A gaming question - sims

Hi, I am a complete novice with a mac, having only bought one in August this year.
The macbook I bought has 2.2Ghz core 2 duo 1Gb memory and 120 Gb hard drive.
I have installed Sims 2 for Mac and when trying to run it I am getting an error message saying it needs at least 1mb of free space.
What does this mean? Does it mean my macbook isn't of a high enough spec?? If so does that mean I can't use it for any gaming??
I have had a few problems and am starting to wonder if I have made a big mistake in going with apple
Please help!

I'm having the same issue! Hopefully someone will reply who knows.
My MacBook Pro is 2.4 Ghz...4GB...250GB@4200 rpm...I just got it on Oct 25...I can't believe its giving me that message...I have more than enough memory to run that game....its ridiculous!!! I ordered the upgrade to the OS and now I'm seeing posts where this game wont even work with the new OS...I hope I get better clarification this weekend on everything!!!

That doesn't make any sense to me at all, unless the games you're trying to play have some sort of online connection/capability and you're in a weak signal area, thus the games can't make the required online connection. • My new MSI Z77A-G45 Gaming question

    Hello MSI forums ,
I'm building a gaming system for my son. The MB i picked was the MSI Z77A-G45 Gaming and it just arrived from newegg. Just a quick question.
The MB arrived w/ out shrink wrap and the MB itself seems to be slightly warped or curved. Is this normal? I purchased a MSI Z77A-GD65 a few months ago for myself and I can't remember if it had shrink-wrap on it or not but I'm sure I didn't see any warping on the GD65.
Anyway, over the last two months I've build two complete systems all from newegg and i haven't had one issue, so good luck for me so far.
    thanks!

Not even a security flap or tab seal on any of mine, so no shrink wrap I can recall. Slight curve should pose no problem once it is tightened down in the case.

  • Best Tablet for Mobile Gaming Questions (?)

Guys, right now, what's the best tablet out there for mobile gaming?  The best tablet/phone optimized for mobile gaming as well? (like Modern Combat 4, etc.) What's the tablet that has the best GPU? (I know Tegra 4 is around the corner but I only want to know what's out now) What are synthetic benchmarks? What's the opposite of synthetic benchmarks? Are these synthetic benchmarks?

  • Macbook pro retina 15" fan gaming question

    Hi everybody,
I plain to buy a macbook pro retina 15" but i would like to get feedbacks from users who also plays with it.
Anyone here got this laptop and world of warcraft, diablo 3 or starcraft 2 under osx ?
Is the fan or the heat going crazy after some minutes of gaming like other pc gaming laptop ?
And under bootcamp with windows 7 or windows 8, is it noisy when playing ?
Thanks in advance for your feedbacks, i'm ready to buy it this week, but i would like to get those answers before buying.

    Hi ds store,
I don't think the MacBook Pro I'm talking about has mountain lion, because they were released only a few days ago and come with mavericks installed from the factory

  • Steam Gaming Question

I have a Macbook Pro Mid 2012, and i want to buy Portal 1/2 on steam, my question, is will they work with yosemite? i found out Civ IV won't (without modding system files anyways)
id like to know what I'm getting into before buying.
any insight would be great =)

Portal 1 runs fine on my mid-2009 15" MBP with Yosemite 10.10.1, 2.66GHz core 2 duo and 8GB ram.

  • Simple gaming question, just switched

so i have a couple games from my pc days that im thinking of installing
    diablo and warcraft
my question is they are universal in windows and power pc but
if i tried to install them on my intel based mac on os, would it work? would i need to emulate and so forth?
    thanks!

I have Diablo II and will be getting a MB soon...
As far as I'm aware Diablo II and its expansion have both Windows and Mac installers on the disks.
Since I haven't got my Mac yet I cannot say if the program works however I would be extremely surprised if it did not run.
In fact my only worries are over the fact the it runs in 640x480 or 800x600 - below the native resolution of the MB... I'm hoping the graphics card is smart enough to 'letterbox' the screen

  • Gaming question- Oni (Misplaced I know!)

I know this question doesn't remotely belong here, but I consistently find my best mac resource to be these forums, so please excuse my audacity.
shot in the dark here...Oni...the OmniGroup ported the game to OS X, and I recall it working well on my older G4 desktop. But on my pb running 10.3.9 the game always quits right after launch. I have tried various graphics related fixes, such as lowering screen res, and colors to thousands, etc etc. No luck. I am able to run the carbon version of the game in classic mode, but it doesn't support the second button on the mouse. I would really like to get the OS X native version to run. Any thoughts? Any experience with this game? Please and thank you.

It looks like it does the same as UT2004 in Tiger.
They most probably have or should have created a new installer to patch it.
Have a look here as they have a few updates for games.
    http://macgamefiles.com/index.php
Maybe get the demo and see if it runs better ???
Maybe you can get a emulator and install osx9 on there as it will run natively there independent of the 10.3.9 as if you have another machine ????
    Might just work.

