A good oracle learning start

Hello everyone , i intend to strart learning Oracle as i am only familiar with Sql Server, i decided to read the "Concepts" book, i have the three books for Oracle 10g 11g and 12c.
I am wandering wich one to read first, personally i find the one for 10g more interesting as it explains the basis theory, however i was afraid that 11g and 12c might have different technologies and so i might read them first, or is it just the same concepts, for examples the 12c release stands for Cloud, is it different from grid computing or just an extension.Thanks.

Hello, I think you must start with the next links:

  • Good way to start with the learning the 11g concepts

    Hi,
I have a work experience on the BEA weblogic server 8.1 sp4 on which i have worked for about 2 year now. My current assignment requires working with the Installation/ Development and deployment in the Fusion middleware 11g server. Could some body please suggest me a good way to start with the learning the 11g concepts.
I understand that all the documentations are available in the Oracle forum, but i want to understand where to start from.
my core tasks in the assignment would be
    1. installation (OSB on top of WLS).
    2. development/configuration on OSB.
    3. Deployment and administrative tasks.
    regards,
    Prakhar

Hi thanks for the update. I have been going through the links and found them very useful.
    I have few new doubts.
In all the tutorials for getting started with the Fusion middleware, the examples which are given use the Oracle JDeveloper extensively. This IDE is used for implementing the BEPL and other important aspects. I found this very similar to the Workshop IDE initially bundled with the BEA-Weblogic 8.1. Is JDeveloper enhanced to accomodate the features of the Weblogic Workshop IDE?
Also, i need some information regarding the Eclipse IDE which is bundled with the OSB installation. Are there any tutorials available which show how to use the Eclipse IDE with OSB.
Also, can the Eclipse IDE be used to implement the same set of components which are being developed using the JDeveloper in the tutorials.
My concern here is i want to know the best way to start with the training/development. I am already familiar with the Eclipse IDE and donot want to switch to the JDeveloped unless it is absolutely necessary. Can one of these IDE be used repeacebly in place of other.
Please inform me if in case my wuestion is not clear.
    Regards,
    Prakhar

  • Training Administration vs Oracle Learning Management

    Hi,
I am very new to OLM. Can anyone explain what is the difference between Training Admin and Oracle Learning Management.
I referred 11.5.9 and R12 user guides of Oracle Learning Managemnt. I found the Activities, Events in 11.5.9. But in R12 I did't get those. But Activity information is stored in OTA_ACTIVITY_DEFINITIONS Table in R12. Where its coming from?.
    Kindly help me.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Srinivasulu Vakati

Oracle Learning Management (OLM) is the new release of Oracle Training Administration (OTA). There are many different versions of OTA and OLM, and there are major differences in the functionality available and the way content is organized. This cannot be explained in a few lines, you have to read the manuals and the delta documents.
A good place to start would be : "Learning Management: Upgrading from Oracle Training Administration", id= 308352.1 on Metalink.

  • Oracle Learning Management - Training Centre Record Groups

    Hi there,
I'm trying to find out where in the database OLM stores the correct "Training Centre" information, which makes up the drop-dowm select list (LOV) on the "Maintain Class" form.
I have had a look at the Java Source code and there is a record group pointer Training_CenterRG.
I don't know J-Developer to debug this and find the base table information.
When the class was created there was no "centre" cretaed in the ota_events table.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    # This file is provided by Oracle Corporation to help you customize
    # your RDBMS installation for your site. Important system parameters
    # are discussed, and example settings given.
    # Some parameter settings are generic to any size installation.
    # For parameters that require different values in different size
    # installations, three scenarios have been provided: SMALL, MEDIUM
    # and LARGE. Any parameter that needs to be tuned according to
    # installation size will have three settings, each one commented
    # according to installation size.
    # Use the following table to approximate the SGA size needed for the
    # three scenarious provided in this file:
    # -------Installation/Database Size------
    # SMALL MEDIUM LARGE
    # Block 2K 4500K 6800K 17000K

    # To set up a database that multiple instances will be using, place
    # all instance-specific parameters in one file, and then have all
    # of these files point to a master file using the IFILE command.
    # This way, when you change a public
    # parameter, it will automatically change on all instances. This is
    # necessary, since all instances must run with the same value for many
    # parameters. For example, if you choose to use private rollback segments,
    # these must be specified in different files, but since all gc_*
    # parameters must be the same on all instances, they should be in one file.

