On each computer I'm using the same QualComm 3G wireless modem in the same location in my home. In this setting it seems OSX 10.5 is slower than OSX 10.4. Anyone know why and how to fix this?
