A good stand for MacBook?

I apologize if there's a thread for this already- but just a quick question. I am looking to buy a stand that allows me to hold my MacBook actually in my lap. I don't really want anything huge that attaches to the bed or anything, but any suggestions?

The 14 inch model works well with the MacBook.

  • Good Stand For Macbook Air

    Hey,
I'm looking for a good stand for the MBA. One not to large.
Anyone currently using any of the following (or suggest others)
    Logitech Alto Connect
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/notebook_products/stands/devices/3074&cl=roeu, en
Concern, the back end it might stick out too much behind the MBA.
    Plus, built in USB Hub.
    Raindesigninc.com MStand

Like the simplistic design, goes well with MAC setup, curious how it looks with cables.
Looking forward to your opinions helping me make a purchase decision.
    Cheers!

I don't like either of these because neither of the stands can really be adjusted. My favourite stand of all time is this (which is better than any stand I have seen sold in the U.S.)

This stand is made by a Japanese company. However, it may not work with the MacBook Air because of the location of the power plug. I could be wrong though. I own the stand but I don't own a MacBook Air so I can't say if it does or doesn't fit.

  • Good stand for Macbook pro 15"

I am looking for a good stand for playing live. Tired of using whatever I can muster up at each show.

what do you mean by a stand? a keyboard stand kind of thing that goes on the floor? or a laptop stand that you can sit on a table?
I use an icurve stand on my desk for my MBP, which is perfectly fine for putting the screen at eye level. I use a wireless keyboard and wireless mighty mouse, so for all intents and purposes, my MBP pretends to be a desktop machine. but, this kind of thing might be dicey for live use cos the MBP just sits on it, in a live concert environment it could maybe fall off, depending on how hardcore the mosh pit gets and how many stage divers you encounter.
what about straps so you can hang it in front of you from your shoulders like an accordion?...
ok maybe not. but I did see another brand of laptop stand thingy other than the icurve in a store once, that was made of metal and seemed quite ok. you could probably get something like this and then get a keyboard stand and put it on top of that. or, you could use a keyboard stand and get a plank of wood or some kind of table top to put on it, so you can put your MBP and mixer and whatever else on it.

  • Good Hardrive For Macbook

does anyone know of a hardrive for the macbook maybe 100GB or 120GB? and sometihng not to expensive? and maybe a good brand for 1GB memory upgrades? thanks for the help in advance!

Any 2.5" SATA hard drive in that size range isn't going to be CHEAP...but make sure that the drive is 5400RPM to be safe, as that's what's listed for the 60 and 80 gig drives. Beyond that...can't really say, presumably all should go well if the new drive "fits the bill" in terms of specs and whatnot, but keep your original around just in case.
If all else fails I have had people say that a local apple retail store actually installed/upgraded the drive in store...so that may be another option if you want to know you're getting something that'll work.
In terms of memory, there are some manufacturer's out there that actually brand their memory as "apple memory". OCZ is one of them, and I have had a lot of people say they've had luck with Crucial SO-DIMM's. Again, as long as they're 667MHz PC2-5300 SO-DIMM modules you're more then free to give 'em a shot...but if you start to have what seem to be memory issues there's not much apple'll do to back you up.

  • A good SSD for MacBook Pro Early 2008

I have a MacBook Pro Early 2008 and im looking at replacing the hd to speed. What is a good SSD for me to get?

I was looking into the same thing.  If you Google "Early MacBook Pro 2008 SSD" you'll find gobs of info-- including several informative threads here and on MacRumors.

  • Stand for MacBook Pro

Is a stand necessary for the MacBook Pro when it is used extensively all day sitting flat on a table?
    Thanks for your information.
    Vernon

I have had a stand from the beginning - nearly 12 months now - and it saves your hands and RSI and keeps laptop cool; however I found when I got a new printer it was too close to laptop and heat from printer made laptop hot us. I resited printer. Stand is in two pieces, clear acrylic so look good and is easy to assemble and undo if you want to take it with you. It's a Griffen elevator notebosok stand. I paid around £35.00 for it.
Can also recommend Logitech cordless keyboard and mouse [as when the laptop is on stand it is not advisable to use its keyboard].
Having this package makes life a lot easier.