  • Will i be ok Gaming questions

I just ordered a Core Duo MBP 2.16ghz with the 256 ATI card and 2 gigs ram (reburbed). Now ive been a huge windows gamer usually play every title out there but ive recently decided to make the switch after having the pleasure of using my girlfriends macbook. I must say i love the OS!
I pretty much play WoW now and that's it. So since i could play it on a mac i took the dive! With my Dell XPS laptop I was getting average 60FPS. @hat can i expect for the MBP and maybe even in general with mac games?
    Thanks!

    KemosabeMac,
You will have no problems with games on a MBP. I'm not absolutely certain, but I think I have seen reports of as much as 90 FPS in WoW on a MBP.
I generally run games at the highest settings available for that game, and I never have any trouble.
You might encounter games that will not automatically recognize that you are driving a 1680 X 1050 (widescreen) display. Not sure why this is, but there are sometimes workarounds to get the game to run at the display's native resolution, which is always better than running at less. If you encounter a game that doesn't give you the option for 1680 X 1050 resolution, have a look around for the game's ".ini" or ".plist" file. If it can be opened in Text Edit, you might be able to manually set the resolution to 1680 X 1050.

  • Pass SPDIF signal through from In to Out (Gaming) question

So, I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to HD audio and whatnot, so I im learning that I lack the terminology to efficiently search for what I want.
I have a set of Surround Sound headphones (5.1) that I use for both my xbox and PC. The headphones only have optical SPDIF for input.
What I am currently doing is, when I switch between playing on PC and Xbox, I swap the cords over. (I understand that this could be accomplished with an optical SPDIF switch)
But recently I picked up a Soundblaster Z card on the cheap. Now this card has an optical In and Out.
I was wondering if either of the following things are possible with the configuration (while being low enough latency to play games) while maintaining 5.1 sound.
Xbox >> (optical in) Soundblaster (optical out) >> Headset
    1) Be able to just route the 5.1 signal coming into my computer (via optical in) to the optical out, sending it to my headset. I could then just setup a hotkey/macro to switch to this instead of having to swap cables whenever I go from PC to Xbox.
    2) (probably hard to do) Same as above, but also mix the audio form my PC into the signal, so the headset would play a mix of both. (From my understanding, this would involve decoding the signal, mixing in the PC signal, then encoding again).
I know AC3 Filter and Virtual Audio Cable are common tools used.
Are either of the above things possible?

However, it's a lot better if you can make the logic set-based, particularly if thousands of rows can be updated at once. There can be astonishing differences in performance. Admittedly, some logic can be very difficult to do set-based, but nothing of
what you say indicate that that would be the case.

    Hello,
I need to create a multi-player game with an existing flash

the Flash Media Server the best way to go? If the games were

  • Serious gaming Question about MSI P67A-GD65

I really need to know for a fact, I mean really need to know.   I play on getting 2 6990's and put them in CrossfireX.  The thing is I see this board is 2 PCI E 16x but I see PCI E (16x, 8x).  Does that mean the 2nd PCI E slot is running only at 8x?  The sole purpose of having 2 6990s is to max out performance for the whole year.  I see the 5970x2 lasted a whole year and is still faster than the 580GTX.  I want to have 2 6990s to have superior FPS status for the whole year of 2011.  Now if it's only 16x lanes for the top slot but 8x lanes for the last slot then will I see a performance loss of potential than if it was 16x on the bottom too?
MSI P67A-GD65 for 2 ATI 6990's in CrossfireX
If it's only 8x on the bottom then I cannot upgrade to a 2nd card.  I see bench performance differences of 8x vs 16x with the latest cards of the day were massive.  I can see how the cards of today would be even more massive.

The Maximus IV includes an nVidia NF200 PCI-E controller. Regular P67 boards only have 16 total lanes for graphics.
One thing I'm not clear on: the data rate with PCI-E on the P67 is supposed to be double that of the older chipsets. Naively, the data rate on a P67's X8 graphics bus ought to be the same as for one of the older X16s.
A pair of 6990s? Maybe you should have waited for Socket 2011. 40 PCI-E lanes, quad channel memory, 8 core CPUs, etc.
Perhaps the reason why they only have dual 8x and triple 8x not dual 16x or triple 16x.  I think the NF200 chip is just a to make it look more expensive.
The last post in this forum the guy says it decreases performance.
    http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=237334
It adds more latency.  I had an EVGA Killer Xeno Pro which is a hardware NIC for the PC.  When I do head to head headshots on my screen in TF2 against another sniper it shows fire on my barrel but no kill or damage on the shooter after I die.  Even with a ping of 20ms and the other guy had like equal or more.  When I removed and sold it, everytime I see a flash on my screen and I'm lined up properly for the headshot with someone with equal or a bit more ping than me I always get the kill or at least damage before I die.  I honestly thing adding more things was like the P4 architecture having long pipelines.  The longer it takes data to travel the slower it will be and could be significant in performance loss.  I'm going to have 2 ATI 6990's on my MSI board and see what will happen.

Yes, although just a little oc.

Only with MSI vgas of the Gaming series (= even other MSI vgas won't work)

Choose what you like. Both are H87 boards hence no cpu oc possible anyway. VGA boost is not really worth buying a board for. The Gaming board features other extras like Killer LAN and enhanced onboard sound.
