  • My MacBook trackpad stopped working randomly today but I didn't do anything to damage it. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 last night, but it worked fine last night. What is happening?

    Hi,
So I have a late 2006 1.83 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook A1185. And last night I upgraded my software to Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. And then this morning when I went to start doing work on it, my trackpad wouldn't allow me to click on anything. It would only scroll my little mouse icon around, so pretty much making my trackpad useless:/ So then I kind of had a panic attack and rebooted at least 10 times (no joke), and then remembered I had a external mouse I could use to plug in. So I plugged that in, and it worked fine as long as I didn't touch the trackpad at all. And then I got annoyed of that because it started to hurt my wrist, so I took out my battery(6 month old 3rd party battery), and then my trackpad started to work? I was slightly aggravated, and confused. So then I put the battery back in, and it stopped working again. So I am puzzled if it is just I need a better battery? Or to replace my trackpad and keyboard? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, so thank you in advance:)
    Thanks

Ok, that's what I have done... I have Snow Leopard Installed, 10.8.6 and it's got Boot Camp 3.0.4... my questionis the Mac Windows Install Drivers you add after installing Windows. Windows looks terribly awkward and I'm guessing it has something to do with the ATI graphics card sofware the mac disk installed. Is is ok to use the one I created years ago? I can't seem to find a place to create a new one using the 10.8.6 and 3.0.4.
When I orignially installed Boot Camp you had to create a disk using Boot Camp that you installed in Windows after the initial OS installation.

  • The keyboard and trackpad to my 2008 MacBook suddenly stopped working, what's wrong with it/ what should I do to fix it?

The keyboard and trackpad to my 2008 MacBook suddenly stopped working. I've restarted the computer several times and no help. I had some keyboard maintenance done a few months ago at a repair shop so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. What should I do?

First thing I would try would be to remove the battery from your MacBook, connect the computer to it's power adapter and start up, then see if the keyboard and trackpad work normally. Some older batteries have been known to expand and interfere with keyboard and trackpad. If this works, replace the battery.
    Best of luck.

  • HT203171 Magic Trackpad fail. It keeps clicking, sticking, selecting everything to the point of unusability. I'm lucky I have my old "mighty" mouse as a back up. SO annoyed right now. What gives anyways? Why did the trackpad just stop working all of a sud

    It's bugging me so bad.
I loved everything about it too, the swiping, gestures and everything are so intuitive. Now, no more thatn 20 minutes ago it just goes crazy. Rebooted the computer. Changed the batteries. Disconnected and reconnected everything. ARGGGGGG.
So lucky I kept an old wireless Might Mouse around, but it feels like being stuck in the past.
    Now I'm really upset.
OK, so that was mostly a rant, but man, I'm really ticked. My productivity has gone down in half! I was very acustomed to the trackpad by now - 1 year after purchasing my iMac... and conveniently AFTER the warranty. Those things are like $70!!!
So far there doesn't seem to be a solution. I know it's not a battery or anything - the trackpad is separate from the computer. Tried cleaning the trackpad several times, and no effect.
    Please help -
    Thanks,

Forget everything I wrote about bluetooth device interference having anything to do with this issue. I was obviously headed down a rabbit trail with this suggestion.
What I've since determined (that is working for me) is to focus in on the small round bumpers on the backside of the trackpad. I suspect that over time these probably loosen and become more sensitive or even stuck. This might explain the auto-selecting in the erratic behavior of the trackpad.
As a workaround, I used a felt cloth (folded several times) to elevate the backside of the trackpad so that the bumpers no longer touch my desk. This takes a loose or stuck bumper switch out of the picture. Then I enabled the trackpad features for "Tap to click" and "Secondary click," which are located at:  System Preference > Trackpad > Point & Click.
Only if you have serious computer repair skills would I advise attempting to adjust the sensitivy of the bumper switch: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairing+Magic+Trackpad+Click+Feature/6171/1
As for myself, I'll be purchasing a new trackpad tomorrow morning. I love this device, but it seems that once the bumpers begin to wear out, they do so quite abruptly, and your best course is to get a replacement before pulling out any hair you still have left.
Again, my apologies about the mis-cue on the bluetooth issue. Good luck!