  • LapTop stand for MacBook Pro(R)

What can I use if I am using MacBook Pro(R) on an ottoman most of the time? I am concerned it might not be good for keeping it cool. Also have a Tech21 snapcase on it.
Have been looking at the iLap from RainDesign as an idea http://www.raindesigninc.com/ilap.html
    Thank you.

you might damage your back on the long run by not using a "traditional" chair & table:
I found a table even smaller than your ottoman : http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10059165/
if you really want the stand, it's a good model.

  • Good projector for macbook pro?

Hi there, looking for a good projector that will work with my macbook pro, connectivty, or wireless would be great. I'm going to project my desktop onto canvas, i have vector layers to do some trace painting. so really just need hi-def still shots. But if i can get a good one that i can use in the future for video that would be nice as well, or something compatible with apple tv. just a good, small projector. thanks!

It works fine with my Macbook Pro.
Someone may want to know the video playback. It can play video smoothly and clearly.
It is wonderful that it really plugs the USB cable only for projection (no VGA cable, no mini display port cable, no charger), that is convenient for me to do my presentation.

  • Good Deal for Macbook 2007?

A friend of mine is selling me his 2007 white macbook. I'm not too familiar with macbooks, so I wanted to get an idea if its worth $500. Here are the specs:
    13 inch white macbook
    intel core 2 duo
    2.13 ghz
    320 gb hard drive
    1.5 gb ram
running os x 10.6 snow leopard
    price : $500
Is this a good deal? Thank you guys so much for the help

Legally, in order to run the Mac OS on any Apple computer, the owner of the computer must also have the corresponding discs for that machine. All Apple computers come with 2 installation DVDs (except for the recent MacBook Airs, which have the OS on a USB stick) which are machine-specific and cannot be used with another Mac. The 2007 MacBook would have had Tiger or Leopard installed originally and then would have been upgraded to Snow Leopard.
If you have further questions or need more clarification, let me know!

  • Good game for MacBook?

I know its kind of a vague qustion, but is there any game for the MacBook that runs really well, is fairly new and adicting? I know I'm being too broad here, but if anyone could point me in a good direction, that would help me out a bit. Thanks!

I have been playing "Hot Potato" with mine!
    HAHAHAHAHAHA sorry I couldn't resist.
WoW would be a very good game if you didn't mind the monthly subscription.

  • Best stand for MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display

I am buying a MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display tomorrow. I want to have a two display setup, similar to what I have seen in the Apple Store. I believe they used a Griffin Elevator. I want to make sure of two things: that the stand is sturdy enough so that my laptop won't slide off of it and that I can adjust the stand/monitor so that the tops are level (so that moving my mouse from the laptop to monitor and back is smooth - i.e. the cursor doesn't jump up or down.
I like the fact that I can use this setup to go mobile very quickly, but what about my direct Ethernet connection. I wish there were a stand/dock such that I could hook everything up to it and then just undock the entire machine.

How did you solve the problem of closing the Macbook Pro when it was connected to the display and preventing it from going to sleep?
I am thinking about buying one. When I went to the local Apple Store the tech guys told me that it would be necessary to keep the laptop open slightly when connecting it to the display. They said it was something to do with cooling. It didn't sound right to me. I'm sure that Apple didn't solely intend for the Cinema Displays to be used by Mac Pro and Mac Mini users.
There must be a simple way to "dock" or connect a Mac laptop (Macbook Pro or Macbook) to an Apple Cinema display or any other display with DVI input while keeping the laptop closed with an external keyboard and mouse connected and still be able to use the SuperDrive.
I'm very curious about how you handled this.
    All the best for now,
    Ambrose

  • URGENT.  Good place for Macbook repairs?