  • Starting Oracle XE on linux by /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start

    Hello,
I installed Oracle Database 10g Express Edition on a Linux Ubuntu 7.04 (feisty)
following official installation instructions found here
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/xe/files/install.102/b25144/toc.htm#BABCEAHD
but I noticed a weird behavior.
    The installation process was ok.
The configuration process (/etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure) was also ok.
I set everything on default except for the “starting on boot” option I choose NO, because the instructions let me understand that I can start the service manually by the command:
    $ /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start
The configuration process at the end also started the service well, so I could test my new oracle installation on my web browser following the url http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
    Everything went fine... but...
On the next boot I wanted to start my oracle so I typed
    sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start
but nothing happened and the server didn't go up.
    Looking into to script /etc/init.d/oracle-xe
    we can find this switch
    case "$1" in
    start)
         if test -f "$CONFIGURATION"
         then
              if test "$ORACLE_DBENABLED" != "true"
              then
                   exit 0
              fi
         else
echo "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition is not configured. You must run
'/etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure' as the root user to configure the database."
              exit 0
         fi
         start
this means that if you chose NO (N) for the “starting on boot” option on the configuration process (NB this choice put false in the env variable ORACLE_DBENABLED) you can't start the dbms by this script.
I try comment the few lines
         then
              #if test "$ORACLE_DBENABLED" != "true"
              #then
              #     exit 0
              #fi
         else
and this time the server starts well.
So I deduced that something was wrong with the script and the official installation instructions.

    Yes... Thank you.
But I saw the problem could to be simple avoided using the options
    enable/disable for the script /etc/init.d/oracle-xe,
If you choose not to start oracle at boot time, you can start it
    manually by the sequence
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe enable
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start
then when you want to stop it
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe stop
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe disable
by this last command we don't make oracle restart
    at the next system boot.
I think it would be a good thing to update the reference
    documentation at
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/xe/files/install.102/b25144/toc.htm#BABCEAHD
    to explain this situation better.

First thing I would do is get your keyboard fixed.  There seem to be several keys that don't work.
One of the keys to success in any area of IT is .... attention to details.
Beyond that, it is very difficult to answer your question without knowing anything of your background, training, and experience.  What made you decide you want to "be a good oracle developer"?

  • SCORM content on Oracle Learning Management

    Hi,
Currently we are trying to setup a basic SCORM tracked course on Oracle Learning Management. We are using the example single course from
    http://www.adlnet.gov/Technologies/scorm/SCORMSDocuments/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder=%2fTechnologies%2fscorm%2fSCORMSDocuments%2fPrevious%20Versions%2fSCORM%201.2&FolderCTID=0x0120007F801FCD5325044C89D91240519482D7&View={4D6DFFDE-3CFC-4DD9-A21A-4B687728824A}
The course has imported correctly into the LMS but we are having trouble with the course actually working.
If the SCORM adapter in the LMS is not set, then the course will run but with javascript alert messages "Unable to find API adapter".
If the SCORM adapter is set, then the course will not load but will come up with a 400 Bad Request error.
So I think the content is essentially fine because the course will load, but why would setting the SCORM Adapter return a 400 Bad Request error?
Accessing the SCORM Adapter directly returns the appropriate "No content to display" message so that is fine.
    Any hints or ideas?

I have continued testing, and have found that the following is being passed
    http://company.com.au:9999/content/scorm_adapter_files/oracle_scorm_adapter.html
         ?LMS_URL=http%3A%2F%2Fcompany.com.au%3A7786%2FOA_HTML%2FOA.jsp

         &lms_log_debug=on
         &lms_debug=on
Note that the : in the starting url has been changed to a %u003a instead of %3A. This is obvioulsy a encoding error. Why would this happen and could this be causing the bad request error?