  • Trackpad on 2011 i7 MBA has stopped working twice and won't work again until I do a hard reset.  Battery is not hot.  MBA is 2 weeks old. What's up, Apple?

Twice, shortly after turning on my MBA from a restful night's sleep, my keyboard and trackpad have stopped working.  Works fine after a hard reset, but considering this baby is brand new, it shouldn't be happening.
I am in law school and don't have time to leave my MBA with applecare.
    HELP!

hello, i have the same problem with my mbp. and you should first shut off your MB. then when is complete off plug in your charger and hold shift+option+command+power and within 10 second you will see the front led flash 10 times more or less and your MB will restart and it should work normal

  • Need help with magic trackpad.  some touch functions stopped working.  battery full and all touch options checked appropriately.  whats the deal?

i have tried everything but the tap functions stopped working.  any ideas?

Update: I mucked about more after making this post; I installed gnome-alsa-mixer and checked the "internal mic" option and "Auto-Mute mode" (both were off), after this my headphone output works again, and does the built-in microphone (!)
I have no idea how I ended up in this "broken" situation, or even what this option does, or how to use it without gnome-alsa-mixer (I had to install 15 packages to get this, as I normally don't use gnome)... Sound on Linux still seems no better than when I started using it 15 years ago :-( (I spent about 5 hours on this...)

  • What to do if  your MBP trackpad suddenly stops working

I woke up this morning and it was looking like a bad day, as my MBP built in trackpad stopped working. After resetting and trying several things, nothing worked. Then I remembered hitting this about a year ago and that the solution was to reset my PRAM (OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM). Following the instructions, I reset it and sure enough, my trackpad came back.
Unfortunately it is not at all obvious that this solution work. It appears to happen after system updates. This happened with Mavericks once and now has happened with Yosemite
Hey Apple, how about having some good docs that point to this as a solution?

  • For some reason when I play my Imovie the second half of the movie's sound just stops working and I can't hear anything.  It was working before but now it isn't and I don't know what to do.

When I was putting together an Imovie I put music in the background and it played fine in the beginning but now when I watch it the first half of the movie plays music while the second half is silent even though I put music there as i did with the first half.  So basically...the music in the second half of my movie is not playing like it used to.

GUYS THIS IS URGENTLY URGENT PLEASE!! if it helps, maybe being the stupid person I am, I might have accidently muted it so maybe if you guys could just tell me how to unmute, or see what is muted that would be REALLY helpful.  Thanks
By the way I know you just read this and you're probably wondering why I am replying to myself....BUT THAT IS JUST HOW IMPORTANT THIS QUESTION IS.  PLEASE HELP ME.

  • I have had my Iphone 4s for a year and a half now and the speakers just stopped working two days ago. I can still use my headphones and still talk on it. What do I do?

I need help with Iphone 4s speakers

"Speakers", I assume you mean the receiver and the (one) speaker at the bottom.
iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers

  • X1 Carbon touchpad and trackpad stops working.

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working.
I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work.
If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.
Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?

    Same issue here.
Bought my X1 carbon 20A7 last month.
The touchpad and trackpoint stop working after a while. Sometimes after minutes of use, sometimes after half an hour. When I close the lid, to let it go to sleep, and wake it up again they both work again. Another interesting (might be a coincedance) issue is that when I wake the laptop up after this has ocurred, the fingerprint reader does not work to log back on.
I have done a fresh install of windows 8.1 and updated all windows and Lenovo drivers.
I hope this gets solved quickly. It's kind of ridiculous for such a premium laptop.
    Lenovo?

  • The bottom half of my trackpad stopped responding to touches.

The bottom half of my trackpad stopped responding to touch.  The button still works fine, a USB mouse works fine, and the top half of the trackpad works fine.  Any ideas of what the problem could be?

I have the same problem.  My clicking works but I cannot drag.

  • HELP! In middle of upgrade to windows 8 and keyboard/trackpad stopped working!