My Macbook hard drive has failed. When I try starting it up, it doesn't go past a white screen with a "no trespassing" symbol on it. I have tried using the reinstall disks but nothing happens and the disks just get stuck. The data may or may not be recoverable.
The Genius Bar could not handle my case, so they recommended me to Tekserve.
I went to Tekserve and they told me they would try to get the desired data off and place it onto an external hard drive. However, they said that if they got everything off that I wanted, then the charge would be something over $800. Also, they asked me what specific data I wanted off (and I would ideally want everything off). Based on ratings (e.g. google map ratings - search for "tekserve nyc"), I figured that this might not be the best place to go.
So, +*for those who have needed something repaired on a Macbook, particularly regarding failed hard drives, what places would you recommend*+ (preferably describe just how successful the operation was, and around how much it cost)?
Thank you very much for your help.

For a wrap-up to this thread, does anyone know how data recovery works exactly?
Any number of different things. The simplest is to use heavy-duty drive recovery software. Worst-case scenario is that some drive hardware is so bad that it has to be taken apart in a clean room and the drive rebuilt.
To narrow this question down, I'm wondering specifically about two things:
    (1) Why can't they just automatically get all of my data off, instead of asking me what specific data I want off?
Part of the problem would be that failed hard drives may only last so long before they completely go and/or the amount of time it takes to do this costs a lot of money/time. You could have crashed hard drive where the data can't be completely recovered. If it's in bad shape, there's a good chance that recovery efforts are destructive to the drive data in the long run. You're really looking at getting the most important stuff off the failed drive before it completely dies.
    (2) How secure is my data (can I trust that they won't be opening files, or even looking at file names that may suggest important private information?)?
You could do some research on it. There's the off chance that you private information is snooped, but if it's that important to you, what choice do you have?

  • Good monitor for macbook

im doing some editing in FCP 5 on my aluminum macbook and i need a good 20 inch monitor(i can't afford the cinema display) i also want something stylish too. i don't want a monitor that's hideous to look at. maybe something like blackish red color. my spending limit is 250$

Take a look at the Samsungs in that price range. You will need one of [these|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjkyNjI0 MQ] to hook it up to the Al MacBook.

  • Some possible good news for MacBook Pro Core Duo owners....

    All,
I believe I am now running 2.4GHz 802.11N on my MacBook Pro Core Duo.
    I have a Belkin F5D8071 ExpressCard installed.
I also have the new Airport Extreme.
Before I got the AE, I tried to run the 802.11N enabler with the Belkin card installed. No go. The enabler said my hardware didn't meet the minimum requirements.
But, I received my AE yesterday and installed the Airport Utility on the MacBookPro while the Belkin card was plugged into the ExpressCard slot.
As I was watching the installation, I noticed that the enabler installed!!!
So I switched the AE to N only 2.4GHz (Belkin support has no mention of support for 5GHz N for the F5D8071). And my MBP joined the network!
So I investigated some more. I opened Network Utility and it said my link speed was now 144Mbps. And the MAC address began with 00 17 3F. That is registered to Belkin. The Belkin card was active! But I saw no power light on the Belkin card. So I went into IORegistryExplorer and found the entry for the ExpressCard, it said the IOVendor was Apple. So what I THINK is happening is the Apple Driver is now recognizing the Belkin card and the driver just doesn't know how to drive the lights on the card. But it does recognize the chipset on the Belkin card. Which Belkin says the chip is made by Airgo.
I ran a quick speed test by copying a 1GB file from a wired PowerBook to the MBP. It only took 12 minutes to copy!!! Sweet!!! I have "N" speeds on a Core Duo MacBook Pro.
Now one limitation is the Belkin card does not support 5GHz. But there is hope for CD MPB owners. Hope this helps others.

I have a February (very early) MacBook Pro Duo. I bought the Belkin F5D8071 card, plugged it in and installed the Airport Extreme software including the system 802.11N enabler. I set the AE to the 802.11N only mode and it does not work! Any suggestions? I would think that Belkin will eventually come out with their own soft ware patch for OSX. Thanks.
