A free app update charged my credit card
Why was I charged for a free app update?
If the charge is approximately $1 it's an authorization hold. Apple does this to verify your iTunes account.

on my I-phone when i upadate apps it charges my credit card does it suppose to do like that, because on windows if you update anything it dont charge
You will only be charged when you purchase an App. Update on purchased App(s) through your Phone or PC iTunes should not involve any charges.
However, whenever you do your update over your phone, you are always being asked to login to verify your id but there will not be charge involved. -
I want to use an iTunes gift card as the back up for in app purchases for a so called free app instead of my credit card or having my bank account emptied.
How can I do this? I saw something about gift cards can only be used for music or movies, not apps. You can use an iTunes gift card for app, music, movies and other media. To redeem one see:

If you only want the free apps, take a look here:

Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)
Regards.

Do app updates reflect on credit card bills?
I bought apps on AppStore using my mother's credit card and I got scolded for that.
Now that it has an update, I am uncertain to update it because I'm not sure if it will again reflect to her bills.
Please advise. Thanks.Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Application updates are free, so they won't appear in her credit card -
How can I edit my account to only download free apps without entering a credit card
How can I edit my account to only download free apps and not enter a credit card?
The only way to have the "None option is to buy a free app then choose create appleid. Setting up any other way will not have none option. You will need card to continue. You can remove it afterwards in itunes on the computer.
Itunes>itunes store (on left)>Account (on right)>edit payment info - Set to none. -

My Apple ID will not download free apps without entering a credit card.
When I try to download, it says the ID has not yet been used in iTunes and to review my account. When I do, it requires a credit card. There is no 'None' option for payment. I've searched the message boards and cannot figure out how to get past this. I should not have to enter a credit card until I want to buy something. I'd appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Unable to purchase free apps even though no credit card on Apple ID
Hello
We have set up an Apple ID with no credit card attached. Yet when I use this to purchase my first free app, the prompts take me through the 'This is the first time you have used your ID to purchase' screens where I accept disclaimers etc; then it asks me to confirm my details, including credit card details. As this Apple ID has no credit card details, then it asks me to input some. I can only choose Visa or Mastercard; the 'none' option is not available.
Yet when I look at the instructions on how to set up an Apple ID with no credit card, you normally get asked to choose between 'Visa', 'Mastercard', or 'None'.
It seems we have set up this Apple ID before the 'None' option existed, yet we've managed to set it up with blank credit card fields.
Now it seems to be 'stuck' in credit-card land.
Is there any way to revert it to a non-credit card Apple ID so that I can buy free apps?
Any help appreciatedSorry all - I have solved this already
It seems you are enforced to log in by inputting a credit card; however once you have signed in, you then have the option to revert the ID back to a completely 'non-credit card' Apple ID as per
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918
So you just need to supply a credit card for the first time, then wipe it out immediately after logging in successfully -
Why are free apps asking for my credit card?

App store charges my credit card even tho I have 49$ balance in my account?
I just brought my first "valuble" game off the app store and apple didn't took credit off my balance and instead charged me with my credit card. so what, the store balance isn't universal?
Hmm...thats odd. Store credit is just that. It should be able to be used all over the store. I think that Apple is still working out some of the kinks with the App Store and charging consumers. Call Apple and ask them about it, and if you want, ask them to dispute the charge on your credit card and apply the purchase to your store credits. Or if you really want to, since they messed up, ask for a refund and to keep the app! XD
