A keychain cannot be found to store

I recently get the error "A keychain cannot be found to store" and can't seem to fix it. What's up?

  • Wireless Profile (System Payload) - A keychain cannot be found to store....

    Hey Guys,
Got a rather complex one here which I'm reasonably sure is specifically just a 10.10 Yosemite bug in itself but here's some background, hopefully someone else can replicate it and offer an explanation.
I work at a school and we have WPA2 enterprise wireless utilising certificates and TLS authentication, where as part of TLS we provide a username which matches the certificate name.
We create our wireless profiles for devices through Casper or iPhone Configuration Utility (both output the same file and both work). We are finding that in Yosemite, only user level wireless profile payloads are deploying error free.
Casper allows you to create a system payload wireless profile (mobileconfig), and I also know the lines to modify within an exported iPhone Configuration Utility profile to make it a system one.
If we attempt to deploy a system level payload of a wireless profile, we are meeting the error:
"A keychain cannot be found to store TLSUSERNAMEHERE"
You can then choose to select 'Cancel' or 'Reset to Defaults'
I notice that at this point, the wireless is already in fact connected and am clicking 'Cancel' and just moving on.
If you choose to click 'Reset to Defaults' you get the message:
"Are you sure you want to reset your keychain? This will delete all your saved passwords, keys, and certificates. You cannot undo this operation"
You can then choose to select 'Cancel' or 'Reset'
When you choose 'Reset' a window appears stating:
"Please enter your login password. This password will be used to create your new keychain."
You then attempt to enter your password in the text box, however nothing you type appears in the text box at all. You can tick show password which should show what you're typing but still nothing appears in the text box, all you see is a flashing cursor, no password dots, characters or anything. You click OK and it just closes the window.
However the above exact same mobileconfig file works fine on every OSX we have except for 10.10 Yosemite.
We have also tried deploying this same profile on multiple devices running 10.10 Yosemite and they all have the exact same error.
The fact that the profile starts working before you respond to the error indicates to me that this is a false error or a bug within 10.10 Yosemite itself, especially given when you try to do the reset it's indicating you should do, you cant even enter any text and pressing ok just closes it off completely.
Unfortunately I can't find anyone else that's had this problem - can anyone shed some light on this?

Having the exact same issue here. Trying to enable 802.1x wifi on MacBook Airs so that they can authenticate to AD at login and mount user home directories properly. Loading the profile developed to allow connection to wireless before the actual login to the computer gives exactly the same symptoms. I believe, but am not sure that it is because the TLSUSERNAME and password are stored in the profile, and it doesn't know how/where to store the login. The not being able to type in the "Reset" is also identical.
Any updates or ideas? 100% reproducible on 20 different MacBook Airs for 20 different users.

  • When creating a custom default user profile for an image, I get the error "A keychain cannot be found to store "safari" when a new user logs in for the first time.

My "profile" account works flawlessly with the exception of safari. I had copied the entire user template folder to the default location in OS X 10.10 and removed the entire keychain folder. However, whenever someone logs into the computer for the first time and opens Safari, they are greeted with the error message "A keychain cannot be found to store safari".

If you've just changed your login password in Recovery mode, follow these instructions. Otherwise, see below.
At some point, you may have reset your keychain to default in Keychain Access. That action would have caused your login keychain to be renamed.
Back up all data before proceeding.
In Keychain Access, delete the login keychain from the keychain list. Choose Delete References when prompted, not Delete References & Files.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Keychains
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return. A folder will open. Rename the file "login.keychain" in that folder to something like "login-old.keychain". Rename the file "login_renamed_1.keychain" to "login.keychain". You can then close the folder.
    Back in Keychain Access, select
              File ▹ Add Keychain...
from the menu bar. Add back the file now named "login.keychain". If any of your needed keychain items are missing from it, also add back the file you named "login-old.keychain". I suggest you transfer any needed items from that keychain to the login keychain, then delete it. The transfers are made by drag-and-drop in Keychain Access. You'll need to enter your password for each item transferred.

  • I get message "A keychain cannot be found to store Safari. Now, the key chain app has disappeared. Help?

A window with message: "A keychain cannot be found to store Safari" appears frequently. I would try First Aid, but now the keychain app itself has moved to an undisclosed location. How do I find keychain, and, once found, how do I lose the irritating message?

Do a search for Keychain Access.
    Look in the Trash.
    Look in Applications.
    Put back in Applications/Utilities.
    Check in your User's Library/Keychains
Do you see your login.keychain in this folder?