Hey all, new mac user here. Just bought a new macbook air 13" 2014 model. I succedded in installing windows 7 via bootcamp via a usb drive and was in the middle of installing a downloadable windows 8 upgrade (at a preferences page when they ask you to select your favorite color) when my macbook's keyboard/trackpad stopped functioning. I plugged in a usb mouse and that would not work either. I have absolutely no clue as to what to do next. If I had to install some driver or thing please tell me how to cancel the windows 8 install and return to windows 7. Thanks for all your help strangers

I was not able to find any drivers specifically for the web cam. I did find software to use the camera, but that was all I could find.
However, I do have a question about the Windows 8 upgrade process that was used.
Did you do an in-place upgrade or a clean install of Windows 8?
Go back to device manager. Is there anything here at all in an other category indicating it is having some type of an issue?
There are certain events that will need to happen.
Go to the start screen and search for uninstall a program. Select this option in the settings category.
This should take you to the Desktop app and show the familiar uninstall a program feature from Windows 7.
Select add/remove Windows Components on the left.
Is Framework 3.5 checked here? If not, enable this and install it.
Then, install the HP framework which is needed for some HP programs. This is a Windows 7 installation, but it should go through.
    http://goo.gl/jDI7X
Once that is finished, reboot the system.
    Let me know what happens.

  • Keyboard, trackpad stops working after unfolding

I got a brand new Macbook Air the other week.
I noticed that sometimes, after folding the computer (with the OS running), then unfolding it - the keyboard and trackpad are not responding at the login screen. Actually if I press the keyboard it lights up properly but there is no access to the system. The only thing that works is the power button, so every time I have to power down the computer, then back on again.
Is this a know problem or should is my computer broken?

So I did a SMC reset a while ago when the problem occurred again. The computer rebooted...
I'm not sure if this changed anything, because I didn't have any problem again until a minute ago when the same thing occurred again. Of course, I haven't done a Pram reset but I just get the feeling that... something is broken. :-P
    What I'm wondering is:
    - does this occur to a lot of people (only me?)
    - if the above is true, do you all put up with it, or do you try to get a new computer/have it fixed with support?
I did have a problem with my iMac that I bought 1 1/2 year ago. Suddenly the disc drive just plain stopped working (1-3 months after purchase), no suggestions worked at all and there is a thread around here with tons of people with the same problem (believe me, the disc drive in iMacs at least are of very low quality). They suggested to have the computer replaced (as did the woman at the Apple Store) - sure that would be possible if I could put up with not having access to my workstation for a couple of weeks while it's on repair/replace trip. But unfortunately I can't just sit around doing nothing for 2-3 weeks, I need that computer for my job.
I was deeply dissatisfied with Apple's non-handling of the issue, and so were everyone else with the same problem. Eventually the 1 year warranty ended and so here I am with my iMac, disc drive broken.
Sooo, here I am again, with my second Apple computer in life, and am just worried what will happen next. Is this something else that I'll just have to put up with, or will Apple fix it for me, or will I have to pay additional money to have this thing fixed?

  • Maxbook air keyboard, trackpad and usb stop working

Hi everyone! i have a macbook air (early 2008) and it stop working the keyboard, the trackpad, and the usb port i think the bluetooth too becouse when i checked the hardware it doesn't appear i think is something wrong with the software becouse the ilumination of the keyboard still works but i can't use the restore disks becouse i don't have keyboard so i can't choose the start disk, any ideas what can it be? someone experience the same problem? • Filcking right a little bit on trackpad makes webpages stop working.

Sorry if my English is broken...
I'm using Safari 7.0.3 on Mac OS X 10.9.2 installed MacBook Pro.
The trouble is just as menthoned in the title.
If you have Majic Trackpad or built-in trackpad, try these steps... These steps make the problem happen.
    Open Safari.
    Visit some webpage.
    Then visit another webpage.
Finally, using trackpad, flick rightwards a little(as you do when you go back to the previous page, but do it just a little bit & release your finger quickly).
And when those steps 'work', following horrible glitches will happen:
The webpage you're visiting is shifted slightly to the right and the webpage you were visiting before can be seen a little. (This is the sign of 'success!')
The webpage stops working. You will never be able to write into a textbox on that page and so on.
You can't visit websites in that tab anymore. You can see webpages being loaded, but nothing happen in your tab.
Trackpad scrolling in other tabs is blocked until you close the tab in question.
I'm surprised because I've never had such a problem before...
So, the question is: What is this caused by? And how can I prevent it? (Well, trying not to flick a little IS one solution, but not this time XD)

There are reports that this problem can be solved by simply restarting, or by resetting the PRAM.