  • Oracle Learning Management - tracking

    Good Morning All,
I have content, I have an LMS (Oracle Learning Management),
I've published with the SCORM options in Cap 3. I have changed the
.xsd files to the Oracle specific files. I can launch the course
through OLM. I can see data in the Suspend_data field.
I expose my ignorance here - is it possible to report on the
data in the suspend_data field given that the majority of it is not
    in clear text?
The issue I face is that another team has generated content
using Dreamweaver and have custom built their reporting to put
plain text in the suspend data field. This plain text has caused me
no end of grief because I am being told that my data 'must' be
wrong because it is in some kind of 'garbage' code.
I am at the limit of my experience and knowledge in
troubleshooting this issue. Any help that can be provided will be
    greatly appreciated.
    Thank You in advance,
    Norm

    Norm,
    I *think* I understand now...
You have added questions (also known as interactions) into
    Captivate
content. As the learner navigates through the content
    (through an LMS) the
overall course data is being sent to the LMS (such as status
    and score) but
the interaction-level data is not. You (and your DBA) have
    noticed the
interaction data is being stored in the "suspend_data" field
    AND that when
you resume the Captivate file remembers how the learner
    answered the
    questions already viewed...
    Is this accurate?
The key is the "interaction" data. If you want to receive
    interaction data
in the LMS, you need to enable it in two distinct locations:
    - Quiz Manager
    - Each individual question
In the Quiz Manager, make sure the reporting level is set to:
    "Interactions
and score". This will send interaction data to the LMS
    (either
putInteractions for the AICC standard or cmi.interactions for
    SCORM) for
each question that has "include in quiz" checked.
The reason it's stored in the "suspend_data" is because the
    LMS standards
don't have a "getInteractions" or related call for SCORM. If
    content such
as Captivate wants to remember how learners answered
    individual questions in
previous sessions - it *needs* to store it in the
    suspend_data field.
    Regards,
    Andrew

I was trying to start the 11gr2 database and getting the following error. Please can any one give some advise ? I manually deleted all archive logs using OS command but still i get the
same error when i try to start the database.
ORA-19815: WARNING: db_recovery_file_dest_size of 4039114752 bytes is 100.00% used, a nd has 0 remaining bytes available.
You have following choices to free up space from recovery area:
    1. Consider changing RMAN RETENTION POLICY. If you are using Data Guard,
then consider changing RMAN ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY.
    2. Back up files to tertiary device such as tape using RMAN
    BACKUP RECOVERY AREA command.
    3. Add disk space and increase db_recovery_file_dest_size parameter to
    reflect the new space.
    4. Delete unnecessary files using RMAN DELETE command. If an operating
system command was used to delete files, then use RMAN CROSSCHECK and
    DELETE EXPIRED commands.

Oh well. So you " *think* database need to be started before you do any thing with RMAN"
    Did you try?
We don't need the database to be open for this, just have the control file mounted:
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORACLE instance shut down.

  • How to automate the Oracle database start and shutdown process

How we can automate and oracle database start and stop procees with Linux start/shutdown process.
I want to automatically start the oracle database at the time linux server and shutdown the database on shutdown linux server.

    Hi,
    I can share my scripts:
    1) /home/oracle/start_oracle.sh
#Script should be ran as Oracle user
    cd /tmp
    export ORACLE_SID=orcl
    export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/ora9i
    lsnrctl start
    sqlplus -S /nolog <<ENDSQL
    connect / as sysdba
    startup
    exit
    ENDSQL
    emctl start dbconsole
    isqlplusctl start
NOTE: emctl and isqlplus are optional
    2) /home/oracle/stop_oracle.sh
#Script should be ran as Oracle user
    cd /tmp
    export ORACLE_SID=orcl
    export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/ora9i
    isqlplusctl stop
    emctl stop dbconsole
    sqlplus -S /nolog <<ENDSQL
    connect / as sysdba
    shutdown immediate
    exit
    ENDSQL
    lsnrctl stop
NOTE: emctl and isqlplus are optional
    Then what you need:
    1) K91oracle_stop (put it in the desired run level)
    #!/bin/bash
    # description: Stop Oracle before reboots
    su - oracle -c "/home/oracle/stop_oracle.sh" >> /home/oracle/stoporacle.log
    2) S91oracle_start (put it in the desired run level)
    #!/bin/bash
    # description: Start Oracle after reboots
    su - oracle -c "/home/oracle/start_oracle.sh" >> /home/oracle/startoracle.log
    Bye.