  • A keychain cannot be found to store "Safari"

    Hi all
I was having problems remembering a password on step-das's Mac Mini running Mac OSX 10.9.5. In any event I was able to reset it by restarting his computer in recovery mode. After doing that though I an having other problems. These include getting the following error "A keychain cannot be found to store Safari." It then gives me the option of "Reset to Defaults" or "Cancel." I just selected cancel.  Others have suggested that I use Keychain First AId to to fix any problems. When verifying I get the following message. "Error: login keycahain not found unable to get info for ~/library/keycahains/login.keycahing, reason: the operation couldn't be completed no such file or directory. Not really sure what to do now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. On a side note I do remember getting message about not being to update the keychain password when reseting his login password. Sorry but I not write down the message I got.
Also his computer keeps making me login every time it is restarted, How do I fix this? i know there is a way to keep him logged every time the computer is restarted or turned on.
And last thing that I think may be related to the keychain problem. Mail keeps asking for password when you click to get new messages. Also acts like it is not connecting to the incoming mail server at our local ISP. I am able to get new mail from this same server.
Thanks for your help or suggestion.

System Preferences/Users & Groups - unlock the padlock, select his account, and click login options. Set up automatic login.
You may need to do a Keychain reset.

  • Keychain Cannot Be Found

I am part way through moving my accounts from MobileMe to iCloud. They are all set up on one of my Macs. On the other Mac I am getting told that "Keychain cannot be found for XXXXXXX"
    What's going on here?

    Modification to my original post.
Message actually reads: "A keychain cannot be found to store XXXXXX"
Alert box suggests Reset To Defaults, which then warns that this action will delete all saved passwords, keys and certificates. Not a good idea.
How do I get out of this hole?

  • Keychain system cannot be found

There are several threads on this, and on my 2009 iMac running Mavericks I ran into many of the same obstacles to the standard remedies. I had a big crash when trying to update to Yosemite a few weeks ago (so I'm back on Mavericks), with lots of permissions problems in the highly-complicated resuscitation phase. I have done a CMD-R reboot, and repaired permissions (on the password-reset utility), checked various folders including my $HOME folder with CMD-I, looked in System Preferences -> Sharing to see that I had everything set properly, and used Disk Utility also to Repair Permissions. (Maybe not in that order.)
And then, days later, for reasons unclear I began to get the "keychain system cannot be found" message. It occurred when waking the computer from sleep, finding the wi-fi disconnected and not being able to store the password. I ran Keychain First Aid. No help. I checked the Info (CMD-I) screens for my Library keychain folder and subfolders, and all looked normal.
(Disk Utility still reports lots and by "lots" I mean thousands of unnecessary ACL permissions, which it says it repairs and then they're still there.)
It's highly inconvenient as I "SSH" in to my base computer over the InterWeb, which is strangely impossible when the base is offline.
I'm not sure about adding or making new keychains - the old one apparently will be preserved although some advisors say make a manual back-up first anyway. And apparently one can import "keys" from the old keychain to make things less onerous. But I couldn't quite deduce how far that rabbit-hold might lead, so still crashed around a bit, and found ...
... that my System keychain was locked. All of the Preferences selections were "unlocked", and the other keychains (login, local, and System Roots) were unlocked.
I asked my wife what she was doing, creeping around in my keychain when I wasn't looking, but I have to say that I believed her when she professed not to know what a keychain was.
So how it got locked I don't know. I did what I often advise but equally often forget: right-clicked the System keychain. There's an option of unlock it (or to lock it if it's already unlocked).
That still didn't work, although the non-self-logging-on WiFi was my only practical problem.
So, I deleted that one key, the one for my WiFi user password.
Somewhere in there of course I rebooted (and rebooted), whether necessary or not.
And that finally worked. It's only been a few hours, but I can log off, I can reboot, the computer can sleep, and I can turn the WiFi on and off manually - and it auto-logs back in.
I wonder if I'm reporting this too early. So far, so good.
Summary: I did all the usual stuff, outlined above, suggested in multiple other threads (e.g. 10.9 Mavericks and keychain issues), except that I didn't make any new keychains, but then:
    in Keychain, right-clicked the System keychain and  unlocked it;
deleted just my Wifi user-password key in the System keychain.
    Hey  presto! YMMV!
    Hope this helps somebody.
    Charles

As Eric Root suggested, I'm replying to myself. Several days have passed and my repairs are holding. Here's a partial and edited "re-post":

I have copied the connection strings from my EF project to my startup project, and everything seems to work fine on the development machine.
However, as sson as this project is run on a user's desktop they get the error:

I've already verified that Oracle.DataAccess is referenced in my EF project, and I'm including oci.dll, orannzsbb11.dll, oraociei11.dll, and OraOps11w.dll in my main library (fat installation).
This configuration worked when using the older ADO.Net DataSets, but now I want to use EF 4.4 (DataBase first/model first/whatever it's not Code First) because it's just easier to code against. So obviously I'm missing something when it comes to deploying my solution. Any ideas?
Note that this is a desktop application using MS OneClick.

    Same issue:
The specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. ---> System.ArgumentException: Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed.
You mention "Sounds like the client system doesn't have an Oracle client installed."
I am using Win Server 2008 R2. I have installed what i think is the right client. How do i tell?
What is the right client? Where do i get it?

What is the issue? I checked in machine.config, it seems ok:

    Hey,
Can you check if the line: DbProviderFactory factory = DbProviderFactories.GetFactory("Oracle.DataAccess.Client"); works in a simple console app?
